I can't begin to say enough good things about this place. My bf is from Uzbekistan and I wanted an authentic place to take him to. This place didn't disappoint. He was even happy to speak in Russian to them the whole time. Their ambience and service is wonderful. Food choices are very authentic and full of flavor. Even if you've never eaten Russian/Uzbek food, I highly recommend you try it out. Their portion sizes are great as well. And they have so many choices. You can even tell that all is made fresh. We ordered plov, manti, tashkent salad, kompot, kebobs and their potato salad (i forget the name of this dish) and their bread. It was all wonderful. Definitely worth the drive. read more

The first time I tried Silk Road Choyhona, I had just watch a Youtube video about Uzbek food and had a craving for something I had never eaten before. To my luck, we had great Uzbek food less than 15 mins away! It was a while ago but we ordered the samsa, manti, kutabi, plov, and chohohbli, and I can't recall what else but we loved it! Last night my husband and I decided to dine in. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with cultural artifacts and art. This may just be a me thing but the serveware was envy worthy. It was gorgeous. I'm obsessed with beautiful dishware. There were only two people taking orders and serving food for an almost full dining room so we were understanding of a bit of a wait time. The staff were very friendly and checked in on us when they could. We ordered the khachipuri, samsa, oxtail, chohobli, steamed rice, pilmeni, and hot tea. Both the khachipuri and samsa were flaky pastries: khachapuri filled with a salty stretchy cheese with a cheese pull that tasted better than it was Instagram-able and samsa filled with a savory meat/onion mixture served with a tomato based sauce. Get one per person because you will not want to share. We ordered fried mini dumplings which are filled with meat and also served with same tomato based sauce that came with the samsa. They were delicious but afterwards I saw that you can get them steamed in a broth, I told myself I have to get that next time. The slow-cooked, tender oxtail was served over the best crispy, fat-fried potatoes I've ever had. The chohobli (chicken stew) was fall off the bone into a delicious tomato-based stew. We ordered the rice to sop up the delicious stew. The tea really helped to cut the richness of all the delicious food. I have not shut up about this place since we had this meal. I will rave about it to just about anyone that will listen in hopes that they will come with me next time so we can order more dishes to share. read more

So ok, we tried the food, drove 40 miles hoping it'll be the same as the one's we see everythime we watch this in YouTube, well it was a disappointing experience , got the plov the samsa and the dumpling, for start the rice they used is really dry, and hard and probably from yesterday's left over, the meat is dry as well, and what made it worse they didn't even use basmati rice, it's probably the cheapest rice they can find, for a signature and famous Uzbek specialty idk why they had to sacrifice quality and the flavor , I mean that's the Uzbek trade mark.but it felt like like they didn't care about it honey cake is not that honey, ( try the one in Virginia the turkish place that cake is 10x way better) the napoleon? When you can't travel, your taste buds can. Uzbekistan food is not well known, but when you are craving Middle Eastern food, this may fill your desires. Friendly service, the other table there on a Tuesday night were from that region, speaking in native tongue. Speaking of tongue, that is on the menu as well. We started with pickled veggies, cucumbers, red cabbage and green tomatoes- very tasty! The crispy potatoes were amazing, perhaps fried in beef fat? So Lucious, I doubt it was olive oil. The lamb loin kebab was tender and tasty, and at $10.99 a bargain! The shrimp kabab was just as affordable, yet I though I though they were a bit overdone. This is an absolute hidden gem. We stopped in at couple times and absolutely loved everything we ordered. The staff was very nice and pleasant. In terms of food, Silk Road Choyhona is 10/10. You rarely get the opportunity to try Uzbek food and the quality of the dishes is outstanding. What I've Tried from the Menu: - Samsa (10/10) - Khachipuri (8/10) - Dolma (5/10) -- I generally don't love Dolma haha - Dumgaza (11/10) - Plov (10/10) I've visited Silk Road Choyhona 3 times in-person and order via delivery apps on occasion. The decor is nice, but chairs are a little uncomfortable. The main reason this review is not 5-stars is due to an experience with the customer service...2 out of the 3 times I visited were great, no problems and super polite & attentive staff. On one of those occasions however (2-3 years ago), I called ahead of time to ask to be seated in a particular area and was told over the phone that it would be no problem. When we arrived however, our request was denied and we were instead seated at a table across the door in the