Absolutely charming inn, the main part of which was built around 1750. It has been stunningly restored to its original log walls and heavy ceiling beams, fireplaces everywhere, and a rustic country setting. The Innkeepers are unfailingly kind and accommodating. So hospitable. Nice wrap-around porch well appointed with rocking chairs (which we enjoyed in only the sunrise hours as it is July and brutally hot and humid.) The B&B is fully air conditioned with individual settings for each guest room. We stayed in the Silk Room, which is enormous! In the antebellum era, silkworms were raised in there and fed harvested mulberry leaves. Modern amenities such as walk-in showers are blended well with the historic features so that there is no jarring sense of disconnect. Breakfast is served each morning by the Innkeepers and is a feast for the eye as well as the palate. Coffee, tea, and ice are available in the dining room 24 hours. There is a shared refrigerator and microwave for guests' convenience. The common parlors downstairs are tastefully furnished with good antique pieces. We loved our brief stay, the last two nights of a two-week honeymoon. Back again someday? Hope so! read more

Silver Lake Bed & Breakfast has exceeded all of my expectations of how I pictured a perfect b&b. This place is the definition of quality. It's clean and inviting, I loved the rustic and cozy feel of each room. The history of the b&b in itself is so special and you can truly feel the love that it's filled with. I felt at such peace from the moment I stepped in throughout the duration of our stay. The inns keepers, Ben and Hannah are as sweet and genuine as can be. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate our anniversary and they were so kind in helping him pick out flowers and chocolates (personally picking them up themselves) to surprise me with. *cue happy tears* It's hard to pick specifically what my favorite part of Silver Lake is because the entire property is just beautiful but the wrap around porch with rocking chairs was where we enjoyed most of our time. For breakfast, we were served homemade peach french toast casserole with a side of bacon. Absolutely delicious!! This quaint and gorgeous b&b should be at the top everyone's list to visit! This is such a cozy and comfy home. Trust me. I've stayed in some of the best B&B's in England and Scotland and Silver Lake B&B is up there amongst them. It's perfect. You are home. Really. It's comfy, casual, and clean. You will feel relaxed as soon as Ryan greets you. I almost hate bragging about it cause I know how wonderfully popular this place is and we won't be able to get a reservation again!!! There is lovely common areas to sit, read, play games or enjoy the 24/7 coffee, tea, water and beer. The breakfast is light. Orange juice, yoghurt with fresh fruit and choice of a small omelette or a slice of quiche and toast. We will be back when passing through VA. read more

The place has an old rustic feel with updated features like amazing showers, plentiful outlasts, flat screen TV in rooms with On Demand, and wireless connection. We stayed in the Garden room, which was amazing. I loved the Mennonite quilts, and the breakfast was amazing. The bed and breakfast is close to Harrisonburg, so totally worth staying here if you have child at JMU or one wants to have a romantic get away in the mountains. What a wonderful bed and breakfast! The managers Ben and Hannah are so friendly and welcoming. They are very good at knowing if you want to chat or if you want your privacy. The have provided all the amenities, wonderful Bath and Body soaps and lotions in the bathroom, high quality fluffy towels, wine glasses and corkscrew, Keurig, teas and teacups in the common room. The historic 1750 log cabin has been restored beautifully and there is a book in the common room where you can read all about the renovation from those who lived in the house. This bed and breakfast is beautifully and simply decorated, not stuffy like some we have visited. So tasteful. The views from every room are beautiful, you can sit in the rockers on the front porch with a glass of wine or mug of hot cocoa and just relax and enjoy the views. All I can say is wow! Not really all I can say, that review would not be very helpful. We loved our stay at Silver Lake B&B. We arrived late, driving back from Boston after dropping our daughter off for her freshman year in college (insert tears here). Ryan was waiting for us, gave us a brief tour of the house and then showed us to our room. We found out that Ryan was the proud new father of a newborn baby, so we were thankful for his waiting up for us. The room (as well as the rest of the house) was beautiful, just like in the pictures we had seen posted. I was looking for someplace to help us adjust to having an empty nest when we returned home to Charlotte, and Silver Lake was perfect. The bed was comfy, the bathroom very nice and the wrap around porch with a local as company was much appreciated. We really enjoyed breakfast, and Ryan accomodated our dietary needs. We are looking forward to a return trip when we have more time to explore the area. read more

