I've never had a worst haircut. After growing my hair for a year, I decided to have a trim. The staff was overall nice, but my stylist Nancy is an obvious amateur that became scissor happy and decided to add so many layers that half my length was cut off. I specifically told her that I wanted to keep my hair as long as possible. I'm now stuck with what looks like a bob/mullet atrocity on my head and am so sad. I regret ever stepping foot in this salon. The experience has ruined months work and left a bitter mark. read more

Fabulous! Just got my hair done with Fausto for the second time. He is so sweet and attentive. He's an amazing colorist! He is so thoughtful while he does your hair. Made sure I caught up on my magazines and stayed hydrated. My scalp was a little sensitive to the bleach (going summer blonde) and he made me so comfortable. I love puppies and they had two there. I'm picky as hell when it comes to who I let muck around with my hair. Then I met Farel who has an eye for perfection, even when perfection looks like I just got out of bed. Totally digging that I can get my brows done up and did over while Farel is doing my hair. Truthfully, I've paid a heck of a lot more for a heck of a lot less. Love the salon with it's big windows and lots of natural light. Heck, even the cute little dog who peed on the floor adds a certain charm (yes, someone on staff cleaned up the little mess). This place is awesome! I was driving by looking for a salon because I just moved to this area from New York/Miami. They were open on a Monday, so I went in and spoke to Nancy. She put me in a chair, I told her what I wanted (I didn't have to show her a picture, because she actually really listened) and my hair came out kick ass!!! She is my new cut and color stylist!!! I just went in 4 weeks later so she could actually fix my "self dyed root do it your selfer" hair color and once again she was amazing! Hard to beat and highly recommended, especially at the price; I'll be back. Although Rogerio didn't do exactly what I had in mind -- his English is maybe a little weak -- I admittedly gave pretty vague instructions, so I won't complain. What he did do was great, better actually -- dude knows what he's about. And my wife likes it a lot! I almost dinged one star for the rather loose scheduling: when you make an appointment, allow potentially lots of time; 45 minutes in my case. Overall fantastic expereience! For my birthday, I wanted a drastic change, so I decided to go from long hair (middle of my back) to a mohawk. I took the advice from a friend, and booked an appointment with Antonio. When I got there, Antonio was not available, but in a serendipitous twist, Paco, a stylist well versed in edgy cuts was available. I handed him a picture of the style that I wanted, and he seemed really excited to get to work. For three hours, Paco snipped, colored, rinsed, and shaved my hair. The entire staff was really friendly and accomodating the whole time. When they weren't cutting hair, they were bustling around cleaning shelves and tidying up. The salon looked and felt really clean. I have to admit, I was a little nervous when he handed me the mirror for the 360 view, but when I spun around, I was estatic! He interpeted the picture perfectly to give me the style that worked for my face. He did an amazing job on the color, too. I asked him for a tiny bit of blue, and as a picky client, even asked him to match the color to my favorite necklace. He didn't even bat an eye. He just went to the back and came out with the perfect shade! I could see a few shades on his hand, so I know he worked rerally hard to mix the color just right! I also got a chance to see a few other clients come and go, and they all looked great when they walked out. I totally eavesdropped on a few other stylists with their clients and was happy to hear how well the stylists listened to what the clients wanted. And how nice everyone was! I finally walked out, a new girl with a cut, color, and style for $125. Not bad for all of that work! Now, a week later, the cut looks just as good as it did when I bounced out of there. Paco showed me how to style it, and I have gotten a bajillion complements on my hair. I'm so glad that I found this salon! Oh, on a side note, there is an adorable yorkie pup that wanders around the salon. I love dogs, and got a kick out of him tugging at my shoelace, but the stylists were very sensitive to clients who didn't seem as comfotable around dogs. Nancy can cut bangs like a boss. If you're looking to get some side swept bangs she is great at it. I had a different person (I hate that I cannot remember his name) blow-dry straight my hair and he did a really nice job. A lot of times hair stylists straighten my hair with a blow dryer and then an iron, but he didn't even need the iron he was that good. This place also got me in at the last minute very easily. Getting my hair cut by Nancy for the past year has changed my life. I'm not exaggerating. Let me explain: About a year ago I was rocking this long shaggy emo-joe-jonas-meets-the-beatles kind of hair cut. It's pretty much the same lazy style that I've had since my freshman year of college, only now that I'm a working man I was parting it on the side. Every 8 weeks or so when the shag got below my eyes I'd find the closest hair cutting place and go in for a chop. This time I happened to go to Silver Lake Studio, and I got Nancy. I tell her I just want a trim, and about 45 minutes later she's done. But then she looks at me and says "you know you're way to young for this kind of haircut. You should really wear it shorter". So I said, "OK, let's go a little shorter". Another hour and a half later and my hair is shorter than it's been in years, and I look f*ing GOOD. I mean, I've had some good hair cuts before, gotten compliments on them and everything. But this one was different. Later that same night I'm out with some friends at a concert. I see this really cute girl and we start talking, flirting, and exchange phone numbers. Fast forward one year later, and we're celebrating our one year anniversary. I've shown my girlfriend pictures of how my hair used to look, and her reaction was, "Ew. I would not give that guy my number." Ever since that fateful first hair cut I've been going back to Nancy every month. If anything, I would say the hair cut keeps getting better. As other reviewers have noted, Nancy is a perfectionist. I just made a drastic change to my hair, and I'm so glad I went to Silver Lake Studio. A friend was going to originally do it for me, and thank god she canceled last minute. I called in and spoke to Raven, and she was able to fit me in same day. She did an INCREDIBLE job and I'm so happy with the outcome. Maybe the worst haircut I have had ever. I live in the neighborhood and it looked hip and stylish so on a whim on Saturday I stopped in for highlights and a cut. Whatever you do, do not see Tracy. She has only been there a few weeks and is only 21, so cannot have that much experience. And yet, they charge the same for her as for the owners (who must be in their 50's). I wanted a brown base to match my roots and it came out beige-ish with a green cast. I said I wanted new growth to blend in with the brown and instead of leaving my color as is - about 2 inches of regrowth - she put the beige all the way to my scalp. I told her very small amount of bangs and I practically have a bowl cut of bangs when I put my hair in a ponytail. I told her I was trying to grow it out and to keep the layers long and now the ends are wispy. Do not come here! Any good cuts/color are sheer luck not skill!!! read more