winter with 2 toddlers. A cold breeze came in every time someone entered through the door and one of our chairs was wobbly. On top of that, our main waitress was very cold to us. By the end of the evening, some members of my party felt that we were being racially discriminated against (we were the only black people in the establishment), which is an accusation my family has never made in this country. I acknowledge the negative experience and amplify how my party felt, but hesitate to make a final verdict on the accusation of racism, as my other experiences at this restaurant were the complete opposite (it was my party's first/only time at the restaurant). Perhaps our waitress was rude, but I don't have the evidence to say that the entire establishment shares the behavior of the waitress we had that day (I did not get her name). The experience was years ago now, but it was so negative that I have not dined inside of the restaurant since that encounter. It was not only negative, but embarrassing as I had recommended the restaurant to celebrate a relative's birthday. Instead of feeling celebratory, my party left upset. As I said, I am not sure this one-off encounter reflects the whole restaurant, where I have otherwise had pleasant experiences. I plan to give dining inside another chance in the future. read more

Being a frequent visitor and great lover of Central Asian, Caucaian and Mediteranian cuisine, i vote today's restaurant experience as the BEST EVER. The food was abslutely great and authentical tovwhat I had visiting Uzbekistan. I had a Musfata soup, lamb shish kebavb and astounding Achik Chichuk Salad!! Next time I will definitely order Plov accompannied by this salad. Such combination is the must and unlikely you find it in other places. We ordered food from choyhona place for New Year's Eve, and everything was absolutely delicious! The quality was so impressive that we ended up placing another order the very next day The plov was fresh and flavorful--absolutely perfect. The Olivier salad was also fantastic; we added some onions to suit our personal taste, and it was just right. The manti, both with meat and pumpkin, were incredibly delicious and clearly freshly made. Somsa are delicious as usual, we ordered ten Somsa for New Year's Eve and ordered more next day yep it was thaaat good. This place truly exceeded our expectations, and we'll definitely be recommending it to friends and family, especially for catering. I just feel so lucky and blessed to have a real, authentic, honest-to-goodness Uzbek restaurant nearby! I love going there & I love ordering delivery from there, too .... If you go it's so very neat & cool because they have partitions made of hanging fabrics & not the kind of fabrics you'd normally see in this area but that are of course thankfully evocative of the place where they & the food are both from. It's very unusual for people or places such as restaurants to present things in such a way -- normally, there might be some kind of evocation of the place of origin of the food in the form of, say, art on the walls but nothing so all-encompassing as what is offered here! It's very different. Uzbekistan is literally in the air here in the form of scents of food wafting from the kitchen .... I enjoy so many of the foods here! This is a lot to say considering the vegetarianness of my food-ordering & eating habits, & I can let you know with full confidence that if you only order vegetarian food here (or from here!), you will not go hungry. The potato manti (dumplings) alone can fill you up. The punch is very tasty & an incredibly good deal, too! When I have this at home, I drink the liquid & there is some wonderful fruit concoction left over in the bottom that I spoon into wine glasses & eat as a dessert -- but don't worry, they have desserts, too! The mushroom soup might be the best thing I've had from here -- I don't know if that sounds exciting to you, but I love soup! This is a really great one. Mmm .... It's super-hearty, extremely tasty, & ... it's got a good amount of something succulent such as oil that I'm afraid to mention given today's current climate of fear around fats but that's what you need on a cold winter day, in my opinion! It's deeply nourishing physically & emotionally & tastes great, too! It's everything you could want or need in a soup! Second-best in my opinion is the Kachipuri. The green onion Kutabi wasn't exactly my favourite thing ever but at the same time, I did appreciate the nutrition I was getting from it & of course I must try it with some of the other fillings next time! One thing I know is there will be a next time, & a next time, & a next time ... because I just love this part of the world (central Asia) -- speaking of which, the name of this place is so perfect! Some places that people might consider remote & think of as 'backwards' or 'inaccessible' have actually long been connectors of places and therefore, also very connected themselves, & the name of the restaurant, the décor, & the food all speak to and show this to be true! Of course, if you go