This Thai restaurant is the most memorable one I've been to in Chicago! I ordered the duck salad, chive dumplings, and Thai tea -- all of which were incredibly good! The duck in the salad was plentiful, perfectly roasted, crispy, and savory, and the whole salad tasted fresh. The dumplings were essentially fried sticky rice cakes, and they paired so well with the soy sauce and the cabbage on the side. The Thai tea was rich and had the strong tea flavor I love. Overall, the portions were great for the price -- excellent value. I would definitely come back here to try more dishes! read more

Bought kung pao chicken along with other food items. It was not properly cooked and large chunks and a bunch of fat on them and was chewy and hard. I had to throw it away for most part. Previously it was perfectly done ......nicely diced, spiced and cooked vs larger pieces of chicken. I was happy to see this new item and regretted ordering it again. Have not yet been in person but the take out is rave worthy, buckle up. The dish that decides it all for me is pad Thai. This stuff did not disappoint. It was not too sweet, not too savory, as close to the streets of Bangkok as I have found in Chicago. The chicken is fresh and the portion is large. Basil fried rice- has a nice heat to it, the basil flavor is prominent as it should be! There's a nice variety of veggie included and you chose a protein, have had with both chicken and shrimp and both were delicious. Panang curry - also has a nice heat to it. It's is less peanut-y than some I have tried but not bad. Also a lot of veg included and choice of protein. Probably the least impressive for me of my usual order but it's delicious all the same. solid spot for thai food. my boyfriend's new favorite for pad thai! there is paid parking available directly in front of the restaurant. we ordered the pad thai, papaya salad, small tom yum soup, and crab rangoons. we also got two sodas. the pad thai was sweet and the noodles were so bouncy! the papaya salad was refreshing and i really liked the sauce that came with the rangoons. it's slightly thick and reminded me of fish sauce. the tom yum was great as well. the service was a little slow even though we were one of two customers in the restaurant. they also got one of our orders wrong but were quick to fix it. id recommend this place if you're looking for good thai food in the area! i am surprised it is not busier. read more

