Today I decided to figure out what size/width I needed before my son's baseball game (which he won btw). So in a nutshell my needs have gone from stabilizing to neutral. Back when I got my last pair I was advised that the stabilizing was the way to go. Possibly because I was approximately 20 lbs heavier? Now I was told that I just needed the neutral shoe. That was good to know. I told Celia that I only had 30 minutes and she was able to fit all her info/advice in. I came in today to replace a pair of shoes I purchased a couple days ago. The first time, the customer service was amazing. The insoles just didn't feel right when I got home, which is why I was returning them. But I was greeted by Ben today who was fabulous. Even though it was my second time back, he was patient and kind and took the time to find me a different shoe better than the first for me!! I had originally gone back in to replace the shoe I got, not be able to find a better one! He allowed me to try on several more shoes, until I found one I liked better than the first! I also joked with him, because he was the only customer service person I have ever bought shoes from, who unlaced the laces when they took them out of the box to give me to try on. I would recommend this business to anyone. I'm just someone looking to do a little more running at the gym, nothing serious. But I still feel like I was given world class service. I really was looking forward to shopping here. I read all the reviews and wanted a similar experience. I can buy any shoe offered here on Amazon or Zappos for the same or less, but I want a knowledge sales person who could educate me on some shoes and find out what fits me best. I'm not new to running but I'm new to buying more expensive shoes like this and wanted some help and advice. The other reviews seemed like you would be helped from start to finish, observed, offered suggestion and such. Honestly my experience was no better than shopping at Famous Footwear. I was only asked a few questions, I had to volunteer most info, I felt like I was being a bother, I was presented with 3 shoes and was given a brief description, I asked questions about other shoes but was never presented with them. I was told I could walk outside on the sidewalk. Was never told I could run or any advice or anything. Was also told there weren't any other color choices. I really needed shoes so I bought em. While I was leaving 2 other people were being helped by sales people and they seemed to be getting the experience and service the reviews said. Maybe I didn't use the right language or wear the right clothes to be taken seriously. Got home went to try them on and looked at bottom and they were dirty, even had a dead leaf in them and the body of the shoe looked worn on one part. I called store was told they allow people to run in them, which I wasn't given that option, And sometimes people run further then the sidewalk and they get worn and I could bring them back, he said he would put a pair aside for me to exchange...then asked what color I wanted them in, they had several options. So I had to drive back down to store on Friday afternoon and I ended up just bringing then back. not only couldn't the sales person be bothered to give good service they couldn't even be bothered to give me a color option. Not sure what I did wrong or didn't do right to be treated like other customers. As I get more into this sport I wanted a place I could go locally for advice on gear and such. i was referred to Portland Running Store by my foot doctor. I have bunions on both feet with the left being the worst. I went into the store on January 29th. I had a very good salesman who showed me several shoes that were extra wide. After trying on the Brooks the salesman and I agreed they would be the best fit for me. I walk 2.7 miles at least 6 days a week. I only use the Brooks for that time. at about the 3 month mark the top of my right shoe started to fray. the store is several miles from me and I didn't get to the store until June 23. my this time it is very bad. when I got there the sales associate just looked at me while I was explaining the problem and was giving me a large condescending smile. I asked about why she was giving me the fake smile and she just said the shoes are only able to be returned in 30 days. There was no sense understandin at all. So I just left. I will never go back there and I will inform my foot doctor of this and encourage him to not recommend in the future. The salesperson I had on June 23rd was a disgrace to the company. read more

My daughter wanted to buy a new pair of athletic shoes and a friend recommended The Portland Running Company on Nimbus In Beaverton. My friend said they were knowledgeable and would help fit her with the proper shoe for her needs. I decided to take her there because Dick's was just too busy since it was a Saturday. We walked into Portland Running Co. and it looked promising, because we were one of two customers in the store. That feeling didn't last long. A staff member came over to us and just stared at us, didn't greet us or ask what she was looking for. She finally decided on a shoe and the employee could barely get out the words "what size?" He came back and dropped them on the floor next to her without a word. She proceeded to try on the shoes during which the sales person said nothing and did nothing, except stare. She needed to go up a half size, however due to the horrible customer service we just wanted to get out of the store. They could've had a sale if the employee