This may sound a little lofty, but it's true and I need to shout it from the rooftops: Dr. Richard Chang at Sierra Pacific Pediatric Associates has singlehandedly restored my trust in the medical profession. Located in the Sierra Lakes area of North Fontana, the medical building is new, and was built within the last 3 years. Dr. Chang's office is unassuming but clean and very well appointed - a small modern, Ikea-inspired waiting room (no 10 year old ratty issues of 'Highlights' magazine, thanks very much) with a few clean toys and books to entertain the troops while you wait. . .but at Dr. Chang's office, you never really wait that long. The longest we've every waited for an appointment is 10 minutes. Unheard of in this area, where there are oodles of young families. But it's true. That's only the beginning. Once you are inside the exam room, you will be greeted by Dr. Chang's smiling face - exactly what you want in any doctor, especially a pediatrician. You will NEVER be rushed through your appointment. He will answer all questions, and never makes you feel as though you don't have a right to medical information pertaining to your children. His bedside manner and ability to disarm and relate to young children is something to behold. However, there are more great points about this practice! In his mid 30's, and married to a fellow pediatrician, Dr. Chang is a parent himself to 2 young daughters. He relates well to parents as well as patients. He can sense when you are worried, because he is compassionate and empathetic to the patient as well as the worry wart new mom or dad. Always erring on the side of caution, Dr. Chang is very attentive, without being an advocate of unnecessary tests, or procedures. Another thing I appreciate is the fact that his office is not a billboard for pharmaceutical companies. He puts the patient first, and when the patient is your kid, that is invaluable. Perhaps the best thing about Dr. Chang is the personal nature of his practice. The first time we visited him, he told us that although he was in the building stages of his practice, he would never allow it to get so big that he couldn't recognize all of his patients by sight. He knows each of my children, and calls them by name and I get the sense that he really cares about their health and wellbeing, and about our overall wellbeing as a family. How amazing that is in this day and age! Dr. Chang is also responsive. If your child is sick, he makes room in his schedule to see him or her, often the same day that you call. He returns his phone calls quickly. He is reachable by email, and he also is great about responding that way. Short of making house calls, Dr. Chang is as close as you can come to an old fashioned pediatrician. This type of personalized health care is something that is hard to find these days. If you are looking for a new pediatrician due to a move, or if you're currently dissatisfied with your childrens' care provider, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Chang. Friendly and Helpful staff, Check decent waiting times, check The best pediatrician, check!!!! Dr. Chang and the entire staff is simply FANTASTIC. I had to switch to a different doctor for a few months for my son because my insurance changed and had a horrible experience. Thank Goodness I got to go back to going here! The office is very clean. I did see some child proofing items installed which is good. Dr.Chang is on point and then some. He knew what my son had was simple dermatitis but my other doctor had him on Nutramagen because she said he was allergic to formula, the formula cost me almost $10 a day and my son was throwing it up and loosing weight. When my insurance went back I had a choice to go back to Dr.Chang. I did in a heart beat. I'm glad I did because he figured out it was just dry skin and that there were some easy fixes for that. He recommended dove soap and Eucerin lotion, because my sons skin would turn red with anything else we used. He also offers suggestions and spends the time I need for me to ask questions as a first time mom. My husband and I are pleased! There are also days they have done same day appointments with no problem as well. Which was much more cost effective for me than taking my son to urgent care. read more

As a PA who used to work in Family Medicine, I know a good doctor when I see one! If I could give him 10 stars I would. Dr. Chang is my son's pediatrician and was chosen by recommendation from our Lamaze teacher, who is well connected within the San Antonio medical community. She did not disappoint! I hardly get put on hold when I call. I always get a same day appointment. Dr. Chang is on time for his appointments. He's knowledgeable and gives useful anticipatory guidance. Without his advice, I would still be waking up for a midnight feeding -- now I'm sleeping 8 hours through the night with our 4 month old! And my response to the 1st reviewer: I don't mind paying for good service. I'd be glad to pay extra knowing that my son receives good medical care. We've been seeing Dr Chang since my son was born six years ago and now they see my daughter as well. He is honestly the best doctor I could've chosen. He has great bedside manner, always listens to ALL my questions and concerns and takes his time to explain EVERYTHING. My son loves and trusts him and the rest of the office. We've also been seen by Dr. Ho, Dr. Lin, and more recently Dr. Lau and they have all been AMAZING. They are all a great, caring group of doctors. When there's something concerning with your child at home, they call to follow up to see how they're doing and even when there's a problem on the weekend, you can get through to someone that will help you. The assistants and reception people are all great as well. I've never had any billing issues with my insurance, they make everything pretty clear. This whole practice has a special place in our hearts we are so grateful for all of them. read more

