We found this gem during our visit to West Lafayette and definitely one of the best ice creams we had. The ice creams tasted so fresh and amazing taste. They got more than 30 flavors and lot of items to choose from. They dont offer samples, but the scoops are generous. We can see lot of locals out there. The store is well maintained and clean. The staff is friendly and patient. It is 15 to 20 minutes' drive from Lafayette hotel area but definitely worth the drive. Sufficient parking shared with other shops on this small strip mall. They have indoor and outdoor seating too. Perfect stop for a hot day and grab an ice cream!! Definitely worth trying this spot dont miss out. read more

What a cute little spot with absolutely delicious ice cream and such fair prices. This shop has over 40 flavors and so many sizes and choices to choose from. We decided to stop on a whim and I'm glad we did. It was so good. And it was a perfect day for ice cream since it was about 90 degrees out. They have 20-30 flavors to choose from plus cone, cup, etc. so it's basically endless possibilities. I ended up with a chocolate dipped cone with a scoop of London Fog ice cream. They had plenty of unique flavors and I'd never seen this one anywhere before so I had to try it. It was so delicious. There's seating inside but lots of brightly colored Adirondack chairs outside to choose from. The servers were super friendly and so patient as I walked back and forth at least three times trying to choose a flavor. read more

I loved silver dipper in my high school days, and stopped in last month when I was in West Lafayette with my family. The ice cream is still delicious and it's great they have so much seating available!! Both indoors and out, though we sat inside since it was raining. My only complaint was that they do not offer free samples. As a business decision I get that and it's their prerogative - but please post a sign so children aren't disappointed when they can't try something before choosing. I've been to many other ice cream shops with limits on samples and having a notice of their policy (without the teenagers working having to verbally say this multiple times) would be great. read more

I absolutely love how many flavor options this place has to choose from! I got the halley's comet and it was amazing. Only thing i'd change is I wish they offered samples but understand why some places choose not to. They have some outdoor seating as well which is perfect for a hot summer day. read more

Silver Dipper is one of my favorite spots for ice cream in West Lafayette, as this location is also very convenient. I like that they offer mini scoops so you can try more flavors. They have tons of options and unique flavors which are listed all over the case. I do wish that the ice cream flavors were printed on a menu and posted in a central area or on the menu because it gets a bit chaotic with everyone looking at the ice cream case at the same time. read more

Stopped here for a cool treat on a hot day as I was leaving town. Very cute ice cream shop. The cases were filled with flavors and had so many flavors to choose from. I wish I got a scoop of everything because they all sounded so good. I had the zanzibar ice cream, which is a very dark chocolate ice cream that's made with three types of chocolate, is rich, is creamy, and had a fudgy/thick texture. Yum! It was so good! Local ice cream shop in town that we enjoy visiting. They have a wide selection of flavors as well as some interesting ones that are sorbet's or sugar-free They also have a variety of choices for the ice cream from cups to waffle cones to waffle bowls two chocolate dipped cones chocolate dipped waffle bowls so there are over 1000 possible combinations Every time I come here the staff are young but they are super patient and super friendly and during my first initial visits they were very generous to offer samples as I had never visited them before I would definitely come back here especially because it is a family atmosphere the staff is very kind and I can always find a flavor that suits my mood read more

