I relocated from the Bay Area to Riverside during my PPL training due to an Air Force PCS to March…read moreARB. I chose this school for convenience and because they advertised Piper Archers, which I had been flying, but upon arrival I was told they had sold them, so I transitioned to their Cessnas. After about 15 to 20 hours, I was becoming comfortable in the new aircraft. During a short field landing, I applied firm braking as part of the maneuver. On a hot day, the left main tire failed. I took responsibility and agreed to cover the cost of the tire replacement. I was then charged $300, while a document at their front desk clearly listed Tire and Labor as $222. When I raised the discrepancy, I was told over the phone the difference would be refunded. About a week later, I received an email stating the refund would not be issued and that the form had been rectified to match the higher price. Because of this incident, I was told I was not a good fit for the school and was advised to train elsewhere. Flight training is already a significant financial commitment, and situations like this make cost transparency even more important. The issue here is not the tire, it is the inconsistent pricing and reversal after acknowledging the discrepancy. Being shown one price and charged another, then having it changed after the fact, is not a good standard for a training environment. I would strongly recommend prospective students get all pricing and policies clearly in writing before committing, or consider training elsewhere.

Our instructor was great, I felt safe as I learned and he wasn't hesitant to any answer. He allowed me most of the flight to control minus part of the landing which I was ok with and it opened my eyes to the amount of multitasking a focus that's needed during flight. Before I left, he walked me through everything I need to kick off if I'd like to continue with schooling. 10/10

I agree with a couple of these comments. This school does not deserve to be called a "141" flight…read moreschool, which usually calls for more structure, and high quality in thorough flight instruction. There is an extreme lack of consistency, organization and professionalism. I am always bumped around the schedule and switched off between different flight instructors who hardly know where to start because they're not sure what I've done, what I need help on, and how to even organize a thorough flight training session. Many CFIs even rush through preflight procedures if the student is taking too long. I've only been there for a little over three months, and have already been with six different instructors. I'm only still here because I made the unwise decision of putting lump sums on the flight training account, assuming that this school would be great(they have a policy that does not allow students to take money out of the account once it has been deposited). They do not follow an organized curriculum, as a 141 should, and prioritize the foreign students because they "pay more" and are set for a "faster career track" despite you paying a great deal of money too (heard from a discussion between CFI's). Edit (reply to owner/comment below): I asked if I could possibly take the money out the account, and was told that California Aviation Services does not allow that. I never said you had an "upfront policy", rather, I said you had/have a "no-refund policy". This is the only "item" you seem to clearly disagree with. Yes, you agree that you prioritize other/full-time (foreign) students, which is what I said. However, if you're 141, which is what I searched, asked about and paid for, then students shouldn't have to compete for time/flight spots. If a paying student makes a flight reservation, they should not be bumped to another time, rescheduled to another day, or put off entirely for a week or two, simply because of another student. I literally sat on this school's wait-list for three months so that I could (from what I was told) be given promised time and a set/consistent schedule for flight training. Also, I've never seen or discussed a syllabus/set plan to follow through with for flight training. Most of the flight instruction I've had does not seem thought out/planned, but rather random "go with the flow". I just recently met and hardly see you, much less see you review any flight/ground instruction during sessions. What's nonchalantly checked off by some CFIs does not equate to following or assure of a set plan/syllabus. I appreciate your refund for the remaining funds on my account.

The staff are extremely friendly with a nice facility located on the Northwest end of the field. To add some perspective, you hear about 17 year old birthday checkrides, and 40 hour check rides, but not both. I came into UAA with absolutely no stick time and left as a flight school record holder with my checkride which was done on my 17th birthday @40 hours. This would not have been possible without my CFI/CFII Vishwa Ravichandran, who made this possible by going out of his way to customize a training regimen for me to make it happen. Extremely selfless yet knowledgeable individual who cares about teaching his students, and making each student better than the last passed checkride. My very first interaction with him was when he allowed me to borrow his headset when mine had an issue on my very second flight. He became my primary CFI immediately following this. My previous CFI, from the KEMT location, was inconsistent with scheduling and it felt as if I was acting as a passenger in the pilots seat as opposed to investing in a hands-on learning experience. Compare this Vishwa's constant attention to the little things, which are the reason why I passed my checkride at my age with such a low flight time. UAA's KPOC location offers a greater environment for students. My father obtained his rotor wing PPL at 68 hours at the KEMT location, and obviously myself at 40 at KPOC. I will let the hours speak for themselves. Great school with great people, highly recommend.

