Side Saddle plays to its strengths and coasts on the rest: inventive, genuinely fun drinks (some land, some don't) and food that's perfectly serviceable but not why you'd come. My friend and I stopped in on a Monday night for a quick drink and bite before a concert. My friend lives nearby, but I had never been. It's a newer spot close to the zoo, right on the Beltline and attached to an apartment complex (you can even order food to the pool). Seating is primarily outdoor with a limited indoor section that's mostly high tops, so better suited to a pair or small group than a big crew. It was a hot day, so we grabbed seats at the bar inside. Service was so, so kind, and I really can't say enough about how warm and attentive our bartender was. The bathroom was also spotless, and there's a play area next to outdoor seating, so this would actually be a solid hangout spot if you're bringing kids along. The drink menu is where this place really shines. My friend ordered the Smoke Show, which uses something called corn milk (totally dairy-free) and turns into a smoky mezcal drink that was easily our favorite of the night. I got the GB Garden, a martini-style pour with a mignonette gin and tomato-water. The punchiness of the mignonette gin came through very strongly and kind of steamrolled the tomato water, but it was still fun, savory, and unique. My friend also vouched for the wine list from previous visits, though we didn't drink any this time. Pricing feels really reasonable for Atlanta: classic cocktails are $10 during the (very generous) happy hour, and neither of our signature cocktails was more than $16. For food we split two of the dips on the bartender's recommendation: the herby goat cheese and the eggplant, both served with crudité, a lavash-style cracker, and thinly sliced focaccia. Dips are around $7 each with a discount if you get a trio. My friend had tried a few other things on other visits and said they were serviceable but not memorable. Fine as a light snacky meal, but nothing I'd cross town for. Parking is free in the attached lot, though there isn't a ton of it. Great neighborhood spot for locals. I wouldn't drive across the city for it, but I'd absolutely come back if I'm in the area. read more

This little establishment sits along side Finca along the SE beltline. You can see it when on the path. It is closer to Boulevard Se than it is to United Ave. Most tables are outside, great for a fall or spring day but might be too hot for the height of summer despite the fans and shade provided by umbrellas or tarps. Overall, nice ambience/atmosphere. The day we went, it was busy at about 10-ish but there were still a lot of tables available. We found our table facing the path to people watch. Loved the vibe. The menu isn't big, which was good cos I rather they focus on those and be good at it than be half-half about every item on their menus. I had the Shrimp & Grits and my husband ordered The Fulton which was a lightly toasted focaccia sandwich. The table behind us ordered the same before us plus another sandwich. FYI, food orders come out of the Finca kitchen. Our server was friendly and quick. He soon brought us our coffees and my cappuccino was good, not too hot and strong. My husband's was meh. Had that sour after-taste of air-dried beans. Everything was fine except.... We waited about 20mins and 2 plates of grits were served, one for the table behind us and one was for me. I waited for my husband's sandwich to come, I must have waited for about another 15mins when the table behind us asked their server to check on their outstanding orders as it was taking quite a long time. She too was waiting for her friends' sandwiches to arrive so she could start on her grits. The wait continues. Meanwhile I had by this time, waited for about 30mins now and my grits were getting a little cooler and decided to start. Our server came to check on us and I too asked him about the sandwich and he went in to check. What I saw in the next 5mins were all the sandwiches being brought out of the kitchen all at the same time. The table behind us could finally start on their breakfast and we finally did get our sandwich when my grits were all done. That's ridiculous! Why the kitchen churn out orders by similarities instead of by table baffles me. Isn't table turnaround key to a business? The longer one holds a table, the lesser that table makes money throughout the day. Plus it just pisses off their customers for staggering their food. Should every table just order the same sandwich so that they can all eat together? Please fix this issue. Slow table turnaround means fewer times that same table makes money for the establishment. And if customers have to wait 20-30minutes for their friends' orders before they can start on their cold food, then, they might not want to go there anymore. read more