Worse hair cut of my life. I had long hair and only wanted layers in the front and he went to town with the scissors!! It would of been cool if the layers were nice but I looked like my 7 year old son chopped my hair in the back during a play date at the day care. It will take me 2 years to grow back the mistake this guy did to my poor innocent long hair. I went from hair to my waist to un even short layers not ever past my shoulders. I'm learning to cope with it but it will be hard for my to go under the scissors again!! These guys are low budget over priced salon. Behind the glitzy salon decor is a bunch of boys playing with barbies. Not to be mean, but I live my hair and no one messes with it!!! I was horrified and still am. This place is a freakin joke!! Absolutely disapointed... I come from Paris, France, and this is the worse haircut I ever had... No technic skills, simply no style... I had really pretty long hair (mid-back) and I just needed a trim, a work on my layers and my bang. That's it! The most simple haircut. All my beautiful lenght is gone, antonio simply did cut the bottom of my hair (at least 7 inches) without styling my layers at all and simply didn't work on my bang... It seemed that he didn't know what he was doing or never did cut girl's hair??? He was really nice and easy to talk with... But it is simply awfull to cut hair this way, he didn't care about my style and what I wanted. The brushing was awfull and so ridiculous, so not me... I washed my hair as soon as I came home & I cried all day long, not knowing what to do with my hair as it is looking horrible. I paid 50 dollars to kill my hair. And I am traumatised and scared to try someone else as I come from a different country... This was my first hair cut in the USA. read more

The Silver Lake Studio was the second place that I got my hair cut in LA. I've taken a week to think about this review, and about all I can come up with was that it was "OK". Really, it just made me wonder what it would take for me to actually be impressed with a haircut. When I called for an appointment, they answered right away and booked me for later in the afternoon. When I showed up, it seemed to not even matter that I had an appointment, as the guy behind the counter took me over and got right to work. There were two or three other people sitting around not doing much. After giving him very minimal direction (I never know what to say...) he did a good job with the cut, shampooed me and put in a little product. He wasn't much for chatting, and seemed more interested in the plastic surgery special on E! playing in the background. He never even told me his name. Still, $24 and half an hour later I was on my way. My hair looks good, and I'm satisfied, but somehow I still feel like I want more from the experience. It was "OK". read more

