Went here during peak summer expecting great greens, except majority of the holes had dead grass all over the fairways and even the so called "rough". On top of that I went with one of my female friends and she was harassed by the pro shop workers with them saying "oh I have to get a view of you walking out the door" and later on the marshal even came up to us telling her, "I love going up to female golfers and criticizing their golf game in front of their boyfriends". Uh hello? Where is the respect and etiquette? And just to add on top of that, we checked in 30 minutes before our tee time just to be called up 15 minutes early to the tee box. Well the reason we showed up early was to get practice putts and chips in, and while we were practicing, the pro shop workers make a comment to the people on the tee box before us saying "you guys shouldn't be doing breakfast balls" yet there was no one on que to tee off next. Honestly for what you pay for it is not worth the harassment by the workers and paying a "greens fee" when the grass is mowed like garbage", either lower the price or get better staff members. This golf course could be one of the better courses in Reno if treated right with better staff. read more

Sierra Sage was a great find when I was getting into golf three years ago. I had taken some lessons and was looking for a good practice area before my next lesson and feel like I hit the jackpot with SS. The practice chipping and putting area complete with bunkers as well as a short par three and natural grass driving range are the absolute best for working on your game. The prices for a round of golf are affordable and they keep the course in really good condition, especially considering the high desert climate. The Bar!!! Wow the prices are good, the food is good and the drinks are crazy cheap. Sierra Sage makes golfing affordable and their staff is some of the friendliest people. One word of caution for women; there isn't much of an advantage from the forward tees, but this is still a fun course to play read more

I absolutely love this golf course. My only complaint is sometimes it's too full, which isn't really a complaint is it?

Every year we drive to Hot August Nights and we golf two mornings in Reno. We were fortunate to be able to book a tee time just before 7:00am. For a senior riding is $49 per person. We cannot complain as conditions of the course were excellent. They may have some gravelly cart paths but the tee box, fairways and greens are in excellent condition! The grass was very lush. The course is doing a good job watering the holes! See you next year if not sooner! read more

Brought my family here and we had 1 new golfer. On the 4th tee got told to hurry up because "we were holding up the golfers behind us" so the new golfer didn't golf the rest of the front 9 felt bad about holding up people. Then on the back 9 we made her golf and then we see 2 groups in front of us with 8 players yes 8!!! I live 4 minutes from the golf coarse and I am an avid golfer I totally understand holding groups up but really??? Ruined a new golfer and she won't come back. What a hidden gem! $12 for a large bucket of balls at the driving range. The buckets are LARGE! There are also multiple dedicated areas for practicing putting and chipping. I am trying to improve at golf, and I'll be back here often to practice. I forgot to bring water, so I explored the food options, and they are plentiful. Even though it was only 9:30 am on a Saturday, the grill and the bar were staffed by friendly people who were ready to serve. There's a full bar, and the canned cold drink section has lots of hard seltzers, beers, and non-alcoholic sodas and sports drinks. The vibe was excellent! The parking lot was packed, so perhaps it's not that hidden of a gem. I had never heard of it before, though! I called Wildcreek to see if they had a driving range, and Don said that they don't at the moment, so I should go to Sierra Sage in Stead. Excellent recommendation! The pro shop dude at Sierra Sage explained to me about the Wildcreek extension plans and was really friendly. read more

Came here today to play some golf with my fiancé and friends. We had a great time! The T boxes are well groomed. The greens are clean and roll fast. It's affordable compared to other courses. It was $30!!! They also offer food and drinks from the Pub is you call in at the 9th tee and you pick it up at the 10th tee by the clubhouse. The have a good amount of options on their menu but we didn't end up getting anything since we ate before. Unfortunately, it is very flat and open so the downfall is windy weather. Another downfall is the cart paths are gravel. Other than that, great way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon! read more

The course recently changed management. It seems like they are gearing up for improvements with punching and dressing the greens and adding in some limitations on where you can drive your cart. The things I really like about this course: 1. Affordable price 2. Available tee times 3. Beautiful days 4. Great range and chipping facility 5. A few places you can cheat the course if you have a little extra distance 6. The delicious Bar and Grill 7. Affiliated with a youth golf program 8. Offer club fittings and sales The things I don't like: 1. Wind!!! 2. Lots of dead grass around greens where people have driven too close (they are now adding some ropes and posts to keep people off of the grass) 3. Slow play on a busy day. The 3,4,5 complex in particular is really backed up. Don't play here if you are impatient! 4. Sage brush!!! 5. Kind of a plain and undemanding course overall. 6. Well I've been going there since 1994 well run golf course and restaurant I posting on Yelp these days especially for businesses that don't try to gouge you like the Red Rock down the street 3 times in a row my special ahi salad got smaller and smaller and then price went up anyway back to sierra sage double cheeseburger and fries 15! Course is in good shape. Front desk guy was in a terrible mood and rude. Was on practice green waiting for on deck call and went straight to being up. After first hole Marshall told us we were behind and stalked us the entire round. We were on pace for 4 hours and he wouldn't leave us alone. Partner was told to pick up ball. Marshall harassed us for taking 5 minutes to use them bathroom at the turn. read more

