Let me preface this by stating there is no sad ending or anything of the sort in this review. I know seeing the word "hospital" in conjunction with animals can be a set up for deep, deep heartbreak. But this is not that. I want to share about the consistent care Highland has always provided. We have three furry family members, and seven total over the past 7 years*. Highland has seen them all. *It's worth mentioning that we cared for a few hospice and elderly dogs at the beginning. You can usually get an appointment within a week, but if it's an emergency they will squeeze you in. They also care for other animals. I've seen cats, birds, and ferrets in that lobby. My crew has had annual check ups, teeth cleaned, teeth removed, anal glands expressed here. I appreicate their love for our furry family and recommend them to others. read more

Dr. Phil Iverson has been caring for my cats now for almost 30 years - all 4 of them. Three have passed away at over the age of 10 years old, 2 from kidney disease. My current cat is also under his care and I can tell you from this many years of experience, he really cares about his pet patients. The staff is wonderful and caring and Katie gets lots of love on her visits. She is now 15+, with chronic kidney disease and blindness. She just spent 3 days in the hospital and the care she received while there was excellent. Her last labs before discharge were much improved from her intake labs. My first experience was fabulous. I loved the doctor and all of the nurses that attended to my two labs. One pup was spaded. They were given exams, got up to date on shoots. I was pleased as punch. That was a year ago. Went on line this year to make them an appointment. My daughter comes from Columbia to help me because I can no longer pick them up. Get to the appointment and WOW. One female kept interrupting me while I talked to another female. Could not find my appointment and all but verbally called me a liar. I live in Thomson, my daughter Columbia. This was not a quick trip for either one of us. I was treaded rudely. I explained to this woman how rude and unkind she had been. Quietly left and have found a wonderful Vet to take my babies to. NEVER would I go back and be talked to or be treated so rudely. read more

The check in process was a little slow. I had a grooming appt at 8:30 and the lady handed me Forms and then made me fill them out, while letting the lady behind me just tell her the info to type in the computer... rude. The groomer, Steven was awesome. He was very nice and he did a great job grooming my kitty! I would definitely recommend him. I wanted her shaved like a lion since she gets really bad mats in her hair. read more

Communicative staff. I have no complaints at all! Switched to this vet because they're much closer to my home and I'm happy I did!

Staff is very friendly. A couple times I have called with, not a life threatening emergency, but enough to make my yorkiepoo miserable and they immediately worked her in. They are always very informative with the treatments they are giving. read more

Highland Animal Hospital provides quality, empathetic and fairly priced care for your pet. I couldn't afford to take my cat to an emergency veterinarian to make sure she was ok, especially if surgery was needed. Highland Animal Hospital was the only vet who, despite being completely booked and taking extra safety precautions during this COVID pandemic, agreed to accept me as a walk in to run some blood work and give some symptom management care. Obviously because I did not have an appointment, I had to wait a little bit longer, but I am so glad I did. After the initial symptomatic care didn't prove to be enough to resolve the issue, they took me in the next morning despite being completed booked once again. They communicated with me effectively, gave me all my options, and made sure to try the least invasive options first before much bigger and riskier interventions, while keeping in mind the importance of time. Because I brought her in so early and Highland Animal Hospital treated her so quickly, she thankfully shouldn't need surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. They answered all my questions and gave me all the additional information I asked for in case I need to bring her to the emergency vet over the weekend. I am so grateful to Mr. Bain and all the staff at Highland Animal Hospital who helped my senior kit-cat (apparently 7 is senior for cats). I also want to mention that not only do they offer empathetic and quality care, the bill was about half the cost of what my vet in Gwinnett county would have charged. You can tell the well-being of the animals are priority here and I appreciated hearing staff laughing, working well together, and loving on the non-emergency visiting pets. It definitely helped calm me down while stressing over my cat's medical treatment. Once my cat and I recover (she medically and me financially), we will definitely be visiting Highland Animal Hospital for more routine visits. read more

I had to take my cat, James, in for an emergency visit this morning. He had a series of vaccines yesterday and became lethargic last night. Wouldn't eat or drink. His veterinarian was closed. Highland Animal Hospital got him in this morning. The assessed him, gave him IV fluids and medication. He is 90% back to new after 3 hours. Dr. Kalyn White and her staff are amazing. I highly recommend this place. read more

