I had went to a previous dentist, where they wanted $4,000 for a root canal and crown. I simply could not afford that. I opted to have it extracted all together. However, I needed to go to an oral surgeon to do so. I was desperate, a lot of places did not have availability until March/April of next year. I called Dr. Simpson's office on December 5th and the soonest I could get was January 19th. I happily took it. They even offered to put me on an "ASAP" list in case there are any cancellations. Lo and behold, I get a call December 8th saying there was a cancellation for Monday, December 11th. I took it immediately. My appointment was at 1:45. After I filled out my paper work, they had in me in the chair by 2:08. Dr. Simpson and his staff made me feel SO comforted. Like many others, I get anxious about dentistry. Dr. Simpson has a very kind demeanor. He was thorough with his consultation and made it feel personal, not just an in and out situation. He even offered me the option of getting the extraction done on the spot!! They did not make me feel guilty or shamed for the state of my teeth. They didn't rush me to make brash choices. They thoroughly explained everything to me. They even gave me something to squeeze and hold as the procedure occurred. I was out by 3:30pm. They gave me extra gauze and paper work. I was at the pharmacy and Dr. Simpson did a follow up call! Seeing how I was feeling and if I had any concerns. I am very happy with the service I received and I cannot praise the staff enough! ‼AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS ‼ IGNORE the 4.7 star rating this surgeon has on google. I genuinely do not know how he has received this rating. I will be warning EVERYONE to STAY FAR AWAY from this place. I saw Dr. Brian Simpson due to excruciating wisdom tooth pain that was keeping me up at night for over a week. If I was not so desperate and tired I would have walked out of the office mid-procedure. First of all, I waited an hour after my appointment time before being seen at all. For whatever reason, during the consultation, Dr. Simpson spoke to me extremely condescendingly, as though I was a child. While I understand he wanted to clearly explain the procedure and risks to me, it got genuinely offensive. When it came time to discuss anesthesia options, I indicated I was not comfortable with general anesthesia and would stick with local. This seemed to really upset him as he immediately kicked me out of the room and I proceeded to wait another 1.5 hours before being brought back in. I assume he was upset that my decision meant my insurance would not pay $2,000 extra for the general anesthesia. During the entirety of the procedure, I felt genuinely violated and disrespected. Dr. Simpson was unnecessarily rough and forceful, and I could tell he was upset with the way he was angrily huffing in my face. It felt like psychological torture. He was even rude to his own assistants, and it was obvious he was rushing the surgery. He cracked my tooth in 6 places and got even angrier and more frustrated. Not a single time did him nor any of his assistants check on me or say anything to me throughout the entire procedure. I jumped up and gasped in pain at one point and no one said anything at all to me and pretended nothing occurred. In fact, one of them in particular was extremely rude to me even after. I was in such shock I could barely respond. I was supposed to have my 3 other wisdom teeth done here. Dr. Simpson can rest assured I will NOT be returning to his office for any work. My son went here for a molar consultation. After Dr Simpson checked him out he gave us options on what type of treatment to follow. It was nice to hear the options for injections, laughing gas, or sleep. We came back 2 weeks later and got 3 molars removed. The doctor was very caring and took his time making sure to get the molars out. He followed up with a phone call the next day to see how my son was doing. DO NOT BOTHER!!!!!!!!! The front desk girl is completely rude and does not know what she's talking about. When the appointment was booked TWO weeks ago... the girl said she'd check my eligibility and benefits and would call me back in a couple of days. I confirmed because I wanted to know two things: 1 What my out of pocket cost would be (ball park). 2 The surgeon would be able to proceed with the procedure after the consultation. She calls me 10 days later mid afternoon THE DAY BEFORE "to confirm" my appointment. When I asked about the benefits, she proceeded to tell me I already had two exams and therefore it would not be covered. I did have two exams but they were cleaning and X-rays - this is a consultation for surgery - NOT a preventive exam! I've gone through a similar ordeal last year with needing dental surgery and it was not a problem with the previous practice, because the front desk team was stellar and they knew what they were doing. Moreover, I know the ins and outs of billing and coding. This dentist is a specialist. I asked for the specialist benefit to be confirmed with the insurance. She proceeded to say she didn't want "step on" my expertise, inserting a red herring argument and concluded with "it is what it is...." Certainly not a mantra that a healthcare establishment should have - particularly when people are vulnerable, in pain, and looking for medical care. Her egregious demeanor and apathetic attitude left me no choice but to cancel the appointment because quite frankly, this establishment isn't the last one on earth that performs surgery. Having this person as the first point of contact represents the establishment and sets the tone for the interaction. If the vibe is "it is what it is," then confidence in adequate care and not being swindled, I have not. Buyer beware! read more

