We had about a 20-minute wait, which wasn't a big deal, so we decided to grab a drink at the bar. Unfortunately, despite several barbacks working, no one was available to actually serve drinks, so we ended up waiting longer than expected. Once we were seated, the atmosphere was great and our server was friendly and attentive. The food was good, although it arrived a little lukewarm. We came here on a Wednesday evening. The host seemed really frazzled and was unsure if he could seat us. They were able to seat several tables of 2, but we were a party of 3 and a baby so I guess that's difficult here. We decided to go elsewhere and would try to come back here another day. The host recommended we try to come before 530 cause they get really busy after that. We ended up coming the following day for a late lunch. It was a whole different experience and vibe. The (same) host seemed way more relaxed probably cause they were close to closing for their mid day break and it wasn't busy at all. I Our server was attentive and the food was great. We were able to get a chicken breast and French fries for my 1 year old baby (who has a bland and picky palate). This makes mom happy. I had the best salad with chicken. Fantastic! Husband had the bison pork sausage sandwich, he loved it. Mother in law had the Mac n cheese, she also enjoyed it. The wonderland beer was great, definitely recommend it especially since it's made specifically for the restaurant. If you're a part of more than 2 people it's probably best to go early in the day like we were told. I'd definitely eat here again if we come back to the area. read more

Tried the elk and bison chili here and it was so good, hearty, packed with meat, tomatoes, and beans, served with jalapeño cornbread on the side (sweet with a little kick, plus butter and honey for dipping). Also got the bison burger with cheese and bacon, and the patty was juicy with a great sear, def a nice change from a regular beef burger. We stopped into Wonderland Cafe and it ended up being a great stop just outside the Roosevelt Arch entrance of Yellowstone. The town itself is quaint, and this felt like a perfect place to grab a bite before heading into the park. We ordered the wild game chili, which was really flavorful and hearty, along with the loaded tots, which were a fun addition to the meal. Inside, the space has great decor with local artwork that adds to the overall feel of the place. It felt welcoming and fit the area well. Wonderland is a gem! Employees in the store in Mammoth recommended Wonderland when we asked about a place to eat and stay nearby. Very friendly people and excellent food. We tried the garlic bread, a flatbread with goat cheese, prosciutto, peaches and the wild game chili. The flatbread was surprisingly a bit bland for us but the garlic bread with the pesto & balsamic glaze was DE-licious. And do not miss ordering the chili. We were in Gardiner for touristy activities. I packed a cheese sandwich for lunch not expecting to find a 'safe' gluten free place to eat. Lo and behold... Wonderland Cafe appeared! They have a variety of GF items. I ordered buffet style so I could sample different things. (I'm not use to having so many choices.) I had the pulled pork sandwich, GF mac & cheese and jalapeño corn bread. The pork is cooked with apples and onions it is not BBQ style but is still good. The cheese in the mac & cheese was delightful, they use the GF fat penne for the noodles. The cornbread was the star of the GF show today. It was gone in just a few minutes. (The gluteners I was with enjoyed it just as much as me.) I really enjoyed eating here and appreciate not only having GF options but feeling food safe while I eat. Be prepared, it is very busy and was on the noisy side just because of the crowd. Even though it was extremely busy the waiter patiently answered all of my Gaf questions. We came in really hungry and had to wait for a little bit to get seated so we were staring at the bakery case and decided to get an everything cream cheese scone. That was the best tasting scone I've ever had! We started off with the garlic bread and it comes out on a pesto. It was toasted just right and has just a splash of balsamic glaze that added the best balance. Whole cloves of roasted garlic on there too! The chili, I can honestly say beat mine, and I make a damn good chili! Just the right amount of heat and the jalapeño cornbread added just the right texture. Bison strip in bourbon garlic sauce was the best meal I have had in a really long time. The vegetable served with it was perfectly cooked and fresh! The night we visited for dinner, a three-piece "country" band was playing and added to the fun, lively atmosphere. A great spot for my last meal in Gardiner, Wonderland Cafe is one of those places where locals and out-of-towners easily blend together. Our group of six (four locals) had a variety of dishes and drinks, and the vibe was relaxed and welcoming. I opted for the Tequila Lime Grilled Chicken, which had a great flavor, but the lime cream sauce was a bit overwhelming in amount--it covered the plate pretty generously, and could've been dialed back a bit as it was like a smother instead of an accompaniment. The addition of color--a lime wedge or fresh cilantro, a hunk of jalapeno cornbread from the appetizer portion of the menu --could have helped the dish overall. That said, Wonderland Cafe is a place with a solid local following, and I could definitely see myself returning next time--though I'll likely try something different on the menu. read more

I genuinely don't know where to start with this review because everything here was EXCEPTIONAL. From the service to the food to the general ambience this was my absolute best eating experience near Yellowstone! Do yourselves a favor and just eat here for the entire duration of your stay. It is the ONLY place with actual edible/delicious food in the area. I ate here twice today I got a banana muffin and a caramel macchiato for breakfast and it actually really blew me away. The coffee was perfect not too sweet and the espresso was perfect. My muffin was so fresh and delicious I devoured it. My experience this morning was so good I came back for dinner. I got the vegetarian pasta which was delicious and full of so much flavor I added grilled chicken it was cooked perfect. I also had the Montana burger and it was so so good the buffalo sauce on it was so delicious the onion ring inside was crispy and fresh and the fries were seasoned perfect. I also ordered the huckleberry mimosa-delicious! Lauren was my server and she was so funny and sweet she had me dying of laughter and her energy was just amazing and so refreshing after a long day exploring Yellowstone. This is a cafe restaurant that is part of the lodge. I would definitely look into staying here in the future if I visit Yellowstone again. But I'm sure it's pricey being so close to the North entrance. It was a busy Thurs night and the 5 of us were informed it would be close to 45 mins wait and they were right. We did some souvenir shopping across the street and also got huckleberry ice cream while waiting. For dinner, I got the cortado salad with chicken and it was great. We were told many times to try the bison burger while in Yellowstone, however it's just not for our taste. A bit too dense and not the fault of the restaurant. Our group did enjoyed very much sharing elk chili and the fried cheese curd. Both were delicious! Our waitress refilled our water couple times and was attentive. Our friend was craving mac and cheese and was hoping to do takeout when we drove by the next day. I'm reading other reviews now due to staff shortage take out is suspended which is understandable. Went on a weekday evening for dinner. The place was very busy and we were told it was a 45 min wait. Thankfully the actual wait was more like 15 min, and you can easily pass the time browsing at the nearby shops. The food was actually very good, highly recommend the bison ravioli. Portions are not that large though and it is pricey. Nice ambiance though and very nicely decorated inside. The only downside is I felt that they rushed us out, brought the check immediately after taking our plates. Visiting Yellowstone during off season for vacation looking for a place for dinner and found Wonderland that hit the spot. A fantastic meal at the end of the day topped it off to be a perfect day. The ribeye is made with beef tallow and pairs nicely with mashed potatoes and veggies that is enjoyed with the steak. They have an IPA made specific for Wonderland which was tasty and good. I paired that with the steak and was savoring every bite. Excellent food, now let's talk service. The folks working there were all superb and made it their goal that you are more than satisfied with the taste of the food and drink. Sadly every vendor in Montana on my trip has had a military discount, except Wonderland. But they have a buddy board where people can buy gift certificates for others. You can purchase any $ amount for a specific person or be generic. I thought it would be fun to put $ on the buddy board for a veteran. Pay it forward type of thing.
