Came to silver eagle in 2020, it was a great barn for a while, but then problems arose. My instructor, Katie, was horrible with communication. She never answered back when I asked about lessons, and during one lesson, she even said she had to leave for a little bit (in the middle of my lesson) to go fill her car up with gas and go to the gas station. She is irresponsible and doesn't care about training properly. I came to a new barn not to long ago and it's so much better. Turns out, Katie was even teaching me wrong. My boots were far too big and my new trainer made sure to tell me. Plus, when I was learning to canter, I was told to land on the horses back, at my new barn, I am told to stand up slightly into a 2 point position, not only is this better on the horses back, but it is the correct way to ride. Also, the facility is horrible. Broken fences, frequent disease outbreaks, many of the staff smoke, horse poop everywhere and they never clean it out, horse fights, frequent horse injuries, etc. I've also seen my old instructor Katie, hit a horse on several occasions. I know you must disciple them if they do not listen or if they bite or kick, but she would fail on beat them with a crop, her hand, or anything else she could find. I would not recommend this stable to anyone. read more

Had my first lesson with Marci and Whiskey here this past weekend and I enjoyed it immensely. Taking riding lessons is something that I have wanted to do my whole life. After contacting several stables, SES was the only one who made me feel like they actually wanted me. After my lesson I talked with several of the staff and also met the owner, Tom. They were all so friendly and welcoming! Even though I've only had one lesson so far, I truly feel like I have found a home and a family. I am very much looking forward to a long relationship with these folks! Keep up the good work! read more

This stable is a ramshackle organization in more ways than one. If it was possible to post a zero star review, I would do so. I began riding with Katie after a consultative lesson. Her resume and background were great, and I needed someone to improve my hunter/jumper style and eventually get me to show. However, in a foreboding omen, I had trouble getting into contact with Katie to arrange weekly lesson following our consultative lesson. Despite a polite text and voicemail message, at least a week went by with me not hearing from her. Finally, the owner of the Silver Eagle Stables, Tammy, circled back and arranged for me to have a lesson. From the off, Katie gave me the distinct feeling that I was not a priority once lessons began. She was constantly distracted, at one point using the last 15 minutes of my lesson to groom her horse for a show she was participating in immediately after. During another lesson, she engaged in distracted conversation with Cleopatra, another instructor who was repulsive in more ways than one, and only gave me advice on my form as an afterthought. One week when Katie was out of town and arranged for me to have a lesson with another instructor, she informed the instructor that my lesson was at 10 while informing me my lesson was at 9. I imagine one can guess what happened on Saturday morning when I arrived to an instructor already in the midst of training another student and confused as to why I had arrived an hour early. When I showed her the text from Katie that my lesson was at 9, the instructor shrugged her shoulders and said "that's Katie-always bad with communication" as though this was acceptable. However, what happened following July 4 was the height of unprofessionalism. Katie was out the week of July 4 and I attempted to get a lesson with one of her other instructors that she trained. She only opted to inform me the morning of July 6 as to whether an instructor was available, despite my having informed her three days before that I was interested in a lesson. Of course, I was taking a train out of town that day, so could not get a lesson. When I came back to DC, Katie texted me as to my availability. I texted her back only for her not to reply with an adequate lesson time for four days. I texted her back, left a voicemail message and called the stables over a period of two weeks with no reply. I then received a call from Tammy, who engaged me in a conversation that was downright surreal. She informed me that I was right to be irritated and that Katie often shuts down and does not communicate lesson times with her students, and that she has begged Katie-her employee-to do her job multiple times but that her first passion is showing. It occurred to me that as Tammy was the owner, it was her responsibility to make certain her employees behave in a professional manner. Hiring an instructor who fails to communicate her availability to her students is rather like employing a glass hammer-it entirely defeats the purpose. Finally, after failing to receive a lesson time from Katie, I was referred to another instructor, Devon. Upon my arrival for my lesson with Devon, I was informed by Cleopatra that Devon was unavailable for a lesson as her car had been damaged in a car crash. Cleopatra then waddled off and refused to aid me in any fashion. As I had not been at the stables for a month, I was unaware that the horse I usually rode was in a different paddock. It took me 25 minutes into my lesson time to retrieve the correct horse, and I was livid at the lack of guidance I paid for. I informed Cleopatra this was unacceptable, and she waddled off to Tammy. I then informed Tammy of my disappointment, only for her to inform me that I was to blame for Devon's car accident because she was driving to a lesson, apparently unaware that she managed a lesson barn. Cleopatra then stood off and refused to instruct me like a petulant infant. I informed Tammy then that this would be my last time at the facility. It is plain that while Silver Eagle may be a mediocre boarding facility, as a lesson barn, Tom and Tammy are out of their depth. Tom's reply rather proves my point. It is an egregious lie that I was removed from the lesson program, as I informed Tammy I would not be returning of my own volition, and was not removed from the property, as evidenced by my having taken one of the horses for a walk and trot around the ring for a 1/2 hour after my encounter. It is also telling that Tom does not dispute the particulars and details of this review. The owners are incompetent fools as well as unrepentant liars. read more