Massimo has been cutting my hair almost monthly for over 3 years. I seriously feel bad if I'm traveling and need to get it cut with anyone else. He has some serious talent. I always feel confident he will do a great job which is important to me because of my work. I'm required to be polish and do presentations in front of many people. I remember asking around town who cut guys hair the best and I got his name from a female stylist. Even she had to admit he really knew what he was doing. He's always in a good mode and really focuses when he is cutting. Thankfully he started working nearby so I don't have to consider cross country trips to just get the right haircut. read more

WHAT A FIND!!! SLS is a great addition to the neighborhood. With so many new salons in the area,SLS standout because they GET IT!! They are not trying to be westside on the eastside. They keep it real but still fresh. Antonio is a great stylist who actually listens to what you want done. He takes his time with you and never makes me feel rushed. The end result is always good and I don't have to wait a few days before I like the end result. The atmostphere is relaxed but stylish. The prices are amazing, yes that means you "Rudys". So I really feel the necessity to update my last review on Nancy which was about 10 months ago. Her work ethic and professionalism remain the same. I have been a client of hers for over 5 years. And I can honestly say, she takes great pride in her work, and doesn't let you leave her chair till every hair is in its place, she is indeed a perfectionist! Ok, so after I had some financial issues I could no longer afford to keep up with my blonde maintenance root touch ups every 1 1/2-2 months and decided to look for a cheaper alternative. Boy oh boy was that a big fat MISTAKE! You definitely get what you pay for. I ended up texting Nancy to desperately get her to fix what the other hairstylist did. She was able to accommodate me and fit me into her busy schedule 3 days later. 8 hours later, and my hair is as good as new. Thank you so much Nancy! I'll never abandon you again! My hair is an investment, blonde hair is definitely one of those things that are worth shelling out the extra money for to let a professional work their magic! Nancy is a hair guru! As a yelper it is really hard for me to give a bad review unless my experience is completely unacceptable. Unfortunately that was the case for this salon! I went in really wanting to find someone that I liked! I had found A guy who was going to be working with me! We had been talking over the phone and I have to say he was really good at replying back. We discussed about all the bad experiences I had in the past with hair dressers and he promised that he would change all of this! The day of my appointment came and we talked about all of my options, I decided to go for an ombré, bad idea considering the fact that this was the first time working with this person!! I have long hair and he started off by bleaching almost to the roots, it was really hard to see what he was doing bc he kept the hair back at all time so I really couldn't see what was happening. When my boyfriend got there he was surprised that I was going so light. Max had already processed my hair for a while before he came in. I kept telling max that I did not want my hair to end up looking like bubble gum and he assured me that my hair was stronger then Asians people hair as he referred to my hair. My boyfriend who knows nothing about hair also told him that he didn't think I should have that bleach in my hair for so long, but again he assured that he had everything under control! He went off to cutting of his hair while I was processing, died his hair, waited 40 mins for his hair to process, washed his hair, styled his hair and still left me to process some more! Now that I'm writing this I am getting really upset to know that I allowed this to happened and that I didn't ran away from this place! As expected my hair was completely destroyed! Fried and bubble gum looking! It was not an ombré it was just brown and blonde, no contrast! I honestly do not know how he managed to blow dry my hair without leaving me hairless! I told him that I didn't like it and he offered to fix it right there and then but the taught of having him wash my hair again in that condition and putting more chemicals in it and then drying it all over again was terrifying for me! So I told him that I would sleep on it! Of course I didn't went back the next day bc I knew the only thing that could be done after the damaged he did was to cut it off! The first day that I washed it and my hair went to its weak self I cried for hours. I have spent so much money on products trying to safe something that has no cause saving. I called him back and told him that I didn't think it was fair that he got to keep all the money he charged me for ruining my hair and that I had to deal with the consequences, I asked him to reimburse me some of the money I paid so I could cover some of the expenses I've been having to make in order to not go bold since he chose to do an ombré almost all the way to my root! He told me that he was really sorry but that it had been over a week and that he didn't know what else I had done to the hair! (What else have I done to the hair? Trying to fix the freaking damage you caused!!!!) any how it's been 2 weeks and I want to cry every time I wash my hair! It's completely destroyed! Ruined, fried, sad! All I can say is be careful who you allow touching your hair! This was by far the worst experience I have ever had! Oh and when he finished my hair he ruined my shirt with bleach and said "oh I ruined it a little bit, sorry" what !!!!!! I keep referring back to this day and it's really upsetting me! I am so glad to finally find a hair salon that I can keep going back to!!! The salon is really cool, with bright green and blk/wht striped walls and simple, clean design. Its located in a cute neighborhood with great shopping for after you get your hair cut. The stylists are all well-dressed and good-looking latin men. I called on Friday night and they were able to book me an appointment with Antonio the following morning. He is one of the owners and told me how he had started SLS with a friend a few years back. He was friendly, easy to talk to and did exactly what I had asked with my hair. He gave me great advice on keeping my hair healthy and spent time making sure everything was done right. After he washed and cut my hair, he blow dried it into a perfect flip and I was set to go for the day and night! The prices are totally reasonable ($45 for a cut) and I have never received so many compliments on a cut. Their awesome customer service and quality work will ensure the continued success of the salon. I am happy to be a loyal customer to SLS and will recommend to anyone looking for a new place to cut their hair. read more

