Stopped by on a busy Saturday, Jordan was very helpful reviewing saddle options and sharing his expertise on the latest in helmet options. Called back on Monday to schedule time with Leon for the fitting, said come on by same day! Leon spent a good hour not only helping with saddle, shoe and bike adjustments but even providing me a spare tool for my bike rack. Customer service at its finest! I would have spent more on a saddle, but Leon recommended my trying a lower priced version first, ride it and come back in a couple of weeks if it doesn't work. Went in today for an introductory meet, not looking to buy but more over, go over the basics and requirements. I'm a first time road biker and wanted to get educated thoroughly before I throw down a large sum. Had a female rep start off to help me. I advised of my budget, level of ride, goals, etc. Leon stated to show me a 56 Specialized. Showed me a $5800 bike, could not put on the pedals. Took the bike to the front, Leon, more knowledgeable, stated it was another bike, used and minor scratches, put the pedals on, took some measurements, pumped air into the tires and told me to take a test. The bike was great, but I would rather have a new bike and something at my level of ride. Returned the bike and was told by Leon that he would sell it to me for $2K. Left the place. Had my eye on a 56 Specialized Matte Black for $800. Not going back. Felt as if I was being taken. Second chances? Lets see if anyone from Sierra Cyclesmith takes a look at my review and calls me back. read more

By far the best (electric) ebike shop I have found - I have been researching and visiting shops all over Reno Tahoe and the Bay Area - most shops don't have ebikes in stock but these guys have them in stock ready to test - the staff let me test the Specialized Levo - after trying all the brands and talking to riders who ride ebikes I found most agree the Specialized are the best - I'm enjoying my Levo FSR they sold me and the staff is very generous with their time in always helping me fine tune my setup - this shop is different than the others in the area as they have a lot of accessories and new stuff always in stock. read more

Great shop, very accomodating. I test rode a bike the other day. They took the time to set up the full suspension bike to my weight, and check the tire pressure. All of this for a 1 minute parking lot ride. Great staff. I just purchased a $2,500 bike from Reno based Peloton Bicycles. Was very pleasantly surprised when they looked at the bike, saw it was pretty clean and promptly did what was required. These guys are great! Brought in an old Mountain bike that I was given and had begun to fix up which unfortunately despite what I'd already repaired, needed brake repairs that I knew little about (old school disc brakes/missing disk). Coulda replaced the disk myself, but was unsure about the rest after many years of "clamp" style brakes (how to adjust or replace pads, etc). Needless to say, they squeezed me into a busy schedule, repaired the inherited damage and I was on my way. Courtesy is always free, but unfortunately becoming increasingly rare. I will not return to this shop. When it was all said and done I paid $250 for a back wheel.. I mean $250?? Seriously? When I purchased the part I was told to pay half then when I pick up my bike I can pay the remainder (which was suppose to be $180 total). When I returned today they told me I owed another $160 more than the $90 I already put down. I asked for no other services yet they charged me for a brake part and a fee for bleeding my back disc. (An additional $65 dollars). What kind of operation is this guys? I like to shop local, but I'll take my business elsewhere. Unless contacted back with answers. read more

Sierra cyclesmith is located at 7007 outh virginia street right next to used computer warehouse. First of, the people that work in here are awesome. Very helpful and knowledgeable on bikes. The store is crammed full of bikes and parts,they surely will have what you need. The only reason i gave them 4 stars was they did not cheeck to see if my clip ins fit the pedals, they didn't. I took my bike's front wheel in to see about replacing the ball bearings because the hub had gotten loose, and it looked to me like the bearings were all loose in there and that the whole thing might be shot. The mechanic took a quick look at it, said he thought the bearings were probably fine and just needed some slight adjustment and re-tightening, and then took care of it right away. Within 10 minutes, he gave the wheel back to me with a smile, and when I asked how much I owed just waved me off. read more

