A treatment (Invisalign) was pushed on me without proper informed consent and from the beginning had issues and caused discomfort but was allowed to continue for months till it caused so much pain it had to be paused. After weeks of delay, I am being told the treatment will take months longer than anticipated, and had I been given all the pertinent information regarding the treatment before I was rushed to pay thousands of dollars for it, I would have weighted the risks and benefits and not pursued it. Some of the information withheld, or outright misinformation given, included major lifestyle changes that have caused major disruptions in nutritional health, sexual health, etc. read more

Dr Jocelyn has excellent hygienists who are knowledgeable and not in a hurry. I've been to her office three times now for every 6-month cleaning, and every time i've gone in, the hygienist spent at least 45min doing her stuff and then had Dr Spalding go over problem spots. Dr Spalding is never trying to sell me services. I love this dental office and will return even if I move far away from this office. read more

This is an update my previous review. After 3years, i went back to dr. Spaulding's office and i had a much different experience. They werent overly agressive this time. Dr. Spaulding was very kind and personable. And most importantly my dental hygenist stephanie was a sweetheart. She did a through cleaning and fluoride treatment. She took time to explain me some preventative measures like how to use flossing properly and dental toothpicks. She carefully went over my films and exam. Decision was to do a general cleaning and not deep cleaning last time. I was happy about it. (My pocket was happy too). Thank you so much to everyone. I had a five star experience this time around. They clearly made improvements and I would not recommend them more. Too bad I am moving to Boston. I would have come here regularly. read more

Meant to post this earlier, but I can't get over how amazing my experience here was on Thursday! I am absolutely blown away! I came to have a filling replaced and also got some sealants placed on my teeth. I was extremely nervous since I previously had some very painful experiences at a corporate dentist, but not here! Dr. Spaulding and her assistant Kevin made sure I was comfortable and pain free the whole time and I didn't even cry! Never have I received such professional service from any other dentist until now! I am new to Atlanta, and having been to several dentists on the west coast, Dr. Spaulding puts them all to shame! She spends time to introduce herself and show that she cares about her patients. Also, her and her staff spend a few extra minutes to make sure they are doing an excellent job in everything they do. She took pictures of all of my teeth to examine each one closely. She gave me very helpful advice about my jaw popping and gum recession. Lazy dentists I've had in the past just said I was brushing too hard. They were able to fit me in for a filling at short notice, because I was leaving on a trip. My 8 year old son even enjoyed his check up. Only good things to say about this dentist, she's a keeper! read more

I've had a mixed experience with this practice. TLDR: She's great for routine maintenance, but anything that is beyond routine maintenance she and her staff aren't really competent. THE GOOD: * Dental hygienists are very thorough, friendly, and knowledgable. * I got some great advice for dental hygiene (using different rinses, etc.) * Cleanings are surprisingly genlte and thorough. THE BAD: * I repeatedly asked Dr. Spaulding to call me. She "never got the messages." Her staff was somehow unable to relay the request. Multiple times. Over the course of two years. * I asked Dr. Spaulding specific questions about a smile makeover in writing and in person. She would "forget" my questions. She wasted my time on multiple occasions because she was unable to read a memo with questions that were in writing. * Because Dr. Spaulding didn't answer my questions in a timely manner, I lost the opportunity to have insurance cover some of my procedures. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Spaulding ever since she began her dental practice in her current office, which must comprise more than 15 years. It is such a relief to know that people as competent and caring as Dr. Spaulding and her entire staff are taking care of my dental needs. The dental hygienists have always been remarkably thorough, and Danielle, whom I am seeing currently, is no exception. I have had a number of different procedures throughout the years (crowns, root canals, etc.), and they all have been handled expertly. Dr. Spaulding and her skilled dental assistant Kevin work beautifully together and have taken care of every problem I have had, after carefully explaining and showing me why any procedure is needed. When they have needed to make an outside referral for a procedure they do not do, their referrals have always been very good. It also is obvious to me that the team at the office has a high regard for Dr. Spaulding, and the attitude of friendliness and caring about patients extends everywhere, including to the billing office. I am grateful that I have a dental team in whom I can place so much trust. read more

