    Sienna Sky Pet Cremation Services
    Ashleigh J.

It is an honor to have the opportunity to post the first review for Sienna Sky. We lost our dear kidden cat, KiKi, who was 16 years young to kidney disease on Friday January 31st, 2020. In the days before her departure over the Rainbow Bridge, I researched cremation services as I wanted KiKi's ashes to remain with us should we move in the future. I emailed two companies the same question asking about the fees associated with the services and received two vastly different responses. Susan, the owner of Sienna Sky promptly responded with a sincere, thoughtful and information filled email. (The other business, Infinity, responded two days later with a single sentence in all lower case letters). I knew that she would be the person to contact and make arrangements once the time came. Sadly, the time came sooner than I had initially thought and I reached back out to Susan the following day. When I called, the warmth, genuine concern and empathy radiated from Susan's voice. I knew that this was going to be the perfect choice for my little girl's after care. Susan was patient and listened to each question I asked and made sure that I gathered all desired information for the phone call. She let me know that I was free to contact her with any further questions regarding our plan for KiKi. My husband and I opted for a Witnessed cremation which meant that we were along side KiKi every step of the way. We brought her down to the Crematorium in Ghent (from Albany), we met with Susan and Jamie (who assisted with cremations) upon arrival. Neither rushed the process as we filled out some short forms for records and after care wishes. Per optional suggestion from Susan via email and phone call, we wrote a letter to KiKi and included three photos in the envelope. We also brought along her favorite treat and wrapped her in a scarf of mine turned blanket. The Witnessed Cremation gave us a tour of the facility and showed that the crematory was empty. At this point, it should be worth noting that many pet cremations are group cremations and owners may not be receiving the ashes of their own pet afterwards. Sienna Sky, formerly Buddy's Place in Hudson, was founded as the former owner wanted to create an experience that gave pet owners the peace of mind that their pet was being cremated with dignity and not discarded in any unknown way. We discussed urns and memorials prior to the cremation. As a dear friend had offered to make a custom urn, we opted for the standard velvet bag which holds a plastic bag that contains the ashes. The selection of urns is quite incredible and there are options for all budgets and tastes. (There is a large selection of cremation jewelry and I had opted for a discreet sterling silver teardrop pendant told hold some of KiKi's ashes for my own keepsake.) Each service comes with a memorial bookmark personalized for the pet being cremated as well. There are additional services that can be added for a fee such as paw prints (which we did and I was able to take some myself) and clay prints. When we were ready, Susan and Jamie brought my husband and I to the back room where KiKi's body was prepared for cremation. Wrapped in her blanket with treat, letters and photos, the door of the crematory was opened and she was placed in. The door closed and in moments she was set free. A witnessed cremation means that you will go home with the ashes of your pet the same day. Susan has a list of various things for you to do such as coffee or a bite to eat or a place to go for a walk as the process takes place. Susan gave us a return time for when KiKi's ashes were ready. We arrived back at Sienna Sky to the ashes carefully packaged in a black velvet bag that also contained the certificate of cremation, some fur trimmings and oddly enough, three tiny toe bones that did not turn to ash. A tag with "KiKi" and the dates displaying her time here on earth was attached to the bag. Susan even took the time to place some of KiKi's ashes into my new pendant which I promptly put on. She will always be both within and next to my heart. Talking with Susan post-cremation, we learned a bit more about Sienna Sky and Lily Pond Sanctuary. I decided that all of our unused cat items were to be donated to her (including brand new bags and needles for subcutaneous fluid administration and prescription cat food). I drove back down to Ghent on Sunday to deliver these much needed and appreciated supplies. While the loss of our fur babies is a very sad and depressing thought, it is a reality that we will all face. While cremation, let along witness cremation may not be for everyone, I found this entire experience to be absolutely beautiful and fulfilling. I can not recommend Susan and Sienna Sky enough. Thank you, for bringing my little Ki's life full circle and for making such a wonderful memory out of her departure from this world.