in person & talk to, say, your server, then the person with whom you speak will show this, too -- I mean, this is true, whether or not you see it! I always like to talk to people so for me, this is especially true! The mashed potatoes are nice -- maybe a little lumpy -- but ... not too special, in my view. I mean, I think they were very special when they were first made way back when! I just expected a little more flavour in them since I read that they were perfectly spiced but I didn't really experience them as being spiced at all -- but that can be good when you want something to just add to something else; I did add a bit of the mashed potatoes to my second bowl of soup, & it was a good combination! (I'm trying not to repeat 'Mmm' all the time -- but it really fits!) The Medovik cake was good but ... the truth is, I'm not a big fan of cake for the most part, so I'm probably not the best judge of this. I do believe I need to try -- & report on! -- some of their other desserts .... In case you can't tell, I ordered an awful (well, actually wonderful!) amount of food for one meal & this did last two people at least two if not three meals -- plus fruity snacks and beverages! I really wanted to get some other things, too, such as salads but I could see it would all be way too much & so I got things that I thought would last a bit -- and yes, they did! I mean to say that a salad should be eaten sooner than, say, a soup because it could wilt and go bad & all that, and I didn't want that happening so I had to resign myself to trying some things such as various salads later .... We had a nice dinner here this evening with a couple of friends. My wife ordered ONLY the beef tongue with horseradish, which all enjoyed even though Greg was a tad squeamish about the whole idea. Greg's meal was the crispy pelmeni with a hot sauce. I began with lagman but also ordered the stuffed cabbage leaves (golubtsi), expected the lagman ot be a soup, but no, it was a stew and quite filling. I enjoyed the stuffed leaves but half of it came home in a box. Cathy's plov was OK but the lamb was a bit dry; the rice that came along, though, was both moist and flavorful. Wanting more, Nancy ordered mushrooms and potatoes which she liked very much We were full from the main dishes but found the desserts too tempting. Went here with no expectations. Without much knowledge about the food either. What stood out immediately was presentation. The menu is sleek and metal and had a nice intro paragraph about the cuisine and what we should try if unsure. I liked how the seating looked for the larger parties. Don't have a picture, but I'm sure you can find it on other people's pictures. Great home feeling, and good for conversation. What was recommended was the plov. A nice sweetness in the rice from the raisins and carrots. Satisfactory but wasn't something outstanding to my tastes. Samsa was out of this world. Flaky pastry combined with savory meat with bits of onions. Piping hot. I almost want to just order 5 of these next time I come. And I would be happy. Excited to come back and try more. The food here was good - not incredible - but very good. The lagman soup was definitely a highlight as well as the salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, and feta. We did get the kebabs and they were good but not amazing. The ambiance is amazing and very authentic environment. The interesting thing is that there was an engagement party going on while we were there and they took over the sound system there and had music playing with dancing in the center of the restaurant. 10/10! Went here for lunch with one of my coworkers to decompress from a stressful long term project that we had completed, and it was less than a 10 min drive. When we walked in, it was empty (which I was surprised about because on their website it tells you that if you're planning on eating there less than a week in advance to call them to book a reservation, and I booked 2 days before). The Mediterranean like decor in the main seating was pleasant, as it felt like I was being immersed in the cultural environment. Main dish: lamb rib on a skewer with yellow rice and pickled onions. Absolutely wonderful, the meat was well seasoned and well grilled, I was licking my fingers LOL that's how good it was. I would definitely check this place out. They were not around at all, but they added an automatic 20% tip to the bill for our group. We ordered a round of our favorite dishes and tried a few more. 3*Cabbage salad: per normal , the portion was small. 4.5*Achik Chichuk is their signature salad. It included tomatoes, onions with olive oil, vinegar, and red pepper dressing. It was a simple but good dish. The tomatoes seemed like home grown and organic because they tasted fresh and special. 