So I haven't gotten my hair cut in almost a year because I'm very selective on who cuts my hair. However, Tony did a FANTASTIC job. He had answered all my questions I had about my hair and was very informative. I had found them on the unite hair products site. These products are absolutely amazing and leave your hair very smooth and silky (I have dry coarse thick curly red hair). Celebrities like Nina Dobrev also use this line and I love her gorgeous hair. Silver Lake Studio is my go-to salon in the LA area. This place has such a fun feel from the moment you walk in the door. The building is pretty much one big window, so you have an awesome people-watching view while you're getting pampered. Cherise P. is my stylist! She is super talented, and takes her time to ensure your cut and style are exactly what you're hoping for. I've heard Nancy is pretty awesome too, and Antonio has been nothing but nice every time I've been in. Whether you are looking for a simple trim, or something special and different, the stylists here will exceed your needs. You can call ahead or book online- which I always love to do. I'm sure they'll accommodate walk-ins as well, but I always prefer to schedule ahead to make sure I'm seen right away. I just had the greatest experience here. After almost a year of DIY and neglect, I snapped and started cold calling salons with decent Yelp ratings. SLS was the only salon who was open on Sunday and could book me right away. I'm so glad that they could. Rogerio (Roy) was great. He has a very laid back attitude (which clearly some people find off-putting) but he was all business when it came to my hair and I could tell after talking to him that he understood both my long term goals and what needed to be addressed immediately, based on the fried-out disaster that I presented him with. He really took his time with me and gave me an absolutely stunning haircut. I had forgotten that my hair could even look this good! I also loved the casual, friendly vibe. Reggae music playing, friends of the salon hanging out, and two sweet little dogs who were playful but not at all annoying or yappy. I invited one of them up and he snoozed on my lap through my entire blowout. So sweet!!! I will use Roy from now on as my go-to guy. This is a great place if you want real salon-style at a lower cost with no snotty hairdresser/ hipster vibe. read more

Sorry, Antonio, you are a great guy but this last haircut was one botch-up too many and I've had to go elsewhere. Your cutting seemed good but it turns out it was not technically very skilled. I didn't realize it, but your last haircut left me with a dent in the back of my hair-do where one round section was cut shorter than the surrounding hair. And your highlighting was routinely downright terrible. A few times I came out with thick tiger stripes despite asking for 'subtle highlights'. This last time was the worst and I realized I would have to find a new stylist. These highlights were far too thick, too orangey and just slapped down all in the same area. It looked like I had 1-inch orange roots - just bizarre. My new hairdresser was actually shocked by what she saw (both color and cut) when I went in for a fix-up job. Yes, when I complained to you at the time, you put additional dark toner over the roots to disguise them, which was good. But that washed right out after two weeks. If it was a one-time-only thing I'd let it slide but it was an ongoing issue. I'm sorry to say all this because you're a lovely guy and I enjoyed coming to you. read more

Antonio is the best of the best. Not only is he a total sweetheart and stayed late to accommodate me same-day, he gave me the best cut I've had in a LONG time, and a beautiful blow-out to boot! I'll start by saying that Raven is super nice and a really cool girl, Unfortunately I think, no I know, that she needs to take a class to brush up on her coloring skills. I went to her for the first time in July and loved her work, So I went back to her on Saturday. I kept telling her that I'm very conservative with my hair and I just wanted touch up blonde highlights. What I got wasn't touch up highlights! It was all over gold/brassy/ bleach hot spots. To all tone it down she put an ash toner on it, which helped the ugly gold but now, four days later, it's a weird green/ gold color. Gross! I hate it! I'm going tn to a friends hairdresser for a color correction. The whole experience took five hours. I left with wet hair and I was late to work. read more

I've been coming to SLS for about 3 years now since I moved to LA. Raven is the stylist i go and she's the best. Every time i come in I feel personally greeted by the entire salon. It's in a great space that is perfect for people watching in silverlake ! Raven has made my hair blonde, brown black.... long short etc. she always does a fantastic job with color and her precision cut always looks sharp. My last haircut/ color was a huge change, but Raven made sure to be patient and cautious with my reaction! I've been to some other salons out here and I ALWAYS ALWAYS come right back to SLS. I came here to get highlights. I should have walked out when I couldn't open my eyes while waiting for my appointment. The stylist was doing a chemical treatment on one client's hair with a fan blowing, so everyone's eyes in the salon were irritated. My stylist did not speak English, which didn't bother me. Another stylist translated, but the highlights turned out horrible. The foils bled and the color is awful. Towards the end of my appointment, the stylist's friend had come in and kept asking when they would be done so they could all go out. I just left, I didn't want to deal with it. read more