behind the desk had helped us, he made a point of telling us goodbye and have a nice day, which earned this one star rating instead of no stars. Just purchased my second pair of shoes! I wanted to wait to write my review until after having more experience in shopping with PRC. Definitely a customer service oriented company. They're a small store that knows their best asset to attracting and retaining customers is their attention to detail and their earnest approach to customer service. I highly recommend you visit in person first to determine your shoe size and fit. When I went in, I spent as much time as I needed to find the perfect shoe. I was assisted by two different store employees. The first employee, Ahmed, greeted me, as soon as I entered the store, with a smile and handshake. He helped me until I started talking about trail shoes, at which point he handed me off to Jordan, who specializes in trail running. Both employees treated me with respect and listened to my feedback. They watched me run up and down the sidewalk in front of the store to determine my running stride. And then helped me find the best shoe for my stride. I purchased my first pair of shoes that same day! Several weeks later, today, I received my second pair of shoes from their online store. Their website is easy to navigate and as a returning customer, there were some nice incentives and offers. When purchasing my second pair of shoes, I was also able to pick out a PRC branded t-shirt! Way cool. Must admit that their were some kinks to their online shopping experience. But after speaking directly with one of the co-owners, Dave, I was able to voice my concerns and complaints. That's something you can't do with a big company! Support local. Support a company that cares. Support, Portland Running Company. COVID has kept me away from my fitness club. I decided to start jogging. I had no idea what goes into picking out a pair of running shoes. Decided to go to Portland running company for the first time ever. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and welcomed. I was properly questioned to my wants in a running shoe. I was educated in what makes a great shoe. Then came the try on time. I tried on four pair. Walked around the store and was allowed to jog right outside. The employee who helped me was very informative and was in no hurry. I ended up picking the first pair he thought would be best for me. From the moment we walked in, John was amazing. He had so much knowledge and patience with us. He took my husband outside to watch him run. From his obvious level of experience, he was able to discern what some of hubby's issues have been while running. Then he kept taking hubby back outside to have him try running in different shoes. Husband really appreciated getting a better feel than just walking around the padded store. I wasn't ready to spend so much money on a pair of walking shoes, but John tried his best to find shoes I'd like from the sale shoes. I just went in to the Nimbus store today to finally invest in a quality pair of shoes after running in the same pair I picked at random from the sales rack a year and a half ago. And I could tell the difference right away! Adam was super friendly and patient while I tried on about a dozen pairs with varying levels of cushion and support until we found the perfect fit. He gave me feedback about my gait, and getting to 'test drive' each pair on the sidewalk outside was super helpful too! In the end, I found a pair that felt super comfy but I wasn't crazy about the color options they had in store, so Adam offered to order a pair for me and have it delivered to my home. It was a super positive and easy going experience, especially since I'm somewhat new to running, and the rest of the staff seemed really kind and professional too! It didn't matter that I wasn't a hard core runner and that I focus on walking as my main source of exercise these days. Not only is the customer service excellent they are also very knowledgeable when it comes to anything running, walking, cross country, track and trail. Be prepared to workout here if you are looking for shoes. Wear your work out clothes and bring your old shoes with you. They will look at the wear of the shoe and watch how you run so they can best help find the perfect shoe for you. I thought they would try to push the more expensive shoe on us, but they were never pushy. They just want to make sure that you are happy with your purchase. I recommend checking this place out. Next time I walk in to a running store and an 18 year old kid gives me attitude or "running advice" I am going to have to cut him! I went in to this store looking for a zip pocket tank that would hold my GU while I run a marathon in a few weeks. I was there for a running shirt not for some douche bag's opinion on how "regular runners" carry water bottles mixed with GU instead of carrying the GU in their shirt. I don't know about you but when you are running 26.2 of ass kicking miles, the last thing you want to do is carry an extra bottle of anything to weigh you down! In fact, by mile 20 or so, even the hair on your head feels like its weighing you down. Last time I checked people hydrated at fuel stations along the course not from lugging around a giant bottle of water mixed with GU! Annoyed by his advice, and his assumption that I was not a "regular runner," I continued searching through the store and found just what he told me they didn't carry: A tank with a zip pocket! I purchased it and held it up triumphantly as I walked out. I don't get why every time I go to a running store in Portland I am greeted with a pretentious hand or a giant ego. Perhaps if I was a 7 foot Kenyan I could pass for a "regular runner" and get the respect that I deserve....But alas, I am only five feet tall. read more

