My girlfriend and I recently made our first trip to Grass Valley, and visiting Sierra Gold & Coin was one of the highlights of our visit. We actually first met the Sierra Gold & Coin team at a coin show in San Jose the week before, which inspired us to make the trip out. When we arrived at the shop, Deb took great care of us. She was extremely respectful and took the time to let us browse their bullion selection without any pressure. We felt welcomed from the moment we walked in. As collectors coming from the Bay Area, we really appreciated the variety they offered. They had a great selection of bullion, coins, and hobby accessories, including some pieces that aren't commonly available at many other coin shops. We ended up picking up a few items we were excited to find. On top of that, Deb also shared some great recommendations on places to visit and things to see around the Grass Valley area, which made our trip even more enjoyable. The moment I walked into this shop I was overwhelmed with cigarette smoke, the place was messy and unprofessional. This woman working in there was not very nice but whatever. I was selling some gold and immediately knew I was being ripped off. I didn't go with my instinct that the gold was worth way more than what she was giving me. This woman didn't weigh the gold as I know that it is part of the process, very crooked and I fell for it unfortunately. This was my first time visiting Grass Valley, and stopping by Sierra Gold & Coin was such a great experience! We had met them the week before at a coin show in San Jose, which made us excited to visit their shop. When we came in, Deb was incredibly kind, respectful, and welcoming. She gave us the space to take our time and look through their bullion and coin selections without feeling pressured. I really enjoyed seeing the wide variety they carry, including coins and accessories for the hobby. It was a fun and comfortable environment, and we were able to find some unique pieces that we hadn't seen at other shops. What I appreciated even more was that Deb also gave us wonderful recommendations for places to visit and explore around Grass Valley, which made our first trip to the area even more memorable. We called to make an exchange of gold and was told to wait until Thursday and we had called on Tuesday We called on Thursday and she did not want our business. She kept pushing us off. She was very rude and hung up on my husband. Her professionalism is below the average when exchanging gold or silver. I do not trust her. She is not honest because if we would have waited, we would've lost our goal of exchange. This lady or person does not know what they're doing. Stay far from her. Just being honest here I got some pretty sketchy vibes. The place and people seemed messy and disorganized. I told the lady it was my first time selling gold and that I didn't know what I was doing. She offered me 80% of spot for a 20$ gold piece that I had. Saying the coins were in bad condition (they weren't, just normal wear). I called like 5 other places and they all offered me 95%! Visited this store to sell some gold coins. They offered me a low price and would not negotiate. I went to another Coin Dealer the next day and sold the coins for 20% more than Sierra Gold offered. Also, their store wreaked of tobacco smoke to the point of making me ill. Would not go back to this shop. read more

My sister and I had brought in a giant box of coins that was given to use. They were so helpful and patient with us when we went through them. They helped us understand exactly what we had and fully explained what had value or WHAT was "vacation money" (currency received outside the USA with little or no value). Deb & John are fantastic people! I have been there 3 or 4x in the last couple of months and they have ALWAYS been fair, honest and very knowledgeable. I have never felt so valued as a customer, especially when having to sell my stuff. That is the hardest part sometimes, seriously. They are efficient and honest... beyond reproach. The women who runs the shop is not only unbelievably rude and nasty to deal with, but she is also extremely unknowledgeable about coins. She wouldn't even give me her opinion on my coins grade or a value other than melt. All she could do was look in her book, at a specific grade of coin, which was completely irrevelent to mine, and give me that price. She had absolutely no idea where my coin could land on the sheldon scale.