My wife and I are wanderlusts from Michigan who yearned for an intimate destination wedding. We wanted a cozy wedding near the mountains at a venue that didn't break the bank. Weeks of searching online led us to Silver Lake Bed and Breakfast. Silver Lake Bed and Breakfast is a 1750s log home that sits on a 100-acre farm outside Harrisonburg, Virginia. The house retains its original rustic charm, with hand-hewn beams and bluestone chimneys. The owners have made tasteful renovations over time, too- digital thermostats, glass walk-in showers, and WiFi. There are wide-open views around the B&B. On any given morning, you might catch a glimpse of a cow, a deer, or the friendly farm cat, Maple. There are lovely rolling hills in the distance. It's quiet and peaceful. You'd never realize that a city of 51,000 people is only ten minutes away. It was everything we'd hoped to find. Since we only anticipated about 40 guests, we qualified for Silver Lake's intimate wedding package. That package allowed us to rent all six of the B&B's guest rooms for our wedding party and parents. We were able to hold our wedding ceremony and reception on-site. Weather permitting, the ceremony would be held outside in front of a beautiful arbor overlooking the hills. We'd have our reception under a large tent in the backyard. After confirming the cancellation policy a few dozen times, we booked before we ever set foot on the property. The owners stopped responding after we signed a contract. Weeks went by. We repeatedly left voicemails and sent e-mails, and no response. Finally, our wedding planner had enough and visited the venue. That's when we learned the owners we booked with had sold the B&B. The new owners were taking the reins and would contact us soon. Undoubtedly, this was an anxious time for us. In hindsight, it was the best thing that could've happened. The new owners, Ben and Hannah, contacted us a couple of weeks later. They apologized profusely for the confusion and promised us an extraordinary experience. They delivered on this promise in spades! Since taking over, they made many improvements to the property we enjoyed for our wedding day. We're grateful for their efforts and excited to see their continued progress! Ben recently refinished the front porch. It's a welcome and comfortable place to sit in a rocking chair on a chilly morning with a cup of hot coffee and a book. Their dining room features a giant, exquisite dining table that Hannah artfully decorates each season. It's a perfect place to enjoy a hot, filling breakfast and forge new friendships. Lastly, there are guest books in every room and the main dining room. We enjoyed reading about previous guests' stories and experiences. Hopefully, future guests will enjoy reading about ours! Ben and Hannah worked seamlessly with our wedding vendors to arrange on-site visits and discuss logistics. They communicated constantly and accommodated every reasonable request. We are so grateful that a twist of fate allowed us to meet them. They politely stayed inside for our wedding ceremony, but we insisted they join us for our reception under the tent in their backyard. They cooked and cared for us for days; the least we could do was offer them the same treatment. We are still determining when we'll return to Virginia, but we will undoubtedly stay at Silver Lake Bed and Breakfast when we do. We know we'll leave with full bellies and hearts. My wife and I picked Silver Lake for a Saturday night stay after she got back from a long business trip. Silver Lake was one of the few B&Bs in the valley that allows single-night weekend stays, so that was definitely a plus. The house is a well-maintained 18th century log cabin surrounded by beautiful green farmland on all sides, though it is also very easy to get to. When we arrived, the innkeeper Ryan was very kind and welcoming, showed us around the facility, and then to our room. The common areas are very nice, a fridge stocked with free sodas and beer is a nice touch. The room was nice and clean, the bed was cozy, and the rooms are well-insulated from the outside climate. We also had a direct door to the wrap-around porch with rocking chairs. So why doesn't this place get 5 stars from me? While the bed part was great, as mentioned above, the breakfast part was mediocre at best. My wife and I have frequented several B&Bs in the valley, from Front Royal to Massanutten. As the name would suggest, the experience you're paying for is a good Bed and a great Breakfast, above and beyond what one could get at home or at an economy hotel. With the bountiful agriculture that defines the Shenandoah Valley, we always enjoy getting a wonderful breakfast creation of some kind when we visit a valley B&B, whether it is a baked good, a fresh fruit or vegetable of some kind, or fresh meat like ham or sausage presented in a new and exciting way. When our breakfast was served at Silver Lake, it was frankly very anti-climactic. Yogurt and granola topped with strawberries, which was good, but was then followed by 2 pancakes, scrambled eggs, and 2 strips of bacon. While the items were prepared well and were satisfying, they were admittedly also very basic and something I probably could have prepared at home in under 30 minutes, honestly kind of a let down given the great experience we had otherwise. Maybe we're just becoming B&B snobs, IDK. I get the sense that the staff here are competent innkeepers with a genuine passion for satisfying guests, and obviously have passed Cooking 101. At the breakfast table, I would challenge you guys to use the bounty of culinary resources around you to push your limits and challenge yourselves to come up with dishes that will take your guests from "Meh" to "Wow." read more