I love the Portland Running Company. So why the one star review? I normally patronize the Portland store. The first two experiences I had there, I was treated to excellent customer service. I was greeted promptly as I came in the store, the clerk took time to listen to my running needs, offered many suggestions, fitted me with two different paris, and even watched me run outside in two pairs to see which worked best. That customer service brought me back repeatedly. Until today. Because of a busy summer travel schedule. I could only go to the Beaverton store. On the outside, three times the size of the Portland store, I was excited to see what they could offer this time. Every once in a while, the store offers sales and discounts, which is why I went into today. I entered the store, which was moderately crowded. No one greeted me, or even acknowledged that I had entered the store. But they were busy, so I didn't mind that. A small line at the registers, and two or three customers looking at shoes or getting fitted. I went over to look at the shoes on the wall, and several boxes of shoes on wire shelves. Five minutes in, no one still to greet me or acknowledge that I was there. Now, you might think that all associates were busy. I spotted one sitting on the benches alone. Another worker was busy stocking running gear on the other side of the store. During my entire wait in the store, they both continued sitting or stocking. At one point in my wait, I simply stood and stared, hoping to get someone's attention. But by then I was getting angry. I know. I am an adult. I should have gone over to the woman stocking gear or the other clerk just sitting down and asked for help. But, is this the customer service that the Beaverton branch of the Portland Running Company aspires to? Lesson learned. I'm not returning to this store. If I am in Portland, I may decide to head over to the other store, where I am assured to be treated like a valued customer. At the end of the day, it all comes down to customer service.... or in this case, a serious lack of it. read more

This place is awesome! Knowing little about running, I walked in expecting to ask which types of Nikes to buy and then take 'em and "run". Instead, John (super-helpful!) sat down and spent 1+ hour with me examining my running style, explaining what kind of shoe would be best for me, and trying all kinds of shoes on (I'm the guy who literally test drove 20+ cars before buying my most recent vehicle). Based on the fact that I mildly overpronate (new word for me!), he recommended the Brooks Adrenaline 13 GTS. He did go through some other similar shoes with me, and I even asked if I could try some shoes with less support just to see how they felt (he said he wouldn't recommend them, but he had no problem with me trying them--so I did)...but sure enough, after trying ~10 pairs of shoes, I realized John had nailed it on the first try. The Adrenaline was PERFECT. John was never pushy--just offered sound advice, both about the shoes and running in general. The store itself was well-laid out, felt very clean and modern. The prices were very competitive with other running stores and even online outlets. Also cool: there was a group of 30+ runners, who apparently show up to the store at 6pm every Monday to run (!!). Very cool to see something more than just a shoe store--it's a running community. 5/5 stars, will definitely be back. Proud owner of my new Adrenalines, and hopefully soon-to-be finisher of my first half-marathon. Went here while home for the holidays to get some good running shoes. The staff was ultra helpful. They actually take the time to watch you run and recommend shoes based on your stride and how your foot lands. The shoes cost me $100 but they will hopefully be worth it. I had a bad experience running on cheap shoes, and the people at Portland Running Co were very helpful and got me excited to start running again! I walked into the Portland Running Company not entirely sure whether I needed a shoe designed for stability, neutral, cushioned or what. I was hoping not to be assisted by some high school kid who couldn't relate to my current station in running. I figured, 'hey, I'm likely going to spend a few extra dollars here...hopefully I get the expert advice in exchange'. The guy who helped me was an experienced runner who took the proper time necessary to figure out what type of shoe I needed (stability) as he observed me running in each prospective shoe. I like to buy local...and to me Nike is local. This time, though, it became apparant that a different brand was the better shoe for me...so my local buy was instead The Portland Running Company. I'm very pleased with them...and am glad to find out that my kids will also benefit with their 10% off for students. Portland Running Company will help you find the right shoes for you. While any of their trained staff can help you select your running shoes, my favorites there are Brent and Jim. They both have coached and they find the shoes for you based on how you run, not how people with perfect form run! PRC hosts free group runs from their Beaverton location Mondays and Wednesdays. They start at 6p in the winter and 6:15p in the summer. The runs are 3-7 miles and paces range from 11 minute miles to 6:30 minute miles. There are usually 20-30 people at the Monday run and dogs and strollers are both welcome. PRC has at least two great sales and they have an area where they put close-out shoes so you can find some good deals almost all the time. Great selection of spikes for cross-country and track for high school students, too. Expect to pay $75-$135 at PRC for running shoes but when they have sales you may find shoes that work for you for as little as $40-$50! It's right next to the Greenway Trail that connects Tigard and Beaverton, and they will watch your keys for you while you run and let you use their bathroom. read more