Review I chose…read moreForever Meadows because I had used them three years ago during a previous loss and, at that time, they were extremely compassionate and professional. After that positive experience, I trusted their care during such a difficult time, not realizing what high employee turnover they have had since then, leading to a completely different experience. On April 21, 2026, after Bailey, our beloved cat of 18.5 years, passed away, we reached out around 9 PM, as their website states that 24 hour services are available for situations like this. Unfortunately, we were told that the website is incorrect and they could not assist until after 9 AM the following day. We were advised to keep our pet outside or somewhere cool overnight. This was incredibly distressing during an already heartbreaking moment. When the employee arrived the following morning to pick Bailey up, he was quite insensitive and started the conversation by immediately asking if I had already paid. While filling out the contract and explaining the options I would like, he interrupted me multiple times to discuss prices, even after I had advised him that the price was not my concern - making sure my little girl was taken care of was my only concern. While arrangements were made, both on the phone and in person, I clearly communicated multiple times that having Bailey's paw print was extremely important to me and my son as a keepsake. I also showed the man the clay paw imprint that their company had done for her brother three years earlier and stated I wanted the same one for her. I paid in advance for this service and it was clearly marked on the contract I signed. When I was called to pick up Bailey (four days after the man told me she would be ready to come home), I was told that the clay paw print had not been done prior to cremation and it was unclear that I wanted it, despite it being marked on the contract and them already charging me for it. This was devastating. While they did offer to refund the $45, the opportunity to have that final keepsake is something that can never be replaced. There were several other mistakes made during the process as well but this is, by far, the most upsetting as it is irreversible. What made the situation even more upsetting was how it was handled. There was no empathy and it was treated as an inconvenience to them. Both Faith and the man in the office with her during pickup stated multiple times that it is not their fault. I specifically asked what quality control plan is in place to prevent these errors from occurring and was advised there is none and that "mistakes happen and are just part of doing business." This particular "mistake" was compared to a fast food order being prepared incorrectly, which felt dismissive and deeply lacking in empathy given the emotional nature of the service being provided. This was not just a simple oversight. It was the loss of something deeply meaningful during a time of grief over the loss of a very important member of our family. For a service costing several hundred dollars, I expected a much higher level of care, attention to detail, and compassion. I specifically asked to speak with the owner and was told he wasn't there. I asked Faith to call him to which she replied, "I will not be doing that." To make matters worse, I am not at all confident that the ashes I received are even Bailey's as they are less than 1/4 of the weight of her twin brother's ashes, despite them being almost identical in size at the times of their passing. With such carelessness and an admitted lack of any kind of checks and balances in their operations, I do not have any faith that they actually provided the private service I paid for or returned the proper ashes, which is even more distressing. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend Forever Meadows and I very strongly discourage anyone from using their services for a loved one if sentimentality and compassion are at all important to them. My wish is that no other family ever has to experience such carelessness during an already devastating time.

Making the call was incredibly difficult, but the person I spoke with helped ease some of that burden. At no point during that call did I feel rushed or that my feelings were disregarded. When Kevin and Dr. Maura arrived, they showed the same kindness and compassion. They walked us through the entire process and allowed us some final, meaningful time with our fur baby before we began. The level of empathy they both showed is something I will never forget. Thank you for making such a difficult day a little more bearable and for treating our beloved fur baby with the dignity, love, and respect she deserved. Three weeks later, NO communication and we heard NOTHING. Unfortunately, the shelter called us and said they messed up our application and gave the cat away to someone else. Huh?? BUT they said they have a new litter coming in and to check them out. Ok great. We check out the new litter and . Two out of the five were already adopted somehow, despite getting the cats literally an hour ago. They didn't have name tags out and they weren't even set up yet. HOW?! There was one I really liked. Once again, I asked if the cat was available and they said yes. I told them I'll apply. I also called the shelter to make sure and yup the cat is available. Not even 5 minutes later, they called me back and were like "yeah.... Sorry, that cat is already adopted too." I get a call later at night from the friends I put as references telling me the shelter talked to them for application but sounded disorganized. At this point, there is no cat we applied for that was available, as both of them went to other families. Who were they calling for?! It's extremely sketchy. Finally, they called us AGAIN and told us to come in one more time. We gave up at that point, but went just for the hell of it, once again, basically all the cats are adopted already. They instructed us to go to their actual shelter (this was all PetSmart) and we were like NOPE. I refuse to give these irresponsible people money. I hope the animals have great care because this place cannot be trusted. HORRIBLE experience, AVOID and go somewhere else.
