I wasn't expecting a dirty look from the hotel clerk where we were staying when I asked, "Where is the nearest Starbucks?" "You should head out to the Silver Bean. It's on your way to Mesa Verde national park. It's in an old silver trailer." Okay. I'd settle for a roadside stand for that matter but there she was. Housed in a 1969 Airstream trailer, the cafe had would be best described as caffeine-clash kitsch. A white picket fence surrounded the perimeter, pink flamingos adorned the front and a bright neon sign perched on top. Inside though was another story. The service area spanned 2/3 of the trailer but had all the fixings that a barista needs. Seats were available as well as outdoors. I'd hungrily eyed the chocolate muffins and the waft of freshly-made coffee. This is what I wanted. NOW! I had their nicely blended coffee and that warm muffin - it just made my morning. read more

Today, not so good. Used to be my favorite stopping place heading out of town. Ordered 2 Bkft burritos & they only had one. Not as good as I remembered, pretty basic. My husband and I just returned home from a long road trip out west, and this is one of our favorite random stops we made. What caught our eye was their sign by the road that said "Second best coffee in the Southwest." We looked over and saw the cute Airstream set up. We talked about how we appreciated the honesty of the sign, then we laughed, then we said we had to go back. So we literally made a U-turn on the highway and made our way back to the silver Airstream. The 2 ladies that were running the shop were so friendly. We enjoyed talking to them while they prepared our coffee. (They also have a drive through, but I am glad we took the time to go inside.) We both ordered mocha lattes, and they suggested adding coconut syrup to them. That was such a good decision! I also noticed that they used Ghirardelli chocolate syrup in the coffee. Our drinks were DELCIOUS!!!! Sadly for us, this was just a stop on our way from Grand Junction to Four Corners, so it wouldn't be along our path to anywhere else. Stopped here on the way out of Telluride for some mid-ride pick me up. we did not get anything to drink here but grabbed some food to eat. Fine wanted the burrito minus the green chili but they couldn't do it because the burritos were already pre-made. I decided to go with the burrito and it was just a bland ball of mush with little taste and a texture that was very difficult to get through. Will maybe give their drinks a chance next time around but will skip the food. read more

We are always supportive of local, but today disappointed. We came for breakfast burritos which were mediocre at best to start with then when they were cold in the middle, we stopped eating them. We thought it'd be a nice place to enjoy our morning but that was a joke. The lady working has no respect for her customers and doesn't know how to communicate let alone make an americano. She started slamming bottles on the counter for me to see. So I left and my bf ordered. She didn't even let him finish our order, she just started making it as soon as one word came out. She made my bfs Americano wrong, and it was evident she didn't like me cuz my drink was a dirty chai and she gave me plain espresso with water in one cup and milk and chai in another. While on a wonderful vacation voyage of the "Grand Circle" (look it up), we were driving on from Mesa Verde toward Four Corners and Monument Valley one morning, and I was jones-ing for a good cup of coffee as we passed through Cortez, CO. My wife says: "will a gas station cup do?" Me: "No!" Just then, out of nowhere, miraculously, we spot this old, retro-style Airstream trailer parked off the street/highway, with a cool neon sign above, depicting a steaming coffee cup and "Silver Bean". I swing the Jeep in to the parking- not even realizing there was also a drive-through feature, and we walk into the little courtyard and into the Airstream trailer. I was thrilled to have exactly what I was looking for--an opportunity for a great quality cup of joe, in a very unique and cool setting. The barista was extremely friendly and accomodating. The coffee was great. What a pleasure and a local treasure--the Silver Bean experience is one not to miss if you are lucky enough to be traveling or live in southwest Colorado. My family first visited the Silver Bean when I was a kid. I was immediately drawn to the chrome airstream, the pink flamingos and the entire retro vibe. The image of the Silver Bean stuck in my mind for years. Then, almost 15 years later, I had an opportunity to visit Cortez again and I was thrilled to still see the Silver Bean alive and well. There is a reason why this outdoor and drive through espresso airstream cafe consistently gets five stars is that it is fantastic. This airstream has been serving the community for 17 years and the recently new owners are continuing the excellent reputation it has. Our Americano's were perfect, with a delicious apple muffin on the side. Sitting outside under the umbrellas on a sunny afternoon, what could be better? Not sure if it was just a bad day for the workers or what. I was visiting the area for Mesa Verde National Park and my boyfriend and I stopped by for coffee while we waited for our breakfast at a different spot. When we got to the spot it was confusing...do we order in person or do we only order through drive thru? I tried asking for help but no one greeted us. I stepped into the airstream to ask and was told only one customer could be inside at a time (Covid but there were no signs posted anywhere of what to do). So I waited outdoors for prob 4-5 mins. When I finally stepped in to order the workers were really short with me. Terrible customer service and just really awkwardly quiet! I got my drinks and said, "Have a great day ladies!" And suddenly they were extremely friendly back... really strange. I wouldn't recommend stopping here unless you really really really want to try something local from an airstream. We really wanted to love this place. Super cute airstream and really nice people. We ordered two coffees and two breakfast burritos through the drive-through a few weeks ago and were super disappointed. Actually, beyond disappointed really- the breakfast burritos were almost uneatable ... we really aren't even that picky! They were super soggy & terrible texture of the eggs inside- it was if they put all of the ingredients in a blender before putting it in the burrito... but the worst part was the sogginess and the flavor as a whole was terrible. Don't get the breakfast burrito!!! The coffee also tasted super burnt! We spent way too much money for a breakfast we decided was the worst we have had in over a year of traveling across the country. The only reason we stopped at this spot was due to the good Yelp reviews- pretty much they only time so far in a year Yelp lead us astray. Great place to stop for a cup of coffee!! We drove thru the drive-up window with a few cars in front of us. One of the staff saw us waiting in line, opened the window on the back side of the Silver Bean and asked us what we wanted. She then walked my coffee out to the car - and gave it to us free because she was concerned that we had had to wait too long. I would rate the coffee as A+ and customer service as A+++.
