Kernville was wall-to-wall people everyone enjoying the Mountains, sunshine, Kern, river, and America's 250th birthday. James store was busy as might be expected on the big holiday weekend. I headed to the meat department too many choices. I decided on 2 habanero and 2 black pepper chicken kebabs to barbecue and a 6 pack of carnation drumsticks for dessert. The store looked great decorated and fully stocked they were ready for 4 July holiday. Shelly my cashier was super, all check stands were open very little waiting. Our barbecued kebabs Saturday night were delicious seasoned perfect and the marinade just right. The drumsticks hit the spot as well. Happy birthday America

Gals said 25 minutes so we drove into Kernville checked out the mighty Kern River before we headed back to Charlie's They were slicing our pie as I entered, perfect timing. The 8 mile drive up Hwy 155 to our cabin was tough because Charlie's pizza smelled so good. Service was friendly but they want to make sure you are a customer before asking for the washroom key! Washroom is inside towards the back of the store so you can take in all the "stuff" they carry here. Washroom was clean for how much traffic this store has coming through it. Fill up if you can here before traveling because through the canyon you would not want to run out of gas and there is little to no cell service in many areas even on the main highway.

Been going here for a few years. The female cashiers aren't too friendly. They seldom say thanks…read moreand hand the receipt to me while looking the other way, sometimes dropping it. That is as rude as one can get! The restrooms seldom have soap, and is a pig sty. Produce is usualy a stone throw from rotten. The rest of the store is very clean and always well stocked. A note to the owner..... Fix or train your employees, they act like they hate their job. There are those out there that would be thankful and would love to have that job. The customer is your livelihood. Remember that.
