Just had SWG complete the third and final phase of our home's exterior renovation. This time, we had the front of the house re-sided with Hardie and re-windowed with Marvin. So glad to be finally rid of the old single-pane and storm windows. The old cedar siding was faded but still serviceable, but it made more sense to replace it now rather than spend the money to paint it and replace it later. Team lead Marcin and his crew went above and beyond on this project to get everything just right. No surprise here, as they also did a terrific job on the previous phase of our renovation. Thanks SWG for the great work!

Lead paint chip left behind after the installation

The initial contact with SWG was good. This project was primarily to replace original windows in a 120 year old building. The windows were painted with lead paint so they had to go unfortunately. They sent someone out that took measurements of the windows, asked questions about the project, and sent over a proposal. The final document was signed end of May 2021. We were told the windows were ordered and would arrive by June-July. We hear back in July that they have our windows and will place us on their waiting list for installation, which was estimated to take ~10 weeks. I kept reaching out once a month to our project manager to know if there was a more accurate estimate. The project manager never reached out to me to keep me updated. Every time, they would say there were 2-3 projects ahead of us. This went on for about 4 months. In mid November, we hear that we are next and if we're available for installation in a week. We say yes and set a date. Day before that they cancel due to weather and set a date for Monday before Thanksgiving. They cancel again due to weather. They continue to set dates and cancel due to weather, wet pavement (but that isn't a problem the next day even though the pavement is still wet from previous day's snow), communication issues between the installers and the project manager, etc. Each time it was scheduled, I'd have to accommodate it my calendar, wake up early, and move furniture around in case they came. Once they cancelled, I'd then move furniture back and reschedule. Rinse and repeat. Finally once they started with the install, I confirmed again with the project manager that the windows are lead and need to be treated as such. The PM and the installers assured me that all precautions would be taken. No lead precautions were taken. One of the windows was removed and transported through my condo and left wood chips with paint as it went. After the installation, I found debris. I had to encourage my pregnant wife to stay with a friend during the day because we didn't deem the environment safe for her. This is completely unacceptable for a hazardous material. The primary motive for replacing the windows in the first place was to remove lead. I've attached pictures of the lead paint left after the installation.

We are absolutely thrilled to have worked with the Siding and Windows group to install Fiber Cement siding, new windows and trim on our 100+ year single family home. I found it difficult to find any local recommendations, so looked on yelp and was impressed with their reviews. Beforehand our house had tired old peeling and warped cedar wood which was on its last legs and is now a sleek contemporary looking home. Rather than the worst looking house in the street, it is now the best! It has added real value to our home. Hubert was fantastic dealing with us and discussing our options, worked with us on budget and the option to apply for 0% financing that they arranged was also just what we needed to secure the deal. They were very honest with the timeline on how long it would take to start (about 6 weeks) as the weather had put back other projects. Hubert always responded to my emails quickly with questions and last minute changes. It took 3 weeks total from start to finish, including installing 3 new windows and the 2 guys who worked on our house were very respectful of ours and our neighbors property, tidied up every evening, and a delight to work with. They worked very hard in hot weather over the summer, but never complained. They even kept for us a Chicago Sunday Tribune from 1924 which they found under the siding. It was great to work with such a professional company and I would highly recommend them.

Can new siding be installed over existing cedar siding? Thanks!

Hi, thanks for asking this question. Yes, it can, but it depends on some important variables involved. Such as the condition of the wood, the age of existing siding - those are a couple examples. If you'd like to get some more information, please…

Re-installed windows and sliding glass door incorrectly installed by previous contractor. Rebuilt pressure treated wood deck with improved layout. Derrick's attention to detail and pride in his work translated to a solution that addressed all of my goals and helped me understand mistakes made by previous contractors. He spent hours reviewing options and brainstorming with me as more damage was uncovered and the scope had to expand as we went. If you're looking for a roofer - start with Tom's company Presidential Roofing…read more I found Presidential Roofing via Yelp and was definitely tops on my list for roofing companies due to the stupendous reviews. After having experienced the service and detail of this company - I'm completely convinced they are trustworthy, offer value and a good experience and should get a call for every roofing project. I've been considering a reroof for seven years as I knew my roof would need replacement along with skylights and gutters eventually, so I've read up about all there is about roofs and skylights and gutters. Tom arrived, and did a detailed assessment on top of the roof, and provided good feedback on my concerns. He noticed several things on his assessment and offered additional options on them including various ventilation ideas. I asked him about my siding as well - he thought my siding did not need replacement so we did not quote that out. He said that his crew would strictly be outside for the project and would not need to enter the home for any reason (even though we were doing an attic fan install, and skylight replacement). About 2 days later, I received a quote via email, and we chatted more about the details - particularly about my sky light replacements and the merits of different types of roof ventilation. Being my first quote, I thought the quote was definitely a good quote (verified later after four more quotes that I received - same shingles, harder sell job from others, and some did not even climb the roof at all). After all my quotes came in, I went with Presidential Roofing - scheduled for two weeks later Roof would take 2 days, Gutters half day. The week of the job - I received a note from Tom on the particular details of the week. Don't keep the car in the driveway or in garage, as they'll deliver and use the driveway for the materials/haul away for three days. Materials were lifted onto roof off a flat-bed truck crane Tuesday afternoon. Tom advised that the skylight replacement would create some interior dust/debris (so I used some painter cloth tarps/plastic covers taped to the ceiling). They left a small dumpster trailer (swept really clean btw) off to the side of the house (wooden planks so no tire treads in grass). Each day they would clean up around the home, and would do a magnet roller to catch any nails that would have fallen around the home. The project was done exactly on time as scheduled. They started at 7-7:30am - 6pm each day for the roof. The crew was great - they were friendly, detailed, and Tom called a few days later to ask about the roof. The final invoice arrived by mail the following week (no surprises - very close to the quote), when I had the payment ready - Tom dropped by to fetch.

My experience working with All Star was great from start to finish and exactly what you would hope for in a contractor. Dave responded quickly to evaluate the project, he was attentive to my concerns and what I needed, and he presented me with a range of quality and price options. Based on my research and competing quotes, the cost for my chosen option was reasonable. I wanted better windows and I knew they would take a while longer to manufacture. Unfortunately, we were up against a deadline with winter coming and weren't able to sneak the job in before the weather turned consistently bad. It was definitely worth waiting for though. On the day of installation, the crew arrived on time, were very professional, and they did a fantastic job. I would definitely hire All Star again for another project based on price, quality, and service. (This next piece will not be of interest to everyone, but if you are a single female homeowner, I think you know what I'm talking about when I say that a genuinely respectful contractor who listens and doesn't just flex, lecture you, and then try to hard sell you something you don't want is a gem. Dave never asked where the man of the house was either, so thank you for that. Amazing that I have to be grateful for being respected but that's where we are. Thank you, Dave.)

Ordering windows took a few weeks and teams on install day moved swiftly and kept the area clean after! I also want to note that we live on the 3rd floor of a condo building and many contractors said they could not install and/or needed additional materials, external infrastructure and costs to do the project, but Jacob made it seamless with bringing windows up the stairs, and doing an internal install, which incurred no extra install costs. This was also great as it did not impact our neighbors and kept the project contained and clean. Jacob really cares about being transparent and has earned our trust, and I would 100% recommend him and his team to anyone looking to install new windows in their home.