My husband and I were given a gift certificate to Silver Lake as an Anniversary gift from our daughter. We were really impressed. The log cabin that dates back to 1750 is beautiful. The welcome committee (Maple the cat) met us at the car and walked us to the front door! We stayed in the Silk Room. The room was adequate and the shower was a spacious! We enjoyed time in the rockers on the front wrap around porch and watching the sunset. Breakfast each morning was more than expected! Make sure you come with an appetite! Hannah makes sure you are well fed and leave with a full stomach for your daily adventures! The town of Dayton is full of history. We recommend the Dayton Historical Society museum. Very well done and full of artifacts. The Dayton walking tour of the historic homes was enjoyed. Unfortunately many of the shops were not open until the end of the week. While visiting Silver Lake, if you are a reader, go to Green Valley Book Fair, visit Natural Chimneys and the local winery. The Cracked Pilar Restaurant in Bridgewater was delicious. Stop at Valley Produce off of interstate 81, Bridgewater exit. The a deli sandwich was enough for two people. Thank you Hannah and Ben "Benhanna." My fiance and I stayed there last weekend and had a lovely stay. The rooms are very nice and new, super comfortable and warm, but designed in a rustic 19th century style (not loaded down with tons of creepy Victorian old-time-y photos). The shower was hot with great water pressure. The breakfast was very delicious in the and the inn-keepers are wonderful. The B&B's location is peaceful and bucolic. Here's another wow moment. I kinda don't want to write this in hopes that next year I can get a reservation and I do not book the place solid. I have done that before and couldn't get a hair appointment at my favorite salon, lol. The cleanest and freshest smelling B&B I have ever stayed in. (Traveled the world 20+ years). There's a little farm cat named Maple who greets you at the door (she's not allowed inside) and a warm fire as soon as you open the door. "Happy Birthday!" she said as I walked in and put my stuff down. They do not usually serve dinner, but were extremely accommodating with making sure we had something to eat that night. The room was huge and had the best smelling soaps/lotions/fluffy towels. I went downstairs and worked on a puzzle for a while before heading to bed. I cannot have salt and they rocked out an amazing healthy breakfast that will not hurt me. They brought out yogurt parfaits with fresh blueberries and bananas. Next, was fresh avocado toast with boiled egg sliced on top, some sweet potatoes with cinnamon and some amazing bacon. Looking back I wish I could have stayed longer. The room was peaceful, the food was outstanding and the conversations were like family. read more

Just outside of town so not in the hustle and bustle but close enough that your short drive is pretty straight forward when or if you need to go to Harrisonburg. We really enjoyed our stay at the Silver Lake B&B. We arrived after dinnertime after a long drive from Atlanta. We had originally made a resrvation at another property nearby, but were referred here when they were unable to accommodate. We're so happy to have ended up here. The history behind the place is quite interesting, with the log home dating back to the 1700s. The family who currently owns it grew up here, but only when they started renovating did they confirm family stories that there were logs behind the plaster walls. What a great renovation. There's lots of the original construction visible (Check out the shower!), but all the updates are so well done, it's very, very comfortable. The innkeepers were very friendly and helpful, and are knowledgeable about the area. We loved the fireplaces in the common areas, where we met some new friends to chat with in the evening and in the morning at breakfast. We wree very comfortable and would definitely return. read more

