You'd never know it was there unless, well, you knew it was there. Decor-wise it's pretty cute. A big wooden tree that doubles as shelves spans one of the walls, the coffee comes with heart-shaped teaspoons and they've got terrariums with plastic dinosaurs on the tables. The vibe is upbeat and friendly. You get the feeling that it's a favourite amongst locals and given it's size, would be packed on the weekend. As for the food, they've got an extensive brunch & lunch menu handwritten on those cool paper rollers. Unfortunately I was running short on time so I opted for their bacon and vege stack to takeaway. It came heated with a generous pottle of homemade tomato chutney. Flavour-wise, it was nothing new but it was pretty damn tasty. She loved this place as its her local so we headed down around 11am, it was pretty busy for weekday which was good but surprising. We snagged a table inside next to the counter. The decor is cute, fresh and light. Service was really nice and were asked for our coffee orders right away. Looking over the menu was hard as there were so many options that looked amazing. I decided to go for the salmon eggs Benedict on homemade hash brown as that hash brown sounded so good. My friend grabbed the chorizo omelette. The food took its time to arrive, but we were ok to wait as we had nothing planned for the day, maybe just something note! The food was delicious, and huge servings. The hash browns were my favourite part of the dish because they were so crunchy - definitely recommend trying those! The omelette looks massive and also came with some ciabatta bread. There aren't many places that make a proper long black but Teedy does, water on the side not in the cup, that is sacrilege, you dilute the caffeine content. The space is cool too, big and airy with plenty of seats and if you don't mind pigeons there is outdoor seating too. Inside the crates for tables are pretty cool and add to the relaxed vibe. Teed Street Larder is one of those places you can stay a while, order a coffee or two and just chill out. Easily also one of the best places to get a double shot of the good stuff.

Stanley's was absolutely packed; there were ladies who lunch, businessmen in suits, grandmas enjoying a cuppa and a hipster teen out with his mother. It struck me that this is the kind of place where everyone feels comfortable. The interior is simple, clean and fuss free with ceiling to floor windows that make it beautifully light inside (even when it is miserable outside). Of course, there are also exposed light features but in this case they work brilliantly with the fresh, white interior. Within 10minutes my takeaway soup had arrived with the bag of cheesy goodness and boy, was I excited. When I got home, I transferred the piping hot soup to a bowl and noticed that they had served it with fresh sage and a drizzle of cream. The little things really can a difference. The soup smelt absolutely devine and tasted equally as good; thick and hearty with a rich tomato flavour. Combined with the cheesy toast this was most definitely a substantial lunch. This weekend was a double visit. On Saturday a coffee and blueberry muffin was a mid morning treat. The muffin wasn't the biggest in the world but was lovely and moist with lots of berries. Sunday was a working bee and the homemade chicken and beef and ale pies hit the spot at lunchtime and provided the energy to keep going with the wallpaper stripping. I think that's why it took me so long to go to Welcome Eatery. I remember seeing an event Gather & Hunt did there but then sort of forgot about it. It wasn't until I was searching for a place to co-work after a meeting that it popped up. Anyway, as it turns out, I'm an idiot because Welcome Eatery is A W E S O M E, and the perfect spot to co-work, I might add (just don't go hogging a table all day drinking one long black, these guys get buuuuusy). Having replaced breakfast with two coffees, I was ravenous when I arrived so quickly ordered their version of a Philly cheese-steak (who knew you could get them in NZ). This was my first time trying the famous East coast dish and to be honest, before now it wasn't high on my wish list, but it was EPIC. Beautiful buttery bread, tender steak with a generous amount of caramelized onion sauce all topped with melted cheese (provolone & cheddar, i'm told). Heaven! I'd happily drive across the bridge to do it all over again. Somehow, I get the feeling I'm going to be hanging out in Grafton a little more often!
