Excellent, excellent coffee and treat shop! Staff was super friendly and patient with me as I decided what to order. I ended up deciding on vanilla cold brew - nice and strong in the best way possible. Their bagels are a little bit denser than I am used to, but still delicious. And last, the lemon tart was amazing. Intense lemon flavors so you have to be down for that, but if you are it was incredible. Super comfortable place to lounge around for a few hours and wile away an afternoon. What an unexpected find. I had a bagel as close to New York as I've ever had outside the city. I ordered a dozen to take back to Albuquerque with us. They prefer 2 or 3 days notice for a bagel order. Cortez is lucky to have this place and I was lucky to find it! I needed to work a little while in Cortez and found this hidden gem! I ordered a spiced chai, served cold, loved it and a piece of peach pie. They had other baked goods as well, quiche and coffee too! There is one small table outside, it was warm this day, I sat outside for awhile and then moved to a table inside...there was a constant customer flow, love to see that and I can't wait to go back for another visit! read more

On mid-July 201&, my husband and I drove through Cortez on our way to Four Corners. I love baked goods so went on Yelp to find a good bakery. The Pie Maker had 4 and 5 star reviews, so I definitely had to try it. The woman behind the counter was very friendly and answered all my questions. There was a man (I believe the owner), also behind the counter, who was not friendly at all. I bought slices of bourbon pecan pies and tart lemon pie, and singles of apple pie. The bourbon pecan pies were absolutely delicious! Both the lemon and applies pies were ok, I've tasted better. When I saw the bagels, I asked to buy two as singles, not as sandwiches. The unfriendly man behind the counter rudely said that they do not usually sell the bagels individually as posted on their door. Oops...my bad! I did not mean to be stupid!! Anyway, he sold me the two I asked for, but I ended up throwing them out because they were not good at all. They were HARD and TASTELESS. I gave The Pie Maker 2 stars because of the friendly service I received from the woman. If not for her, I would've given it a 1 star because of the rude owner. Their baked goods are not as good as described. You can buy them somewhere better or at a place that has a nice and friendly owner. read more

My grandmother went to The Pie Maker yesterday for some treats for a not so happy gathering for our family and while she was checking out. She made a remake about how it was a little expensive, mid way through her transaction, the guy gives her card back to her and tells her he can sell it someone else. I understand employees are people too and have bad days just like everyone else but that is no way to act or talk to paying customers. Very disrespectful. I am very disappointed especially after seeing all the great reviews on here about them. I told her not to go back but she is a very kind hearted forgiving lady but my family and I will never be back. read more

Don't waste your time or money. We were looking forward to trying this little shop during our stay to visit Mesa Verde National Park but the scones were hard, dry and crumbly. The water for the tea was not hot enough. Such a disappointment! Wouldn't recommend to anyone visiting the area. read more

I am a connoisseur of baked goods. I was delighted to learn a bakery is right here in Cortez! Until I am shunned by the lady behind the counter showed such rude behavior toward me. I spent 20+$$ in there and I told here to keep the change from 30 bucks. An 8$ tip and FINALLY got a half smile with a softer spoken voice. The next trip back in, same grump same unkind behavior making one lose the desire for their baked goods. If those goods are prepared with the negative rude attitude I get purchasing them....then clearly that negative vibe is baked in and enters my aura with ingesting the goods. The products sold are pricey and that's fine because they are worthy. However being disrespected made to feel unwelcome makes the pie maker worse than I expected. Ate breakfast here 3/20/18 and it was really good. Had a couple muffins- banana chocolate chip and carrot cake; 2 pieces of Dutch Apple pie; The Farmer bagel and The Fisherman bagel. The bagels were really tasty, crunchy on the outside soft and chewy on the inside. The crumble on the pie was spot on and the miffins were quite tasty as well. I adore the owners of this little ma and pa operation, Shani and Tim. They're splendid people and they make damn good food. I am enjoying my day off with a frothy honey-tinged nitro cold-brew coffee, a chocolate ganache stuffed cupcake with peppermint buttercream frosting, and my favorite sandwich... The Fisherman: homemade jalapeno cheddar bagel with homemade Hatch green chili cream cheese, thinly sliced Alaskan salmon, capers, local onions, local tomatoes and local spinach. Deeee-liscious! The closest thing to Grandma's kitchen to be found in Cortez. No matter what you choose you can't go wrong. The service is warm and courteous, the selections wide and varied. The hours are abbreviated so don't tarry to get there to select your goodies for the day. When we move on we'll be taking some of that granola with us. read more

Very pricey. Staff is not pleasant, like they are doing you a favor, very flippant. I was looking at the cup cakes and didn't notice the little sign with all the flavors, when I asked what the flavors were I was told "it says what they are on the sign". I should have walked out then. I live in Cortez and won't visit that bakery? again. Horrible. Funky taste in the cookies and the bagels are tasteless and hard. They may think their bagel sandwiches are delicious but they are definitely NOT and over priced. Most unfriendly staff I have come across. I've seen kids at lemonade stands offer better. read more

I had been a customer at the Cortez Farmer's Market and was elated when they opened up a store front for their bakery. This place is one of the things I miss about living in Cortez, CO. The Pie Maker and her husband are super people and have wonderful staff on hand to provide terrific customer service. You can't go wrong with anything here - gluten free muffins are moist and delicious, the scones are on point, the fruit pies are clearly made with love, and don't get me started on the marvelous hand pies! Then there are the cupcakes and cookies - (I'm getting hungry) and bagel sandwiches...seriously, like I said, you can't go wrong here. Not only are the edible options fantastic, but the fact that they locally source as much of their ingredients as possible and also focus on organic ingredients when possible - made this place a highlight to living in the area.
