Very very surprisingly large selection of very diverse brands. Like even more than many giant big box shoes stores. They have upper level and also mid range shoes for both men and woman. And while I was there they were staffed with 3 nice ladies NOT stupid gum chewing kids you would find at a mall shop. They care about their customers. read more

I'll start this off in saying I'm a shoe abuser. I wore one pair of shoes for one function for most of my life. I had dress shoes, hiking boots, sneakers, and sandals. Later I added in work shoes. That was it. I didn't know about swapping shoes out to another pair the next day for shoe health. I didn't know what an oversized shoe felt like-- All that changed when I went to Silcott's for a pair of replacement work shoes whose only goal was "I need something in black that will survive long days and please no heals." Trust me. No one wants to see me in heels unless they enjoy beached cetacean videos on youtube. I digress. Silcott's was the first place I've gone into and experienced what a well-fit shoe feels like. They put your foot on those metal scales, sure, but they know that just because the number says 8, that doesn't always mean that is what you'll be in the shoe. They poke your toes. They eye your arches. They watch you walk. They ask you questions. They wave what I can only say must be a magical shoe wand as they adjust the sole and the shoe to fit you. It's amazing. I was buried in shoe boxes. There were shoes everywhere, but finally, I found the ones I wanted. Once I realised how nice it was (and got used to driving with a smaller shoe-- you know how it is, your foot slips off the pedal bc your mind says the show belongs HERE not there)-- I started going back for a pair of dress shoes, my second pair of work shoes. I am going back to sandals in the spring when I don't have the risk of frostbite during the arctic vortex of doomsday... The shoes always fit and they look awesome too. The icing on the cake, however, is the awesome customer service. You walk in, and you might as well be walking on sunshine with rose petals coming down from the ceiling. They take care of you. Even when they are full of people in every chair, you get a smile and a greeting to let you know they noticed you walk in. They put up with my vague needs such as "I need shoes for work... uh... that fit me." My advice to anyone going in is to sit down and enjoy the experience. Give yourself some time to get the right fit, and they will take care of you. If you go in and just stuff your feet into random shoes and judge by the "well my foot fits, so it must fit (been there, I did that)" then you won't be happy. The myth of the glass slipper where a shoe magically fits may happen to some rare individuals, but I'm realistic that finding a great pair of shoes should NEVER rely on my judgement as to whether it fits or not. I need professional help, and at Silcott's Shoes, I get it. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. read more

This shoe store has a great selection of many great brands such as Frye, Ugg, Vionic, L'Artiste and many others. They also have a wall in the back of sale items that is always changing. I never need new shoes but always want to look and see what's new and often buy. The staff is always attentive and asks if I need my foot measured, I do appreciate good customer service but it seems as though the manager insists that everyone gets there foot measured and he runs around the store 100 MPH barking orders at the employees. She was very thorough, having me try on different styles and sizes because no two companies sizes are exactly the same. Over the past couple of years my wife and I have purchased 8 pair of shoes from Silcott Shoes in Valparaiso, IN. They have a very good selection to choose from for all occasions and the pricing was commensurate to the quality of their footwear. However, more important than price was how Brent, the owner, stretched and manipulated each individual shoe to fit perfectly. If, at some time later, we felt we still needed and adjustment to one or both shoes, Brent would tweak them to make sure we were completely comfortable and satisfied. Prior to coming to Silcott Shoes we purchased shoes at major department and other shoe stores and had to select a shoe that most closely fit with as little discomfort as possible, then break them in or cause our foot to conform to the shoe, with some uncomfortability. I have neuropathy and we both wear doctor provided orthotics and Brent assured our shoes were fit with the orthotics in them for a perfect fit. After wearing shoes for close to 70 years we're now wondering if we had had correct fitting shoes over that time span, would we have had the foot problems we have today? The days of the uncomfortable period of breaking shoes in is over for us. Thank you, Brent, for your continued focus on providing great fitting shoes. The staff is friendly and helpful, the store has a nice style to it, i love love love that the womens and mens is in diffrent rooms, that way husband and wife come in and just look on there own! After reading the reviews, I decided to give this place a try. I have a very hard to fit foot and shoe shopping is generally not a pleasant experience. Hoping this was going to be a different experience, I went in on a Saturday morning. The ladies in the store were nice but did not have the knowledge to help me out. Brent seemed knowledgeable but was very distracted by any other customers that came into the store and wouldn't take the time to provide me with the customer service required. There is simply no other shoe store like Silcott's -- None! I wish I had taken others' advice years ago when they told me to shop for shoes at Silcott's. Brent is meticulous about making sure the fit is perfect, the style and color are what you want ... right down to the heels and soles being made of the material you prefer. I wanted a sale-priced, high-end shoe, but with a different heel and sole than the manufacturer normally offered. Brent said he would give it a try. He placed a special order for the shoe to my specifications and when it arrived not exactly as I had asked, he insisted on sending it back until they got it right. To top it off, he gave me a discount on top of the already great sale price, for what he considered my inconvenience. Now, I stop in periodically to see what is on sale, and when the product is right & the price is about 1/2 of what I would pay at a good sale on Michigan Avenue, I buy another pair.
