One of our day trips, so many beautiful places to visit in the Sierras.

Silver Lake is a beautiful small lake in the June Lake Loop, about 35 min from Mammoth. My Father built our cabin with his Step-Father when he was 12 years old, in the 30's. It is so beautiful in the morning when it's calm, the lake is like a mirror, that why they call it Silver Lake. The mountain that stands tall is Carson Peak, it is such a beautiful sight. All the private cabins are located on one side of the lake, the opposite side has Silver Lake Resort. It has a grocery store and restaurant. It's very quaint, great food. They serve breakfast, which they are known for, and lunch. They also run the trailer park, campground, and have their cabins they rent out. It's a great place for families, you can rent motor boats and kayaks. They akso have a horse stable and rent out horses to ride near the resort, they also take people up the mountain where you can camp out for days, they will bring the horses down after leaving you at your campground, then pick you up days later. Great location to travel to Mammoth, Yosemite, Lee Vining and so many wonderful places.

Nestled in the mountains between Salt Lake City and Park City, Silver Lake is a beautiful recreational area with amazing lake and mountain views, and an easy hiking trail that leads around the lake (about 20-30mins walk, no incline). Perfect for people of all ages and sizes. There is a market and restaurant nearby where you can grab breakfast, as well as public restrooms.

Have you ever been to a place where you felt like you were in a painting? This one feels like you're in a Bob Ross painting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Ross On our way to Mammoth Lakes during fall season of 2013, we made pits tops along the way to enjoy the many sceneries along the way. Exiting Yosemite Park and driving down the side of the mountain, I found myself marveling at the colors of the trees. They were bright yellow and looked so vibrant against the earth tone surrounding it. As we drove towards Silver Lake, there was a row of these same trees I was marveling at and it felt magical underneath the canopy of bright, vivid colors. I felt all giddy and my heart filled joy driving through that column of trees. I was amazed at the colors because this is not something I am used to. Heck, I live in Daly City, where there's only two seasons: foggy and hot. The lake itself is not that big, but what it lacks in size more than makes up for its beauty against the backdrop of the Sierras. The water is cold and the color of a rich, dark blue that draws you in as it pierces your eyes while you gaze into her spirit. It's peaceful It's beautiful It's relaxing It's breathtaking It cleanses the soul and frees your mind of worry for that instance that you are in her cocoon of rustling leaves, fresh air, swaying trees and all kinds of hues and colors to paint her world of natural beauty. Like Bob Ross used to say, Happy Trees.

We enjoy visiting this lake, it was so peaceful, and beautiful, it was a couple of our first times visiting here and it was the perfect get away from the city life. We were able to rent a little boat for 7 hours half a day for 50$ which was more than enough time we actually turn in the boat before the 7 hours were up. I can't wait to do this again.

Beautiful place to visit in October. The autumn colors are just gorgeous, plus the crowds are minimal compared to summer. There were a lot of fishermen near the shore, we decided to walk away and circle the lake. The walk was peaceful and very relaxing. Some picnic tables are sprinkled here and there. The aspen trees make quite a picturesque scene. Visit and feast your eyes.

I love this lake and the adjoining little breakfast restaurant and market. A great sense of being and community. I stopped by hear in between lakes to fish or to grab a drink from the market. So happy its there.

The most beautiful place on Earth. So peaceful so calm so relaxing. No matter if you're fishing hiking or just soaking in the natural beauty it is always a great place to be. I've been coming here since I was born and will continue to come here till the day I die.

    Amazing view! Very relaxing

Just amazing!!!! A place that you always thought you would go when you want to relax. It's seriously spectacular. Nature mountains lake at its best. The view it's beautiful!!! Fishing for some trout. We would see the fish flying out of the water but stayed for an hour and didn't catch nothing. But just amazing to be there and see such a pretty a place! Something you would see in a painting. This is for my books that I would want to visit again. Really no shade so remember to bring some bug spray you will need it.

