Being a nubie to this type of automotive problem, I did the logical thing.....I went to Mr. Transmission......BIG MISTAKE. They proceeded to tell me that finding out what was wrong was all a very mysterious process that I would never understand. Suffice it to say I was on my way....looking for a new transmission repair place. As luck would have it I found Al. He was knowledgable, honest, and very patient.....explaining everything to me step by step......turns out it wasn't such a big mystery after all. From Good Men to Con Men in 4 days flat…read more Several days ago, I gave Michael and Auto Technique a very positive feedback. I regretted it very much. They betrayed this loyal customer and totally rip me off. I am seriously considering reporting it to the authority. After I had good reasonable services from Auto Technique for the past few years (which prompted me to write that positive review), I took my 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe for engine oil and filter change (posted charge $40.00), automatic transmission oil and filter change (posted $150.00) and wheel/tire balance ($40.00). I left the car there for 4 hours to have the above work done. When I return to pick up the car, the bill was $40 + $340+$40+$20+20!! Total of $460.00. The expected fee should be $230.00. Nearly doubled. They went ahead and changed the air filter and cabin filter without getting approval from me (sin #1). And the air filter was not even that dirty. Then they claimed the Hyundai requires special transmission fluid that cost them $20 per litre, and it requires 8 litres. With their labour, it would cost $340.00. Well, Canadian Tires retails that oil for $13.00 per litre (sin #2). And they inflated the labour cost 3 times (sin #3). After a lengthy debates, I game them a $400.00 and quickly left the place. I was starting to feel unsafe. Auto Technique turns out to be another classic auto mechanic con man. Once they gain your trust, they will rip you off big time. This customer will never ever return to have any work done by this auto garage.

HEARTLESS PIGS! Dave is a direct and a real genuine human in an undisguised mechanic body that will give your auto 'buddy' the right touch so that it's back on the road taking you from A to Z without having to worry, "Did they use the right oil, or was it Canola? Dang it! OMG, people without a vehicle at the moment do not know how lucky they are that the only thing they have to worry about is their presto card refills!!!" Like really people, we go through too much already to have to even fight this kind of battle!! You call this place up, already booking some days is quite tedious as their shop is humbly set up, enough for only a few vehicles at a time and the work is tediously done without the acquisitive approach on giving quotes on excess work you don't need at the moment. Honest and hard working, the place where our gas guzzlers get pampered in the hands of sincere mechanics. This place is not only close to home, but definitely close to my wallet when it comes to a quick oil change, maintenance all year round and expert advise on how to care for your lover on wheels.

Without an appointment he lifted my car to take a look at what was wrong and proceeded to show me, in detail (and plain english) what was wrong with my brakes, exhaust etc. I knew I needed brake and exhaust work, and all other mechanics I visited gave me a rough estimate without explaining how, why or what specific work was required. Dave was happy to have me watch as he inspected my car, and then gave me a very fair estimate. When I picked up my car the next day, the final bill was actually less than he estimated, plus he changed the air filter (something he noticed that needed to be done while he was working on the car) Definitely a positive experience with a trustworthy mechanic in Toronto. Not the closest most convenient location to me (I live downtown), but just north of Finch Subway station (either walk or bus). I'll definitely be seeing Dave again next time my car has any trouble, and will be recommending him to family and friends.

Bob had him drive it into the shop, opened the hood, looked over everything, threw a fender cover on and reached down beside the engine. "There" he said "that should solve your problem. Take it around the block and try it." When he got back, my friend said everything was great. Bob wouldn't take any money, just the assurance that if anything serious turned up, my friend would come back to Bob. The vacuum line had come off the fitting; any good shop should have found that in an instant. Needless to say, my friend still uses Lawrence Transmission whenever he needs transmission or rear end work, and so do I. Now I see Chris Spick, Bob's son who runs the joint. If you're having transmission trouble, take it to him first.