Called late on Sunday, and Daniel was able to squeeze me in. Just to let everybody know, my hair is very hard to work with. It is very curly and dry and not too many hairdressers are able to blow dry it to sleekness, shine and softness, which is what I like! I went there because I really needed a good cut. This place honestly doesn't deserve any stars and I don't like to write bad reviews but as soon as I walked in the service was horrible. Since moving to Silverlake I needed to find a new salon so I came here. To make this quick, my hair stylist was thirty minutes late and then while I was waiting some guy who couldn't speak English was the only one there and actually asked me if I could take calls for people that were calling for appointments. This was not a joke. By the end of this hair appointment my hair was fried from the treatment on my blonde hair and the color was not what I wanted. Months later my hair is finally starting to feel good again. This place is honestly a hot mess and regardless if the salon had a bad day it seriously doesn't matter. I would skip this salon because you shouldn't go somewhere where it's going to be a hit or miss from one day to the next. read more

Ghetto Unfabulous.....this review is based on a visit while accompanying a friend . My friend made an appointment here about two weeks ago, the place is near her home and she thought of giving it try after driving past on many occasions...BAD MOVE. Arriving for her 11am appointment the place was still shuttered shut, after waiting outside for twenty minutes some dude finally arrived without showing the slightest hint of apology. Upon entering he immediately starts blasting some tacky techno and finally ask my girlfriend to have a seat. While I waited for her in the seating area these twin rat dogs started to jump on my lap and generally make themselves right at home, Ok, annoying but no big, but what happened next was beyond belief. Rat dog one started to relieve himself right in the middle of the waiting area. After rat dog finished his thing the dude cutting my friends hair casually and arrogantly put some paper towels on the sorry mess and proceeded to wipe, No disinfectant, nothing. He than proceeded with my friends hair without even washing his hands After at what my friend described as a uneven trim on her bangs, she told me that after her rinse the towels provided to her reeked of heavy chemical residue, the towels were obviously never laundered.. You have been warned, stay away from this unhygienic dump. read more

Got my hair cut, yesterday 11/15/09. As they were not busy at that moment, I walked right in and was seated for a style asap. Carlos cut my do. He was very chatty and professional. His scissors were sharp which is a big must. He gave me the most exquisite head massage as he washed out my hair after the cut! I was groaning in the washbowl chair. Carlos even trimmed my eyebrows! Actually im not going to rate them because they dont deserve it like nothing , zero! Their service is bad, and they dont care! Came in sunday and ask for someone to cut my hair the way i wanted and they refered me to someone and they asked when can i come and i said how about tomorrow( monday). They said ok and they took my number and told me that he will call at 11 to confirm my appointment at 12. I was waiting their call the next day since 10 oclock, they called at 11:45 in the mornong asking me if i can be there at 12! What a service!!!! Then i resecheduled it on saturday and he said that i can come anytime between 10 and 1 oclock, and i was there exactly at 11:30 and what a coincedence ! it happened to be today!?? Came in the guy left, they said there is no appointment, and i waited for them to call him, but NOOOOOOO! I have to call him to reschedule my appointment again!!! seriously i sat and no one cared! If i wanted something, no one dealt with it and showed some sort of sorriness of what they did wrong! Nothing at all!!! They are such douchbags!
