I would give this a zero star rating if I could. The most unprofessional salon I have ever seen and trust me I am not exaggerating. I had reserved the appointment for a haircut and a Brazilian blowout on call and had the confirmation email 20 days before the actual date. I got an email canceling the appointment just two hours before the scheduled time. No reason was mentioned. I replied and ask to be accommodated in the next two days and never after that have I heard back. I wrote email and made a few calls but no response from Samantha what so ever! I should probably sue if I had the time, money and energy to invest. The least I could do is write a review so that people can think twice before relying on her service. Found Simply Samantha on Groupon. I'm glad I did, because it introduced me to the Sola Salon experience. Never been to one before. This inexperienced stylist is completely incompetent to be coloring hair. She destroyed my hair. See the pictures before and after. She seems to not know proper technique for placing foils to get anywhere close to the roots. And worse even though I asked specially for just high lift tint of Honey colored highlights like my natural hair in sun.... I got WHITE bleached streaks and even those are uneven! Worse is that when I gave her a chance to correct me she refused and tried to blame her horrific bleach job on my clear distress over what I was seeing?! I wish that I had trusted my eyes and ran half way in. I went in with perfectly healthy nice hair (see pic) and now I have a bleached out mess that will take years to fully recover. Please head the MANY negative reviews here, there is real person behind each one whom is trying to save you the same pain. I will never know how good of a stylist Samantha is because she canceled my 5p appointment at 4:45p because she was sick. Im a bit more upset about this than I usually would be (please see my history of NOT negative reviews) as I explained to her assistant that I had a Christmas party the following day and needed cut/color/highlight and was even interested in coming back before my party for an updo, but needed to confirm ASAP. Just had to call Groupon to give me credit back for this deal. Like many others here, I ignored the bad reviews and purchased the Groupon anyway. DON'T IGNORE THEM. I sent 2 emails to her and left 2 voicemails before she got back to me a week later. She texted me at 7:30am on a Saturday to tell me she's fairly free this week. Annoyed that the text woke me up, I responded anyway and gave her some times I'm free this week. No response. Followed up with her with another text the next day. Nothing. Bought the groupon for haircut, highlights and blow out at the end of June. I have since been trying to schedule this appointments. I left voicemails, did an online messaging system through the site you can (allegedly) schedule appointments through... Nothing. I haven't heard from her in about two and a half weeks now just to schedule the appointment. I even tried the online service, which makes you enter a credit card number that states you won't be charged until after your service (which I have a groupon, so I shouldn't be charged at all...), but whenever I would enter it in the screen would refresh and ask me to book my appointment again. I put off getting my hair done as long as possible due to my hectic schedule. This won't be happening again since I LOVED going to Samantha's salon. She's absolutely the best stylist I have ever had the chance to go to. I will only be going to Sam's spot as long as I am in the Bay Area. Here's what I loved: 1. Sam is excellent at colors. I loved my hair color and about a hundred people have complemented me on it since my visit to Sam. Its elegant and classy for work but also looks gorgeous and fun on my skin tone. 2. Sam did a fantastic job with the hair cut. Again, I had to leave for my brother's wedding in a week after getting my hair done and I got tons of compliments on my long hair and the cut. 3. I got a Brazilian Blowout that took all the frizz out of my hair. Its been two months since I went to Sam's and it still looks great. I will be getting this regularly from now on. 4. Sam added some extra hair vitamin (for free because she's a rockstar) to give my hair more softness. 5. While getting my hair done, Sam and I ordered some pizzas and chatted about life. Samantha is amazing and an expert when it comes to hair! I have been getting highlights for 8 years now and no one has done such a great job as her. She took a couple of looks at examples of what I was looking for and recreated exactly what I wanted. Samantha is one of the best stylists that I have seen so far. She's great ! She cares about her customer, explains what she's doing and also gives detailed information about the products she uses. I had a busy schedule and I wanted to get the haircut and highlights as soon as possible, so I asked her if she could book me an appointment on the Sunday and she did, even though she doesn't work on Sundays. Her salon, space, is very clean and cute and I even had the option of playing any shows that I wanted while I was there. Samantha spent 5 hours working on my hair. Very disappointed that I need to write this because I did give her plenty of opportunities to rectify. I got a Brazilian blowout and haircut Groupon with Samantha. She seemed very nice but a little spacey as someone in the other comments mentioned. My problem is that when I washed my hair after a few days of the treatment it is still frizzy as if nothing was done to it. I got it on Saturday, texted her on Tuesday, no response, Wednesday, no response, Friday, no response. She had also said I'd receive aftercare instructions which I never did. I find it super rude because I also called her and she is pretty much just ignoring me. Waste of money. This is a really hard review for me to write. I hired Samantha as my hair and makeup artist for my wedding. The trial for hair and makeup (done separately) both went very well, and she took pictures to remember exactly the hairstyle we decided on. I also hired her assistant, Rebecca, and her for the full day on the wedding