4*Lagman soup: hand made noodles, beef stew with radish, green beans, bell peppers and turnips: it was served with red spicy sauce on the side. It was good without it. 4.2*Turkish style liver: pan fried veal liver served with onions and marinara. This was the first time I had Uzbek cuisine and it will definitely not be the last. When I arrived to pick up my takeout I was quickly greeted and helped. The person who helped me asked what my order was and made sure everything was there. I had to suffer on the drive home because I couldn't stuff my face while driving. It smelled so good! I stuffed my face when I got home... the plov (boneless lamb leg, rice, roasted garlic, chili pepper, garbanzo beans, and raisins) was one of the most delicious things I've had in a while. It was sweet and savory. The meat was so tender and the raisins added a perfect hint of sweetness. Yum! I also got crispy chuchvara (dumpling filled with ground meat and onion) and steamed pumpkin manti (with what I believe was cumin). The chuchvara came with pickled onions and ya girl loves some pickled onions ! They added the perfect amount of acidity. The manti was not sweet and it was very delicious. I definitely want to return and try more things. Next time I'm going to sit inside because from what I saw, it looked very clean and was beautifully decorated. Silk Road was a very fun experience. When you walk in it has tall ceilings and relaxed vibe. It was fantastic and yet not super fancy. I do recommend it. The service was polite and helpful. I asked for multiple suggestions and the service helped with pointing me in the direction. The food was awesome. I ordered the Plov which is a favorite it appears. The meal was wholesome but not heavy. I found the way they cooked the carrots was very unique to Silk Road and I appreciate their style. The lamb was tender. The brown rice accompanied the rest of the meal very well. I also ordered the borsh I believe and that was like a cabbage version of French onion soup but without the cheese. I ordered the bread to go alongside it. Both were great. The bread was super fresh made for me I felt like. I would like to update my review as I think it's unfair to leave them with a review I wrote 8 years ago, as a much younger and less experienced consumer. We decided to give the restaurant another shot and we were pleased with the meal overall. We ordered the Plov, Samsa, Manti, Kutabi, Chahohbili, and the Uzbek Tandoor bread. The Plov was sweet, rich and savory all at the same time. I am personally not a huge fan of sweet/savory, but I found this to be pretty good. My only complaint would be the meat was a bit overdone and not as tender as I'd hoped. The Samsa was delicious! I was a bit upset I didn't order another. The Manti was probably my favorite thing haha definitely a must. We got the fried ones which had a nice crispy outer texture that complimented the filling perfectly. The Kutabi (veg) was definitely tasty, though I do wonder if the meat one would have been a better choice. The Chahohbili tasted great. I did find it to be a bit overwhelming flavor wise, but I'm used to spicy curries so having the powerful flavor without the spiciness was the reason I found it to be a bit much. We ate it with the bread. I would like to say that overall, I think this restaurant is great and I would definitely consider coming back for more Uzbek food. My favorite dishes are salad Smak, Kutabi, lyulya kebab, Hachapuri and Honey Cake! My toddler is a very picky eater but she finds Choyhona's food to be very yummy. My teenager says their Chuchvara (dumplings) are the best out there! Friday and Saturday evenings are always busy so make sure to reserve a table ahead. I ordered a takeout on 1/21/2022 and the dish was Assorted Kebab Platter ($37 after tax). I have attached its picture and I have to say the portion size was disappointing. First, let's break down the dish itself. The meat inside was not bad at all. The different meats were slightly dry. I picked up the dish roughly 5minutes after it was ready. My drive home was exactly 5 minutes. So for the meat to be somewhat dry after sitting in a sealed foil wrap for 10 minutes is understandable. The seasoning of the meats was great. Thus the taste of the meat was definitely the highlight. Now for the actual lowlight (my opinion): 1) the portion size for the price is evident in the picture. I firmly believe the serving amount is underwhelming. 2) the veggies in the dish were very bland. Most of the veggies were either purposely uncooked or undercooked. I guess the vision of the dish was to balance the fully cooked meat with the freshness of the uncooked veggies. I just don't think the dish came out well. Lowlight (my wife's opinion): 1) she thought the veggies were outrageously under seasoned. She only saw black pepper on the uncooked onions. Both of us thought the roasted tomatoes and peppers were the only saving graces of the veggies. 2) she didn't like the two red sauces that came with the dish. She said the sauce didn't complement the Platter. I dipped once and thought the sauce was forgettable. She rated the sauce as a negative. I thought the sauces were mehhhh. Overall: my wife wanted to give a 2/5, but I'll be nice and give this takeout experience a 3/5. I honestly do think the dish we ordered would fare much better when eaten in the restaurant.