This course is not too hard but not too easy as it is pretty open but if you hit into the sage brush you most likely will not find it. I played golf here last Sunday and it is probably one of my most favorite golf courses to play at. You definitely have to make a reservation for a tee time as early in advance as you can as it books up fast and they are always holding tournaments here. I really like how wide their fairways are. If your not the best golfer, like myself, it is nice to have a bigger target to aim for. The greens and overall course is well taken care of, and even heading into the winter months, there is not much patches. I would recommend this course to any golfer in the Reno area. This place is located just off Stead Blvd, so it is nice that it is isolated from traffic. You really feel like your not even in Reno anymore and it is nice how quiet and secluded it is. I will definitely be back for another round if the weather permits! read more

Ive golfed here probably 20 times over the last 2-3 years and one thing always holds true.....you never know what kind ofnweather youll get. With this big winter we have had, golfing recently is as follows. Driving range boxes are being re seeded, so quality if practice could be hit or miss. Fairways are a bit soggy so the 90 degree rule is most ideal. Look at that, water hazards are actually water!!!! Greens are generally slow in the morning then speed up. They have a great practice par 3 hole along with a putting green and chipping green. Prices drop like crazy after 1, and they offer a senior discount, not that i can use it, but good to know in 20 years. Good course with a challenge but fun for beginners as well. read more

I live right by this golf course I have played there once years ago. It is always nice in the summer time. It's green, clean, great view of the wetlands, desert, mountains and nature. The only flaw I'd say is that they have there loud speaker a little too loud. I mean when I'm home I can hear word for word while I'm outside lol. read more

This was my first time playing the course. I got a recommendation from a local golfer while playing a similar muni in the Reno area. My basic requirements were: Flat course, walkable and affordable. And off I went to Sierra Sage. The Starter was very accommodating, fairly easy to get a tee time for a walk-in single. The practice facilities were pristine--- it's always a premium to be honing your game on REAL grass. You'd better have you putting game on -----nothing will prepare you for the speed of these greens. There is no better feeling when putting on true greens--- having the ball go exactly where you intend it to go. I've made some spectacular putts, but I've also made a few head scratching misses. Tee boxes were well maintained---- side hill lies were kept to a minimum. Pace of play was consistent, thankfully no slowpokes out there. I shot an 81, could have been lower if not for a handful of careless approach shots and misjudging the greens. Some things I do want to point out: Generally speaking, I like to walk the course--- it helps my pacing and getting into a rhythm of the shots. I also believe It's the only way the game is supposed to be played. I'm not sure if it was intended or if it was the natural course lay out, but I think this course would benefit from a few more trees. Being from the SF Bay Area, I'd say us golfers from down there are a bit spoiled when it comes to the weather. So on the off chance that we happen to play in warmer temperatures, cooling off to prevent overheating is vital. Catching shade was a matter of survival, so for this round I had to take a cart. Speaking of carts, this was my first time ever to see those golfing boards used on the course. It was a trip! Looking at these guys ride around the course looked like surfers catching waves. Seemed like a lot of fun! I will be back to try one of these. Big kudos to the owners and staff of this golf course for making this an overall wonderful golfing experience. The people who succeed in this industry are the ones who take the time and effort to take care of the little details. Played 18 the other day with my aunt and uncle. The course is in great shape, the clubhouse well maintained, the staff friendly and carts well maintained. Since the Maz and staff took over several years ago, they have done a fantastic job in bringing the course up nicely. Previously, the public employee managed course was marginally acceptable and not at the top of my list. Cudos to a privately managed facility. I highly recommend the course for anyone wanting a nice golf experience at a fair price. FYI, I have lived in Reno and golfed on and off for over 40 years. read more

As someone who thinks golf is best enjoyed walking, it's nice to have a place where you aren't treated poorly for walking. We arrived for our 7:20 tee time and we were called to tee-off at 7:30, which was fine b/c I needed some practice time. The staff wasn't the friendliest but I don't get offended easily. The greens were fine and met my expectations. I found the course challenging and was glad that I could find my shanked balls in the sage most of the time. We had a great price and I felt that this was a great value for the money. We walked the course (18 holes) in about 4.5 hours. Yesterday I started my bachelor party at this golf course. We were going to have two groups because there were 7 of us but the golf course was really overbooked. We decided to see if we could play quickly to keep us together. We were still waiting on the group of 5 in front of us. When we talked to those guys they said they were waiting on the group in front of them. But the manager of the place came out and started claiming us for slowing the course down. The logic behind the manager was not to speed up the game and solve the problem of over booking but to break our group up, because. It literally would have made the course slow down even more if we separated into two groups because us 7 were moving faster than the group of 5 in front of us. I asked the guy why he was kicking us out and he said because the people behind of think we are slowing the game down. Long story short; he said it makes the place look better if he makes us leave. I will never being going back to that course. I've never seen such an exercise in the lack of logic and customer service. All they cared about was perception instead of fixing the reality that they overbooked or just had a slow course. Besides the carts are really old and noisy. We went to wildcreek golf course after we got our money back and the management and course were much nicer. Much more character to the course and the game marshal was much nicer and complimented us for being fast players. read more
