We rented the entire space, which by the way is pet friendly if you do that. Donna was incredibly responsive when we booked, and answered all of my questions prior to arrival. She met us there to let us in, practicing social distancing of cours The pictures don't actually do it justice! The cabin part is comprised of a kitchen, dining area, living area and loft. There is a connecting hallway to the other house section, which had three bedrooms (each with en suite bath) plus an additional powder room off of another sitting area. The rooms and decorations were so well done. Besides that, there are a ton of additional touches. Things like a really nice grill, Life vests and floating noodles, a canoe, and a TV with accounts signed in for the streaming services (we caught up on Ozark!). Oh, and fresh chicken and duck eggs were left for us in the fridge, which we devoured. The grounds are beautiful as well. The landscaping just accentuates an already perfect view of the Shenandoah. We also hiked up to the little summit to get a 360 degree view at the top. Our three days here flew by and we all had an amazing time. We will definitely be back.

There are two bedrooms and two baths, plus a full kitchen & dining area, a living room with a fireplace, a separate TV/reading room, an outside patio, and a screened porch right outside the main bedroom. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are clean and provided with the guests' basic needs. The kitchen is well equipped and the dining table has a view to flower gardens and a big lawn. Not that any cooking is needed while on vacation. Breakfast is sumptuous and delicious, thanks to Robin's great cooking. And just about 10 minutes away is New Market, which has several restaurants, a great cafe inside a museum, and a super well-stocked general store. It's a great staging spot for nearby trips to the caverns, hikes, fall scenery, regional festivals, wine tasting and much more. Dave and Robin are great hosts too. Truly a wonderful place (at a great price) that I highly and wholeheartedly recommend. In addition to vacations, the cottage and surroundings are great for writers, artists, or people working on big projects who need quiet and concentration. My two-day stay was way too short. Just moments before we were going to walk to dinner at The Inn at Little Washington, it started to pour torrentially. The owner of the Gay Street Inn offered to drive us so that we would not get soaked walking. It was such a nice thing to do, and we really appreciated the thoughtfulness. We were struggling to pull up the door code at first but we were let in (I believe by Drew) and welcomed us into their B&B and our room. The room was pretty spacious for the two of us and it was beautifully decorated. It had anything we really needed for the one night. We booked the Bed & Breakfast rate which included breakfast the next morning (sadly we missed it) and two cocktails that we picked the day prior in our mini fridge. We enjoyed both of those and loved that it included mixers if we wanted. The extra drinks were much appreciated as well. The bed felt a little weird for me and got a little sore but my girlfriend seemed to like it. Check out was pretty simple. We basically just had to leave the key and walk out. Drew and Deb really made things easy for us and everything was seamless. If we ever did come back, I would love to stay again.

Our room was quiet, clean, and the amenities were just what we needed for the weekend getaway. Daniel--the manager--worked with me to surprise my wife with a bottle of sparkling wine that was chilled in the room and a vase of stunning fall flowers. The food at the inn was amazing, fresh, and I only wish we would have also eaten here Saturday night! We enjoyed breakfast both mornings and had dinner Sunday night. During breakfast, they have many choices (all included) and we chose to try the omelet, the sausage gravy, and the eggs Benedict. There were also choices for French toast, a farmers breakfast, and they had gluten free options as well when asked. For dinner, because it was on Sunday it was the supper series that gives a three course option with the main choices being fried chicken or pork bbq. The location of this inn is ideal--a short drive from Richmond, northern Virginia, or Charlottesville. This makes it an easy getaway from the hustle of the city, but also not a super long journey. She also asked what time we wanted breakfast delivered to the room since that is a benefit of the cottage. There is parking guaranteed right next to the cottage and it seemed enough for two full-sized vehicles easily. Wi-fi worked great. We loved the wood stove. You don't need it for heating purposes but it was very nice and cozy to sit beside the fire. The cottage has a lot of windows to let in natural light which was enchanting in the morning. When you get there you'll realize the room faces the road but you need to worry as they have great privacy shades that also block any night light. The bathroom actually has a wall heater unit installed too. It was so nice stepping out from the shower into a very cozy bathroom space. We slept amazing. If you are a light sleeper you might consider traveling with a white noise machine or downloading an app for that. There isn't really much noise but the very rare car driving past. It was raining for our stay but there is a nice furnished side deck area that would be nice to eat breakfast on. There is snacks and drinks in the main house which is just a few feet from the cottage. They do also have happy hour where guests can mingle too. My husband and I are introverts so we stayed in but felt welcome to go. Overall it was a great stay and I highly recommend staying here.