GOR-geous. The lake is magnificent, the little town is quaint, the people are very friendly, the air is clean. The only bummer was not having enough time here. I can't wait to come back!

Come on...nothing much to say, all these lakes are beautiful. Silver lake in May is gorgeous. It was still cold and snow on the ground too.

Take the trail towards Agnew and Gem Lakes that transverses a cable-pulled rail line. Just before reaching the dam at Agnew Lake, follow signs to Clark Lakes by diverting left to the toughest part of the hike that goes up a rock scree. Enjoy the Clark Lakes and then follow the signs to 1000 Island Lake where the terrain rolls up and down. When approaching 1000 Island from the east, a climatic build up occurs as the trail skirts along a cascading river to one of best lakes imaginable. It's impossible to oversell the beauty of this large mountain lake dotted with vegetated islands and backed by towering granite crags. Although a long hike, plenty of stuff to see along the way maintains interest. Not monotonous (like hikes with only dense forest where every tree stump looks the same), the beginning has great views of Silver Lake followed by the industrial dams and rail tracks, and then the lushly green Clark Lakes - a worthwhile visit of their own. The busiest area was near 1000 Island Lake despite being the furthest from civilization. Consequently, my day-hiker self was in the minority amid the overnight backpackers and the trailhead parking lot was only half full. In late June 2022 during a drought, the lakes were full of water and patches of snow existed but never across the trail.

Having climbed this trail so many times It still doesn't get old. It's the Labor Day w/e so the campground was packed with RV's . Although there were a couple of spots left for us backpackers. It was the perfect weather to hike in at 78 degrees. First Man made lake you will encounter will be Gem Lake at 9058 ft. The condition for this lake was appalling. The water level was low and the shore around it was dry. Expect to gain 1778 ft in 5 miles to get to Gem Lake. Alger Lakes is 7.5 miles from the intersection of Gem/Waugh/1000 Island. You start at 9160 ft and expect to gain 1840 ft the the very last of the three lakes. To get to the third Alger Lake you traverse a very scenic and relatively easy narrow trail surrounded by Donohue Peak at 11000 and Koip Peak at 12000. We scrambled up a class 2 nameless pass to get to a lake just below Koip Peak. It was merely a bowl of alpine lake not as big as the first Alger Lake but it was beautiful with dark rocks and nobody but us. No sign of snow since it's facing north. Although there's plenty of sign that the lake was once big and full. Rocks were exposed. Shores were much bigger. On the climb up we saw a not so visible waterfall form the lower lakes and followed it all the way up. At 11,500 the three Alger Lakes were fully exposed. What a scene! Alger Lakes are considered one of the most beautiful area to backpack. It boasts of one of the most beautiful canyon. Colors of green, blue, purple, red and yellow will play a trick on youR mind. I could swear I was in the Grand Canyon. Between the two canyons you will be able to get a glimpse of June lake resort. This is a very difficult hike with a lot of steep switchback climbs for miles and miles. Although the reward in the end and on the way in is worth it's weight in whatever precious metal you can think of. This is a very windy area. It may run 78-80 degrees during the day but the wind is chilled ice at 15-20 miles an hour. You. Will. Get. Cold! At night the wind is even worse. So pack some warm but light clothing and secure your tent. But this is one of my most rewarding trip. Awesome! #backpacking rocks # getoffyourbutt #getoffmybutt #11500 #koip peak12000.

While you can only see so much in two days, his skillful guiding made the most of that time covering the multiple waterfalls in the valley, the Sequoia Grove, Hatch Hatchy and many others. He is a self taught naturalist and gave us just the right mix of park history and insights into the floral and fauna. He also balanced our hiking so it was challenging enough to keep me interested but not to difficult that Thelma could not enjoy it as well. He was also terrific about assisting her through some of the more difficult and rocky sections so she was never uncomfortable.