This bed and breakfast is like a dream! The house is so beautiful, elegant, and unusual; pictures can't do it justice. It's unlike any building I've ever been inside: it's historic and made of stone, but it oozes warmth and comfort. The room I stayed in was gorgeous, with an especially luxurious bathroom/shower. I sense it was recently renovated. The artisanal lavender soap was icing on the cake. Ryan is an awesome host, who makes custom breakfasts for you if you're gluten free like me. Plus, there's a stocked fridge with complimentary water bottles, soda, and beer and cute tea/coffee makings in the living room available 24/7. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Just lovely. So much nicer than staying in a chain hotel. The glass showers and the exposed logs were a nice touch. It's a five minute drive into town. We had dinner at the Wilton House (also lovely) and they reminded us that they too are a B&B and I thought "nah...I'd stay at Silver Lake again." Silver Lake B&B was not far from the Frontier Culture Museum that we were visiting that morning. It was easy to find and Ryan was there to greet us when we arrived. We had reserved the largest room, the Homestead Suite. On its website it lists: 2 Beds: King Size and Queen Size bed with high quality linens, Private bathroom with whirlpool tub and a heated back rest, Individually climate controlled room, Electric light fire place, In-room internet/Wi-Fi, and In-room LCD flat screen with DirecTV. The room is actually two rooms so there was plenty of space. The whirlpool tub was fantastic. Unfortunately the fireplace is just for show and does not work. This was a big disappointment because it was one of the reasons we booked the room. The internet was very slow too but probably because we are in the country. There is a walmart not far from the b&b if you need refreshment and snacks. The fridge downstairs has free coke, sprite, yuengling, and miller lite. They have wine for sale but it is $18. We will be back again to try their breakfast. We had to leave early. It smelled delicious though. read more

What a perfect place to come for a little get away! Ryan and Katie are incredible hosts. Ryan's breakfast is delicious and he will accommodate any dietary needs. The rooms are beautiful rustic looking but have controllable heating, comfortable beds, and good plumbing. The location is perfect, close to Harrisonburg's great restaurants and multiple vineyards in the valley. We got engaged in front of the fireplace in the family at this B and B and will come back for years to come....I cannot imagine a more perfect place! This little gem was the perfect stop for my husband and I as we made our way through the Shenandoah Valley en route to Charleston. The managers were so welcoming and accommodating! Everything was very clean and well kept. They make sure all of their guests are well taken care of and gave my husband and I good suggestions of things to do while in town. The location is easy to get to and from the local attractions. The managers do a great job at respecting all guests privacy which is part of the charm of a bed and breakfast. WiFi is good in all rooms especially considering the rural location. The farm kitten is also so cute and friendly, she does not come in the house and only comes to you if you want her to because she can be a little bit skiddish. Can't wait to come back! read more

My girlfriend and I wanted a nice B&B in the Harrisonburg area while we were hiking in the Shenandoah National Park. Silver Lake B&B was everything we wanted and more. Ryan greeted us and showed us around the house before showing us to our room. It was kind of small, but the bed was comfy and the shower was amazing. We had access to the porch with rocking chairs, which we sat on every night playing board games. The complimentary drinks were a nice touch. Breakfast was perfectly sized and made. Ryan also made an excellent recommendation about where to hike in the SNP (Bear Fence Mountain!), which we LOVED. The property is gorgeous and furnished beautifully. The B&B is situated just minutes away from Harrisonburg in a quaint little farming town of Dayton. Additionally, there is a somewhat scenic drive to any part of the SNP (anywhere from 30 min to 1.5 hours, depending on what part of the park you want to get to). The rolling hills, abundant farms, and scenic sunrises and sunsets offered a perfect getaway for a few days. Ryan was so hospitable and friendly, and hit every note perfectly. read more