I would highly recommend Dr. Chang. We were referred to him by my OBGYN and being a first time paranoid mother I am extremely happy with how he has given me peace of mind. You can get an appointment same day on most days, and he answers all my questions no matter how absurd they may seem. Plus I was pleasantly surprised with how he is very supportive regarding healthy breastfeeding and making me feel great about keeping it up, and also healthy foods for my baby, but when I did tell him we switched to formula he was very supportive of that too. I'm used to people that are PRO-BF to really try to push for it, but he did not make me feel bad about it all, he didn't even say a thing. That was a relief. I feel as though he really cares about our daughter like she was his own, and he is really good about answering my emails when I have silly questions that I know are not urgent. read more

TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE! Just sad! My daughter got an ear infection diagnosed by Dr. Chang. She took the medicine for the full treatment plan and it was still present. Made an appt w Dr Lin she prescribed a diff medicine and it was still present. Took her back in to see Dr Chang-- he said it was all clear. She ended up w a fever of 102.4 and cried incessantly (6 weeks later) Dr Lin said it was a new infection and I was reluctant to believe her. I ended up taking her advice and giving my daughter a new medicine that she couldn't even keep down. This all happened the week of thanksgiving. Finally, We took my daughter in the Wednesday before thanksgiving thinking they would have a number to call if we had questions over the holiday-- NOPE! Closed, phones were forwarded to a Dr Saad he said my daughter absolutely cannot have an ear infection based on symptoms. He stayed on the phone with me for 40 minutes until I got to the urgent care then he called and made sure that they took us right away. During the conversation he told me that he was unaware that he was taking calls for Dr Chang but his heart went out to me after 28 years of practice. He touched my heart and earned a patient. Three days later I got a letter dismissing me from the clinic for questioning how Chang's office couldn't properly diagnose a 9 mo old baby. That's just one incident... I need to also tell you how he persuaded my entire family Into getting the flu shot-- he explained how a local Kid died and 7 were hospitalized by him alone for the flu. He always gave us the doom and gloom version of healthcare and did not practice with much confidence he had an awkward laugh during patient care that was so off-putting and distracting that it made one wonder when leaving Another example was my daughter had trouble with constipation-- he kept prescribing laculose; for seven months it did not work. We finally gave her miralax at the advice of Dr Lin. Worked and has been working... Regarding the front office staff-- there's NO BIGGER REASON TO LEAVE AN OFFICE BESIDES RUDE OFFICE STAFF read more

Pros: 1. Dr. Chang answers all your questions and gives you clear and complete explanations for everything he does. Even throws in interesting backstory and tidbits from time to time. Which is good because me and my wife always like to do our own medical research on google and Dr. Chang saves us hours of time. 2. I can book an appt in 1 day or even same day at times. 3. Wait time is like 5 minutes or less. Cons: 1. Recommended for us a Neuro Specialist who was the worst of all time. We saw the specialist in the hospital, 2 office visits, and multiple unreturned phone calls. Each interaction left us feeling like wtf? Our son seems fine now no thanks to her. I adore Dr. Chang!!!! We moved to town in November & I needed to get my boys physicals for school admissions. They were able to get me in very quickly. Dr. Chang might be the most through pediatrician my boys have had yet. He clearly enjoys his job & takes the extra time to educate when he's with us. I love that he invites me to look in my kid's throat with him & points out what you would be looking for to identify strep, or when he explains how they used to treat certain infections or illnesses. I feel like a first year med student in a teaching hospital!!! How could you not fall in love with that kind of attention to detail??!!! The only downside is that EVERYONE gets that kind of special treatment so bring the iPad's because he will be running late. But do you want a doctor that's on time or one that won't miss a thing? read more