day to stick around for touchups. They both showed up on time and were very nice and fun during the entire morning process. The moms, bridesmaids and myself all looked wonderful! However, things began to go downhill in the evening for touch ups. At one point when I went to the holding room for a touch up, it was very clear that they had been drinking while waiting around all day. My eyes already hate being poked at and here was a drunk person coming at my eyes with a sharp q-tip to remove eyelash glue that was misapplied due to the applicator being drunk! (My wedding planner had to step in to fix my eyes herself.) I almost missed our entrance into the reception because she smeared mascara on my eyelid and was trying to rub it off as they were calling us to enter. I also heard (from my wedding planner) they were getting drinks from our open bar and dancing on the dance floor with our guests after their time was up and they were supposed to have left. Very unprofessional. :( So in summary, Samantha and Rebecca did a GREAT job with the hair and makeup for the entire bridal party... when they were sober. I hope they both learned how to behave better at an all-day assignment from this mishap, because the job they did in the morning really was awesome. But drinking on the job is a huge no-no, and it was the unprofessionalism in the evening that left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. read more

Two days after I washed my hair using the products recommended by Samantha I realized my hair was still a bit more fizzy than I expect. Let me start by saying: I don't trust hair stylists in general- too many bad experiences and a lot of independent "creative" mishaps have led me to dislike going to the salon. However, with a special event coming up I had no choice but to get my hair done by a professional and Samantha seemed to fit the bill. I called ahead of time asking for an appointment and informed her assistant about a Groupon i had seen; she told me NOT to purchase the Groupon as they would honor the price with or without purchasing it. (I admit this made me suspicious but I went along with it anyway) This being my first time getting a Brazilian Blowout, I didn't know what to expect or how to prep my hair or what to do or ANYTHING: Samantha picked up the phone and informed me of what to do before I came in. Fast forward to the day of, and just as I am about to leave work- Samantha texted me to inform me that she was running about 15 minutes late: this impressed me. I have never been to a salon that would inform you beforehand if you would have to wait. (Brownie points, for her!) So I show up at a quarter to five and am honestly impressed by her working space; although it's small- it's not cramped, it's EXTREMELY clean and nicely decorated. Samantha was extremely kind and welcomed me in, spending about 10 minutes on the consultation to find out what I really wanted and how she could help. Next star comes to her for explaining what she was going to do and how it affected my hair. (she recommended three clarifications before proceeding so that I could get the straightest look and earn the most bang for my buck) She tilted my head back and began washing it in the sink, which was admittedly extremely tall and at a very weird angle- she saw my discomfort and adjusted the chair accordingly, trying to make sure that i was as comfortable as possible while also apologizing for the sink. (not her fault: she didn't build it) Samantha then applied the product and meticulously blow-dried my hair: I was waiting for the 'fumes' and 'burning sensation' but told her that I felt none and the product smelled amazing! She smiled and told me that this was normal: IF THE BB IS STINGING YOUR SCALP OR YOUR EYES START TO WATER OR THERE ARE FUMES COMING OFF OF YOUR HAIR THAT IS A BAD SIGN! It's an indication that the stylist is applying WAY too much heat. We continued an easy conversation as she blow-dried and began to flat iron my hair while also taking stock of the damage I had been doing previously. And what I appreciated most was that she was informative without being berating; rather than saying: Why did you that? You should never do that! She simply acknowledge that I had made a few mistakes and informed me of how to do better for my hair: i.e, lower settings for your flat iron, no relaxers, use heat protectant, etc. (Another star for her!) As we began continued talking, she saw I was getting restless and offered to turn on the TV while she worked- until my worst fears were realized: she had to cut my hair. My amateur job of trimming my split ends had led to a wonky hairline in the back and with with straight hair it would only be more noticeable. I knew she was right and conceded to her ONLY trimming the split ends. She began cutting and showed me just how little she was taking off before she continued (once again setting my mind at ease) Once finished, I looked in the mirror and could not believe how AMAZING it looked!!! My hair was straight, shiny, voluminous without the frizz and most of all- it looked healthier than it had in years! Next we started talking about aftercare, and what I loved most was that she informed you of what you needed and what wasn't necessary when offering her products without being pushy. I told her of my limited budget and she worked with me, putting together a package that I could afford while also giving me what my required to still maintain the BB. We settled up on price and I told her about the Groupon situation, honestly expecting a fight: she told me that she does indeed honor Groupon pricing even without a purchase due to the fact that Groupon takes half. I paid and she put all of my products into a handy little BB bag while reminding me of the aftercare instructions and walking me through each of the products once more before I left. (even adding a little treat at the end!!!) I couldn't believe how late it had gotten and that she had spent over an hour longer on my hair to make sure it was perfect: I was thoroughly impressed! I left without breaking the bank and still looking AMAZING! Bottom line, if you want a stylist who: A, knows what they are doing. B, educates you on your hair. C, takes their time so you can get your money's worth. And D, actually enjoys what they do- then go to Samantha!!!!! read more

