Losing a loved one, especially a daughter is about the hardest thing one would have to go through. Yet, Simple Cremation made the process a lot easier than I anticipated. They are not a full-service funeral home, and they are also not priced like one. We called one place and their fee was pretty expensive, but what really turned us off was when they said they would match anyone else for price. If I wanted Wal-Mart or a car dealership, that wouldn't have seemed so offensive. Simple Cremation is just that, simple. They treated our situation with dignity and kindness at a fair price. This is not an easy occupation, and those of us who lost a loved one have raw emotions. I felt that they took this into account when dealing with us. read more

Simple Cremations does not (even for an additional fee) notify Social Security of a death. This means the next of kin must perform this task. Form SSA-2872 has been retired, so there is no form you can fill out. You cannot report the death online. Your only options are physically going to the local Social Security office or making a phone call. Since Elon Musk's DOGE cuts, wait times on the phone can be long. I just reported a death and had to wait on hold for over two hours. Mortuaries can report a death relatively easily. All it takes is filling out and mailing a Form SSA-21. But that's too much work for Simple Cremations. They can't be bothered. read more

Let's face it, but it is never easy to plan for a cremation, especially for you 27 year old daughter, but as the name says, Simple Cremation makes it as painless as possible. For the most part the whole process is on line, so you can make choices and deal with the details without having to go through it with a person, which can be so difficult when all you want to do is cry. They were professional and caring and explained things when necessary. There are some parts that need to be one on one with an individual, but they were so caring and made it so understandable that it made the whole process bearable. And then in all honesty, the cost was dramatically less than some of the other funeral/cremation places, by about 60% less. It's a cremation! If you do not need a lot of the other viewing, reception, and other options that are available, it is a nice option. read more

If I could rate this place a 0 I would. This place was absolutely horrible to us when my dad unexpectedly passed away. They were extremely pushy about paperwork, despite the fact that they kept sending it back with errors. And then we would be told very snottily that it was our fault. After a bunch of back and forth, Matt refused to help and said we would need to transport my dad's body to a different place because he was not going to perform services. In another comment, someone pointed out that he will try to quote the law at you, but Matt literally has no idea what he is talking about. I had to call the Vegas office where I was able to speak with a reasonable person. I am not sure what conversation she had with Matt, but suddenly it was not an issue to finish cremation services for my dad. Please do not go into a business where you have to serve people who are in grief. Matt, you need to choose a new profession. In a time of great crisis for our family, you were another source of misery. It is not too late to change professions and it would be for the greater good of our community if you were not apart of any person's grieving process. When my grandma passed away recently, we use Truckee Meadows Cremation and Burial and not only were they so much more sensitive to our situation, THEY WERE CHEAPER. read more

It has taken me nearly four years to write this review. When my husband passed away hospice recommended Simple Cremations. My husband was not cremated for almost a month. You can imagine how distressing that would be. When he was finally cremated we went to pick up his ashes and we received someone else's ashes. Luckily the woman in the car next to us received my husbands. I may not have really noticed but I could hear her in the next car filled with grief and sobbing. My daughter said mom this isn't dad! Of course they apologized and I was in such a fog that I just wanted to get my husband home. I know I should have written this review sooner but I just didn't have the energy. The length of time my poor husband stayed in storage and the giving out of the wrong ashes just has never left my memory. I think things happen and I don't have anger any more. I do not recommend simple cremation. Going through this process is difficult enough without having to work with uncaring , impolite people. Matt help me with my mothers remains. He was cold and aloof. A little bit rude sometimes. And I particularly disliked being told to come back in One hour cause I didn't have an appointment to pick up ashes. When I came back in an hour I sat in the waiting room for 25 minutes. Nobody aknowledged I was there. And I had to sit there and listen to another family's details of their funeral arrangements. Worst place ever! Was greeted by a horrible man who said "You can't come in here without an appointment". My father had just passed hours before. The family decided to have him moved to another Cremation Service who showed us kindness and compassion from the moment we called. This place never called us and does not answer their phones. Just to clarify, you showed up at our office at approximately 11am for arrangements for your father we had picked up that same morning without a phone call or setting an appointment. Matt, our licensed Arranger, explained that he could set an appointment for you at 2 or 3 that same afternoon as he already had families scheduled till then. In fact, his 11am appointment was sitting in the lobby watching this exchange as you argued with him and demanded that you be seen immediately AND that you didn't care about any other families. He explained again that he could see you this same afternoon or if you would rather, you could use our website to make arrangements at your convenience. You then stormed out screaming that you would use someone else. We are sorry for your loss but we refuse to be treated in such a manner. Used Simple Cremation 2 years ago for my husband, and received excellent service, so I was disappointed recently when we returned to them to take care of our mother. Our appointment to make arrangements took place the morning after her passing, and we a) informed the mortuary director of her primary physician in order to expedite the signing of the death certificate; and b) my sister ordered a small urn to hold a portion of the ashes. Two weeks later, the death certificate was still unsigned. Nearly a week after that, when I called to confirm that the cremation had taken place, the assistant (the mortuary director was and had been on vacation) told me that, nearly 3 weeks after our appointment, the urn had still not been ordered, but the ashes were ready for pickup. That was on a Friday. When we arrived in the office the following Monday, the ashes were still at the crematorium, and the urn was "on the way" from the monument company in Minnesota. The mortuary director advised us that we could drive out to the crematorium ourselves if we "insisted" on having the ashes that day, that he had been on vacation, and that he couldn't be expected to "follow up" and notify the doctor that the death certificate was available for signature or to order the urn without prompting calls from the family. I think we can actually be forgiven for thinking it was his job to do those things, not ours. We're not experienced in the mortuary business, after all...and if there was going to be a delay because he had a vacation planned, then he should have told us that at the beginning. Simple Cremation IS capable of handling their business smoothly and promptly, which made it more disappointing and frustrating when they didn't. We wanted to lay our mother to rest, not wait nearly a month for no good reason to receive her ashes, wait longer for the death ceritifcate, and wait on an urn they forgot to order three weeks before. read more