Really Love this place! I've really got into some serious regular running this year. I used to only run fun 5k runs that ended with beer! Now, I run 5-10 miles 3 times a week! So, my shoes have to be more than just fashionable! They have to be functional!!!! Say what? What woman says that? I mostly run with the shelter dogs at the Oregon Humane Society! Which means we go off road and get filthy! We go everywhere! We run through the river and all other terrain! The dogs also step on me and muck up my shoes! So, I have to have durable kicks! My fave shoes this year were my Brooks!! They spent over 5 months with me and my shelter buddy, a pittie named Onyx! They held up great! They look totally thrashed now! I went into PRC one day and the nice associate helped me pick them out! Apparently the way I run requires a sturdy shoe with ankle support! Which means a trail shoe! My feet loved my Brooks! Sadly, My Brooks are so ugly now that I had to go in and buy a new love! My new Asics are super attractive and so far pretty comfy! Still too pretty to take out with the dogs! Maybe in a few weeks I'll let them get a little dirty! A major kudos selling point for PRC are their organized group runs! They're all week long! The fellow runners are super friendly and encouraging! Runners of all paces participate! It's a great community! The only tip of improvement would be for PRC to carry more affordable running gear! They carry very few Nike shoes, but mostly Nike gear! Nike is Pricey! They should have more Under Armour or something! I get my running clothes from Costco when I can! When I asked for a good place to check my gait and pick out the proper running shoes, this company came up few times so decided to drop by. I called and requested one particular Brooks shoes called Adrenaline GTS 15 with arch support and pronation, as I assumed I had bad gait due to inner side of ball being worn down, but I was told I don't have pronation issue and I can get a Ghost 8 instead. I spent $40 more than expected as it wasn't on sale and not the color I wanted, and I could technically pay the same price and get the one I wanted online directly from Brooks, but ultimately decided it had the comfort and support and that's what counted the most on the trail. Plus, the customer service was superb so I did not wish to walk out empty handed! :) My friends were very patient while I tried on all the shows, about five pairs total. I'm happy I was able to try out Mizuno, Saucony, Nike, and Brooks and find the best fit for my feet. I support small business as an ethos and had a good experience getting shoes at Portland Running Company in Portland many years ago. I also love that they have a woman co-owner who has a great reputation for local races. So, I went in to the Beaverton location this summer, having foot pain training for Hood to Coast on shoes my husband had just bought elsewhere and wanting to get fitted. The salesperson who helped me seemed to ignore every request I made to get fitted again. I walked in and said I wanted to be fitted. I brought old shoes, per the website. He asked if I wanted to recycle them (I guess?). I mentioned that I had been fitted before, but had to two pregnancies and wanted to see what changed. What brand do you like? (Asics?) What size? He brought me a few options and again, I wondered aloud if I should get fitted? Shrug. How do these feel? The whole time, he was very nice - but I just figured maybe they did not do fittings anymore but had not changed the website. I thought about the experience, how disappointing it was, and how I spent a lot of money anyway, because I needed new shoes and wanted to support a small business. I thought about why I did not more directly ask (again, I guess) if I could be fitted. Finally, I wrote an email via the website to flag that they either need to change the website or perhaps retrain staff in Beaverton? I did not ask for anything. But, no one ever replied. I found that to be the greatest disappointment. For me, the worst part is that I had now bought two pairs of Asics that were not doing the trick (the new ones were fine for a couple of weeks, so too late to return them when my foot started to hurt with those...), but I continued to run through pain - including Hood to Coast - because I could not spare another $100 plus on shoes. I ended up with a major foot injury due to inadequate shoe support - something a fitting might have prevented - and have had pain with every step for about 10 weeks now. So, I hate to write a bad review, but the lack of response and the actual repercussions from bad service have me here. I hope that Portland Running Company sees this and choose to retrain staff, versus ignoring my original email. Such a longstanding local business should continue to thrive, and that means being responsive when people have a bad experience and write a nice email alerting them to the issue. read more