I'd prefer to not let on that Doctor Simpson has removed three of my teeth. Still, bad dental judgement in no way affects my patient or consumer judgment: On all three accounts I would give him five solid gold stars. I've had doctors call me into their office and not even tell me their name. Another who said I should just go back to the doctor who originally found the condition (as in, he didn't want to do the leg work.) And possibly the all-time champ, an NYU and Columbia graduate who was trying to 'process' me for eye surgery, after I told her nothing on my body freaks me out more than touching my eyes. She left and reentered the room no less than six times between hello and good-bye. I knew her name but I left with the feeling she didn't even know mine. Or care. Doctor Simpson reviewed my history and then again on the day of the surgery. Of course. But I was really blown away when I realized he pulled up a chair to sit along side me and review the pre-op procedures and what to expect. Not two people apart, looking at each other. Two people sitting side by side reviewing paperwork. This had the subtlety of a brick: here is a health professional actually respecting his patient. Wow. But wait, there's more. I got a phone call from Dr. Simpson that evening asking if everything was good. After my 8:30 AM surgery he was working after six calling to follow up. His skill? I was sedated but I didn't feel a thing and actually a day later I have no sensation of a tooth pull. This entire thing was less disturbing than a regular dentist visit! I noticed many one star reviews here. After reading them I'd advise this: They can go to offices where receptionists brown nose them but the doctors treat them like an assembly line. I personally had no issues with the staff, found them nice and accommodating but most importantly the services I was there for were performed flawlessly. To make a very poor analogy, when these reviewers go to get their cars serviced do they go to a shop where the mechanic will do the job right or where they have good magazines in the waiting room? This is an outstanding Oral Surgery practice. The entire staff was very helpful and accommodating. I went to them on an emergency basis because I had horrid tooth pain that was not responding to antibiotics. They did their 3-D "cone scan" which revealed the problem's source was a fracture which was only visible on one view. I couldn't wait to get approval for a general anesthetic and come back. So I had them extract it using local anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide. They handled everything so well it was literally "swift and painless." They kept me informed every step of the way! read more

Initial Consultation: Dr. Simpson and Kenia walked me through the entire process and made sure I understood everything. They were patient and answered all of my questions. Day of surgery: Got in, waited a few minutes, and moments later I was being prepped for surgery. The staff was very kind and accommodating. This clinic has been harassing my mother recently after she stopped visiting this place over 2 years ago.. they found some random bill from their archives and have been sending threatening phone calls to my mother. There is a line and the office manager has crossed it. She is EXTREMELY RUDE AND DISGRUNTLED. The way she is talking to my mother (and other people too I assume) is wxtremely unprofessional and just slightly short of me picking up the phone, calling her and giving my 2 cents. You do not speak to my mother like that.. or anyone for that matter. I believe her name is Leandra or something like that.. while the doctor is nice, the office staff is absolutely disgusting and unworthy of a civilized conversation. My mother asked to speak to the doctor and they wouldn't even let her do that.. there is no proof of the bill being linked to her and especially after 2 years?!?! What if you were using lawyer A but went to lawyer B for a consultation: You paid lawyer B bur he refused to talk to you and said "If you want any information get it from lawyer A. That would be unprofessional and unethical, yet that is exactly what happened with Simpson. A dentist I went to (Shifteh, see review) said I needed to extract all the live teeth under a bridge, destroying the bridge and get implants. I went to Simpson for a consultation and paid him in full that day. He gave me x-rays but refused to talk to me. It has been over a month, numerous calls, e-mails, even stopping by his Office. I went to Dr. Simpson for a consultation to have wisdom teeth removed. The staff at this place was strange in the sense that they tried to push all of the most expensive options for the surgery even after I declined. After the consultation, I spoke to the office manager, who was very quick and almost rude, and she said that she would contact me after receiving the predetermination (the cost of the procedure for me out of pocket) from the insurance company. A month later I received a bill from the office for the consultation services, most of which had been paid by insurance, but still had not been contacted with the cost of the procedure. First I contacted the insurance company to make sure there had not been a mistake - they were not contacted by Simpson. I contacted the Simpson in writing letting them know that I had not received the services that I had paid for and that I would not be paying the bill ($50 out of pocket out of over $400 charged for the consultation.) Meanwhile, the office manager for the referring dentist had contacted Simpson 4 times in regards to these issues with no response to them either. Two weeks after sending the letter in writing to Simpson, the insurance company was contacted and the predetermination was sent. At this point, I had already scheduled the services elsewhere. This week, I received a bill from Simpson stating that I was 90 days past due on the bill, which a hand written note asking "Why haven't I paid this bill?". I contacted the office, left a message and received no call back, again. I called again today and spoke to the office manager who told me I was trying to "get out of paying the bill" (again, $50.00) and proceeded to call myself and the referring doctors office "idiots". I went in for a consultation at this office to potentially remove two of my wisdom teeth (only the ones that had emerged from my gums). My dentist told me of the others hadn't emerged by 29 that it was less likely that they would ever come out. They immediately wanted to take x-rays despite my having recent ones from my dentist. Luckily I