The inside is way bigger than it looks. They had the cutest whimsical decor, some rustic, some more modern. The larger wooden pieces are VERY well priced, low hundreds for well made new/vintage pieces. The outdoor garden is also surprisingly extensive! Had everything from rare/exotic houseplants to huge common native outdoor plants. Could definitely spend hours in here, happily. Beware, when buying lumber, they will quickly load up their warped, cracked, damaged wood first. You will have to stop them and say "I don't want the warped knotted wood". I bought some redwood deck railing 2x2, they wrapped the pickets together 6 boards at a time. None of their store wrapped wood had tags stapled on the end of the boards identifying it, who knows what it was. At least 50% of the pickets were all white redwood, not even red. Some 3' pickets had a 1/2" bow to them. Very very disappointing, pay more for gas to travel and buy lumber elsewhere. shame on you for taking advantage of your non contractor majority. read more

Pretty disappointed and disgusted with our last trip to this hardware store. No employees roaming the floor had their masks on properly or were even wearing one at all. I had to ask several employees to back up or not to come near me. Another employee, who we did not ask for help, decided to walk over to us with her mask dangling off one ear. We asked her to put her mask on before she approached us. She became irritated and incredibly rude and belligerent. She even tried to talk us out of purchasing the products we specifically came to the store to buy because it meant she would need to order more and didn't want to, which she told us flat out. If you want to be an idiot and contract the Corona Virus because you're too selfish to put a piece of fabric over your nose and mouth, that's fine; it's your choice to get sick and die, but don't act surprised when other people don't feel that way and don't want you near them. We may choose to shop here again after the pandemic, but for now, I'm not giving them my business until they get their act together and take the pandemic seriously. read more

Calaveras Lumber - Great Place!! - Hardware Stores Near Me - Angels Camp, California

I've been undergoing a major remodel for the last two years, and have done my best to use Calaveras lumber since they are locally owned but, in the last six months or so their customer service has gone down the toilet. The final straw happened with an order for handrails. We placed a special order and had nothing but problems. We started attempting to get the order placed on August 8. It is now October 10 and we will have to return everything and start from scratch because Calaveras lumber screwed up our order so badly that it was going to be thousands more dollars to complete it properly. They did not offer to eat the cost, even though we know they have a 100% markup on the items and still would've made about $2000 on our order. Everybody makes mistakes but, it's how those mistakes are handled that I make the choice to frequent the business after or not. Lowes had an equally large mistake and fixed it and offered us an immediate 25% discount on our entire order. Calaveras lumber employees kept saying it wasn't their fault and putting us off and being incredibly rude. If you're just picking up some thing from the hardware store, this is fine but, if you are placing any special order, I would definitely go somewhere else. read more

This review is mostly for the gardening supplies section although from my cursory glance the rest of the store seems to be up to any challenge whether you're a weekend-warrior handyman or a full fledged contractor. Like most men, I could easily fall down the rabbit hole dreaming up ways to spend my money here...and I wouldn't be upset! I found myself searching the various hardware/gardening stores looking for some very specific pots, soil, and fertilizers for a bonsai project I've embarked on. After spending many hours driving around I stopped in here and was blown away by the excellent presentation and selection of everything I could need. The folks at the register and floor staff we're very nice and helpful as well! A hearty 5-Stars for this great store! read more

Jeff! I came in and as per usual the staff was incredibly helpful. This time, I locked my keys in the car. Jeff did not hesitate when I asked him to follow me to my car and check it out. Turns out he was a mechanic and what a place for it to happen! The hardware store. He left and came back with a rod he was able to bend into place for us to flip the lock on the inside of my door. Jeff and the staff saved our day. He even helped us with some recommendations on bolts and washers after that (our original purpose for going). This is our go-to hardware and garden supply for the farm we are renovating. We frequently utilize the garden center and contractors desk. However this review is specifically because of our visit today. We stopped in to get some charcoal right at closing at one of the employees ran through the store to make sure we got the free item that was part of the current special they were having. Employees aren't required to wear masks and neither are customers. I've spent a ton of money here in the last 15 years. Not requiring masks is a sign of disrespect. They have no idea who has Covid and who doesn't and they don't care. If you as a customer care, then don't shop anywhere that your not treated with respect. You won't be in the store 5 minutes before someone is going to offer to help you. That someone will be knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I don't know how they do it, there often seems to be more people working there than there are shopping there. I do most of my work a few miles from the store, there's not many days that I'm not there at least once. There are very few mornings there's not at least one 40 ft truck unloading building materials. They move a LOT of material through that store. Their delivery service is great. The hardware section isn't large, but carries the most common merchandise. The tool department is very well stocked. The garden department? I inquired about some specific flowers. A wonderfully nice lady checked to make sure that they were included in their weekly order, and called me when they came in. If there's a line at the cash registers, someone calls a backup cashier immediately. Popcorn and coffee are free; these are nice people who understand the concept of customer service, something that's not that common these days. read more

Some of the clerks are young and so somewhat lacking in experience, but so polite and friendly that you don't really mind. I stopped in because i was told they had a great nursery. The did have a good selection of bedding plants but I would not say they were a 'nursery". They had a few shrubs and trees but nothing that would constitute a landscape nursery. I am sure they get a lot of business from Greenhorn Creek, but if customers really want a fine selection of trees and shrubs they should drive the extra 15 minutes up Hwy 4 to Murphys Nursery. read more

The rudest cashier I have ever encountered works here. Went to buy an 89 cent I bolt needed two washers to go with it but oh my I didn't have the five digit number for my 9 cent washers. Was told by cashier if it wasn't in her "lookup" I would have to go get her the number. I said not today and left the store. won't go back for this reason and I sent an email 5 days ago and no response so guess it's ok they treat customers this way. read more