I have a large beard. I came in here off the street, asking for haircut and beard trim. long story short, the man who cut my beard did not know what he was doing, and made straight cuts with scissors of large sections of my beard. Once we started the beard trim, he would snip individual hairs. After two minutes of that exercise in ineptitude, I said that he could take more off, to which he said, "ok, so now I won't be afraid," and the grabbed a clump of beard on my cheek that he cut it straight off, without finesse or consideration for the shape of the beard, leaving me with an uneven mess I had to hire someone else to fix. They should not pretend they can cut a standard hipster beard in 2015. I won't return. read more

I hate getting my hair cut and highlighted. I never had "a" hairdresser because it's usually such a blah experience with results that never quite feel like me. UNTIL I went to this place... A girlfriend recommended it and it passed my drive-by test: no fussiness and pretension inside. Nice. Tony gave me the best cut of my problem-hair life! I have thin, straight, flat, Norwegian girl hair that's drier than Griffith Park in August--it's just hard to breathe life into. Best cut ever, I tell you. I've been going to SLS since it's been opened. My hairstylist is Antonio. He is one of the owners. He is great in his artistry and getting better and better every time when I go there. He constantly gets training to be better in his profession. He is the only hairstylist ever who gave me The JLO look perfectly. Which that is the only look that looks good on me really. I feel fresh, sexy and younger every time i leave there. He tells you what would look good on you or not. He understands the hair chemistry. He understands coloring hair. He doesn't chop your hair if you want to keep it long. I was always skeptical about having highlights because first they charge a lot for it and they always make you look cheap with extreme color shades if you don't go to a high end salon. He promised me it was not going to look how I was thinking. I trust him so I let him do the highlights. After 4 hours of hard work oh my god! It was amazing. Super natural and really sexy look I had. He is the man. The prices are fare enough for the long hard work he puts in. One of my friends goes to this hairstylist in West Side she said she pays more than $600 for the highlights, hair cut and blow dry. Mind blowing. I don't think I would ever pay that much a specially knowing that I have to go to him almost every other month to maintain the look. Anyway why would I pay that much knowing that I can get the same quality work and satisfaction paying 4/1 of the price in SLS. I didn't try the other hairstylists yet but I keep hearing good things about all of them. I don't think I would let somebody else touching my hair after many disappointments with hair stylists in many years. You know how it is! When you find a good doctor, dentist and hairstylist you should stick with them for ever :-) read more

Ademaris was my stylist a few weeks ago when I went to Silver Lake Studio. I've been a few times and always had different people who always do a good job but she was exceptional. I didn't really know what I wanted but she showed me a few pictures of what she was thinking and was always checking in to make sure it was looking how I wanted. I've gotten my hair cut short only a few times and she did the best job! I love my hair and it's all due to Ademaris' great work. Will be back to see her next time I need a cut :) read more

This is an awesome place to get your hair done! They're affordable and do a great professional job on your hair. I've gotten my hair cut, dyed, hi-lighted, shampooed, and blow dried straight AND purchased 3 hair products all for under $250! I've gotten my hair done by Tony and Oscar, and highly recommend them both (they're both eye candy by the way!). Making an appointment is recommended, especially on weekends since they have a lot of clients. I wouldn't go anywhere else and I guarantee that you won't either once you get your hair done by these guys. read more

Ha, i was looking for a new place to get a haircut and was headed to Supercuts for lack of another place...but then i remembered seeing this little studio, open late seemingly all the time. Turns out SLS is open 7 days a week and often pretty late. I gave them a call and Antonio was able to take me immediately. Antonio is one of two owners and was good at listening to what i wanted and telling me what would work and what wouldn't. Ended up with a great haircut for a great price ($21 for men), which included a rinse/shampoo at the end, a nice touch...no itchy neck on the way home! Funny tho, i think i was the only guy in there who wasn't getting an eyebrow wax too! Guess i'm not quite that 'metro', ha...but I'll definitely be going back again. read more