So hospitable. Nice wrap-around porch well appointed with rocking chairs (which we enjoyed in only the sunrise hours as it is July and brutally hot and humid.) The B&B is fully air conditioned with individual settings for each guest room. We stayed in the Silk Room, which is enormous! In the antebellum era, silkworms were raised in there and fed harvested mulberry leaves. Modern amenities such as walk-in showers are blended well with the historic features so that there is no jarring sense of disconnect. Breakfast is served each morning by the Innkeepers and is a feast for the eye as well as the palate. Coffee, tea, and ice are available in the dining room 24 hours. There is a shared refrigerator and microwave for guests' convenience. The common parlors downstairs are tastefully furnished with good antique pieces. We loved our brief stay, the last two nights of a two-week honeymoon. Back again someday? Hope so!

I had no idea what to expect when I set out late on a Friday evening from Washington, DC to Luray,…read moreVA. My biggest question was where was Luray, VA. As it turned out, Luray is located in Northern Virginia, about 80 miles South of DC in a quaint little town nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Arriving around 10pm, I didn't know how beautiful until the next morning when I woke up to the most awesome sunrise and gentle mountain ranges. The "Inn" is actually one of several huge homes or "villa's" on the top of a hill on 5 acres of beautifully manicured land, something else I discovered the next morning. Upon arriving, I drove up the hill to Villa #1 and was greeted warmly by the owner Darryl Haley, a 6'6, 325-pound gentle giant of a man. As it turns out Haley is a former New England Patriots Offensive Lineman, Ironman Triathlete, and Corporate Fitness Trainer, with a B.S. degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Utah, a degree in Computer Science from George Washington University, I was given a tour of the 5-bedroom villa each with its own bathroom and jacuzzi tub, and settled in a room on the corner with an Eastern view towards the mountains and we agreed that breakfast would be served the next morning at 10AM.. Fortunately for me, I was the only guest in the entire villa so I was able to wake up to a wonderful sunrise, go back to sleep, shower, watch television, roam around the spacious home at my leisure and enjoy the views all before 10AM. At around 9:30am I received a call from Darryl inviting me to come up to the main house for breakfast that included eggs, turkey bacon, orange juice, cinnamon pancakes topped with strawberries and walnuts, and a delicious spicy hashbrown invention called a "Darryl." Normally after eating that much food I'd want to go back to sleep, but I felt energized and ready to go. I spent the next hour talking to Darryl about his career as an athlete in the NFL, and how much he loves cooking, hosting guests, and how it all fits into the theme of The Darryl Haley Bed and Breakfast, "where romance, fun and fitness are the main activities." After he cleaned up the kitchen, I was given a tour of the the main house, the grounds, a cottage tucked away at the bottom of a hill, and the gazebo which overlooks a dairy farm and has mountain views in every direction. We eventually ended up in a spacious garage that had been converted into a fitness and recreation center where I was coaxed into a friendly game of ping pong which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was then given a tour of the city which has plenty of bike and jogging trails, a lake for fishing or canoeing, as well as parks, hiking trails, antique shops, restaurants and wineries. The people are warm and friendly, and the area has become a magnet for artists, writers, and others looking for a retreat from the pace of big city life. In one area of the town there is a sobering reminder of its confederate past and an acknowledge how far this city of 5,000 has come. Whether its a personal or romantic getaway, a family, women's, men's or group retreat, this is a relaxing place to come to and you'll feel at home.
