It is a three-minute drive to the park entrance and is also close to Cooke City, the neighboring town. I spent three nights here and was pleased to be close to Lamar and the wildlife--on previous visits to the park, I had stayed inside Yellowstone, closer to the geysers and hot springs. The lodge has motel room and cabins. The rooms are quite basic. I was hoping for a microwave in my motel room but had to walk to the next building to find one in a common area. The tavern nearby has good but not great food. The general store is quite well-stocked with snacks and souvenirs. It is also the only location that has internet access--you do not have internet connectivity in the motel rooms or cabins. Five stars to the staff at the store, especially Tom who is an expert on the area and generous with his advice. You will find him sitting by the outdoor fire in the evening hours. I will be back here next time I visit Lamar Valley. For location alone, this lodge is worth the stay.

The dining area provided a wonderful start to the day with a cup of coffee and a gorgeous view of the mountains. The propane grill off the back deck made dinnertime easy. The bedrooms were spacious and the whole house was equipped like the finest hotel. Horseback riding, white water rafting and fabulous hikes are all a short drive away. As soon as we walked in we could smell propane which made the kids want to leave before they got sick. We stuck it out as we didn't have options and it was late. Some 110 outlets did not work. The batteries were dead in a smoke detector so had to call them to bring batteries. Bedding smelled bad to the point that the kids layer clothes on bed to lay on top of. Would not stay here again.

We had one outside bed in lower living room and needed an extra bed for my son. The staff was extremely friendly and helped us with a small foldable foam bed. House was well maintained and we had no complaints. One small suggestion would be if they could put out a garbage disposable outside or behind the house that can be easily identifiable. We initially struggled a bit to spot the garbage disposal box.

We had plenty of room for everyone. Of the 8 bedrooms, 6 have king size beds, and two of them have private full baths. There are 3 additional full baths for the others. The cabin itself is pretty new, so everything was clean and in working order. The location is very close to the west entrance to the park, and is convenient to downtown shops and restaurants. The kitchen had plenty of plates, silverware, pots and pans, etc. I was especially impressed with the quality of the pots and pans, very nice for a rental. The cabin also has a full sized washer and dryer, which was very convenient. The WIFI was available, but I have to say it is not very fast. Considering the location, this was not too surprising. There were no problems with billing, or unexpected charges. Overall a great choice for a large party, I highly recommend this location!

It is in Emigrant a small town that boasts a great bakery and great BBQ in the warm season. To get to and from the Cabin you drive through the Chico Hot Springs Resort. In addition to hot springs Chico has a riding stable and adventure company for white water, scenic floats and hiking. This is nice if you don't want to drive to Gardiner some days. There is also a nice hike to a falls just up the road from the cabin. The cabin itself was excellent. We were there on some hot days and the cabin stayed cool if you closed the blinds as instructed. There was a full kitchen and while fussy cook husband might have wanted sharper knives for prep work he managed to make some fine meals. He also used the charcoal grill but the black flies were thick in the heat. Better him than me! Happily the long porch facing the stream is fully screened. No biting things there. The porch had a casual dining table and glider bench. The cabin had two bedrooms and one and a half baths. The half bath was in a utility room which included a washer and dryer. Priceless! There was also a comfy living room with two sofas and a glider chair. We never used the TV but it was there too. The cabin had wifi thankfully because there wasn't much cell reception. Basically it was a great place to get away, listen to the creek at night and relax.

The chili, I can honestly say beat mine, and I make a damn good chili! Just the right amount of heat and the jalapeño cornbread added just the right texture. Bison strip in bourbon garlic sauce was the best meal I have had in a really long time. The vegetable served with it was perfectly cooked and fresh!
