We've been a customer for the last few years and recently they have been very poor with their appointment making. We called and made an appointment for our dog to have her nails trimmed and when I arrived I was told that no appointment existed and made to feel as if it was our problem. I wasn't very happy since I drove there and informed them of such. Their response: I don't know what to tell you. Not: geeze I am sorry about that let me see if I can work you in quickly. Fast forward three months. We made an appointment for the same dog who had an ear problem and wasn't feeling well. I arrived on time and was told that no appointment existed. AGAIN. Now, we are not crazy and understand how to put an appointment on our calendar. These folks are incompetent and could care less about doing a proper job for their employer and for the customer. The response this time: I don't see any appointments on here for you not today, next week, nowhere. If you'd like to sit over there we can try to get you in but we have appointments all afternoon so it may be a few hours. Obviously, after two times,I left and will never return. Whomever is in charge there should look into the appointment setter or their software. Because it ain't working. Their lack of competence and empathy when this is clearly their fault and problem gives me pause and I question their competence in all other areas now too. This was mine and my husband's first vet visit with our 3 year old adopted pitbull Poppy, and we were ever so nervous for how she was going to handle being around other animals in a confined space, how she would tolerate being approached by strangers abruptly, and going with the Vet into have tests done. Missed several significant findings on my dog. I specifically brought him in for a dental exam and was told that his findings were normal. I took him to another vet and they found a fractured tooth and two other teeth that were rotten and needed extraction. The new vet also noted that he had a murmur and on further exam determined that he has congestive heart failure and needs to be on medications. The veterinarian at Silver Bluff missed this heart murmur for an untold amount of time. Thank goodness I took him to another vet. Additionally, the office staff is always curt and seems too rushed to be of use when calling for information or appointments. read more

I called because my dog had a seizure. First time and I was scared. I called them vs my vet because I just moved and they are closer. Lady answers the phone asks me if I can hold, I tell her it was an emergency and she put me on hold anyway wtf??? Who does that? Apparently she doesn't understand what an emergency is or doesn't care. Thankfully my dog pulled out of the seizure ok and I was able to call my vet who's receptionist was able to answer all my questions and put my mind at ease, this place didn't even try to help! I mean even if you're only in the business for the money that's not how you get it! I definitely won't be giving them my business! Also, strongly recommend others to go elsewhere as I now know there are plenty other options in Aiken, one of them must actually care about animals! read more

He was very attentive and told us what was needed to improve our dogs lifestyle which included dental cleaning for one and a couple of pounds to lose for another. I went one week ago with my dog for the routine vaccinations. The doctor was ok, not very friendly but i can't pretend this. After pay almost 200 dollars I went home. Nobody told me to watch the dog to check strange reactions. A couple of day later I noticed a bump on the site of the injection, yesterday the bump was bigger and today bigger than yesterday. I come back to the clinic, the lady at the desk told me to wait. She spoke with the doctor (the same that did the vaccine), when she was back to me and she told me to make an appointment to check the dog, at the moment the doctor, that was sitting in front of me doing nothing and chatting with other people of the staff did not have time. She passed in front of me and she did not even take a look. Change job blondie lady! At that moment In the clinic there was only me and my dog... At the end they care only about money!!! The staff are so kind at Silver Bluff Animal Hospital. We took our dog there initially for his needed rabies vaccine. Plus, he got a good physical while there. Also, they were able to see my pup (almost 10) on short notice when he got sick and were able to help him feel better-now he is on the road to recovery. Their hours are very convenient, and they always seem to answer the phone! Ample parking, convenient location. They clearly really care about animals and I am thankful to have them as our vet for our little dog. read more

The receptionist Kathy is not fit to work for a mortuary, much less a vet. After calling Friday morning, as my baby had a seizure and was failing quickly, I was told I could have an appointment on Monday!!! I was also told to please advise if I did not need this appointment Monday morning!!! Pete passed away on Saturday! I will never use, suggest, or imply this is a decent vet. Was very pleased with the care we received here until just recently. Refused to see my dog because "they were closing in 10 minutes". Im sorry but sign says open until 11 and I was there little BEFORE 1050. Just FYI their sign says they close at 11 when really it's apparently 1045...just saying. Awful customer service today. We recently moved to Aiken and had to find a new Vet. I loved our Vet in Greenville and was worried about finding someone else who lived up to those standards. This place did not make me feel any better. Before I go any farther, in order to choose our new Vet, I asked everyone I knew in Aiken with a pet who their Vet was. I asked a whole other list of questions and based on that I chose Silver Bluff. Mistake. I called and set up a yearly appointment for my dog. I had no problem getting an appointment. The girl I spoke with was very helpful and friendly. I felt great when I got off the phone. The next week it became clear that we were going to need to go in to have my dog's anal gland expressed. It was not going to be able to wait for our April appointment. So I called and asked if I could bring him in. They told me yes - but that I would need an appointment. ( I never had to make an appointment for this with my old vet. I would call take him in and they would do it. It only takes about 30 seconds- a Vet Tech does it.) So, I made an appointment for early that afternoon. I took him in, arriving 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork . Then we waited, and waited and waited. they took everyone who came in after me, they were not apologetic for my wait, etc. We waited almost an hour. FINALLY a Vet Tech called us back and did the deed. It took 30 seconds. I went to checkout and nearly passed out. They had Charged me $17.50 to have the anal gland expressed. That is ROBBERY! I paid 9 dollars at my old Vet. I told them that they had just charged me almost double what I was use to paying and it was outrageous. The girls at the desk just looked at me. $17.50 for an anal gland expression? I bet they charge a fortune to actually see the Vet!! Needless to say I got a new recommendation for another Vet in Aiken and I am hoping to call and make a yearly checkup appointment and have a better experience. read more