This office is much like the modern Atlanta. Her skills are office management since employees seem to love her, and having an impressive office. Her fees are a bit high but not outrageous. The bad side is that my very strong crown also fits very badly and hurts a year later. Instead of admitting it did not fit she trimmed it, the teeth around it and finally I just gave up, it was within acceptable limits. My son in law who told me to go as he is married to a Filipino had a chipped front tooth. He went back again and again saying it was not right and she accused him of showing her the wrong tooth. He said he knew very well it was not. I asked her to do a root canal and she said she did not do those but referred them out. In short if you like heavy atmosphere she is good for you. If you are an engineer and just want good service and do not care what the place looks like she is not the dentist for you. read more

Let me start by saying I was very, very nervous to go to ANY dentist since it has been a decade since my last visit. I literally cried when I lost a filling not because it hurt, but because I was so embarrassed that I had waited so long. Capella the practice administrator is an absolute beauty and testament as to how every first impression employee should be. Then why I met Dr Spaulding, she talked me off of my ledge and didn't judge me at all. When it came to the actual service, there was Chloe the most cheerful assistant hands down. This office is beautiful, the staff so sweet and attentive. You even get to pick your own music to listen to during your appointment. I did have to wait a little over a week to see the doctor, but in my mind that's a good sign when it comes to a practice! I say good for them doing so well during tough times. They obviously know how to treat clients AND keep them! I still don't love going to the dentist, but they sure make it easier! read more

Unlike the first reviewer, I had a FANTASTIC experience at Dr Spaulding's. I too initially called with an emergency tooth problem. I called on a Monday and her office was able to accommodate me on the following Thursday at 7am sharp. Dr Spaulding and her staff assisted me in making a decision about a broken tooth and worked hard to ensure my comfort both during the initial consultation as well as the resulting extraction. It was evident that they wanted me to be able to make the decision that would work best for ME: they had no ulterior motives. Dr Spaulding herself is incredibly warm, empathetic and caring, and her entire staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The office is beautifully designed and is conducive to relaxation. I would easily recommend Dr Spaulding's practice to anyone in need of either major dental work or just a routine check up. read more