I love this place and normal it's spot on. Today was a bad experience. I saw a new ice cream and asked for a sample and was told they don't do that by the employee. I thought they did but if they don't, then fine. From that point on the employee seemed put off completely and I'm not sure why. She rolled her eyes at one point and there was a clear tone of sarcasm when I paid. Paying cash seemed to also put her out of sorts. Definitely never had an issue like this before. After an afternoon of visiting the Tippecanoe Battle grounds and Museum with the grand kids (which I highly recommend) we run into a older gentleman riding his bike. He stopped to answer any questions we might have. Said he works at the historic site and it was his day off so just out riding. After explaining a few good facts he asked if we like ice cream, we said a definite "yes" to that. He asked if we liked Graters and Ehrler's and again a definite "yes". He said there is a company close by to take the grandkids to and it's called Silver Dipper. He said it is better than the other 2, in his opinion. He told us the locations of the 2 and suggested the closer one to us, since the other was a bit out of our way back to our home. Got the grandkids on board and surprised them with a stop at Silver Dipper off the Sagamore Parkway W. As we pulled up it was amazing to see so many sitting outside at tables with an umbrella perched on top (as it was a very nice day out). The traffic stream from pull up to entering was quite interesting as it was almost non stop. As we entered, the staff was friendly and warm, everyone with a smile on their face and eager to help us. So we have to acclimate ourselves to all the flavors to decide which each of us wanted and whether to have a dish, cone, waffle or regular. We made our choices and ordered. The scoops were plentiful and looked delicious. We took up a table and enjoyed our treats. I do highly recommend Silver Dipper if your in the area. We noticed as well we were in a college town and many after us were college kids getting in there treats during their off time. It was enjoyable seeing the staff enjoying there jobs. Everyone was upbeat. I recommend the Zanzibar Chocolate, very, very creamy and tasty. Also the mint chip, birthday cake and butter pecan. No one complained of their choice. Hands down best ice cream in Lafayette. I'm from a much bigger city and still this my new fav. Prices are good and don't let the "mini-scoop" fool you. Two of those on a cone is bigger than any medium sized soft serve . Right next to IU medical center, I will have a treat every time I go for a doctor visit. read more

So it is 2015 and the only forms of payment this place takes are cash and checks. Who even carries checks with them anymore? Would it kill you to accept debit or credit card. Suck it up and go to Best Buy and get a square reader to accept payments from the 80% of civilization that doesn't carry cash anymore. As for the ice cream I have no idea what it tastes like because they didn't want my money. read more

This is the "uptown" outpost of a locally owned establishment, with slightly shorter hours, but the same helping of creamy, luscious, melt-in-your-mouth Wisconsin dairy goodness. We're talking serious ice cream here, folks. The selection is really good, with something for anyone, I'd wager. Whether you're a plain vanilla kind of guy, or a heretic who piles everything but the kitchen sink into their mix, Silver Dipper's probably got you covered. There's sherbets, sorbets, fruits (strawberry, cherry, banana), nuts (pistachio, walnut, peanut), even the Blue Moon, which takes just like Froot Loop milk. Yep, ice cream that tastes like the oddly colored milk that remains in your bowl after consuming the aforementioned Loops. My kids love it, go figure. And they even have "No Sugar Added" flavors, so you can bring your friends who need to watch their glycemic intake. But most deserving of special mention is the Zanzibar Chocolate. This bears the same relationship to all previous chocolate ice creams the same way pure vanilla extract trumps those ersatz vanilla flavorings hands-down. Enough talking. Go get some now! This is good, but a little over-hyped locally. It's tasty but far from the best ice cream I've ever had. I had the caramel apple pie (cinnamon ice cream with chunks of apple, shortbread and caramel sauce), which was yummy and unique without being super weird. I wasn't super impressed with their famous Zanzibar chocolate, but I only tried a small sample. It's cash only, which is annoying. read more

This place is highly recommended by locals but I am going to assume they've never been to a real ice cream creamery :) It does not compare, for starters, they don't make the ice cream fresh. They do have many flavors and options. Great ice cream place but I feel like they should charge a little less especially for their serving size (scoop). They also only accept cash when our usual bill is like $20. We would visit more often if they took cards as we never have any cash :) read more

Why was I wasting my time and money at Coldstone and Culvers when this place existed?! I'm mad at myself for not trying Silver Dipper sooner. VERY delicious ice cream and very reasonable prices too. The store was clean and the staff was friendly. They DO take debit/credit now btw. The flavor I ended up getting was "THIS $&@! JUST GOT SERIOUS" and my husband got the "ZANZIMINT", they were both amazing. read more

$4.00 for one scoop of ice cream in a jr. cone. They don't even make the ice cream. The first and last time we will be visiting. Sadly the Lafayette/ West Lafayette area doesn't have any good ice cream / custard shops that are local. Culver's is the best and it isn't local. The menu at Silver Dipper is lacking at best, they don't list shake flavors or sundaes. I don't even know if they have sundaes but I'm sure if they did the prices would be ridiculous. I honestly don't know why people go to this place other than they must not get out of the area very often. read more

The cafe is located right on Main Street with a wonderfully small, homey, and welcoming atmosphere. The owner and chef, Julie Ann, greeted us with such warmth and hospitality from the moment we walked in. Debbie ordered the Reuben sandwich and I had the pesto panini. Both were packed with incredible flavor and top-notch plant-based ingredients.
