My husband purchased my wedding ring out of state, and when it needed to be sized and soldered, we chose Siebke Hoyt believing we were in good hands. Unfortunately, that trust was not honored. The salesperson who took my ring actually commented on the special engraving my husband had placed inside -- which means she saw it and knew it was there. Despite that, she never warned me it would be removed during the work. Even more upsetting, no one called me during the process to get my approval before removing it. A wedding ring is not just jewelry -- the inscription inside was deeply personal and irreplaceable. What should have been a routine repair has left me heartbroken. I would strongly encourage anyone bringing in a sentimental piece to ask very specific questions upfront, because the communication here failed at every step. read more

We have had several experiences with Siebke Hoyt and all have been positive. I attended a Ladies' Night event there, and not only were they serving up delicious (free!) martinis, but they made the evening very enjoyable. My fiance, unbeknownst to me, bought my engagement ring there the spring before last. He was helped by Dawn Erie, and from his stories, she was amazing. Waiting on him in any store is no small feat--he doesn't make purchases without A LOT of thinking and deliberation. He said Dawn was consistently patient and kind. After he proposed 9 months later (!) I took the ring in to be sized, and she waited on me as well. Not only did she remember him, but she was friendly and helpful. We have been in a couple times to look at wedding bands, and whether Dawn or someone else in the store helps us, everyone is very accomodating. Also, they bring me a glass of wine every time I'm in the store--score! What finally spurred me to write a review was that yesterday my fiance gave me a diamond necklace for Christmas. He said that he had purchased the same necklace from a competitor and SH was able to adjust the price in order to beat the competitor. Plus, at his request Dawn put the necklace box in a bigger box before wrapping so that I wouldn't guess it was jewelry. Those kind of personal touches don't happen often in retail, and we really appreciate SH's attentive service. They aren't pushy when you enter the store, and will allow you to browse without any pressure. read more

I wanted to replace my current wedding band from years ago because it has tiny prongs (from another store) that snag on everything. I did a considerable amount of research this time to make sure I get a band that will last longer than 6 years, and visited every jewelry store in the area. My experience in the store was great - I actually like that there is not much natural light in the store, it makes it easier to see the diamonds clearly. Sunlight makes all diamonds sparkle like crazy, and it is harder to assess quality. The wedding band inventory was smaller than I expected for the size of the store. Jake helped me look at bands and was really helpful, and wasn't the typical pushy salesman (hate those people). I came back 3 times total, and he always remembered me and what I was interested in looking at. It varies by designer, but for the most part you can customize any of the pieces to exactly what you're looking for (more diamonds, less diamonds, different gold weight, etc.) I also like that they do a lot of work in-house (soldering & rhodium dipping). There are a lot of perks included in getting jewelry here - if you get your pieces inspected annually, they cover repairs, you can come in for a cleaning as often as you like, and I believe they re-purchase jewelry that you bought there if you want to upgrade. They offered to unsolder my current wedding set, re-solder the new set together, and re-dip the whole set for no additional charge. Unfortunately in the end it came down to price - I got exactly what I wanted at a smaller local store in Iowa City (Herteen), for $1,000 less than the band I found at Siebke. A big part of the price is attributable to the designer. It is important to get a good designer because the craftsmanship will be better quality and there will be less maintenance in the future. However, I also don't want to overpay just for a certain name to be on the box. Their prices are definitely better than the chains in the mall, but a bit steeper than the smaller, local places and (quality) online carriers. They carry some nicer quality designers. I would go back in the future for other pieces. read more

After writing my last review, I was waiting to update my review based on how the issue with my broken necklace would be resolved. I am beyond thrilled to say that the stellar customer service I received has made me a Siebke Hoyt client for life. Once again, I had the pleasure of working with Joe Hoyt. He remembered me and was immediately willing to switch out my necklace for one that I would be happy with. I tried on a few until I was truly satisfied with a replacement. While they switched out the necklace they also polished my engagement ring and Cartier rose gold love ring. Both looked like they were new! I was blowing away by how gorgeous the Cartier looked because I am pretty hard on my hands and my jewelry takes a beating. Every single scratch was gone and it looked like new again! Also, they did it free of charge!!!! They also have an amazing selection of contemporary pieces at affordable prices. I can't wait to build my collection of wearable but unique pieces and built a wish list while I was there today. Broke the band on a nice diving watch I own. Tried fixing it myself to no avail. Stopped at a Walmart and they had two people try for 15 minutes, without success, to repair it. Next, I stopped at Siebke Hoyt Jewelers and they had it fixed in just a few minutes. An internal sleeve (not visible) in the band was bent. They located the problem, fixed it, and did it at a very fair price. The customer service was excellent. I am not from the Cedar Rapids area, but would highly recommend this business. I have been a loyal customer for years. May not spend a lot of money, but have purchased what I consider to be quite a bit of jewlery. One purchase was mine and my wifes wedding rings aprox 12 years ago. beautiful rings! I have never heard of a diamond cracking but one of mine did. Stopped to get an estimate to repair. Dawn took my ring back to the jewler and 5 minutes later she comes out and tells me it would be 715.00 to replace the cracked diamond and build up the lip that holds the diamonds in place. Seemed really high. I think the ring only cost about 1000.00 new. It has 10 diamonds, of which only 1 was cracked. Took the ring elsewhere to have an estimate and had the diamond replaced and fixed, polished, out the door for under 90.00. Probably wont be back. Siegels just got a new customer due to your jewler trying to gross the crap out of me. I have always had good experiences until now. Do with this as you will. read more
