I've been going to Signature Styles for more than ten years. I always have my hair cut by Tess, the owner. She does a consistently great job. My mom, who lives in Florida, will always stop in when she visits to get her hair cut by Tess. She says she gets her best hair cut from Tess. Jenn also did the hair and makeup for my daughter's wedding in 2023. Everyone was very pleased with the results. Went here a few time and Makayla was great! Called today and the woman on the phone was totally rude. I asked to see if she had something around 3 and she said no she had some earlier and then asked how about another day. I said I wouldn't be around and then asked if she had any other times open today and she said don't you listen that is why I asked you if you had another day. Just straight rude.... I hate making appointments but figured it was the thing to do and not just walk in. But I guess I'm off to find someone new to cut my hair. read more

I was on vacay and in need of a hair trim. Thankfully this spot shares the same building as my hotel. They were able to take me in the same day I called. Very happy with the service (I wish I remembered her name). She gave me exactly the hair trim I needed and she was so friendly. Very reasonable pricing too. First called to see if they had a product and they offered to hold it. Called back to tell them I had changed my mind and they said no problem, thanks for calling. Went in a few days later to get some Jessi Curl products. I was a little nervous because a lot of those products had glycerin and my hair sometimes reacts badly to that ingredient. Well, The woman was so helpful! She gave me some sample that were Jessi Curl packaged and the ones she didn't have packaged, she pulled from her own products. And this was before she knew if I was going to buy anything! Now having tried the product I am going back tomorrow to by some more stuff. So helpful, as these products can be expensive and it is so hard to find something to work for my individual hair. As I am really trying to keep my dollars local in Covid-19 times, I was thrilled to find this place. read more

First, I am addressing an individual stylist, not the entire salon. I made an appointment right before Thanksgiving, explaining that I just wanted a trim for shoulder length hair. After I sat in the chair, the stylist never asked me how I wanted my hair trimmed. She proceeded to trim 1 1/2 inches off; then she feathered/layered my hair, and it was uneven. One side had layers of up to 3 inches and the other side was 2 inches. When I asked about what she was doing, she said that no matter how I wear my hair, it won't have the straight edge appearance. I like the straight edge appearance, which is why I wear my hair all one length. I did not want my hair layered. I was never even asked if I wanted that done. I spent Thanksgiving with family in another state; I spent Christmas with other family in a different state. I had not seen my family in a while, and felt uncomfortable with the Farrah Fawcett look. To say I am unhappy with the stylist is an understatement. No, I will not recommend the salon. read more

I've also had my nails done by Jasmine who did a terrific job and was very kind--it was my first time getting my nails done professionally so I didn't know what to ask for, but Jasmine was really helpful. Made an appointment here because of the convenient location. We were 15 minutes early and saw a woman still getting her hair cut, so we walked in the hallway until my scheduled time. We walked in to find someone else had just sat down, seemingly having taken my slot. We sat down and waited and waited and waited and neither hairdresser even once acknowledged we were sitting there - not even a casual "I'll be right with you", or "how can I help you?" Just several glances at us without a word. So after ten minutes of sitting there being ignored, we left. I'll be taking my business elsewhere now. I'd suggest this to others who actually want to get their hair cut, or even be addressed at all when you walk in the door. read more

Rude Owner. I have never cried after a hair appointment before and as soon as I got home I was in complete tears because she messed up my hair horribly and did whatever she wanted after multiple times of me saying I didn't want here to do what she was doing to my hair. read more

I went in to get my eyebrows shaped, the woman was very nice. When she showed me my eyebrows at first glance they looked fine (in a tiny hand held mirror) and when I go to look in a full sized mirror at home there were chunks of my eyebrow missing and extremely uneven. read more

Jennifer saved my hair! I had gotten a bad haircut with very uneven layers that were too short in many places. I thought for sure she'd have to cut a ton of length to give me a cohesive style, but she managed to save most of my length! She only cut about an inch off the ends and faded in the layers perfectly. It wasn't my favorite haircut ever, but that was because of how messed up it was to begin with! It's been about six weeks since that cut and it's growing out really well! I look forward to going back to her! I also thought she was nice and professional, but I found another stylist to be less professional. During my haircut, one of the other stylists kept coming to talk to Jennifer about random things (such as ordering supplies and the heat/AC unit not working that morning). It clearly wasn't social conversation that I should be included in, and I felt that it could be a distraction. I don't think my haircut suffered from it, but it struck me as odd and potentially problematic. read more

Signature styles is a great little salon located in the hotel complex. I had my hair done (cut and color) by Carissa and she was absolutely wonderful. They salon is always clean and they have great products. Most of the stylists were professional and personable. I agree with the previous review that the owner is less professional. She doesn't seem to have proper respect for the clients, but more, for the stylists working for her. But that does not detract from the amazing women working at this salon and the great work they do - just don't book an appointment with the owner and you will really enjoy the experience. read more

I used Signature Styles back in July for my wedding, and Jennifer and Nikki were the stylists for myself and my bridesmaids. I am so happy that we were able to find them! They were easygoing, fun, and very accommodating with all of our requests. Everyone was happy with how their hair and makeup turned out. I absolutely loved my hair and makeup - it was done in such a tasteful way so that I was still able to feel like myself! Not overdone at all. I had completed a trial and then ended up changing the hairstyle I wanted last minute and Jennifer went with it and did an amazing job! Once again, Tess has made my day! If you have curly hair, go see her. My hair is curly with different types all over. She is an artist and understands how to make it all work together. I disagree with the 1-star comment. I've been coming here for almost 1 year now and I love the stylists. The girls are always welcoming and professional and very far from outdated. Before I moved to the area, my hair salons were located in the Four Seasons and the Ritz Carlton hotels so, no, it's not like I've never been anywhere else. Yeah, the decor isn't nearly as 5-star as big-city places and there's no 10-minute head massages with a shampoo but come on. It's VERMONT. What do you expect? The service is real and the girls are very nice and knowledgeable. What more can you ask for? The prices are also very fair. The girls are not skanky. They are wonderful. read more

Amy Young of Signature Styles did my hair for my wedding, and I'm so glad I chose to work with her! I think I was more worried about my hair than most pieces of the wedding; the fanciest my hair typically gets is a loose braid or a messy bun, and I never touch a blow drier or hairspray, so most of the wedding hairstyles that I saw pictures of looked completely unnatural and not me. On top of that, despite extensive internet searching, I struggled to find many wedding hairstylists options in the Mad River Valley area. I was lucky to come across Signature Styles, where I was connected with Amy. Amy understood what I wanted (and really, what I didn't want), and she ensured that my hair looked elegant but not overly done. I was thrilled with the result! I have very thick, curly hair and Tess has always given me great cuts. They carry great product lines, give out samples of products they think will work best for your hair, and give great instructions on how to care for your hair at home.