According to Ray at Sierra Cyclesmith I am, and I directly quote him, a "fucking douchebag" because I called about a problem with a bike I bought from them in March. In March, I purchased a Trek Marlin 7 from this store. I went with this store in Reno, two and a half hours away from where I live, because I was also coming to Reno to buy a car so I could pick up the bike and the car at the same time. Though I *paid* for this bike in early March, because it had to be ordered and assembled I didn't take possession of the bike until later in March. At which time I was able to take a short ride around their parking lot and things seemed to be fine. I went home and because of work and other factors I was not able to get on *this MOUNTAIN BIKE* until some time later when I took it on a trip to a mountain bike park. It was then that I discovered that I had no front brake whatsoever and fluid was leaking from what appeared to be the bleed port of the front brake. After doing some research regarding this I discovered it was possible that there was some air in the line and it needed to be bled. I took it to a bike shop in Mammoth (where they have one of the world's premiere mountain bike parks) and where I've received service on the tire on my commuter bike (a tire that kept breaking spokes and was also taken to Sierra Cyclesmith for repair - different story, but they seemed to have discovered the actual problem and fixed that). The California bike shop called to tell me they traced the problem to the brake assembly and some bad seals - where the fluid kept leaking out of the brake assembly. They also recognized that the bike was new and how it HAS NOT BEEN RIDDEN. Because the seals were bad and the hydraulic fluid was leaking, they had to replace the brake assembly and rotor. They told me they could order the parts and fix it but that since the bike was NEW and HAS NOT BEEN RIDDEN I should contact the shop from where I bought the bike to see if it would be under warranty. They mechanic at the California shop also stated they'd be happy to speak with the shop where I bought it to tell them what they were finding and how it appeared to be a defective brake assembly. So I called the place I bought it: Sierra Cyclesmith and spoke with "John", who is apparently a mechanic. I tried to explain what was going on and inquire if there was a warranty that would cover this. John didn't know anything and said he was unfamiliar with how to do things. John kept stating "I guess we'll see what we can do" and "We'll try to call you in a few days". I told John that I was going to Mammoth the next day and I needed to know if I was going to pick up the bike and bring back to them for repairs and so equivications such as "I guess" and "we'll try" weren't doing me any good, that I needed something concrete. John continued to equivocate over something as simple as when they'd call me back. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told there were none available. When I expressed surprise at this and that there was nobody in charge at the shop, I was told the supervisor was supposed to be there but hadn't yet arrived (this was at 12:32 in the afternoon). By this time John failed to understand the simple concept of a customer saying "I want a definitive, not a guess or a 'try'." and was getting indignant with me. Since John couldn't give me any definites such as if there would even be a chance they'd honor the warranty after this time, and getting an attitude about me stating that I needed to know if I had to get my bike fixed where it was, or if I had to drive there, get my bike and then find time to drive it a five hour round trip to drop it off at Sierra Cyclesmith and THEN find the time to go BACK to Reno, another five hour trip, I told him that I needed to have the supervisor contact me. I also gave a time line to have the supervisor contact me so that I could make a decision as to how to proceed with repairing an $800 bike that I HAVE NOT YET RIDDEN other than around the parking lot a few times. Ray, who thinks calling customers "fucking douchebags" after calling them ignorant and trying to give them bullshit, does call. Right at the deadline. Ray starts off with stating that he had a note to call me and that I was "screaming" at his mechanic. So already, Ray "I like to insult my customers" at Sierra Cyclesmith was ready to be confrontational rather than try to figure out what was going on. Because I was demanding they fix my bike over the phone, apparently. Which is...yeah. Goes downhill from there and, oddly enough, even after calling me a 'fucking douchebag' and hanging up, decides to call and leave a voicemail asking me to bring the bike back to them so they can see what they can do to fix it. Sorry, the only way I'm going back to you is if I have to file a lawsuit to recoup the cost of repairs on a bike that has NEVER BEEN RIDDEN any further than around your parking lot. You had your chance to do the right. read more