From the receptionist to the licensed pilot who instructed my dad to the employee who drove the cart to allow me to watch take-off, everyone was amazing! Jose (the flight instructor) allowed my dad to take control of the majority of the flight, which we appreciated so much! His hands-off approach helped my dad achieve his lifelong dream of flying a plane :) He was even so humble, he wouldn't accept a tip for his helpfulness even when he deserved it Bryce (who drove me to the take-off area) spotted their plane that I would've otherwise missed, and ensured I had the perfect angle for the video! He also told me about the tracking site which gave me peace-of-mind as I checked their location and progress The receptionist (whose name I didn't catch) was so patient with all of my questions while in the waiting area for an hour. She even went to the back to retrieve different T-shirt color and size options and a plastic bag to carry the clothes in! There were a few other employees who greeted us and made small-talk as well~ One woman informed us to the complimentary coffee and the locations of the restrooms. A different instructor calmed our nerves while we waited for our appointment. Overall, extremely pleasant customer service! Thank you Jose and Bryce for the hospitality and the one-of-a-kind flight experience! And thank you Jose for taking a beautifully-captured video of my dad flying the plane!

I own a flight school at John Wayne Airport but I don't have a twin-engine aircraft and I needed to…read moredo some specialized training for myself. I went to Dubois for two reasons: first, their 1958 Piper Apache is a beautiful twin that I've been wanting to fly for its wonderful handling, old-school look, and favorable single-engine capabilities. Second, I knew of the owner, Lou DuBois, from having been an aviation professor at Orange Coast College and having students who went to DuBois. I had heard of Lou through many of my friends in aviation. He had a good reputation. Potential students have to understand that a flight school is just a building. What REALLY matters is your instructor. The rest is just noise. Select a school based on their instructors. I liked DuBois because it is an "old-school" flight school. The kind that dotted airports across the country and provided most of us with our ratings in decades past. It's run by regular pilots who want to give back and make a living doing it. Conversely, today's modern "flight academies" are a crap-shoot of questionable maintenance and instructors who are only there to gain hours and who hate their jobs. Most of them have CFI certificates with the ink on them still wet. It's the blind leading the blind and perpetuating terrible flying habits. I had heard that DuBois had good CFIs. I got lucky and got a great instructor in John Z.; a guy who, like me, cares deeply about his students. He's not in it for the money or the time or title. He cares about making good pilots. Like I said before, a school is only as good as their CFIs, and I don't know the rest of their team, but John was great. We hit it off personally and he was a great resource and genuinely cared about getting me done. Your mileage, of course, may vary depending on who you get. But never settle when it comes to a CFI. Never. My experience was great. Like all flight schools, there will be delays for maintenance and a thousand other things, but DuBois fulfilled all my expectations and they were nice, and personable, and honest. DuBois has good people. You can't ask for more. I wouldn't hesitate to send folks to DuBois to learn to fly or get other ratings. And their Apache is one of the best deals out there.

They had the best price (around $100) for a flight to Texas where I will witness my niece's graduation! It's been a typical experience without any issues... Except: I remembered that there was an extra $40 fee for something... turns out that it's for a check-in bag... Ohhh... That's why I only have a carry-on! Haha! On board, the service was excellent from Nerida. She was cheerful, helpful, and patient! She found my seat belt buried under my seat cushion! She confidently carried a tray of cups filled with water and didn't spill a drop, even with turbulence! She's awesome! She even has a part-time job after this flight in a pediatric dental office! Kudos to Nerida! Well, my niece scored a job in Seattle, so I probably won't be visiting Texas anymore... and therefore might not need to fly American Airlines in the future... We shall see...

She's flown multiple times back and forth with a cat. Last night they kicked her off the flight as she was boarding because another passenger complained they had an allergy. I understand allergies are not fun but my daughter did nothing wrong. This other person didn't disclose the allergy causing a problem as they were all boarding. Forcing my daughter to not board, making her call support herself to change her own flight, Telling her well you have 7 min to figure it out because we're closing this gate. Not even making these changes for her when they wouldn't let her board. Being rude to her. Every single time she flies she's had issues, not related to the cat. Last time the app changed her flight and the airport had something different. When we showed them her app they tried to blame us. She then missed her flight because the person at the desk spent 2 hours attempting to check her in. We were told this is why you need to show up 3 hours early. We were 2.5 hours early and she still missed her flight due to the incompetence of the person at the desk not being able to check her in. If you can fly with another airline I highly suggest it. Especially from Ontario.
