Originally stopped by to get some old Birkenstocks rebuilt. Turn around was scheduled for one week but the shoemaker had an issue and they would be later. I was ok with them being shipped to me as I lad to leave before they'd be ready. The shoemaker, and the shop went overboard to get them ready before I left. The downside was that when I went back y wife wound up buying two pairs of shoes, including a Blundstone model that I'd never heard of after wearing them for over thirty years. Terrible customer service! I have made a lot of purchases here and the one time I need to do an exchange they tell me to just come on in and will take care of it. So I come in wanting to exchange and also found something else I wanted to buy. The blonde sales lady info informs me I have to come back the next day to do that. I ask to talk to her and she tells me she has issues going on. They are very unprofessional and not a good business to buy from. This store use to be great not sure what happened. Great locally owned shop. I have a hard to fit food and need comfortable shoes due to injury and Signature Shoes always have something that works. Great selection of Birkenstocks and other comfort shoes. They happily pulled tons of styles and sizes for me to try. Yes, prices are on the high side, but it's because they only cary quality shoes. You get what you pay for. They also carry Hafflinger wool clogs/slippers, they are hard to find and make terrific house shoes especially on wooden floors. The only real down side is they don't have extended hours due to being a mom and pop shop. I'll give them a pass on that for being locally owned. read more

GO here before buying Birkenstock's from a bigger chain store! There are so many more styles available and you might as well make sure they're the exact ones you want since these shoes last forever! I ended up loving the oiled leather ones and they even brought out a few so I could pick the exact shade of leather that I wanted. They helped me figure out which styles fit my foot the best. I was looking for these sandals that are virtually impossible to find off the internet. Birkenstock Yara sandals. I walked in on a Wednesday evening and lo and behold...they have them AND in my size! I could have cried tears of joy! I also picked up some sale sneakers by Keen that I really enjoyed the style of. I wasn't looking for them but I picked them up too! I have a special love in my heart for Birkenstocks..... they are the only sandals I can wear since I have freakishly high arches and really long monkey toes. I had my last pair for 16 years and they were falling apart....My mother took me here to get another pair as long as I agreed to throw out the pair that was falling apart. They have many different styles and colors. I spent over an hour trying on different shoes and different styles. I found two that I loved so those are the two I got. The sales woman was great and had the patience of a saint dealing with me for so long. I got my shoes chose which one I was going to wear out....(I had snuck my old pair into my purse....I was having separation anxiety ) the woman who had heard my mothers deal of buying me sandals but I had to throw away my old ancient ones that could not be resoled or fixed lol.....held out the trash can... it made me laugh lol and we did a quick ceremony declaring they were loved but dead and never forgotten lol... A couple months later I show back up becuase my apartment had gotten really hot.... like the bowels of Hades hot.... and as a result the soles shrank.... I walked in and usually there is a $30 resoling fee... however she did it this one time for free. I explained that now I have an air conditioner so this will never happen again and she agreed that was a deal lol. word of caution..... if the berks get too hot the soles will shrink. If you do not take care of the cork.... it will crack and be ruined. I put on the cork conditioner when ever the slight sheen starts to fade. I need to take a pair in and get re-soled again due to the way I walk I tend to wear the corners down due to my ankle bones not sitting correctly. The turn around time is fairly quick and they call you when the shoes are ready to come back home. Because leather stretches they will get loose. I just take them back in and they punch another hole in the straps and all is good. I know leather and eventually it will stop stretching.... lol They have ones that look like regular sandals, clogs and the original styles as well. They are comfy and I love them. They unfortunately do not really wide sizes so my mother was not able to find something she could wear traveling in Europe..... however she did find a pair she might go back for that will require some breaking in and stretching ..... please check this place out it is great!!! read more

Signature shoes totally knocked my socks off. We spent all day trying to find orthopedic inserts based on a doctor's reco. The places she recommended (the usual suspects (shoe mill, good foot, if the shoe fits)) were more than disappointing. The imitators had expensive, ineffective products and really poor selection. We spent 7 hours total circling town feeling completely defeated. Finally we found a review to say that the Birkenstock inserts are the best by far... After a touch of research we found that Signature carried them, but we are in NE, and even though they were open, we only had minutes to cross town and meet them. When I called, the woman helping us said she would stay open a bit extra to give us a hand as we were desperate at this point. I felt like such a jerk for dragging out her work day on a Sunday, but she built a pair of loyal fans. Not only did they have exactly what we needed, but they had several other products the others didn't have. She knew all about them, and shared the info without choking it down our necks or ripping the lady's shoes off and making her stand on dirty uncleaned foot doodads acting like fake doctors. To top it off the selection of footwear was far greater than the others and of better quality from what I could see. All in all, I hope this place has a long future. Went into this place this afternoon around 3pm to look at Birkenstocks and likely buy a pair. There were two late teen/early twenty folks working in the front and a gal older than that working in the back. I was the only customer - was in there about 15 minutes. No one asked me if they could help me or find a size for me. I looked at Birkenstocks on one area of the store, had to pry answers out of them re: the products, and they brought the shoes to me, masked and dropped them off as far away from me as possible. Didn't ask how they fit or if they could help further. I then took a look around the rest of the store and, lo and behold, there was a whole other - larger - section of Birkenstocks on the other side of the small store. I would have expected them to point me that way or even take me there and show me, ask me how they could assist so they could make a sale or at least provide good customer service. I chose a pair and asked if they have them in my size. Answer was no. Had to ask if they could order them. Answer was no. No suggestions on how to find them or they're sorry they couldn't help. Gal in the back was on the phone most of the time and made no eye contact. After the young guy and gal answered a question, they went back to their station at the cash register. I did ultimately buy a pair of sandals despite the poor customer service. Please provide your salespeople with customer service training. I have worked in retail at a department store, and training/expectations are sorely needed at this store. Really wanted to support a small local shop, but I won't return. read more

This store has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. There were three salespeople milling around in the store when I got there, and eventually one came over to help me. I had a hard time finding the right fit, but had to get the attention of someone over and over again to help me out. I left disappointed, and didn't get any shoes at all. I had the best experience here today! I wanted a pair of Birkenstocks but hadn't worn them in many years. The person there knew all about all the changes and answered all my questions. She also told me that they could repair my old Birkenstocks and talked me through my decision on purchasing vs repairing vs both. I was able to try on as many as I wanted and they even showed me a preview of Birkenstocks that are coming next year! I left without purchasing because I wanted to go home and look at my old Birks to see if I wanted to repair them or not. This is the BEST place in Portland to buy Birkenstocks! read more

I wish I could give it less than 1 star. I have never experienced worse customer service in my life and I will make sure to never recommend this "establishment" to anyone I care about. I went to their new location to pick up a pair of shoes i had dropped off OVER A YEAR AGO to be repaired. They called me while I was on a trip to tell me my shoes were ready, a whole year later. When I went into the store I was with my father, who sat down on the bench while i stood in line waiting for someone to approach me and ask if I needed help. I spent several minutes in line while at least four salesmen had made eye contact with me and said nothing. It wasn't until my father came up and stood next to me that a woman IMMEDIATELY asked if HE needed help. He backed away and I went up to the counter since it was about my shoes and he had no reason to talk to the saleswoman. She came out with my shoes and told me their repair man had said there was nothing to be done. I didn't get an apology for making me wait for a year and she only repeated the same "it's wear and tear and we don't cover that" over and over and over until i exclaimed I would never come back there. This was an ongoing argument until my dad told me we should go since there was nothing to be done. All in all, if you want to buy shoes, just go to Nordstroms. read more
