The restaurant has a very basic, cafeteria-style setup offering a "meat and two sides" menu, with nothing particularly memorable about the atmosphere. Unfortunately, while the food was visually appealing, the quality did not match the presentation. The women serving upfront were ok. I ordered the fried pork chop with turnip greens, mac and cheese, dressing, and a cornbread muffin. The pork chop was heavily battered and overwhelmingly salty, with little flavor beyond salt. The mac and cheese tasted artificial, as though processed cheese was used. The turnip greens were tender but lacked seasoning and tasted as if they had simply been boiled in water. The cornbread muffin was dry, hard, and bland. The dressing was also very disappointing and lacked flavor. Overall, the meal was extremely underwhelming and not representative of good home-style cooking. I was disappointed with both the quality and taste of the food, especially considering the restaurant's branding. After only a few bites, I discarded the meal entirely. Based on this experience, I would not return or recommend this restaurant. In my heart of hearts, this place gets zero stars...however, I believe that I have to give at least one star. read more

This is the worst food I have even tried to eat. We ordered through doordash. We got the fish and country fried steak. It was so bad we had to throw it away. I called the restaurant and they were supposed to call me back and never did! It cost $42 I should of just threw the money out the window. Ordered thru door dash. The order was mostly correct. They subbed my cabbage for green beans. I had the pot roast with cabbage (beans) and pintos. My husband had fried chicken, Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. He said the potatoes were the only part of his meal that wasn't great. Chicken was juicy and seasoned well. For me: positives were very tender roast, sweet carrots and pintos were thick and delicious. Negatives were the very dry cornbread and subbing something out without contacting me. On the order form, there's a choice to substitute, cancel or call if a substitute needs to be made. I checked "call" because I have a lot of food sensitivities. They didn't. Anyway, everything else was good. The blackberry cobbler was to die for. As far as ambiance - no clue. I came in not knowing what to expect, I've always seen this place but never tried it until recently. I had already ordered a pizza next door but I came in because I saw on a sign that said banana pudding. I came in and was immediately greeted and the worker who asked what we wanted I said my order. it smelled AMAZING I wanted more than pudding. It is very quiet in there (at least when I came) and they had tv's on playing The Price is Right which I love. I recommend coming in here and I look forward to come and try more food. read more

The food was good and the portion size was very nice. I do have a problem with the restaurant charging customers an "Admin fee of 2.5%" for using your debit card. This is a fee charged to businesses from the bank that they are passing along to customers who are already leaving a tip. When I inquired about this fee, the gentleman actually tried to tell me, the bank charges this to customers so I had to correct him and let him know, the bank charges you, and you pass that fee to your customers. So, if you don't mind paying their fees AND leaving a tip, then H & T's Home Cooking is your place. read more

My family and I went to this restaurant expecting the same quality we experienced when the original owners owned this building. Though regular wings were advertised, we received small, cheap wings. When we asked for a refund multiple times, they did not give us one and did not seem to care about the poor quality of the food. I was surprised by their apathy. Additionally, part of my cheesy grits were hard. The cornbread was hard on the outside, and the green beans were very salty. The ice cream was like snow mixed with milk and sugar, like a slushy consistency. The crust in the peach cobbler was not fully cooked. I wish this place had the same quality as it did as before and had great customer service, but this is not the case anymore. read more

Oh my.....not only the array of great looking food, but the proprietor, Nelson, couldn't have been more accomodating! Every time I go in there, the manager is always on her phone, the server was on her phone as I was trying to decide what to get bur was nice enough when I made up my mind. For an almost deaf person, popping gum and trying to hear what the server was saying behind the hanging plexiglass was extremely hard. But she was nice. I, as a single person, found the prices to he a little high. Went in with a $20 and left with nothing. So, for me and any other singles, there should read $$ instead of one for a plate to go. After I paid I went to the table next to me to put food in a bag and my potatoes with gravy fell on the floor. I cleaned up the mess and threw the old container in the closest trash, and I thought the manager was going to have a fit. But the server was nice and got me another one. Do not be fooled with this thinking you will be pleased if you are not a local, I was awful. Service was good, very pushy on up selling more of there tasteless food, but the staff was nice. The one star is to counter the four stars they currently have because I literally found the food awful which is the truth for me. Usually when visiting cities I want to try local restaurants and steer clear of chains. Sunday evening 9/1/19 I wanted vegetables and started my search for soul food. It was a toss up between H&T and one other restaurant. Decided to come here based on good sweet tea and cabbage. Now, I don't know if y'all Nashville folks have a different expectation for good sweet tea and cabbage or I just chose to try theirs on the wrong Sunday or what? Pricing was definitely reasonable. I went out on a limb to try chicken and dressing with cabbage and carrots. The best thing on my plate was the carrots and cranberry sauce. The gravy tasted like the jar version of Heinz chicken gravy. Wasn't too sure about the chopped up chicken pieces and dressing. I can't make dressing very well and I prefer mine. The carrots were slightly sweet and I liked. Now back to the cabbage....it had to go. And the teas tasted spoiled. Requested grape koolaid. That was yummy! Mrs. Hattie was nice once she realized we weren't locals and my mom I believe forced her into a convo. Mommy didn't order food she opted for lemon cake....to go. That cake was good. It was moist and good like the ones my mom used to bake for me. I was surprise of their late Sunday hours. Which worked out great for me as it was after 6pm. Ordered delivery from postmates today for dinner instead of cooking & I must say...I'm oh so glad I did. Some of the best soul food, I've had in nashville honestly. I got the chicken & dressing, green beans, & macaroni. The caramel cake I got for dessert was moist but the caramel icing needed some work. I could tell it was made from scratch but the icing was on the stove slightly too long which made it dark w/ a slightly bitter taste. All in all, I will certainly eat there again soon. Someone tell me why it is so hard to find good catfish in this city! I need answers--today. I grew up on "fish" being catfish-not tilapia, not whiting, swai, etc, so anytime advertises they have fish, my antenna shoots up and all kinds of alarms and bells immediately go off. Before you judge or assume I'm being dramatic, the first time I assumed "fish" meant catfish, I bit into a whiting sandwich and almost wrecked my car.
