I'm all for supporting black owned businesses. Small businesses at that. This day, I waited in line for over an hour to order. Unsure of what to order considering you have to get on top of the window where you order to even see what you could want. Due to the amount of people behind me, I felt a sense of urgency to make a decision on what to pick. Maybe had I not felt so rushed, I would've picked something more appetizing in my opinion. The chicken and dressing was salty. The Mac and cheese was good, I prob could have just ordered the sides and been content with a "main." The sweet potatoes were pretty good, seemed to have a little extra nutmeg than I like, but definitely edible. The hot water cornbread was prob the star of the show for me! Don't get just 1. I definitely want to go back and give this establishment another opportunity on a much slower day. You can tell that this establishment has history and the owner is well respected within the community. I do encourage you to support the business in hopes that you get something you enjoy to eat. The employees here are very friendly and hard at work to ensure prompt service.

Delicious Beef Liver (Tuesday, Thursday Only), collard greens, white beans, mashed potatoes, and a hot water roll.

Delicious home cooked food. This is one of the best lunch joints in Nashville, with a nice variety of offerings that change daily. On my most recent visit, I had the beef liver. Yes, I know most people don't like liver, but theirs is cooked in a delicious gravy that keeps it tender and delicious. It was some of the best liver I've ever had, and the portion size was large. I added white beans, mashed potatoes, and collard greens. All were super fresh and delicious. The restaurant itself is not very large, but the tables are not often completely full. The staff is super friendly and the restaurant is kept nice and clean. I highly recommend Silver Sands for lunch.

Hubby and I were passing through Nashville on a Sunday, and he wanted soul food. We Googled the restaurant, so we really didn't know what we were walking into. And this brings me to my mixed review. There were 2 lines. One line was for ordering, and you could see the food set up like buffet style. And a 2nd line to pay. Would you believe that I gave my order for smothered pork chops, greens and yams. But the 2nd line to pay was so long that they were out of smothered pork chops and greens by the time we got to the register. So I ended up with fried pork chops, green beans, and yams. And it was FANTASTIC! Perfectly Seasoned! But once you get your food, you can stay or go, but you are definitely on your own... lol. So I gave a 3 because it was chaotic, but the food was amazing.

I finally made it here for a meal!!! A few years ago I was able to snag a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit right before jumping on the highway heading north. Last year I was in town during 4th of July weekend and rushed here just as empty handed someone was walking out telling me that they ran out of food! Didn't even bother checking for myself, turned on my heels and jumped back in the car. I had chicken, apples, coleslaw and lemonade and made myself at home in one of the booths and watched tv as I ate. Good vibe

Unfortunately, while the food was visually appealing, the quality did not match the presentation. The women serving upfront were ok. I ordered the fried pork chop with turnip greens, mac and cheese, dressing, and a cornbread muffin. The pork chop was heavily battered and overwhelmingly salty, with little flavor beyond salt. The mac and cheese tasted artificial, as though processed cheese was used. The turnip greens were tender but lacked seasoning and tasted as if they had simply been boiled in water. The cornbread muffin was dry, hard, and bland. The dressing was also very disappointing and lacked flavor. Overall, the meal was extremely underwhelming and not representative of good home-style cooking. I was disappointed with both the quality and taste of the food, especially considering the restaurant's branding. After only a few bites, I discarded the meal entirely. Based on this experience, I would not return or recommend this restaurant. In my heart of hearts, this place gets zero stars...however, I believe that I have to give at least one star.

It's been around for many…read moreyears--in fact, it was a go-to spot for my husband and his frat brothers while they were in college. My husband spoke very highly of this place. He and his frat came here all the time and even knew the original owners, who were welcoming and provided good customer service. Now that it's been under new management for several years, I wanted to check it out for myself and see if it still had the same energy and vibe he described. I usually order the whiting sandwich with everything, and it never disappoints. The fish is always hot, well-breaded, and nicely seasoned. You can order it crispy or regular--just let them know at the beginning when placing your order. The portion sizes are generous. I typically get mine with onions, cheese, hot sauce, mustard, and pickles. If you want extras, there's a small up charge, and if you'd like other fixings, just ask--they're accommodating. I'm not a picky eater and like everything on my sandwich--I love all the flavors bursting at the seams and complementing one another. You pay at the window once you're in line. It's primarily a drive-thru setup, though you can walk in if you prefer. Typically, someone will take your order as you drive up. Lines are usually packed, especially on weekends, but in my opinion, they have great hours. Just be prepared to wait in your car for a bit--though they move things along efficiently and keep the drive-thru line moving. It's a true no-frills neighborhood spot in a community with deep roots, and I'm sure it brings back memories for many who attended college in the area or grew up nearby. It's also well-known enough that out-of-towners make a point to stop by for a sandwich or dinner. Pro tip: Check their hours and take a quick look at the menu ahead of time so you're ready to order when you pull up! So enjoy, my fellow fried fish lovers go ahead and place your order, I think you'll like it over there! And check out my two photos so you can see what I'm talking about.
