In fact, I would strongly encourage anyone looking for a pool contractor to look elsewhere and save yourself a lot of stress. There were numerous failures, delays, problems, and empty promises. When I complained, Larry and Steven both treated me like I was over reacting and I received multiple assurances (in writing) that my project would be completed on time and that my project was a priority. It took 6 months instead of 2 to complete the pool - some of the later delays were due to winter weather however the project should have been finished long before winter weather set in. I signed the contract on Aug 15, 2014. Construction began Sept 9, 2014 and I was told the pool would be finished by the end of October. I heated and used the spa on January 26 but the cleaning system was not working properly until March 13, 2015. They initially framed the pool in the wrong location. They cut an electrical line in two places when digging for the plumbing lines. Note: destruction of landscaping and any utility line damage is the responsibility of the homeowner. They ordered and installed the wrong tile / stone on the spa TWICE despite me meeting with Larry at the tile store to pick out the tile and following up with an email listing (in detail) the choices. They rarely worked more than one day a week and provided no explanation for the delays. I have a 2-3 acre yard and they drove all over it, leaving deep ruts even though I had asked they only enter on the north side of the property. They completed the plaster for the pool in the dead of winter and then informed me that I had to fill the pool and brush the plaster for at least a week while it cured (in freezing temps). They emptied the spa after it was filled and left the hose on filling it (without calling to explain why or advise that the water was running at my house while I was at work). Larry is rarely on site for more than a few hours when his crew is on site and was never here when the outside contractors came (i.e. gunite and concrete decking) even though Steven assured me he would be there. They provided estimates for the electrician and plumber to run propane to the heater during the contract negotiation, then Larry was giving me estimates that were twice those amounts when it came time to hire them. They didn't give me adequate information in order to hire a qualified electrician. They failed to install an autofill line that was included in my contract. They installed a Paramount in-floor cleaning system which would not work properly - after multiple complaints and my withholding of the final retainer (10%), they threatened to put a lien on my property. Paramount only sells through authorized dealers and Gunite Pools was not an authorized installer or seller. They were buying them from another pool company and finally that pool company owner had to come out and explain to Larry how the installation should be fixed. Some of the cleaning heads had not even been installed and most of the remainder had been installed with the wrong size orifice. I had asked about the pressure gauge on the top of the cleaning system and Larry actually told me that it served no purpose other than pressure testing during installation - while, in fact, this pressure gauge must be pressuring up to 18 or 20 for the cleaning system to work effectively. They have no idea how to operate or program the Easy Touch Automation System and it kept shutting off at odd times in very cold temperatures and they couldn't explain why. I was finally able to troubleshoot it myself with the user manual. They turned on the pool cleaning system without installing the basket to catch debris and this sucked leaves and debris into the plumbing lines and then had the audacity to imply that it was my fault that the plumbing lines had to be cleaned to remove leaves. When they came out to trouble shoot the cleaning system not operating properly, (this is when they had to clean the leaves out of the lines) they left the union connectors loose in two places between the equipment and the water was leaking. In the end - I do have a working pool but I spent a lot of time and frustration getting them to correct things that were not working or were done wrong. There are several cosmetic issues that I finally quit complaining about. Bottom line, they were very defensive about all of the mistakes and it sometimes required me making multiple complaints before the issue was corrected. Their excuse was that every pool contractor fails to meet deadlines and runs into these issues. I'll let you judge for yourself if you think this number of errors and missteps is acceptable.

They used an incorrect mixture that unfortunately ruined the surface and will inevitably cause cracks throughout the pool. This information was brought to Jamie's attention while it was under warranty and he agreed to make it right. Then he started playing the blame game. It was the concrete workers fault (that he hired). It was the new saltwater filter that caused it etc. All laughable excuses. Now Jamie is not returning calls and messages after agreeing to resurface the pool under the contracted warranty. My next steps are legal action against JBR pools. Do not hire this company under any circumstances if you want a pool job done right!

They came out once to address the issue by putting on wax and buffing it out which seemed to help until the sun shined on it and we could clearly see all the imperfections were still there. Dave then came out after we said the imperfections were still there and he admitted that the problem is the mold they used to make the pool. He said the molds need to be fixed and that they have just been too busy to fix them. We asked him if we had bought a pool from somewhere else if it would have the same imperfections and his response was probably not. He offered to sand the fiberglass but admitted it would not remove all the imperfections and would only shorten the life of the pool. We then asked for a percentage of money back due to the poor quality of the pool finish and he refused and accused us of trying to screw him even though I'm the one that paid 40k for a pool that looks like it has cracks in it when the sun light hits it. The pictures speak for themselves, they know they are putting out a flawed product and they don't care. Every pool they make using the flawed molds will look the same way. Spend your money somewhere else where they can act professional and stand behind the quality of their product because Dave and Lucas can't.

I had already done some research and talk to some people, but Mark walked me through all the different options to fix the issues I was facing, and why some fixes can be better than others. I really felt confident, knowing not only how to use my own pool but the best options to repair. They also offer pool cleaning at the same rate as our current pool guy, but I will definitely be making the switch to them, knowing that I have an experienced company behind my cleaner if I ever need anything!

I'm a lifelong swimmer, so I wasn't looking for a typical backyard pool. I wanted a large custom gunite / plaster pool with a full 25-yard lap lane, a shallow end, and enough space for the family to enjoy it too. Several neighbors had used Vista for fiberglass pools and had great experiences, so I reached out. Scott understood what I was trying to build right away. He put together a quote and an initial design, and after some back-and-forth, we had a plan that looked fantastic. We also walked through it at WalkYourPlans, which helped us make a few final adjustments before construction started. Once they got moving, they REALLY got moving. Within about a week, we had an enormous hole in the yard, and from there the work was nearly nonstop. Anyone who's dealt with contractors knows how unusual that is. Crews showed up, work got done, and the project kept progressing. I honestly couldn't believe how quickly and smoothly everything moved. We also made a significant change to the shallow end during the project, and they were able to accommodate it without throwing the entire schedule off. The quality of the work was excellent across the board. A friend with metalworking experience looked over the rebar and was very impressed. The gunite and plaster turned out beautifully. The tile crew nailed the lap-lane markings exactly the way I wanted them. My only small regret is that we didn't choose darker marker tiles on the stairs, but that's a design choice on our end, not a problem with the workmanship. Vista also selected a full Hayward equipment setup for us, including filtration, lighting, heating and cooling, automation, and saltwater chlorination. Everything has worked together very well. We started with the normal new-plaster process and switched over to saltwater afterward. One thing I'd tell anyone considering a large gunite / plaster pool is to take the startup and maintenance seriously. The bigger the pool, the more water chemistry and cleaning you're dealing with. During the first month, daily brushing is essential. Honestly, twice a day is even better if you can manage it. Keeping dirt and debris off the new plaster takes effort, and it's definitely a workout. Vista will get you started and answer questions, but after the handoff, maintaining the water becomes your responsibility. Buy a good test kit and the proper cleaning tools before the pool is finished. If you enjoy learning how everything works, you'll probably have fun with it. If not, budget for professional pool service. For me, this pool has genuinely been life-changing. I knew I'd enjoy having one, but I didn't realize how much it would mean to have a lap lane available whenever I wanted it. It turns out this was basically a lifelong dream I hadn't fully recognized until it was finished. Scott and JJ delivered something truly special for us. The pool looks amazing, works beautifully, and has completely changed how we use our home. I'd hire Vista Pools again without hesitation.