I really wanted to love this place, I really did, but after coming here for a haircut I felt like the place was "ehh". I'll be honest, Customer Service was great. They tended to be very quickly (well no one else was there) and they were very nice and attentive (they offered me a drink a few times, and made sure I was comfortable). But that's really it for this place. For the price I was expecting a little more; the haircut was just ok and not exactly what I asked for. I was going to a salon where my cut was 2.5x more, so when I quit my job, I decided I had better take it easy on things like haircuts. Nancy has cut my hair twice now and I'm SOLD. It's a fantastic cut that I can afford. I have thick, wavy, curly hair, and it's a nightmare to get a good cut. Nancy seems to be a perfectionist, and it pays off, because I get a great cut, and I couldn't believe it was only $24. She takes her time to get every inch right. I never feel like she wants me in and out, but she wants everything just right. This is definitely one of the best bargains in Silver Lake. High-end salon quality cut, good atmosphere, and great pricing. I plan on recommending her to other people for sure. My only complaint: I was a little surprised that she didn't have her own card, she wrote her name on the back of one of the Salon's, but for $24 a cut, I shouldn't be complaining. read more

I've been going to SLS since it opened over 2 years ago. My favorite hairstylist is Rogerio. He is really sweet and a true artist. All my sisters and friends love to go to him. A few of my friends drive all the way from Moorpark just to have him cut their hair. He gives so much care to his clients. I always get so many compliments after I get my haircut from him. The prices are totally affordable!! I get my hair cut, dyed, blow dried, and my eyebrows done all for $110. I've also got my makeup done and he did a great job. He's always accomodating to my schedule and has stayed opened for me way past their closing time. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to look and feel gorgeous! But make sure you call ahead since they can be busy. Btw, i always notice people really like the job that tony (antonio) and oscar do so you won't walk away disappointed. read more

They don't rush through a hair cut like they do at some of the chain salons and their prices are very affordable. Best haircut of my entire life! I hadn't done highlights in a year and needed a haircut... Antonio did a simply wonderful jobs with the highlights (not too bright, not too large, just perfect) and recommended a bob (a little longer than usual, since I am really not the short hair kind of girl). Fabolous result. AND he shaped my eyebrows. $110 total... AMAZING. While I was there (3 hours!) I also saw the other hair stylists were very good too. My hair is lopsided and way way way shorter than what I had wanted and told him. He also scalded me with his burning hot blow drier as was mentioned in a previous post. Not only that, but my when I arrive he had just started cutting someone elses hair. He comes over to me and asks who my apt was was with at 11, dumbfounded and I said Im not sure someone whose name begins with the letter R. And he said, oh that's me. (He apparently forgot though I had made it the DAY BEFORE). II asked if I would have to wait 45 minutes after about 10 had elapsed for him to finish this other person. The receptionist started washing my hair until he was ready. Bad experience, not recommended. I left in tears and nothing ruins your weekend like a bad haircut. I agree, go to Refuge. read more

I brought in a Pinterest board I created with photos of what I was looking to do, and Raven was able to replicate exactly what I wanted. I went to Silver Lake Studio to get a cut and color. The cut I wanted was simple but I wanted a more difficult color. Raven was my stylist, she understood what I was imagining, asked plenty of questions to make sure I got what I wanted, and took adequate time for my requests. Not only did I end up with really nice highlights, I was also very pleased with my ombré into bright orange at the ends, the color she used worked very well with my natural brunette color. At first I was disappointed with the cut and color. I am happier with the cut after leaving the salon and taking more time with it. The color is not quite correct b/c he thought I wanted the color to match my ends instead of what I wanted (the color to match my roots). I can only review them for haircut (men's). I'm the kind of guy who usually likes his hair when just cut, and hates it from the next day until the next time it's cut. Just seems nobody gets my hair, and I'd been sort of hopping around Silverlake-area salons. I happened on Silver Lake Studio. Farel cut me hair a month ago (and again today). He *immediately* saw what was wrong with the prior haircut (and was right), and knew how far we could go to fix that up. The cut a month ago was great and looked good, but did need to grow out of the prior cut (as he'd said it would). So today got a second and now-no-compromise cut in which Farel really took some time and care with a lot of details. This may be the best cut in a very long time - or ever. At $24.00, this was a steal. I've paid more for a lot less. Highly recommended. read more
