The new studio is really great. With an entire wall of windows, there is a seasonal panorama that is very soothing and restful. The floor was beautifully done. Shauna also offers such a wide variety of classes, both day and evening, weekday and weekend, that I can always find a class that fits my schedule. And while I know that the COVID-19 pandemic challenged us all, Shauna and her staff worked hard to maintain the class schedule. During quarantine, having this outlet several times a week was so important to me. I have practiced all over the DMV, and love this small, friendly studio. The teachers and practices are quite diverse, with different perspectives on yoga represented. If you want to relax into a long posture, they got you. If you want to drip with sweat, they got you. On top of the yoga practice, there are a wide range of "extras" surprising for a small studio. I started attending Simon Says Yoga last summer with my father, and it has been a transformative experience for me. The classes are challenging (but not too difficult), fun and inclusive. Plus, the instructors are approachable, and eager to engage with and support students in their yoga practice! I've never once felt singled out for "not being able to do something." I especially appreciate the moments when instructors add their own unique twists, such as live performances or taking requests from participants on what they would like to work on. I've been attending Shauna Simon's new yoga studio in the Glen Echo Shopping Center since it opened about a year ago. It's always a delight to enter the warm, friendly space, where there is a small shop selling everything from yoga clothing to beautiful artwork. The studio itself is spacious with a wall of windows looking out on nature, soothing lavender walls and clean, bright floors. Shauna has a wide variety of yoga props that can be used, so you don't have to bring your own. I love Shauna's Super Gentle Yoga Class, which is attended by a group of ten or so folks of different ages. The studio has numerous other offerings taught by excellent teachers who lead classes in Pilates, Zumba, Reiki and more. There are classes for all levels, and the instructors are superb. read more

I started with SS Yoga about five weeks ago as a complete beginner, and can't see going anywhere else. In my short time there I have had several instructors, and liked them all. Shauna, the owner, stands out for me since I have had the benefit of her individual help. There are a variety of class offerings covering all skill levels. The classes I have been attending have been perfect for me, and I know that I am progressing thanks to the attention of the instructors. Simon Says Yoga is a very welcoming place. The studio is great with every supply available (mats, blankets, straps, pads, etc.). The music during the classes adds a calming touch, and the sound bath is something to be experienced. I've been to quite a few yoga studios in the Montgomery County area & this is definitely not on the top of my list. Given the size of the space, there aren't a lot of class offerings so that's my biggest gripe. Other studios I've been to offer a much better variety. A Groupon purchase brought me here months ago & I've been to about a dozen classes so far; unfortunately, I probably won't be back. Yes I have attended 3 classes at your yoga studio, and your response- dripping with hostility and defensiveness does nothing to help me think I should try another class and is why I'm using initials so I am not harassed by your friends and clients. You can prioritize your business selling colonized yoga and I can prioritize an authentic yoga studio that is inclusive and safe for all. You can and should do better but that's your choice. Do you acknowledge the harm that your business inflicts? Your teacher described yoga poses using incorrect sanskrit for example and many positions were not explained correctly per the benefits or what its accomplishing layers inside the body and most all of the associated breath work was not included. I was looked up and down when I arrived but not welcomed, I was literally the only non white person in the room but you expect me to ignore all things I find important to protect your "small business" but you have no expectations of YOURSELF to respect other cultures??? Love the prenatal yoga class here on Sundays at noon. The studio is small, but fits the 8-10 students who come, perfectly. You can sign up in advance online or just show up. Simon Says also has the most reasonable rates in Montgomery Co for prenatal yoga, because you are allowed to use a Groupon or new student rates. That makes it totally worth the 25 min drive for me, from Rockville. Prior to coming here, I had only ever practiced yoga at an upscale gym for employees and family members at a big software company in Silicon Valley. I was used to that gym providing mats, blankets, and blocks--I was pleasantly surprised that Simon Says Yoga does this, too. read more

I especially enjoy the class on Wednesday mornings with Sarah. There are some other great teachers such as Robin who was the first teacher in the studio. I've had one bad one but I think she was a substitute and not a regular one. The only reason I'm giving four stars as opposed to 5 is because Starbucks is next door and they blast their music pretty high. However, recently I personally took my time to speak to Starbucks before going to the class and that has really helped. I recently started going to yoga more regularly, to balance out Crossfit, and help with stress levels. The studio is very clean, nice and warm, and people are very conscious about being quiet. The teachers are very good, I especially like Rajiv who is very hands on. There are plenty of props and mats available for use, sometimes even aromatherapy. I am very happy with this studio, and also enjoy that is so close to home and cost effective. I wish that there were more classes scheduled, especially during the evenings because I work quite far from home, and it's tough to get anywhere before 6:30pm. Shauna Simon is a lovely person and a great yoga teacher who has truly made this space a warm, nurturing environment that welcomes all ages and levels of experience. I love this yoga school. The teacher's and owners are kind, knowledgeable and loving. It makes you feel like you are part of a family and a true sense of community. I am from Los Angeles and truly miss the connection that a community provides. They have a bunch of fun workshops every month and I only wish I could attend more of them. I came to Simon Says based on word of mouth of a friend and could not be happier with this discovery. Why? Because, for the first time in my adult life, I actually like going to classes. Why? First, the studio. The studio is very welcoming and nothing about it is intimidating. It is clean. There is natural light. There is parking other stores are around it to make it easy to combine a trip to the studio with other errands. Second, personalized scheduling. You can buy a pass which is good for 10 classes over a few months and then decide what classes fit into your schedule from day to day- so you are not committing to a particular class each week. (This allows me to fit classes into my work and personal schedule which can vary constantly.) Third, and most importantly there are some great instructors. Two of the pilates instructors I have taken classes with consistently give great and varying verbal cues, interspersed here and there with visual cues, to help you to understand what the moves are about and how they should feel so that the quality of your efforts increase very quickly. By knowing there are two instructors who are great, I have more classes to pick from so I am able to work this into my weekly schedule. Further, they make a huge effort to know your name and remember any issues/limitations you have with your body and so far I have had no induring pains or injuries, unlike at other studios. I did not appreciate her speaking negatively about me or hearing her speak about other people when really all I wanted to do was practice yoga. My daughter Nancy LOVES Simon Says Yoga and has been at the yoga kids camp for 3 years in a row and comes to both the June & August sessions. Its a place that radiates love and the teachers & young interns that work with the kids are very competent. My daughter is so flexible now & is learning meditation early! I bought an online, grouponish, deal for this studio. I have been to 2 classes so far and am in love. I have never enjoyed yoga so much. The atmosphere is calm and clean. Parking is not an issue. The instructors are welcoming, calm and extremelly helpful and knowledgeable. There are meditation classes on Sunday nights, which I have not tried yet, but will definitely try very soon. I have a pregnant friend who is having so struggles in her last trimester, so I'm going to get her a pass for a prenatal yoga class. I highly suggest this studio. SSY has some of the BEST workshops out there. I don't live very close but feel like it is SO worth the trip.
