What a great addition to the type of cuisine in the area! Silk Road is so lovely. One part of the restaurant is polished with nice decor, and the other still has a a display counter for take out orders and has a pastry shop feel. The food is great, with the standouts being the cold skin noodles (such a unique flavor!), falafel, and of course their honey cake and Turkish tea. If not anything else, come here for that cake and tea. The honey cake flavor builds as you eat it... really good and tastes like you are eating honey comb. We opted for vegetarian today, but will certainly be back to try the meat dishes. The absolute best thing about Silk Road is the staff. The staff is so friendly, accommodating, and hardworking. I never saw anyone at rest, but it wasn't in a chaotic way that made you feel hurried. Love this place. read more

The food at this place is very good. I have been there 2 times. This would have received a 5th star, but unfortunately the service here is lacking. The first time I came here I had fried cornish game hen. It was small but quite good, fried but not greasy. I also tasted some of my fiance's food and it was good too. Next time I had the borscht with beef and that was very good. The breads there are also great. The next time I opted for the Khachapuri. This is a rather large boat of dough, baked with cheese and an egg on top. Now to be fair I think this is a Georgian dish, so who knows if they make it better. Really solid restaurant -- it made me realize how easy it is to feel totally satisfied here! I'd give the food a solid 8.5+/10. The lamb and veal liver were especially great -- super fresh and tender. Just a bit of seasoning and grilling was enough to bring out the full flavor. Loved that pure, meaty taste. The crispy manta also hit the spot -- that comforting, carb-filled bite is just what you need sometimes. I'm not usually a big fan of shurpa soup, but it paired surprisingly well with the richness of the meat. The flavors really balanced out. As for the vibe, it depends on personal preference. It was a bit quiet when I visited, but I've heard Silk Road gets packed during Uzbek holidays. I'd say this place wins hearts mainly with its flavors, not the service or decor. Love trying food from places all over the world. So I was delighted to find this Uzbekistan restaurant. The interior is really nice, you as if you walk into a different world, so to speak. It is spacious, and after us it filled up quick. The service is good, but a bit slow, due to the many guests and the shortage of personnel. Eating Uzbekistan food is a new experience for me, and overall I liked it, I expected it to be more flavorful though in regards of seasoning. The Turkish coffee was great and a good way to end the night. Would love to come back and try some other dishes. The portions are big, so I recommend to order different items and share. This place is a hidden gem. We were in the area last night and decided to give it a try since I don't think we've ever had Uzbeki food before. I tried the Plova and it was fantastic, my husband had a chicken dish which was very good. We also tried the Dolma and the potatoes and mushrooms. All the food was terrific. The prices are reasonable, the staff was friendly and we didn't feel rushed. The only tiny down side is the space is one big open room which would be great for a party, but the room echoes a little making it hard to hear the waiter sometimes. But that would certainly not keep me away. We had no room for dessert, but next time we will be ready for it. read more

if you're looking for great Russian/Asian food this place has it all and makes it from stock. lamb beef chicken kebabs are fantastic. All their breads are baked fresh they have all the Russian appetizers like herring and potatoes etc. great soups. It's like you are in a five star restaurant in Tbilisi, Tashkent or Moscow. Very interesting hole in the wall. Place was dead when we went earlier this week. I really did not like our server. The experience and this review would have been better had I had someone else. As someone with a life threatening food allergy, I asked if anything had nuts? The server responded by saying no but we use oil and I said okay what kind? And she said I don't know it's in a big box no one knows, implying she would not find out for me. Okay. Fine. I had a very mediocre experience. I recently saw a YouTube series about Uzbekistan food and made me really excited. Even though they showed horse meat which I wasn't interested in nor do Uzbeki restaurants in USA sell horse meat dishes. I had so high hopes but was pretty disappointed. We tried the kutabi (an Azerbaijan food with fresh herbs or minced meat). Megruli Khachapuri, a pizza like food with cheese from the country Georgia. Megruli was the best thing I ate that night. Chicken Kebab was so tough, unflavorful and chewy. I think middle Eastern people make the best kebabs. Those kebabs be it chicken or lamb are so nicely marinated and thus the final product is much better and flavorful than this. Even the fried crispy manti (dumplings) of sweet potato was so mediocre. Unfortunately didn't try the Plov as I was not interested in having lamb and there was no substitute. read more

