Just had the best breakfast burrito I ever had. The Redneck Breakfast Burrito is expertly created with potatoes, bacon, cheese and covered in breakfast gravy. The workers at this store were all unfriendly and downright rude. As for the food, I ordered a breakfast burrito with sausage links and eggs and I was given a burrito that was basically 95% potatoes and tasteless. I would save your money and drive 5 minutes down the road to the Sierra Market. It's tradition to stop in here every trip out to the Kern River. Lots of supplies, snacks, ice, gear, bait and well stocked store that has saved us in a pinch. The mean reason I stop here is for a burger with fries and a chocolate shake!!! Food is so good and I always enjoy all the craft souvenirs available. From woodsy figurines of bears, fisherman and local wildlife to magnets and wall art, it's truly a small general store with a big feel to it. The family that runs it is always so kind and friendly. A few friends and I camped out locally, and this general store just happened to be 1 min away. We stopped by three times and each time we went, we were greeted and welcomed by someone different but all were friendly. This store has great hours (opens early closes late). It has ample amount of parking. This place is definitely a general store as it has everything from ice, water gear, small cafe, and just about anything else you may need. We were super grateful for this store on our trip, and if you're in the area don't forget to pay them a visit! read more

I'm so sad to see the owners are retiring and I hope whoever buys keeps the breakfast the same. This is a must stop place for my husband and I every time we are up on kern. We usually just do breakfast which has such yummy biscuits and gravy but this time we picked up some of their potato and mac salad and let me tell you.... They were SO dang good. The food tastes like it was old and unseasoned. But my real issue is that worker tried to over charge me 14 dollars. Luckily I noticed l and he tried to tell me that my french toast special and breakfast burritos was $38 dollars. When i asked out much the french toast special was he replied $14 and the burrito was $10. Only once i confronted him that that is $24 not $38 did he give me back my money. read more

Last store to go up the river, get ur drinks, food and gears here. We were here Wednesday, ordered breakfast, biscuit n gravy with bacon and scramble eggs. I was surprised how good the gravy was! It wasn't salty like everywhere! Finally! Yes! Thank you , and my man here got himself a hat for only 14.99! What a deal. Tips - this is a seasonal store. They do a hard closure in November through March (I think). So if you drive by during winter and it looks deserted, that's totally normal. Also, they do not sell things like mega lotto tickets; get those 3 miles away at Primo. When we stay in Riverkern, this is our go-to place. They have a nice little deli/restaurant inside. Coffee. Breakfast sandwiches. Lunch. Dinner plates. Their BBQ will lure you in. It smells amazing! I had the tri-tip sandwich. I tried to be healthy and just eat the protein. Then I said, damn I'm on vacation, just eat the sandwich. The roll was the perfect toast/crunch addition to the tri-tip. It was served with Mac salad and ranch bean. These are real people serving real food. I didn't check for gluten free, vegan options. On the store side, you can find some amazing beef jerky, get your fishing license, pick up some t shirts or the makings for s'mores. One of the reviewers said the staff was not LGBT friendly. I don't want to discount their experience, but share ours. My girl and I have been going to this store for 3+ years. We are obviously a lesbian couple and we have never had any negative encounters with the staff, we always pay on the same bill. I also know there has been a change in staff. This isn't the fanciest place in Kernville but the service is friendly and it hits the spot when you've been driving around all day or want a genuine Kernville mountain town experience. I got breakfast but, get here before 11am bc that's when they stop serving breakfast. I tried the eggs, country fries and coffee. They refilled my coffee multiple times and were always friendly. Honestly nothing to brag about but no complaints either and the place is charming albeit small. There are maybe 3 tables lol. They sell everything you might need in a pinch if you're camping. My girlfriend and I were camping near the Kern River and stopped here for coffee. The waitress/cashier who was helping us asked if we'd be paying together or separate, and when I started to reply "Together," a man who I assumed was the owner came barging up from further behind the counter and said forcefully, "Together or separate?" I said together again and he looked me dead in the eye with obvious animosity and said "it'd be better separate." I didn't want to believe that he was being so blatantly homophobic but what he said doesn't make any sense in any other context. Excellent cheeseburgers with plenty of condiments, cooked right and very filling but not overly messy. My burger was perfect and hubby loved his double cheeseburger as well. The fries were delicious but the onion rings were the best I've had anywhere. I highly recommend them. 2 meals with a side each for $20 and we couldn't finish the fries, we were so full. The environment is dark, cozy, and homey. Lots to see in the store, and a friendly staff. You are in the base of the Sequoia National Forest there and the little town surrounding the store is beautiful. Right across from the store is access to the river. We were staying across the street at the lodge and wanted a quick meal. We got in late and decided to order some burgers and a patty melt. Wow, was I glad we did! I had a burger, my husband had a double burger and fries, my daughter a patty melt. Everything was so delicious and cooked perfectly! The next day we went fishing early ..so my husband picked up some breakfast burritos. I had the bacon breakfast burrito, my daughter had the Tri-tip burrito. They were both fantastic! Both Had fresh peppers, potatoes and salsa. They were so good-I went back over to complement the chef. If you are in Kern River make sure to stop by for some delicious food with tons of flavor! Although Riverkern General Store is really small, it has all the camping essentials. It's a great place to stop for supplies if you don't want to drive the extra mile to the much bigger James Market (http://www.yelp.com/biz/james-markets-kernville#query:james%20store) . Yes, I'm that lazy. I got my River Run here for just $21! My friend bought hers the same day at James Market for $25. FYI you don't get reception here, nor is there a public phone. You have to drive another 1/2 mile to reach the reception area. They accept credit cards for minimum purchases of $10. read more

If you are headed to the river, or hiking, or sequoia for the day this is a great place to pack your picnic. They have a super nice group working here! They offered my dog water and bones and diagnosed my hiking ailment (stinging nettle). I noticed they also serve hot meals and have a variety of camping and fishing gear. read more

At first we were there to check out prices for my 3 year old toys for her to play for our journey back 200 miles south. But as we went to the store the had a small are to eat, at first we were thinking let's find a restaurant on our way back down, but my wife said , let's try it we are here. So we ordered 2 cheeseburgers and a Philly steak sandwich, man that philly steak was awesome, I didn't see that coming it was so good we ordered a second one, and started talking to the husband and wife and they were the nicest people ever, and to give you a picture I am a 5'6 Latino guy and he must of been a 6'4 white guy and we ended up talking for a while and his wife was a sweetheart and helped us find Rivernook camp site where we actually booked for our next camping trip. It's a small little store with everything you need the staff are extremely friendly I had ham and eggs with wheat toast and potatoes its was good and it hit the hit. Placed to sit and eat are limited so get here early and beat the crowd .. It's worth it. They got a deli too plus Ice cream. This place is like two min away from my cabin so it's perfect .. It's a small hidden gem but it's awesome with a great vibe and decoration that you can actually purchase. Make at a place to to hit when your in town. read more

This market was right across the street from our hotel. We usually go to the Sierra market which is closer to town when we come to Kernville but this place is great. Its small but it has all the supplies you might need. Not as big as a selection as the other place but great none the less. The owner is super friendly and so is everyone who works here. I got the river run raft (the white one with the cupholders) for $21 when its $25 at the bigger store. They also have a high pressure hose to fill up your raft. THANK GOODNESS for that. My lungs thank you riverkern. They also have BBQ on a grill outside and lots of food. We had the chicken tenders and fries and it was all yummy. Come here for any supplies, snacks, and rafts! Oh and their river rat cup is the best. I used it my entire trip. read more