Honestly, if you're still looking for a place to bring your kid(s) you can probably stop looking... Positively exceptional. The management and instructors are the best in this area. I have 3 kids and all have made a tremendous amount of progress in a short amount time. In a matter of months my kids can tack/untack themselves, walk/trot/canter, and are going to shows. They look out for my kids and are always re-evaluating their progress so they can arrange for the best "fit" so they continue to improve. I have no experience in this field and they are so patient with me. They (gently) push my kids to be their best. My kids also attended a 1 week summer camp that was outstanding. They are kind and professional. They treat us like family. I wouldn't go any place else. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Fairly new boarder at Silver Eagle, but I have absolutely no complaints. The new management team has been there for about a year, and they've been instrumental in making this place great for my horses. I have three horses currently boarded there, and I am grateful for the care and attention they receive. Extra special is the fact that management lives on property! During the cold weather we recently experienced, folks were physically at the barn 24/7 to keep check on horses, while providing plenty of hay, checking water overnight, etc. Can't say enough good things! read more

We have been at Silver Eagle for 3 years and this place just continues to improve. New management came in and made a world of difference in the last year! Our horse is always loved by the barn staff and taken such great care of. I am a picky person when it comes to all my fur babies and wouldn't have her any other place. I can always count on the reliable barn staff to turn out in the am and bring in as it gets dark. I have special feeding requirements which they do with no hesitation or pushback. It's owned by a retired Marine who takes great pride in his barn and all the staff he hires. I saw the previous review and had to write about how wrong that person is and how great a facility this is. I normally don't yelp review however this all needed to be said. Special shout out to barn managers Tami and Chris Noakes for the excellent job maintaining high standards or care and only hiring the most qualified individuals. I recently started taking lessons here with Shannon. My goal was to improve my confidence and to improve my jumping. Shannon is doing an excellent job getting me ready for fox hunting season. Decent stable. When I started here years ago, the place was absolutely amazing. It just seems that ever since it sold, the place has been going down hill - quick. Barn managing issues here & there, horse issues, and so forth. Very few people there are super kind hearted, while others are very rude, and think they're better than you. The manager of the farm is a very nice man, but it seems like the owner is lacking the proper care to run a facility of many horses, cats, dogs, boarders, and lessons. This place is either on a rough patch trying to get business too quickly, or they're just failing to realize, you're place is dying because the care is getting bad. Horses are not fed enough. Yes, feed IS expensive...but come on now. read more

The farm managers at Silver Eagle are nice and work very hard, but the owner seems more concerned with making money and running a business than with the horse care and welfare. The farm has a lack of communication between owner, managers, and farm staff which leads to mistakes and carelessness that effects the horses. On one occasion, I witnessed my horse be fed grain, and turned out less than 10 minutes later by another person without being able to finish his food. Regarding turnout, after multiple discussions with staff to keep my horse turned out besides during inclement weather, he was almost always left inside even during nice weather. The most concerning issue was that on 3 separate occasions my horse was in the stall with absolutely no water in 95 degree heat. For these reasons, I believe it's clear that the horses are not the first priority at this facility, and I would absolutely not recommend Silver Eagle. read more

I have been with Silver Eagle Stables going on 2 1/2 years. I have never had any problems with the owner, manager or staff. I believe during the big blizzard one of the staff members stayed on the farm to make sure the horses were well cared for and the manager did nightly checks also. This is a wonderful boarding stable and everyone is very nice and friendly. They also have monthly social gatherings on property and fun is had by all. read more

I'm new to horses (empty nester looking for a new hobby) with no prior experience to fall back on, but I can say that after starting lessons here a few months ago, I've been pleased to the point of starting a half-lease on a horse. The stable manager is safety conscious and has, along with other employees, patiently answered my questions and readily provided help when asked for.