I had an excellent experience on the 1st visit to HAH. When I arrived, the staff was working with another client, which gave me time to bring in our 3 cats. I was checked in for our appointment and then Rachael came to take us to an exam room. She was friendly and helpful... I was trying to juggle 3 carriers and she jumped in to help me. I went over the concerns I had with each of our cats. She took note of them all and went back to talk with Dr. Ivey. Dr. Ivey came in; she and Rachael did exams on each cat. They discovered Carlos had a lot of fleas from getting outside our house. They treated all the cats for fleas and did blood tests on them all. All the cats got their annual vaccinations. Dr. Ivey explained everything they were doing as well as why it was done. It was great to understand what was happening. They were very careful handling our cats and in making sure I understood what was happening. They explained how to manage the flea problem at home and how to administer the medications prescribed for each cat. When I checked out, the staff helped me get the cats back to my car. I highly recommend HAH. The staff are terrific and their care is first rate! read more

We were new patients, and the experience was quite pleasant. I had no trouble scheduling an appointment for a day and time that worked for me. I was given an estimate of my cost when I made the appointment. ( Routine yearly check up- plus anal gland expression) I printed and filled out the required paperwork from the website before the appointment. Hello! Much easier than trying to wrangle a dog and fill out paperwork on site. Always the Girl Scout, I took my dog's records so we would all know exactly shots he needed. The appointment was at 2pm, and we were taken back right away. The tech came in to meet us and do a pre check before the Vet came in. We saw Dr. Greene. I liked all the staff and Dr. Greene. They were great with my dog, didn't rush us, and listened to what I had to say. The price was fair, staff was great, we will go back! read more

Called them after my dog had a run in with a bat. was worried about rabies. they said on the phone that i couldnt bring her in. cause of possible rabies. ridiculous. They even said that i couldn't bring her in untill after quarantining her for 6 months. but isnt that too long to wait for such a disease??? would not reccomend based on this experience. read more

Worst. Waited 30 minutes past my appointment time to be sent to a freezing cold exam room. Waited OVER AN HOUR to see the Doctor. The vet did not bother to read my dog's chart or notes from the emergency vet. I had to answer a dozen questions that were asked by the vet tech and were clearly in the notes. He barely examined my dog (who was there for a second opinion/follow up.) I'm not one for confrontation so I didn't demand better service... I shouldn't have to... (I wrote this post but did not post it over a month ago... below is what has happened since) The only thing I can say about this vet is that they are purely negligent. Our dog was suffering from a painful spinal infection that needed antibiotics but they were treating him for a slipped disk with steroids (making it worse!) Now I understand that spinal issues in dogs are very tricky... but when my dog showed absolutely no signs of improvement over a month later they simply pumped him up with more and more drugs. They never asked to see him again, never suggested tests or xrays, just drugs, drugs, drugs- that did NOT work. When I took my dog (in desperation) to another vet they IMMEDIATELY pursued other diagnosis including his OBVIOUS wind up pain issues. WIND UP PAIN. My dog suffered so long and needlessly because of their utter lack of interest or care. He is STILL suffering from life altering muscle atrophy and spine issues because it was not treated properly in time. We are on a long and expensive road to recovery but I cant help but feeling most of it could be avoided. It is unfortunate that nothing can be done about this horrible vet. Dogs are still viewed as property and not as loving members of a family. read more

I think this is the only vet in the CSRA that works with exotic small animals. I had three rats and two guinea pigs who only ever came to this vet and I was always really impressed. I will admit the prices were high ($200 to neuter a guinea pig!) but the staff and vet were so nice. Whenever one of my babies passed away or had to be euthanized, I received a sympathy card in the mail 3-4 days later. THAT is customer service. read more

This animal hospital has a rude and no care attitude staff. I brought my service dog there, it was very obvious that she was extremely sick. They wouldn't even look at her even though the vet at the ER at BluePearl Animal Hospital told me the day before to take her there. After explaining everything going on to one of their vet, I was still turned away. This is an animal hospital and their Facebook page says they take walk-ins. After going to a different animal hospital I was informed that my dog was in grave condition and may not make it. Four days later and she's slowly recovering and will hopefully fully recover. I would advise anyone looking for a good vet to keep looking. read more

I like this vet but they are so painfully slow. Takes forever to get called back, takes forever to be seen after you're in your room. I showed up for a 10:30am appointment and didn't leave until almost 12:30. I was almost late for work at 1pm. One of the vet techs got irritated that my dog wouldn't sit still for an injection. It's a needle.... my dog doesn't know what you're doing with that sharp object or why! Of course she's going to move. My dog wasn't even freaking out she would just move her leg every time the needle touched her fur which I feel is natural for a dog. But the vet tech got irritated with her. So that one vet tech and the wait times are my issues with this office. read more