Had picked up a mountain bike off of Craiglist and wanted to have it tuned up before braving the trails. I came in at 11 a.m. on a Tuesday and the line was already out the door. I was helped straight away and they said they would give the bike a once over and call me with what it needed. Less than three hours later they called and the bike needed a full tune up and new brakes front and rear. Total damage? $97 (Totally fair in my mind) The bike was ready in less than 48 hours and it rides like a dream. When I do decide to purchase a brand new bike i'll be coming here. I sold my car to buy a road bike and save on insurance money, and when I went in I was underwhelmed with the service and the pricing. The manager seemed nice enough, but the kid he pawned me off on seemed to be in the middle of something and REALLY didn't like being bothered - he was incredibly inattentive (I later found out when I went to a good bike shop that the size he'd tried to put me on was completely wrong anyway) and disinterested when I had made it pretty clear that I was a walking dollar sign for a $2000-$2500 sale. Service aside, their prices are about par for the course for the industry, but they were unwilling to make any kinds of deals like their competitors were. I ended up going to Reno Cycling and it was night and day compared to my experience here, and I can't recommend that place enough. read more

Just found the time to write this review. I was in town for some heavy cycling training for 5 days in the Reno/Tahoe Area. After a big ride, I noticed a problem with my Venge crank/bottom bracket and needed to get this looked at quickly. I googled a specialized dealer and found Sierra Cyclesmith. Was helped by Ken. I explained my situation and as busy as they were, they told me they could get to it and have it back to me the next day. I was impressed with their expertise and overall customer service. A bike was dropped off for shipping to Sierra Cycle Smith. They took several weeks to arrange for the transport from Reno to So.Cal. Finally received the wrong bike to my home in San Diego. Called many times, put on hold, dropped call or never returned call. Leon, the manager, will not call back or acknowledge the problem. One of his staff tells me my bike was shipped to someone else. My hubby and I have been wanting to purchase some Multi-Use (hybrid) bikes every since we moved here. We are located here in South Reno and they reviews here on Yelp pointed to some places we needed to check out. A beautiful Saturday we went strolling into this store to "look" since it was our first walk into bike shop, we weren't expecting much. I believe the salesman who approached us after a few minutes was named Steven. Who I think is one of the most laid-back people I have ever met. And that to me is the best kind of personality for a salesperson to have. Not a pushy bone in this kids body. We told him what we thought we were looking for and after he pulled a few bikes down and we both tried them out in the parking lot, we were sold. For such a small shop, they have a lot of merchandise. We also purchased our helmets, seats, etc there. Could we have gotten a better deal from perhaps a larger sporting good store? Perhaps but I like working with the smaller shops. Now, hopefully this great weather sticks for a while so we can use these amazing bikes... read more

The very best customer service. I went in with a broken rear hub a year and 1 month after buying my bike from them. Specialized only does a one year so I was worried. Took it in and they said no problem, they would handle it get a new one in two weeks. I was super greatfull, but still slightly bummed that I couldn't ride for two weeks. They tried to find a wheel in the shop, but couldn't find one that would work. Again I was grateful but bummed. Then they asked me how large my frame was and I said it was a large. I Inquisitively asked why. They gave me a carbon fiber demo bike until my wheel came in. Unreal! Super pumped. Just know that these guys will have your back. That was only one of the several encounters that created a lifetime customer. Can't say enough good things. read more

These guys provide friendly, fast, and knowledgeable service. They have a wide variety of Trek and Specialized bikes, and will let you test any of them out, no questions asked. Their spot-adjustments and free tuneups for the first year of purchasing have so far been perfect, and have dealt with the few issues I've gotten from either hitching a bike to a roof or taking my no-suspension hybrid out on mountain bike trails. Brought my custom tandem here for a tune up. Got the full-monty (including frame waxing and cleaning). They have GREAT mechanics, and I will only let Sierra's mechanics touch my tandem or my Seven. I have only 1 gripe, and that is that the frame waxing job that I paid for didn't happen. shame on me for not saying anything, but I was back home(40 miles away) before I really noticed.