I am one of the hygienists at Dr. Spaulding's office. I have been practicing dental hygiene for 10+ years and I spent several years teaching dental hygiene as well. All that to say that I have worked with many dentists. And, believe me....I. HAVE. SEEN. IT. ALL!! She is, by far, one of the best dentists I have EVER come across! Everything about her practice is excellent (especially her hygienists). Today I had the pleasure of going to my dentist's office and was extremely impressed with the care they took to keep their clients safe. First they met me at the car to take my temp and review any signs of covid. Then I was walked in with my mask and at the front door put surgical booties on my shoes, used hand sanitizer and then was cleared to be escorted to my dental room. The staff have earpieces to make sure two clients are not in the hallway at the same time. All staff had PPE from head to toe. Once my cleaning was done, I was again escorted through the one way halls to the reception desk, after checking to make sure no other clients were in the hallways. My son is four years old and has had one tooth extracted by another practice where there are tons of childern and what I found out by the Spaulding team that restraining a child down is traumatizing to the whole experience for toddlers at the dentist. Saying that I have to applaud the staff at Spaulding family dentistry for there excellent customer service to the parents and our son during our visit. We got a honest consultation and referral to another doctor who would be able to do the anesthesia for the rest of his dental work! My son even told us he wanted to come back here from now on. My wife and I were clients of this office for ~1 year. Through out that period we had numerous difficulties with scheduling, insurance billing (on Met-life) and pricing. We are finally switching after 1) price increases without notification ($187 for routine check-up) and 2) we received a bill stating we, personally were 90-days over due, when in reality they did not handle the insurance billing properly. Not exactly fun receiving a letter on Friday afternoon stating you're $300+ in the hole for services rendered over 3-months ago when you already paid your deductible and co-pay! My teeth are in good shape - they never once pressured me to have unnecessary work done, and they paid attention to my dental history. I visited Dr. Spaulding in 2011, when she seemed somewhat new to dentistry. Although, very nice, I felt that she was far too aggressive in her approach to dentistry (see below). During my initial visit/routine teeth cleaning and check up, I was surprised to find that Dr. Spaulding told me I need to replace nearly EVERY filling in my mouth with either another filling or a partial crown. The total cost of replacement was nearly $2,000 after insurance. I am also in medicine and understand the importance of a second opinion. I visited another highly recommended dentist in Atlanta, who remarked that my fillings were 100% in tact and did not need replacing. In fact, that dentist said that each filling was in great condition and could not understand how Dr. Spaulding reached her conclusion (of course he said this in a professional manner, without throwing her under the bus). Since 2011, I've seen two more dentists for a total of 8+ check ups (one of those dentists is faculty at Dr. Spaulding's alma matter University of Pennsylvania). Both dentists in Philadelphia have remarked that my fillings are completely intact and definitely do not need replacement. Perhaps I caught Dr. Spaulding on an off day, but to me, she is more of a cosmetic dentist who is not conservative in her approach to dentistry. The work she would have had done, which she claimed i "needed", was expensive and (now 5 years later I can say without reservation) was completely unnecessary. Moreover, I was reminded by a faculty member at University of Pennsylvania's School of Dentistry that excessive and unnecessary work tends to lead to additional problems down the road. I'm sure Dr. Spaulding does great work, but I am extremely happy that I was skeptical of her opinion and I would suggest that her patients seek a second opinion for any major work that she suggests. read more

I have been a long time client of Dr. Spaulding. She does excellent work, but they will nickel and dime you to death. Furthermore they will wait until you are under full anesthesia or in the midst of dental surgery to tell you what you have to get done next. Leaving you with no other option but to pay more money for them to finish what they started. Also they always finding something to do to my teeth. This has happened to me at least 3X at this dentist office. Before coming to this practice, I had regularly positive dental exams and routines. Since coming to this practice, my teeth have been worked on more times than I care to mention. What keeps me here is Dr. Spaulding demeanor, but this is getting old. I recently had three crowns replaced at Dr. Spaulding's office. I've been pleased with her skills, office environment, and technology/equipment, and generally okay with her office staff. Her dental assistant, Marcella, is really the star of the show; the two of them are a great team. Dr. Spaulding's bedside manner takes some getting used to, but I think really she's just very compassionate. I haven't run across the issues mentioned by other reviewers with overly aggressive treatment (i.e., selling more than your teeth need). The initial patient visit does take a while, and they did recommend several things... but it was up to me which treatments to prioritize. Bonus: I have a small mouth and Dr. Spaulding has small hands! read more