The doctors and staff here are excellent and most have worked there many years. I first visited when I found teeny tiny baby squirrels in my backyard and momma squirrel did not come get them. They are the only place in town that takes care of all kinds of animals. They took great care of my 2 dogs and the seven cats we have now. Corwin is diabetic and got very sick, we thought we would have to put him down but Dr. Walker said, give it the weekend...and he's fully recovered now! There is always a wait on the phone and in waiting area because they are so busy. Bring a magazine. read more

we came here to let our cat go. sad to say that the staff has no coordination with each other at all. asked me more than 4 times for the same question. it's good that I requested for some of her hair be cut for safekeeping otherwise they'll probably forgot it. I was also surprised that the ashes came back so quickly but the paw print came so Loooong saying that it's not dry yet. when it's finally given to us, it's cracked and in a very bad condition. now it makes me think if it's really our cat's ashes and paw print at all. DON'T go to this place if you're expecting quality coz you won't get it. read more

We had a dog run into our home while moving into the Augusta area. I had no idea where anything was, but had luckily noticed Highland on my way home one day, so I started taking the stray there and was very lucky I did. He was a mess. He had heart worms, fleas, seizures, and needed a lot of help. The staff was always welcoming, kind, and professional. I felt that the prices for his care were very reasonable, especially considering that we had to work very hard with Highland to get him healthy. Two weeks after we adopted him, he took a turn for the worse. I found him lifeless on the floor with stuff coming out of both ends. I think he was dying. I wrapped him in a towel and drove to Highland, even though I knew it was everyone's lunch hour and most likely I wouldn't get to see a doctor for another hour or two. As soon as I walked in the door with him in my arms (I was a sobbing mess), the receptionist wished me into an examination room and Dr. Walker happened to be taking his lunch at the office that day. He came in, carefully examined Buddy and scooped him up to take him to the back and start some IV fluids on him. Buddy spent the weekend there and it was up in the air if he was going to make it. Dr. Walker suspected an inflamed pancreas, probably a reaction from eating such poor food and having such poor health for long as a stray. Buddy made it through the weekend and 4 years later is still with us and a blessing to our lives. Dr. Walker was a wonderful doctor and I believe that his expertise and the quality care at Highland saved Buddy's life that weekend. Since then, I had many appointments with Dr. Iverson who was always friendly and professional as well. We have since moved away from Augusta but if we ever live in the area again, I know which vet our pets will be going to. I can't thank them enough for saving Buddy's life and giving us the gift of transforming a mangy stray into a beloved family pet. read more

The vets are all very friendly and my dogs have had good experience with them. I also board my dogs here when I go out of town. The dogs seem to be happy when I pick them up. Everyone in the office is very nice, BUT drop off before and pick up after boarding is SOOOOO SLOOOWWWW. I've boarded my dogs at our various vets wherever we've lived and each process has never taken more than 5 minutes in and out. But here, it has taken 30 minutes or longer, even if I get there right as they open to drop off, which can be very frustrating when you're trying to get out of town or ready to be home after a trip. Maybe a quick form to fill out when dropping off, rather than standing at the desk to answer said questions could expedite the process. read more

The people here are super friendly, and clearly enjoy their jobs. They love to interact with the animals, and are happy to answer any and all of your questions. My pets were clearly well taken care of, and they seemed comfortable, which says a lot because of how they normally act when going to the vet. The doctor even let me bring in 3 pets at one time so I could get all of their shots done together (2 ferrets and 1 kitten). The only thing I thought seemed a little strange was that the exam price was more expensive than the shot prices, but all in all the total cost was fair. I'll be switching to this vet from my original one because they actually take care of exotic animal breeds (ferrets)-which not many vets do in this area-and they are closer to my home. read more

this was my first & last visit here. i just moved to augusta and needed to take my new kitten to get his shots and a dewormer, i had a 2pm "appointment" but wasn't seen or acknowledged till 3:20... i get into the room and the tech asked what was wrong i told her i needed a deworming and his first shots i asked her how much will this be she says i'll be back with your estimate, she comes back in with a list of things i didn't ask for or talk about with her on the paper saying this is your total i said whoa whoa is all these things she goes over it i told her what i didn't want done because it wasn't what we talked about... fine the doctor and her come back in together and i ask so this is all were doing i don't want all these extra thing y'all are trying to charge me and the doctor is rolling her eyes just trying to get me out the room doesn't care to go over anything with me just shoots the needle in my cat and says okay here your good to go and hands me my cats medicine. never does she go over how i administer the medication or anything just leave the room... i go up front to pay i put my card in and i said can i just get a copy of what i'm being charged for as the money is pulled from my account i get handed the paper that says one of the vaccines i didn't give my cat that i was charged for after we went over it 2 times that i didn't want it. this place has terrible communication skills, & is straight up rude & slow even if u make appointments. absolutely terrible experience. never again. i don't recommend taking ur pets here read more