A few days after a family member's mother died, these people threatened him that they would charge "RENT" for storing the body if he didn't hurry up and fill out their paperwork (which included paying a lot of money at the end of that paperwork). How rude, inconsiderate, and shameful! Then they wanted almost $200 to send the ashes of his mother to him, claiming that that was the only option because they have a contract with their shipper or something. Then after he does as demanded by this company (paperwork and pay) and waits for the ashes, about 2 weeks later, no ashes. The reason Simple Cremation gives when asked where the ashes are? "These things take time." Why the threat to charge for body rent then if you are going to take weeks before even doing the cremation? Oh, right, because you wanted your money PRONTO. We went to the Sparks location for my fathers arrangements. I spoke to Morgan about a month prior to start the process because we knew my Dad's passing was imminent, he was polite, sensitive, courteous and compassionate. When we arrived at his location at our scheduled appointment time, it was very private and pleasant. Always asking if we had any questions to which we responded, "not at this time but can I call you when some arise?", he answered politely that we can contact him at anytime. My one critique is that after several conversations with Morgan, we were not aware of everything that they have to offer, i.e., Memorial Cards. But my overall experience was positive. I live a long way away from Reno, NV, which is wear my father was flown to when he broke his hp and had a stroke and unfortunately, passed away from complications.The trouble is there is never anyone to answer the phone, let alone, any question's!. This business couldn't worse as far as customer service, reliability, and trustworthiness. When I made an appointment to cremate my mother, the guy working there, Matt, immediately stopped working with me as soon as we ran in to an issue and told me to do the rest of the paperwork online at home. When I started getting emotional about him ending the process, he showed no empathy whatsoever. When my stepdad called and asked him what he should do, Matt told him a totally different set of instructions than he told us. Over the course of a week and a half; I called them, my grandma called them, my stepdad called them, the Department of Veterans Affairs called them to try to understand how to get the process going, and no one ever answered or called us back. We decided if they were being this shady about paperwork, we shouldn't trust them with her body. We went to Cremation Society of Reno - Affinity and within one week, the entire process was done and she was returned to us. The man at Cremation Society of Reno - Affinity, Ken, returned our calls within one day, and it felt liked he actually cared about what we were going to. Our family has received the least possible support from (Matt)...he will quote you the Nevada law pertaining to the time frame they have to cremate your loved ones remains and to top it off he will tell you they are the cheapest as far as cost... however, they do have a expedite fee, should you want it done faster...After "18" days...do we need to say more... Matt, was amazing with helping me with the memory of my brother. I lost in July. Matt helped me with ordering a pendant of my brothers thumbprint. Something I will cherish forever. I will be ordering more for my brothers daughters that are 8, 10, and 12 yrs old. He walked me through the process and was very helpful. Used Simple Cremations and things started out fine but went wrong. Filled out all required paperwork with questions asked then when received my mom's ashes back noticed her first name was spelled wrong and my grandmothers married last name was used. Pulled paperwork that we sent them and we spelled my mother's name correctly and their form asks for her mother's name not her maiden name. Well to get this changed for probate it costs 40.00. It was finally changed which is done through the state. We received the death certificate a week after the change from Vital Statistics and over a month after the change from Simple Cremations. Do not use them. Going through all of this at the time of trying to grieve is horrible and this company just wants money! They need to learn some empathy for people and have a review before everything is printed. read more

At a difficult time, Simple Cremation and Morgan, made a horrible experience slightly better. Morgan was kind and sensitive. Their pricing is fair and the process was explained to us so that we understood the timelines, etc. This was our second time using Simple Cremation and would probably not choose any other provider to assist me at a difficult time like this. read more