I came to Dr. Spaulding through a friend's referral. I had a lot of work that needed to be done, and was frustrated with the quality of work at a prior dentist who I'd been seeing for years. Dr. Spaulding brought her careful attention to detail, presented very clear plans for care, and helped me get my teeth and gums in much better health in one calendar year. I find Dr. Spaulding to be very knowledgeable and trustworthy. Given my dental history, I did not come in readily trusting any dentist, but her expertise proved the day as she assiduously explained that I needed a nightguard to prevent further cracks to my back teeth, which she deduced could only be happening due to pressure I was placing on them by clenching my jaw subconsciously (during night and daytime). It took me time to accept this, but she was patient and persisted in her recommendation. I cannot say how thankful I am that she put these puzzle pieces together, which no previous dentist had. The technology and tools used in her office are outstanding as well, which I think is a big deal in terms of offering the best care possible (and also shows the investment she has made into having an excellent practice). I moved to a new city and was told by my current dentist what a fantastic job Dr. Spaulding did on my numerous fillings, and that my dental hygiene was excellent (thanks to the hygienists in her office giving me clear instructions on how to improve my home care-- which I thought I was doing well enough with, but clearly wasn't!). Lastly, her billing person, Elizabeth, was patient with me as I had to work through insurance claims. She did almost all of the work advocating on my behalf to the insurance company, and was quick to respond to my billing questions and requests for documentation. Just wanted to say I had a fantastic experience this morning. The staff was very knowledgeable, very professional, and did an outstanding job taking me through the initial process, the x-rays, and the cleaning. I ditched my last dentist down the street as the office had been merged into a corporate chain. I felt that the individual attention was lacking and the entire process felt really mass-marketed rather than tailored to my needs. The experience at Dr. Spaulding's office could not have been more different. I don't normally give 5-Star ratings as I feel there can always be room for improvement but I honestly can't think of a way my visit could have been improved (goldfish in the waiting room? They were knowledgable and professional. They weren't overly friendly by any means. My appointment lasted almost 3 hours, when all I wanted was a cleaning. I consented to the first visit examination, X-rays and floride treatment , for which they quoted me $130. No cavities! Yay, right? Nope. Made me feel like I had horrible teeth, sending me home with a prescription for special toothpaste, a bottle of prescription mouthwash ($18) and the recommendation to spend several hundred on a toothbrush. When checking me out, I was pleasantly surprised at the $86 bill ("oh, less than I thought!" "Oh, let me check...") nope, $218. With insurance. They have a little decorative water fall in the office. Final blow...no walking out with that clean mouth feeling: gritty fluoride treatment has to stay on for a few hours. read more

Overall, this is the most unorganized, unprofessional dentist practice. Let's start at the beginning, I was supposed to be a new patient. Filled out paperwork for a new patient and asked my dentist of 25+ years to submit. Called to follow up about 3 weeks ago to ensure they received the x-rays, records etc. Dr. Spaulding office showed no record of my appointment or x-rays that were sent. After working through that debacle, they found everything was in place. At that time, I expressed that I was a bit disappointed about their disorganization, etc. Today, June 28 was my first appointment for a dental cleaning. I am in the car heading to their office and I get a phone stating that I need panoramic x-rays and insurance will not pay for it until October. I asked if I can get my teeth cleaned and come back in October to have the x-rays taken. They tell me "no" - it is standard practice that they have to have these x-rays. I asked why am I just now finding this out 30 minutes before my appointment. Especially, since I took time off of work, etc. All they said is they understand my frustration. So I decided to call the office manager, they told me that she was with a patient. So I left my contact information and explained why I was calling and how unprofessional and unimpressed I was with my whole experience. Then, the dental receptionist says have a nice day and hangs up on me. I have no words for this practice. BEWARE!!! read more

While the staff and dental assistants are always very friendly, I've long suspected that Dr. Spaulding was unnecessarily aggressive with my dental treatments. I was already considering switching dentists before my last visit, and then this happened: I was in at 10:00 for a crown. They make these in-house now, so once the scans have been made it takes about an hour to wait for the machine to carve out the crown. As always, Dr. Spaulding wasn't pleased with the initial results, so we had to re-scan and make a new one. It was 1:00 at this point. Dr. Spaulding told me I could run a couple of errands since it would be an additional hour before the new crown would be ready. I told her, her assistant, and the receptionist that I'd be back by 2:00, and they all indicated that that was fine. When I returned at 2:00, THE OFFICE WAS CLOSED. Keep in mind, I had only a little stub of a tooth with nothing protecting it, and the Novocain was wearing off quickly. I called the office, but the voice message indicated that they were closed until 3:00 for a holiday party. No one had mentioned anything of the sort to me. When I finally managed to get back into the office due to the fortuitous arrival of a UPS delivery, I was curtly told that they were in the middle of a party and I could wait in the reception area if I wanted. I sat there in the dark until the party was finished. No one even once apologized. It was the most absurd dental visit I've ever had. I was stunned and infuriated. Now, to make matters worse, a week has passed since my visit and the pain has not subsided. I'm sure that something has gone awry, but I'd rather find a new dentist than return to Dr. Spaulding. read more

