He got up on the roof to do the initial visual inspection, and determined what would be needed. He was very thorough in his explanation and what the estimated cost would be. Once we decided to move forward with JL Contractor Services he sent the agreement, and was able to schedule his crew for a week later - during winter! He was able to look ahead and find a day where the weather allowed for the work to be done. Jack is a pleasure to work with. His company did a complete tear off and replacement of a flat style roof on our 13 unit condo building. They started and finished the job in time frame given (give or take any weather delays). There was some damage to some landscaping and they replaced it and cleaned up all of the work debris. Right before the warranty was to expire there were a few issues that arose and Jack personally came out to evaluate and took care what was under warranty still and pointed out some potential issues with some brick work/tuckpointing that required some maintenance work. We had a leaky roof on our 115 year old house.The roof was probably last replaced 20 years ago, before we owned it. It needed a tear off and complete new roof. I got 4 bids. The other 3 companies walked around the house and paced off the dimensions. Jack was the only one who took out a measure, climbed up on the roof, checked fascia, the chimney, the underlayment. He came in the house and saw where the water was coming in. I felt a lot more confident that he understood what the job needed. One of the other contractors gave me a bid on the spot without doing any calculations, just based on walking around. Jack's crew showed up on time. It was a big crew and most of the work was done the first day. They finished in the morning of the second day and did thorough job cleaning up. I would use company again based on work and quality but will be more stern on scheduling because my time is just as important as anyone else's. Here is my story I first contacted JL contractors 04/22/20, I asked for estimate for a new garage floor after sending pics I received email from Jack could not give me estimate based on pics and would send foreman out to measure. Foreman came out 04/25 and measured. On 04/28 I emailed and asked for another small area to be cemented and asked when job will start, how long will take and if they work on weekends. I received email stating they don't work on weekends and job would start in about two weeks. I received contract on 05/04 signed and returned on Tue 05/05. I asked again for estimate start day and time when job will begin because I needed to request time off from my job I wanted to be there when project started. No reply until Fri 05/08 8:45pm email that read could start Mon 05/11. I was a little upset that I got email late Fri because I did not request time off also my garage needed to be cleaned and a truck that needed to be junked. I called and told him I didn't understand why I didn't get response earlier in the week also I thought you had said it was going to be a two week wait. Jack said he does not schedule cement jobs because of weather. (ok what??). he seemed to be a little frustrated at first but after I explained to him about the broken down truck and about my job he agreed to pencil me in the week of 05/25. Again he didn't agree to an exact date just that the work will begin sometime that week. Ok 05/25 Mon was Memorial day I understand no work. But on 05/26 a sunny Tue. I was told the crew had other job to do and would be at my house on Wed 05/27. (WHAT ??) (WHY ??) after all I scheduled two weeks in advance and job was to start if the weather permitted not to mention I had asked for time off of my job. After calming down I guess there was nothing I could do. 05/27 the crew arrived at 8am as scheduled and worked all day till 4pm (Jake and the crew are very hard working and friendly) 05/28 the crew scheduled to come in at 8am has not arrived and not called or texted. I contacted Jack at 9am no answer, I contacted Jake no answer until 10:10am I get a text from Jake, (truck was broken and needed to pick up materials.) The crew arrived at 11am and worked to 3pm and the cement was ready to be poured. Then I get a call from Jake (foreman) who said my concrete could not be poured 05/29 Fri because they needed to pour cement at another garage (What ??). I finally got it they scheduled two jobs mine and someone else's. I said it was fine what else could I do?. 06/01. Mon concrete was being poured but weather forecast called for rain so I got a call from Jack who said he was pulling the crew and would finish tomorrow. 06/02 the rest of concrete was poured garage was finally done. Of all the companies I called to provide estimates for a new roof and chimney rebuild, a couple never showed up, a couple never followed up with a written estimate. One of the big companies even sent me an unsolicited estimate without ever coming out to my home, not sure what the story is behind that. Of the companies that did show up, only Jack went up on the roof to inspect and evaluate the chimney, roof, and gutters. He also took pictures with his digital camera to show me the current condition. A couple of days later, I received a clearly outlined estimate via email, which I accepted a week later after doing my due diligence by looking up state licenses, BBB complaints, and any online reviews.