We were so excited to check this place out and the atmosphere and food did not disappoint. The soup was my favorite, it was very comforting with vegetables and chunks of beef. Extraordinary value, easy place to be, outstanding unusual food. Arrived early before dinner hour, about 4:30 or so. Dining room almost empty. Menu Uzbek cuisine, recognizable as Eastern European food for the most part. We had party of three so decided to do a lot of sampling. Some selections were truly outstanding, nothing was less than "way above average." The Lagan soup was a rich broth with homemade noodles and a flurry of vegetables and tender beef. First rate. Salads were tasty and fresh, well presented. The kabobs were priced reasonably and hard to resist, one of the features that made it easy to sample many menu items. There was a flaky crusted sort of biscuit-shaped bread filled with chopped meat that was outstanding. It was initially intended as part of the tasting, but quickly ordered - and then reordered once more. Also for dessert their napoleon was dead solid perfect, not that cloyingly sweet pastry that most restaurants serve. This was nuanced and flavorful. Service was non-intrusive, personable and timely. These folks were clearly interested in ensuring that the meal was to be enjoyed. Atmosphere was spartan, but clean and one could tell the restaurant was determined to adhere to Covid-19 sanitation procedures. I define value as the quality of the entire dining experience compared to the $$$ paid for same. Cannot do justice to this review without mentioning that the value of dining at this restaurant was stellar. 5 stars without hesitation. read more

My husband and I picked up Silk Road for takeout for lunch this past Monday, and I am a fan. Silk Road is an Uzbek restaurant in Pikesville, but their menu offers a range of dishes from Central Asia/former USSR countries (Azerbaijan, Georgia). We placed an order online on their website, and it was ready just when they said it would be (30-45 minutes later). Because there were so many we wanted to try, we ordered a range of appetizers and salads rather than ordering large entrees: khachapuri (Georgian-style cheese filled bread), kutabi (Azerbaijani savory pancakes filled with beef), crispy manti (fried dumplings with pumpkin), khinkali (boiled Georgian dumplings filled with spiced meat), carrot salad (shredded carrots, garlic, spices, and olive oil), and fresh salad with suzma (sliced cucumber, radish, and greens in a sour yogurt sauce). Everything was delicious; there wasn't a dish I wouldn't happily order again! Although they appeared to be offering dine-in service, we took our Silk Road dishes to go. This place was a good find. Food was fairly priced. We ordered takeout for two. It took about 45 minutes to get ready, but the food did not disappoint. The Plov was flavorful. They used boneless lamb which was succulent and tender but the flavor didnt really make it all the way into the meat cubes. Defintely worth trying. Chicken kebab was tasty and flavorful. I tried the Kutabi which was very soft. I had some leftovers the next morning, and it still was soft, did not get soggy or stretchy. Wow, just amazing. My friend and I went to Silk Road for lunch today and had the most amazing food. We both got the plov, samsa, and I got the egg plant salad. The plov was so flavorful, with good portion of meat. It looks so simple but taste wonderfully. The eggplant was rich with oil and spices and herbs. Samsa was meaty and filling. I wish it wasn't covid season and more people could come and we could order more food family style and share everything. We had a wonderful late lunch at this gem of a place. I've never had Uzbek cuisine before, this was absolutely delicious. We had beef samsas, sweet potato, beef and potato mantis (dumplings to die for), chicken Shish kebabs and a wonderful flavorful steamed rice. We also got turkish coffees and teas with their baklava. Silk Road is an Uzbek restaurant. The food is delicious, and the decor is nice. They serve the dishes as they become finished in the kitchen so that's something that you have to just deal with. I ordered the eggplant salad appetizer. The eggplant was a perfect consistency, assuming you like eggplant. I do, but not everyone does. It had subtle seasoning. I enjoyed it. For my main course, I had chicken wing shish kabob. That's probably not a traditional Uzbek dish, but they gave the wings an oriental flavor with the spices and marinade. The wings were tender, juicy, and meaty. If it weren't for the fact that I'm obese, I would have ordered a second helping. My wife had bronzini with vegetables. The bronzini was served intact. My wife asked them to remove the head and tail back in the kitchen, and they obliged. The fish was excellent. My sister-in-law had Manti, dumplings stuffed with pumpkin. Very good. And my brother-in-law had lamb chunks served over aromatic rice. He enjoyed his meal. Silk Road has free parking, but it's not accessible for the disabled. You have to go up steps just to get into the place, and if you want to go to the rest room, you need to go down a flight of stairs. read more