As I actually *was* a patient of Dr. Spaulding's for a couple of years, I wanted to give her a better rating than 1 star! Like Jessica C. mentioned, scheduling is a complete mess and the hours are very limited. I would definitely make this a 5 star rating and go back to them for all my dental needs if they hired another dentist for consistency and Monday appointments, and maybe even Saturdays. Note: I'm pretty sure that as of 1/16/14, the hours listed on Yelp are NOT correct. That said, Dr. Spaulding is a great dentist, and most of the people who took care of me there were really helpful. The office is decorated more like a spa than a dentist's office, and everything felt super clean and safe. She has a great "bedside" manner and does great with very anxious patients (and even the EXTREMELY dental phobic, like me). She's pretty good at sensing when I'm in pain but too petrified to be able to move or make noise, so I imagine she would be even more responsive to someone who was able to indicate they really needed her to stop. The cosmetic dentistry angle in the office decorating put me on guard and made me expect that I would have to fight them to just get a simple cleaning and checkup, but no one even mentioned it to me! Dr. Spaulding never pressured me into getting excessive work done, and she even says on her website that she's a very conservative dentist, meaning she doesn't drill into suspicious areas or do root canals "just in case." They were also pretty good about working out payment with me, rather than just saying "Well, if you can't use Care Credit, I guess you can't get that broken tooth fixed." There's a lot to love about Dr. Spaulding, but unfortunately, I just need a dentist office with better hours, and I need one that can be there for me in emergencies. I do hope she's successful enough to be able to hire someone equally as great as she is to see patients at a greater variety of times, because I would really like to make her my primary dentist again. read more

First, a disclaimer that I have not actually been a patient to Dr. Spaulding so I cannot speak to her skill as a dentist. However, I did try to make a new patient appointment and was completely frustrated and baffled by how I was handled. I called on Monday because of a dental emergency that needed to be taken care of immediately. I made this very clear to the receptionist and she scheduled me on Thursday. I gave her all my insurance information and it seemed find. I even called back the next day to confirm the appointment and to give her additional information. However, on Wednesday, I received a voicemail saying that her office accidentally had two people doing the scheduling for that day and she was double booked. The voicemail said she can move me to 1 hour later, which may have been fine for my schedule, but when I called back literally 10 minutes after missing the call, she said my appointment would have to be 2 hours later than the original time. I reiterated that this was an emergency but was basically told I am just out of luck. This office made NO attempt to accomodate me when it was their scheduling mistake. They also clearly have very limited hours...7AM-3PM. Don't waste your time with this disorganized and unsympathetic office. read more

Dr. Spaulding sees both me and my wife. Until recently I had a pretty average feeling on her and the practice. I had had good experiences but nothing over the top WOW. The facility is nice. The hygenists and Dr. Spaulding are both very nice and professional. They always seem to be really flexible with scheduling having extended hours one night a week even. But i feel like those qualities would lend to a 3 or 4 rating as most dentists worth their salt have these things. About 2 months ago my wife needed a medium level oral procedure. She came home and tried to explain it to me after the consult but I couldnt visualize it. So I called and Dr. Spaulding agreed to have a 2nd consult with us, squeezing us in to her busy schedule. After the procedure which went well my wife was in some pain and very uncomfortable. Dr Spaulding (not a secretary or hygenist) has called her 4 times in the past 2 weeks and even given my wife her personal cell number. She also agreed to allow her to have a follow up before her official follow up. That is A+ service in my book. read more