I purchased the full highlight and haircut groupon. I thought it seemed like a great deal, but everyday I wish I had just paid extra and gone somewhere else! First of all, the hair stylist was very unprofessional. She was hard to reach via phone, text,email, etc. When I met with her she kept reassuring me that she "knows what shes doing".. which I was like, what are you trying to prove to me?! But I was very disappointed with everything. She turned my hair highlights orange and only did them at the top of my head! I had try to fix it by darkening it. I'm not sure but doesn't full highlights mean more than just the top portion of your head?! She told me she did the color lighter on purpose so that she can fix it if I want to go darker but can't go vice versa... but even then the color it ended up is not flattering at all. I had told her I just wanted natural brown highlights.. none of my other hairstylists ever had this problem before. She was also very slow and kept fidgeting with her hulu/tv player for literally 45 mins.. like I didnt come to watch TV. She told me if I didn't like anything I could come back for free but I wouldnt trust her with my hair! The cut she gave me also was NOT even! Especially the part that frames my face. I literally have put my hair in a ponytail for a month since I got it cut. It's finally growing out and I will make sure NOT to go to her. I didn't even give her a tip. I have a very curly hair and Samantha said BB would usually last for 3 months and for my hair type, it might last for 2 months. But you know what, it lasted only till first wash even after using Brazilian Blowout products that are around $40 each. Then I did my research and figured out that Samantha had done only half the steps as they usually do in BB. I wish I could get my Money back. Regret for every penny spent just for this 1 week smooth look. I am now back with my curls and frizz but not my money !!! And for futures, please avoid this place if you are going, do your research, follow what she is doing and make sure she covers every single step. Actual Brazilian blowout procedure, shampoo the hair, Towel Dry, Apply BB smoothing solution, Blow dry, Flat Iron, Rinse the Hair, Apply BB Masque, Rinse and Towel Dry, apply BB Serum after 90 minutes style your hair and leave the salon. I moved to the area about a year ago, and everyone knows how hard it is to find a good stylist. Being new to the area, I purchase Groupons and try different salons to find "my stylist". Samantha was my 5th and last Groupon purchase. It took going to 5 different salons but well worth it. I bought the groupon on a Monday and was able to get an appointment on Wednesday, and it was all done online. She makes it very easy to make an appointment and gives you different date and times available up front. Samantha asked me questions, then advised what she recommended, and explained everything. I love the newer space, and she keeps you entertained during the process (whether with a chat or binging a show on tv). It helps the process of a tedious highlight or color session go by much faster. I enjoyed my handful of appointments -- the highlights she has blended for me is just what I wanted given that my jet black hair is difficult to pop. I definitely recommend because it's so difficult to find a good stylist. It's been a 10 year struggle for me since my last stylist moved out of the Bay Area. I'm very low maintenance when it comes to my hair. I received a Brazilian blowout from Samantha a few days ago. I am very disappointed with the outcome. I noticed that she had only drops of The Brazilian blowout product. So basically she did a blowout and flat iron on me. I am not from the area so I had to go by online reviews and pictures which seemed ok. I got in touch with her to let her know my hair looked exactly the same as when I walked in to her salon and she said I could come back in and when I told her when I was available she never responded. We are in the area for care at Stanford hospital for my husband so between appointments and hospital stays I was finally able to get something done for myself. I was really hoping she would be my new hair stylist to go to but unfortunately I've been left disappointed. I bought the Groupon for highlights, cut and conditioning. I paid an extra $60 to have my hair dyed. I had a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like and styled as well. I was 5 months pregnant and really wanted a new look and since moving to the peninsula was looking for a new salon instead of driving to the city to where I've always gone. She told me she couldn't go too drastic on the color because I'm pregnant. I was ok with that since I don't want to harm my baby. My hair was dark brown when I came in and when I left my hair was still dark brown with brown highlights. To top it off, my hair started darkening throughout the week and I noticed that the highlights were only visible on one side of my head and the other didn't really have any. I text her and told her what happened, she responded about 2 hours later saying she would schedule me asap. I responded the next morning saying I can meet her whenever. She never responded. I called and text her a couple days later and never got a response. Now I have to get my hair redone since I hate having it down since it looks off with one side highlighted and the other isn't. I agree with other posters in that the Brazilian treatment does NOT work. It looks great out of the salon but it 1-2 washes, my hair is exactly the same. Definitely not worth doing. Samantha herself is very nice and personable. Talks a lot! LOL be forewarned if you need to speak up and say "a moment of silence please". Midway through my treatment her friend showed up and basically I was given a rush job. She asked if I wanted her to wash and dry my hair after the process and clearly she did not want me to say yes and take any more time away from whatever she and her friend were planning to do.