Okay, yes. I love Dr. Chang as well. He's smart and thorough, and he is playful with the children. He's just a good doctor. I'm so glad to have found him. That being said, his staff could be nicer. They aren't necessarily rude, but they seem like they wish they were anywhere but working, and that assumption is based off of several visits to the office. Regardless, Dr. Chang is just too good. Sierra Pacific Pediatrics has always provided my children with the most up to date and safest medical and health services for the past 15 years. Dr. Chang truly cares for his patients. He takes his time with his patients and never rushes during appointments. He is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and caring. Dr. Chang has a wonderful staff as well. Both Mirna and Myra have been with Dr. Chang since he opened his practice in Fontana. Mirna always goes out of her way to help all the patients. When speaking with Mirna you can immediately tell she truly cares about the patients. She does this by going out of her way to do whatever is necessary to help accommodate a patient. She has always made every effort to help me with appointments, insurance issues, and any questions I may have. Myra is also very friendly and knowledgeable. Today we tried out Dr. Chang. I have heard great things about him and his office. After my sons 4 year old well check and shots I am still very upset at the experience we had. I plan to call him later and tell him personally why I won't be returning. My son was due for 4 shots but I said I wanted to break them up and only get two today. He got his shots and when I got to my car I checked the immunization record and they had stamped that he got 4 shots! I went back in and showed them, the front desk girl said oh I assumed since he was 4 that he got all 4 shots..so he was marked down as having MMR, polio, varicella and dtap..now I'm freaking out going well which two did he get? She gave me the paper I signed that said MMR and dtap..those were the two I said he will get today...she had to white out his shot record the one I keep...this is unacceptable and has me second guessing now what he received.... On to the doctor...he was very friendly but he mentioned several times in front of my kids how some kid got sick and DIED from some disease locally...he also mentioned kids ages 2-5 can drown and die...this is NOT what my children need to hear when all we went in for is a check up! I'm totally appalled by his lack of judgement and what you should and should not say in front of a child...He also mentioned that they don't use rectal thermometers any more because some baby got his colon perforated and died..SHEESH! This doctor really needs to watch what he says! I have no idea why he would tell me these stories! Then he examined my son felt his tummy and told him twice no one is allowed to touch you but your mommy...are you freakin kidding me? Why would he say that? I think that's for me and my husband to talk to him about that...he also checked an area down below where he had surgery and said looks good(he looked at the wrong part). Then he examined his mouth and pointed to two brown spots on two Molars and told me he has two cavities..we have an excellent ped dentist and are currently watching a couple Cavities in different teeth so I am aware of what cavities look like...when I got to the car I looked again..it was raisins stuck to his teeth he had eaten before we went in. How is this guy a good doctor? I wanted to write this to let people know what to watch out for and that you have to really pay attention to protect your kids..I could have gone home had I not checked his immunization record and he would have been marked down as having had two vaccines that he didn't get today. This is my first written review on yelp. I do rely on reviews to help make decisions. And usually i'm satisfied with my action. So, I had rely on yelp to help me find a great doctor. This was my first Time bringing my son to Dr. Chang. And figured i will bring my daughter for her well check up when she is due for one. He seemed like a very nice, happy and a dorky person. Yet, I don't think I will be returning. I guess I didn't feel comfortable with his selection of words. At the end of the visit I just wasn't satisfied. Pros: 1. the Front staff are friendly 2. The wait is quick. 5-10 minutes. 3. Doctor asks if parents have question and answers them. 4. You don't feel rushed 5. Shows you child's growth chart 6. Easy going when my toddler was going through the cabinet. Being her active self. Cons: 1. When my son was getting weighed. My son's former doctor's staff would tell me to undress my son including diaper to an accurate weight. @Dr. Chang I ask the nurse if she wanted me to. She said no it wasn't necessary. I asked can I at least change him his diaper it's full? She then repeated herself, but seemed annoyed. 2. I had a few questions in mind. I told the doctor how my son's likes to tilt his head to one side. He said give him tummy time. I said I have, but he doesn't like it. He then says well he won't like it but you make him. it's like if they don't like to do their homework, but you make them. He could've said well some babies dislike it, but with practice it will get better. Then a condition he was born with i just wanted to know if he'll outgrow it. Then the Dr. said some kids are born that way. just like some people might have overly large hands. It's just them. It didn't really answer my question. .And when the Dr. was going over about the shots. He ask me if I wanted the shots broken up. I said what ever is recommended. He describe a baby in area dying because of some type of virus. Very alarming. 