LOCATED IN HAYWARD, CA…read more A Great executive airport in the middle of the San Francisco Bay Area. Hayward has two runways at 3100 feet and 5000 feet approximately and caters to general aviation, otherwise known as privately owned aircraft. It is right between the three major airports in the bay area, Oakland, San Jose, and San Francisco. It is perfect for business travelers as it is very centrally located as well as vacationers to the Bay Area. Because it is smaller and does not host airline traffic, you have cheaper fuel and handling fees than at the other three major listed airports. Hayward is also great for flight training because you can train in all classes of airspace and IFR and VFR weather both as often. You are also within 15 minute flights of easy training areas away from the bay to practice maneuvers and landing at uncontrolled airports. The airport hosts 2 FBO's, one large with hangars and 5 fuel trucks, on site rental cars and business facilities, toilets, and one smaller fbo with fuel trucks and a fuel island. The larger FBO has a maintenance facility for twin engine turbines and jet aircraft which work on major charter companies such as Flexjet, Net jets to name a few. There are also a few very friendly maintenance facilities which cater to smaller aircraft, and one great maintenance shop that specializes in propeller and governor work only for all types of fixed wing aircraft including turbines. There are a couple charter companies at the airport and some aircraft that are on a charter certificate. If you need helicopters, this is the airport to find them. One helicopter company specializes in filmwork and executive charter and has an amazing new fleet. This is the airport that all of the news and radio helicopters are based and some of those companies do charter as well. The airport has gone through major reconstruction in the past few years and has built many brand new amazing hangars, some of which are for sale. The runways have been repaved recently and the city tie down ramp has also been repaved. With the build came better facilities around the airport so if you land here you can run to Target, Starbucks or many nice restaurants and hotels. There is even a golf course at the end of the runway so if you have some time, I have heard it is a pretty decent course. Hayward is a great airport so if you are looking to fly in to SFO SJC or OAK and want a more personal experience, or even just want to save some money, it is highly recommended!

Free drinks included coffee, tea, and soda and there was a carafe of water and of lemonade and one of cranberry juice. Free alcoholic drinks consisted of red and white wine. The DOWN SIDE was that less than half of the power outlets worked and some of those that did work the plugs were so worn out that my power plug literally fell out of the outlet. My first flight was delayed by two hours which meant I'd miss my connecting flight to Oakland. Note to self. Always fly direct if possible. What happened next just blew me away and made me a Southwest customer for life. * At the Customer Service station in Vegas, the kind Southwest lady booked me on the next direct flight to Oakland at no additional charge. * My baggage didn't make the direct flight to Oakland but the super nice Customer Service lady at Oakland Airport (shout out to Jamina) processed my baggage report and made sure I was alerted when my bag arrived on the next flight which was in about an hour. * Southwest gave me a $150 credit for my troubles. * Southwest refunded my $35 baggage charge. Matt says if you are traveling, be sure to check out Southwest. Their professional attention to the customer is superior to any other airline I've flown with.

Checking a bag was a breeze in the priority lane, and the regular line wasn't super long, but there were people even at that hour. Boarding was also smooth with the numbered zones and assigned seating. The Oakland gate areas are super small thought with a limited amount of seating. I'd imagine on a busy travel day, working your way to your gate could be an issue. It's probably the least appealing gate area of any Southwest terminal I've been in. Luckily, I wasn't there long.

oh no, what could improve? idk, everything?…read more bad attitudes. bad vibes. so unhelpful, rude, slow and non-sensical. absolutely no customer service skills between any of them. first the first grey haired lady at the conveyer belt was condescending and just kept repeating "everything in a bin" to any question. i thought maybe she was having a bad day but then a coworker walked by and she was nice to him. so she's capable of it just not to travelers i guess. then they patted down almost every single person. i was sent back through for my shoes and again the lady was rude. my boyfriend said his pat down was weird. then one of my bags got deferred into the needing deeper search and they helped one person out of a pile up of 5 bags needing to be searched and then as soon as they gave their bag back, the worker walked away to do something else. i asked the people who do the pat downs if someone was going to check them and the girl replied someone will but she can't. ok then can you get someone who can? there was one man walking around collecting bins and eventually he came over and check another one. then touches my bag and looks at me, i nod that it's mine, and he walks away to do more bins another guy came up fairly quickly and then didn't even check the bag. the line was not long and it took about 30 minutes to get cleared. genuinely infuriating. people have flights to catch? they had one lane open, they couldn't prioritize getting customers cleared? we were just congregating busying the place up

Harry was my driver, and called me to confirm the time and pick up location the day of our night out. We went out on a busy St. Patrick's Day evening and needed a ride from SF back to Walnut Creek for a large group. Rather than trying to get a cab in the middle of the night, find a shuttle service (this one in particular is the best in my opinion) and get your crew home for the same price as a cab or cheaper (with more people), but with better service and better transportation options. Our driver was on time, communicated where he would be very well, and struck up a great conversation on the way back. Being the ditzy case I can sometimes be, I left my phone in the van and proceeded to frantically look for it in the morning. Bright and early, a cheerful driver's son calls me on a secondary number i had provided to confirm that my phone had been left in the van and that I could pick it up later at a mutually convenient time. Harry promptly called me and arranged a convenient pick up time near the Oakland airport. Throughout the morning, he updated me on when he'd be at the meeting point. With a smile he gave me my phone, and refused to take an additional tip for the phone. He definitely will earn my repeat business not only for nights out with the crew, but for all of my business and personal travel trips to and from OAK, SFO, and SJC. Thank you!!! Highly recommended.

I gave them a call, as instructed, 10 minutes in advance of my arrival at the Bart station. They said they would be right out and to wait outside the station. They left me waiting on the streets of Oakland for 20 minutes when I decided to call and check on the status. They said they hadn't even left yet! And they didn't bother to call me to let me know that in spite of them having my number. They when I arrived via my own transportation, and I asked what was up, they got mad at me because I should have understood a situation in the ramp that they didn't tell me about. Then their staff started to threaten me after I asked how long it would take to pick up the phone and call me when they knew the ramp situation, which was immediately after my initial call. I talked to the manager, Josh, and he just said they is nothing he can do. The customer service is terrible, their staff threatens clients and they did even bother to offer to pay for the taxi I had to take or waive ramp fees as an apology. They seem to think this is business as usual. At one point, the line tech said I should just go to Kaiser. Never, ever again...

I did have a great time visiting KSQL San Carlos Airport to have lunch and visit the Hiller Aviation Museum nearby. You have to be on your A-game coming into KSQL. It sits right under SFO's class bravo and approach to 28 runways. Be familiar with landmarks and noise abatement procedures. We landed and parked at transient parking which was close-by the diner. There are plenty of transient parking for visiting aircrafts. Hiller Aviation Museum is on the other side of the runway but it is just a short walk around.