the best Thai food we've had since we visited Thailand many years ago! The restaurant was casual but nice, and the people who waited on us (the owners, perhaps) were really kind. The service was a bit slow, but we were heading to a concert at NIUE so we were under a time crunch. Things always feel slow when you've gotta be somewhere. I would DEFINITELY go there again, the food is absolutely delicious! I had Pad Se Ew and Tom Kha - oh yum!! Thai spicy, but you can order your spice level. I was so happy! Great place for a Thai pick-me-up! We got the Pad See ewe, yellow thai tofu curry, basil fried rice and crab Rangoon! Everything was yum. OMG. This is some great Thai food right here! They don't play around with the spice, either. I ordered the Green Curry - mild and my mouth was still burning 10 min after eating it.. I can't even imagine what spicy would be like, if that's what happens with mild! Honestly, I love that they actually put a generous amount of spice in their food. Unlike some restaurants where spicy hardly has a bite to it at all! Just take note - Mild is most other restaurant's medium, medium is going to be most other place's hot.. Bankok Thai is definitely one of the better Thai restaurants near my apartment. I called in an order this week and had a few special instructions. I picked up and the order was ready when they arrived. The service both on the phone and when I picked up (I'm pretty sure it was 2 different people I dealt with) were both very nice. So far, I've been here a couple of times, but I'm not sure if I want to dine here again. The first time we went, I went with a group of 6 friends and had very attentive service. There was 1 other table at the place with us for lunch. This last time we went, I went with a group of 5 friend and had HORRIBLE SERVICE. There were 2 other tables of 2 people and maybe 1-2 carry orders. There was no excuse really. It took at least 20 minutes for them to fill our water cups and the cups are smaller than most places. The restaurant is pretty open, so it's not like it is so difficult for them to glance at our tables. It then took like 25 minutes for us to get our check after asking for it! What the heck were they doing? I have no idea. I was pretty frustrated by the end of the meal. Don't get me wrong, they were very nice, but we were definitely neglected. Food: I've had the calamari with was very tasty with the spicy fish sauce. It was yummy, but not spectacular. It is fairly small. The chicken satay is pretty tasty. The chicken was juicy and the peanut sauce complimented the chicken very well. The crab fried rice was okay. It was good, but I've had better. There was not a lot of crab in the fried rice itself, but presentation counts. They shaped it like a cone! The pork pad sie ew was very good. Very sweet and savoury. This is a nice restaurant for dine in and plenty of parking spaces around the area. The foods are delicious, but they added too much vegetables to cut down the meat in all the dishes to save cost. The Thai ice tea is good too but used a little cup. To compare is like half can of soda. You drink less for the price. This is where they shouldn't cut corners to save cost. I think I've found a new Thai restaurant for delivery/take out as I've been disappointed in the old mainstay the last few times I've ordered from them. The food was a bit pricy and I didn't see seaweed Salad on the grub hub menu but the food we ordered (pineapple curry and drunken noodles) was fabulous. Also the side order of rice was a smaller container than normal. Despite these things this place still gets a five star review because the food was SO DELICIOUS. Tried this place for the first time. The flavors were good, but I have 2 issues: 1. The price- 2 entrees for 46.00 is outrageous. 2. The size of the rice that came with my dish...we have never seen a container so small. It's rice, not gold, for the price it is unacceptable. The lady on the phone said, "I don't know - I am not a cook." so I had to push for an answer and asked her to ask someone for the answer. The area has been absent a decent Asian option since Kam Kong Cafe expired over a year ago. It was a local gem which went kaput! Some people might disagree with my estimation since there are a few decent and a couple crappy alternatives. Restaurants like; a newer Vietnamese offering (which I'm not familiar with), as well as the famed Hoanh Long, a decent Filipino restaurant, Panda Express (dare I call it Asian) and the disgusting Chinese buffet around the corner. In the space that Bangkok resides used to be a "homestyle" themed diner that had existed for what seemed to be a short while. It had some popularity but didn't seem to drum up the kind of foot traffic a thriving business needs to continue operating. This area of Lincoln ave gets a ton of traffic. But giving people ample reason to stop is what's key. Many businesses cannot afford putting up a large (street-facing) sign like the Wingstop next door. That detail aside, if people were willing to take a look indoors, they'd find a new gem to fawn over. Inside you'll find a quaint interior. Adequately decorated and shielded from the noisy street outside. Their double door system at the front helps shield the indoors from the cold outside. Helps to forget where you are and enjoy the surroundings. Find Thai inspired decor pieces on glass shelving and dark mahogany looking tables and chairs. If only the inside temperature were warmer (during the current winter season), I might have opted to dine in. I loathe being cold when eating. Maybe the heat is increased when a diner sits in, but I have yet to figure that out. I checked them out for the first time about a week ago. Did not realize a new Thai place had opened up on Lincoln. It's a thoroughfare often used to get around this area of the city quickly. Searching lunch specials in the area (on Yelp), a popup suggested this spot. Reviews, photos and price points met my needs so I decided to give it a go. Got the pepper steak in garlic sauce w/ jasmine rice and it can come with 2 pieces of Crab rangoon or a Thai salad. I opted for the Rangoons. I also ordered a Golden curry puff appetizer. (Based on photos and price, I thought these would be bigger. Not the case.) I requested they make my food moderately spicy and they obliged. The food was fresh, ingredients were tasty and tossed in a garlic sauce that they gave a good kick of spice too. Enough that it left constant indication of sweat beads rolling down my nose. Usually I'd try to save half the portion for a second meal but the food was so good I devoured everything. My only gripe is the amount of rice. A bigger helping would have complimented the meal but like most Thai restaurants, this is typical. In any case, food was superb. The appetizer was minuscule and hardly dented my appetite. My best description of them would be; tiny pockets of curried samosa filling. The filling is slightly sweetened and served with a very light, sweet based dip. Top them in sriracha for a tasty kick. If sharing this appetizer, two would be necessary though hardly cost effective, as there are tastier ways to spend $13 dollars. Some days later.. I was jones'ing for another tasty lunch special. This time I went with the Ginger chicken in ginger sauce with a Thai salad on the side. Requested it light spicy and also got an order of the Bangkok Wings as an appetizer. Looking over their website a photo of the wings was displayed and looking mighty appealing. This instigated an immediate reaction of a purchase. Thoughts? The wings were merely alright. Fried from frozen and well done. Meat stuck to the bone. Maybe the chicken was a witch and to dispel its evils it had to be burned to death. It was covered in Thai herbs which could be seen on each piece and served with a side dipping sauce. The winner was the ginger chicken special. Same great flavors from before, fresh ingredients and a decent kick to keep me enthusiastic about my meal till the last piece of rice was spooned into my mouth. The Thai salad is a tiny portion of light mixed greens with a sweet sorta vinaigrette. So far, so very good. Looking forward to the next time. read more

Tried this restaurant with friend who live really close by. Loved the food here. We ordered the shrimp rolls, duck salad, jumping noodle soup and mango with sticky rice, there were all wonderful dishes. Great flavors. The only thing I didn't care for was the whole fried red snapper with the lemongrass sauce, it was over fried so meat of the fish was not so tender anymore and there wasn't enough sauce for the whole fish. I'm surprised such a good restaurant would not be busy at all on a Friday night. Only 2 tables, including ours, were in the restaurant from 8PM until closing. The people were really nice but boy were things slow. All the dishes took a long time to arrive even though there weren't many diners. Also I think the portions are small given the price but the food is top notch. Would love to come back again and try other dishes and highly recommend. read more