3. Didn't ask us about my son's history to get to know him better. My Son was in NICU for 3 weeks. 4. Didn't ask how we found him. We came from Anaheim. A 45 minute drive. So we are willing to drive if the doctor is excellent. 5. since my son was on a vitamin D supplement because he's breastfed I asked if I should continue with that since the NICU doctor's requested me to do so. dr. said if you live in Seattle then yes because of the weather condition. So since you don't live in Seattle just give him some sun. 6. Although, I didn't want to be demanding or feel comfortable to ask more questions. The wifi went down so he wasn't able to record anything else onto the laptop until the wifi was up again. That pretty much end the visit. I'm not a doctor. My expectations aren't too high, but I would like to find a doctor who I can TRUST and feel comfortable with. Who will be there until my kids are adults. Dr. Chang is AWESOME! I agree with all the comments made. However, the receptionist girls are rude! He should really think about getting new ones. I came in 45 minutes before they closed the office and due to some insurance issues my visit was delayed. While on the phone with the insurance I could hear the receptionist bickering about how she needed to go home and that she needed to know if my daughter was going to be seen or not. OBVIOUSLY! I want my daughter to be seen if I am trying to sort out the issues with my insurance in the office waiting area! After getting off the phone with our health insurance provider and explaining what the issue was, they refused to see my daughter even though I had cleared up the insurance issue. I have been coming to Dr.Chang's office for over a year and I thought it was rude and inconsiderate for the secretary/receptionist...whatever they are...to be complaining about her needing to go home and not even being discreet about it. I was extremely bothered at how they treated me during that visit. My daughter was never seen because they made me feel like it was an inconvenience to them to stay an extra 5 minutes after office hours, I ended up walking out and crying of frustration due to the whole ordeal. I would love to return to Dr. Chang's office but I am dreading having to see those receptionist stink faces again. read more

Dr. Chang's office staff is pleasant and professional. More than once, I've called the office seeking a same day appointment and have always been accommodated. No hassles, no runaround and always a friendly and caring response. Dr. Chang is very, very good at what he does. Genuinely caring, efficient, through and never rushed in the treatment room. He builds a rapport with both the patients ( my son and daughter) as well as with me. His treatment methodology is sensible and practical. He leverages technology through the use of his handheld computer which is comforting knowing he has my child's history in front of his and convenient for me because he sends off prescriptions to the pharmacy of my choice while still in the room. His office is right down the street from us and I literally waited less than 5 minutes to be seen. I was even able to get a flu shot for myself while there. Dr. Chang and his staff are absolutely fantastic. Not only can we get a quick turnaround on an appointment, but we very rarely have to wait once we are at the office. Dr. Chang is very easy to communicate with, and he is always happy to answer my (sometimes silly) questions. I have been taking my kids to Dr. Chang and Dr. Lin for many years. They take their time and listen to our concerns and address each one accordingly. Dr. Chang is our primary Dr. and he will explain exactly what he will be doing and why. After each exam, he sits down with us to review the information and will answer any questions. He also makes himself available, via email, for any lab results or follow up questions I may have. Aside from the Dr's, the staff is nice. The other major factor behind the Dr's, is the billing department. I have been to many pediatrics/family practice offices and I often have billing issues and have to reach out to my insurance to correct. I have NEVER experienced this with Dr. Chang's office, they do an excellent job with explaining benefits and making sure the insurance is doing their job for me. They are by far on top of this and it is comforting to know that when my kids are sick, the Dr's will be there and the insurance will be billed correctly. With my large family, I've seen a lot of doctors over the years. This morning I saw Dr. Lin, and I've already been very pleased with Dr. Chang. To see his colleague is very reassuring, because I know whomever I am scheduled to see will be a good choice for my children. Dr. Lin has such a gentle manner, is kind and pleasant with children, and really makes you feel comfortable both with terminology and her knowledge of the situation. I couldn't help but feel as though I were visiting with a friend, she is just that sweet. I appreciated feeling as though there were no rush to our visit, even allowing a few moments just to chat.