I was looking for chill vibes and that's what I got! I really like this place which shares a patio(and owner?) with the finca to filter spot. Any place that is woman owned and friendly to all walks of life is my vibe. Family and pet friendly. Indoor seating available, but outside dining was the best. Enjoyed the Shirley temple, wine specials, flight, biscuits and more! Order was a little mixed up but all good. Fruit plate was all melons. Went here last Saturday night during the bachelorette weekend, and this place matched the chill vibe we were looking for. Most of not all of the seating is setup outside with two small buildings used for staff to cook, organize food and take orders - with a little bit of seating located within each. A staff member noticed us walking up and offered to help us find an area to accommodate our group (10 of us). Menus are found through a QR code on the small rectangular blocks on each table. Everyone got something different but we all seemed to enjoy what we got. I just ordered the Kentucky Mule as my drink and Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies as a snack since I planned to eat food we had back at our Airbnb. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see two massive cookies served on a plate to me and they were perfection! Served warm, soft and gooey in the center but not in a way that made to question if it was baked right and the salt topping is something I did appreciate. I gave the second one to others in my group and they also raves about how good it was. To pay, we scanned that QR code again and it was a pretty simple process as our bill as already split up for us per person. Tonight was our first time checking out Side Saddle and it was a wonderful experience. We love the convenient access from the beltline, indoor/outdoor seating options, and inclusive vibe. The vibes here are immaculate. They had live music from a really good band the whole time we were here and plenty of heaters and fire going. This was such a laid back fun place to be on a Friday night. Our waiter was really helpful with giving us information to pick which glass of wine fit our palate the best and the service was very attentive. We tried the tiramisu for dessert and I wouldn't recommend it. It was more like a dry yellow cake that had the essence of espresso. I think their other desserts are probably better and would recommend getting those. They have events almost every day of the week and post their monthly calendar of events at the beginning of each month. Came here for brunch on a Sunday. Ordered Bloody Marys at 11:35. They were great. Super flavorful and spicy. We waited about 25 minutes to order food but was not in a big rush so it didn't really matter at the time but put in food at 12. Food still wasn't there by 12:30 and we ordered a second drink. Then it's 12:50 and the server says somehow the food got delivered to another table but they could start it now. We ordered a breakfast burrito and avocado toast. We said no thank you it's been well over an hour since we've been here over an hour and haven't had the chance to have food. He says ok. The wine list is excellent, they have some good skin contact wines and most of the list is dry which i appreciate. What's a huge bummer is the food and service. The place was not busy, just for context. Our 5 top ordered about 4 appetizers- the brussels were actually shareable, however the okra, salmon dip, and hummus were ramekin sized. Legit 1 ounce portions. Thats chill, i thought, we're all gonna order mains, whatever. Uhhhh, our three friends got their skewers (which they said were fine) but by the time our server came back around to ask if "everything was good" homies were finished with their dinner and my husband and i were still waiting on ours. When i let the server know that, he kindly said "ohhh okay, i can take that off your bill"?! Like honey, we never GOT IT and we got places to be. Thanks? We awkwardly wait a while finishing our drinks and wait for the bill, they drop a cookie off at the table, make no apology or eye contact, and say "its on the house". This is going to be one of my favorite places on the Beltline! They officially opened about a week ago and it's a vibe already. Love that they offer NA cocktails since I'm not much of a drinker. We took seats outside but the inside was super cute. Definitely not a lot of tables so I highly recommend making reservations. Every single one of their staff that we encountered was so nice and lovely. Our water glasses were always refilled and when we were still missing items, our server (forgot her name but it started with a Z) would check in on it. There was definitely a wait on drinks (my husband was halfway done with his margarita and I still didn't get my drink yet), but our food came out quick. I ordered My Little Pony that tasted like skittles, and my husband a margarita with black salt on the rim. For food, we shared the wings and large grazing plate. The presentation is beautiful and definitely plenty of food for two people. If I had one negative thing to say, they need to have outdoor fans. It is very small indoors with only 2 tables, but there is a lot of outdoor seating along the belt line. The wine selection is not large, but what they have is quality and natural wines. It was still busy on a Thursday happy hour - testament to their appeal. Great live music. Super warm / casual but helpful staff - like being at your cooler friend's house who is a great host. Like the selection and good N/A pics. It is very small indoors, finca to filter across the courtyard /patio is bigger but different vibe (more coffee/café). Food was quite good. 25 people have left this company since opening on memorial Day weekend. Licenses and permits were not properly acquired, pay to staff has been wrong almost every single check, tips are pooled and not accurately dispersed to the staff. Many staff will work 5 days a week and leave with a check of maybe $150-200. When following up on pay grievances staff was left on read and never had issues resolved. They were having staff run multiple roles and promised to pay them certain rates they never saw. If you patronize this business you're stealing from the staff that waits on you and cooks your food and directly putting money in the pocket of an owner that has had time to go on multiple vacations while opening two new businesses at the same time. read more

Nothing on the menu was available at the time we arrived. We made do with a charcuterie board that was ok, not anything amazing. Also the wine selection is not broad at all. No sweet reds or even moscatos to choose from. Our server turned out to be the owner and she wasn't great at all. Very passive aggressive. I went here with my partner for good food and good music. The jazz was decent but the food and the environment was a fucking let down. first of the vibe is not it. Side saddle is way too small to sit comfortably and the bugs in there are a nightmare. When it started to rain they pushed us all in either finca or side saddle with that good luck energy... my food took way too long to get to us and it was cold and mid. The food is so overpriced and the fries were inconsistent to what i saw on social media. The staff were running around trying their best but it was a mess.