They always take excellent care of my dogs here. I have two and every time we come in they treat them wonderful, are happy to see them, and give them excellent care. I've called in before to request an appointment and if it's something I'm pretty concerned about, they fit me in even if the schedule is full. read more

Love the staff at HAH and my experiences at the facility has always been exceptional. I live in Evans, Ga and make the 30 minute drive because of the care my pets get. I have only one complaint - When I call the office I am always asked if they can put on hold immediately upon answering. Because it isn't an emergency I agree and end up being on hold for long periods of time(today i was on hold for over 13 minutes) sometimes I will hang up and call back. This is ridiculous, if the front desk is that busy please hire someone to help with the phones. read more

This was my 1st time here & my last!!! Customer service is apparently NOT a huge priority here at all. I was given the wrong hours of closing, an incomplete prescription that my pharmacy wouldn't fill due to missing information. When I called to let the staff know what the pharmacy told me, I was rudely interrupted before I could tell the lady everything she needed to know, I was told that a new prescription (any prescription at all) CANNOT be called in due to that's hospital policy and that I'd have to come back to get a new prescription. When trying to explain I wasn't able to do that due to I was on my way out of town (which I made known to the Vet & the staff while I was there & again today on the phone that I was leaving town on a trip). With some back and forth of voicing my concerns with the lady about my sick pet I urged them to contact the pharmacy in the town I'm headed to so that my sick pet won't have to suffer while I'm out of town. So FINALLY after a lot of ridiculousness on their part & nothing but attitude from two staff members I had to deal with just to get their mistake corrected she finally called and talked to the pharmacy. I just pray when I get there I won't have any problems getting the prescription filled! I will NOT BE GOING BACK THERE!!! Nor will I ever recommend them to anyone!!! read more

The office staff office manager and a little old woman who works in the back were rude and obnoxious to other employees, gossiping about each other. We rescued a kitten. Our landlord said we had to get him declawed in order to keep him. After we got it done, we realized he was nursing his right paw. We got him reassessed after we moved up to Maine and the vet up here took x-rays and said that whomever performed the surgery at highland animal hospital had botched up the surgery so badly that they left multiple bone fragments in both paws. When I called to speak to the someone in the office, the lady said that if I hadn't gotten the cat declawed that there wouldn't be a problem. My brother is a veterinary surgeon and he said that declawing is a basic procedure. This person screwed up a basic procedure. I don't know which vet at the hospital did the surgery, but even if I lived in the area, between the botched up declaw and the way the lady handled the conversation on the phone, I would never recommend or take my animals back there. Update: The hospital said they would have a vet call me back yesterday to discuss the situation. No one called. read more

Do not take your animals here. Dr. Walker rushed my annual appointment with my dog. Also, my dog somehow cut her foot pad. Her paw became swollen and red. After $75 X-rays to check for broken bones, she was sent home with the same limp she came in with. His recommendation was to give it a few days with ice and dog pain killers. (Probably just dog treats) Might I add, the pill bottle was dirty and looked as if it had been used before. Back to the foot: Upon further inspection, I found the cut. It wasn't until I placed her foot in a peroxide, epsom salt, and Betadine bath was it noticeable. I feel with the $75 charge plus the vet fee, this problem should have been noticed and solved then. read more

I have been taking my cocker spaniel to Highland for years , where he loves Dr. Green. The staff is cheerful and genuinely caring toward pets and owners. Today, Saturday, I took my dog in without an appointment. After a sleepless night worrying, by the time I got to the receptionist, I was in tears and not coherent. She called for a tech immediately and we were put in an exam room. I didn't mind the wait. I needed time to decompress. I was so worried about my best friend. Dr. Green went right to work when she came in and was so reassuring that my cocker spaniel had not broken his leg. She is always super thorough and made sure the meds he would be given would not damage his liver. She also checked his ears and found they needed attention. The meds blood work and exam came to $185. You can't put a price on peace of mind. Before leaving I was given an appointment for surgery in. Week. My dog will need removal of several small sebaceous gland tumors. I know we will be in good hands. read more