RUN!!! They don't care about your animal, just your money. My 14-yr. old dog suddenly became sick. We were able to get an appointment that afternoon and showed up 2 hours before closing. We met with Dr. Crowder. She did a test and informed us that our dog had HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis). She gave or dog fluids and anti-nausea meds in the office and prescribed an antibiotic, anti-diarrhea, and more anti-nausea meds. Dr. Crowder told us if our dog wasn't showing signs of improvement, we could bring her back in the morning to be euthanized. Our dog continued to bleed in the office, so Dr. Crowder gave her more fluids. While giving our dog more fluids, our dog began bleeding out just as fast as the fluids were being administered. I told Dr. Crowder I wasn't OK with this and that my dog wasn't OK with it either. We respectfully requested to speak with Dr. Ray, who has always been our dogs' primary vet for the last 14 years. Dr. Crowder left the room and came back a few minutes later and advised us that Dr. Ray was busy bathing her dogs, but that she concurred with the course of treatment. From the amount of blood that was on the floor, I find it hard to believe that Dr. Ray would have concurred with the treatment plan. Dr. Crowder said that we couldn't leave our dog overnight to continue to receive fluids because no one would be there. Instead of euthanizing our poor baby so she didn't have to suffer, we were sent home with a few hundred dollars' worth of meds, all because they were closing soon. We took our baby home, tried to give her the meds, but were unsuccessful. Our poor baby bled to death. We contacted Greener Pastures (highly recommend) to assist us with the removal and cremation of our poor baby. After that, I went to Silver Bluff Animal Hospital to speak with Dr. Ray directly. I also requested to return the meds that were unused and un-opened. The lady at the desk (mid-length brown hair) said that they could give me a credit. I did not want a credit, as I would not be needing their services any longer. We decided to ask for the credit anyway so that we could refill medications for our other dog when she needed a refill. I was asked to come back Monday. I also requested my other pets' medical records. She said they were short staffed and that I could get the records on Monday and speak with the office manager. I told her I would be back then. I decided to leave a message for Dr. Ray to please call me, that I only needed 5 minutes of her time. I have yet to receive a call. Its been a week. I did not go back there on Monday as planned because sadly, our other dog started having the same symptoms for HGE on Monday morning. A few hours later, I took my other baby to Aiken Veterinary Clinic and had her euthanized because there was no way I was going to let her bleed to death like our other dog. It only takes minutes to euthanize a dog so as you can imagine, I am FURIOUS that my baby had to suffer the way that she did. I am upset that a place that I've been taking our dogs to for 14 years would treat us so poorly. How can you allow someone who is supposed to care for pets be so cruel and heartless? read more

We have taken all of our Babies to Silver Bluff since we moved here from Rochester, NY, May 2000. We have adopted, fostered many, many kittens, puppies, hamster, ferret, etc. Dr. Hurd and his staff have been so accommodating and professional. Costs of pet care are reasonable and competitive with Aiken Veterinarians. The office staff are patient and calm ,even when I came screaming in with the little love of my life, he had to be euthanized, I thought I would lose my mind, they were gentle and respectful, caring for my Baby right up until his last breath. read more

I love this vet! There are several vets who are closer, but I rather go here over all of them. Awhile back my dog stopped eating and I knew exactly what was wrong. I knew she had parvovirus. I tried every vet in North Augusta and no one would see her without an appointment! I was panicking and started trying vets in Aiken. They took her in even though they were packed! They even clean the spot she sat in immediately, and took her to an isolated room. They were reasonably priced too! My dog is alive and well thanks to this place! read more

Dr John Hurd is a truly, compassionate, caring vet that wants the absolute best for his patients. We are new to the area and went to him on the recommendation of someone we met. He performed surgery on our 15 yr old dog which we had been hesitant to do for several reasons. Our dog has a much better quality of life and I am so grateful to Dr Hurd for the compassion he showed. No vet in AIken is cheap (would you really want that anyhow?). I have no problem with Silver Bluff (and I have seen other vets in town). Their office hours are extremely friendly for working folks, and they are always eager to accommodate our schedule. We have both a cat and a dog, and they are both well cared for at Silver Bluff. Silver Bluff has even helped us with several stray and/or injured animals we have taken to them. read more

Coming from a Vet Student- I've been here twice and come to the conclusion that the female vet has absolutely no idea what she is talking about. Very ignorant in her treatments and extremely judgmental. My family has volunteered at kitten rescues for over 25 years, and the women claimed my mother fed the kitten wrong and wanted my mother to sign it into her custody. The vet has never raised a kitten and I assure you the feeding was not the problem, as I work at another vet clinic out of town and brought home some dewormer that fixed the problem in days. She didn't even take the time to do an accurate fecal but she sure did charge her for it. Extremely incompitent in her advice, as well as inaccurate and exagerates issues. If you don't want to be told that all of your animals problems are your fault based on care when really they are medical and if you dont want to have issues that are exaggerated (as it was with my dog) then go elsewhere!!!!!!!! read more