remembered that my dentist told me to tell this office that I didn't need any since I had already gotten them done. They make you sign a million things basically committing to the surgery before you even tell them if you want to do it and send prescriptions immediately to the pharmacy. There was nothing in my referral about removing all my wisdom teeth but it seems like they want to bill you for all you're worth so they pushed getting them all removed. To top it all off, Dr. Simpson tried to use scare tactics to get me to agree to getting the extra ones out, pointing to my previous dental work on the x-ray and warning that future decay could cause problems. I didn't have insurance for 8 years and dental work is extremely expensive so they shouldn't pass judgement on dental health. They are also not transparent about costs. I had to pay $45 just to be seen despite having insurance and they said I couldn't get the teeth removed until I paid $400 for a cone scan. That all could've been communicated to me prior to the appointment so I could've been prepared for the expense. I will not be returning because I can't even think of what the actual surgery will run me. I would strongly recommend going elsewhere. 0 stars honestly but it's not an option. read more

I went for a wisdom tooth consultation, only 20 years old and there by myself, so clearly vulnerable and not really knowing the process and costs of doctors visits. Before I knew it I was in the panoramic x-ray machine and I had gotten a pano very recently at a different office. No one told me I was going to be billed heavily for this x-ray so I thought nothing of it. Then I found out the consultation was going to be a hefty $150 which I was angry enough about. Then I keep receiving bills for the x-ray, shocked that I had to pay more money to this incompetent office that I didn't even get the surgery done at. My insurance didn't pay it because I had just gotten one recently. Maybe if this office had asked me if I had gotten one recently, they could have just looked at that one instead of taking a new one???? I don't know, seems like common sense to me. Me moving out post grad led to me not knowing about all the bills getting sent to my childhood home and boom my bill is in collections. I call the office and of course there's nothing they can do about it now. It's going to pain me to pay this money but this office is impossible to work with. They will prey on young adults and try to take as much money from you as possible. Just save yourself and don't go here!! Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT GO HERE. This was the worst experience I have ever had. I scheduled a consultation in December of 2019 and the consultation was for January 2nd, 2020. At first, they told me that the wisdom teeth surgery would be 60-90% covered even though I have insurance. Because of this, they insisted I pay a $456 Cons scan because my panoramic XR was not good enough. I kept telling them that I am a broke graduate student but they wouldn't listen to me and made me pay out of pocket. Then, the consult was super fast and the Dr and staff were extremely rude without letting me ask any questions regarding anesthesia options. They were annoyed that I was asking questions for MY PROCEDURE. Fast forward to Thursday, March 5th, I show up for my appointment (about 6 minutes late bc morning traffic at 8:30 is inevitable and the day of they tell me I didn't follow instructions (I was not supposed to eat before general anesthesia). The receptionist in the front also rolled her eyes at me when I walked in. THEY NEVER TOLD ME OR GAVE ME INSTRUCTIONS IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE THEY WERE ANGRY THAT DAY IN JANUARY WHEN I ASKED SO MANY QUESTIONS. IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO BE KIND TO THE PATIENT. When I was sitting in the chair, Dr Simpson and his staff flipped out on me when I said I never received instructions and demanded I reschedule. I then asked for all of my scans and there was no way I would ever reschedule with a place like this. They gave me a disc of my $456 Cons Scan and it turns out, THAT DISC WITH MY SCAN IS EMPTY. This is the most corrupt, fraudulent and disrespectful facility that I have ever witnessed in my life and my entire family are healthcare professionals. I had 2 procedures done by Dr. Simpson and both times were amazing! I had my wisdom teeth removed and had a procedure called an Apico done. I am terrified of general dentists, so it's natural for me to be equally terrified of oral surgeons. However, this was not the case with Dr. Simpson. Him and his staff were so friendly and made me feel very comfortable. He took great care in making sure I did not feel any pain, and even followed up with me when I went home. Had a rather miserable experience here while trying to get a dental implant. The process took almost a year as Dr. Simpson was unable to get the implant to go in tight enough. Thousands and thousands of dollars spent on cone scans, bone grafts and several attempts to get the implant in, only to have it fail. I was without a front tooth for almost a year throughout this nightmare. I was not offered any real explanation for the failure nor was I offered any reimbursement. I am a healthy individual with healthy teeth, bones and gums so this failure came as quite a shock. All he did was suggest I wait another three months and try the entire process again. I never realized the risk I was taking here. Be very careful because they sit you in the dental chair then hand you paperwork to sign which relieves them from any responsibility which allows them to keep your money even if the outcome is a total failure. read more

I have been going to Dr. Simpson for years. He first removed my wisdom teeth about 20 years ago with zero complications. In fact, I was eating solid food that night (pizza)! I went back several years later for an implant which is still going strong (18 years). I have moved around and seen multiple dentists over the years for checkups and all have commented on the superb work the doctor did on my implant. He has done such a good job I recommend my mother for her implant and bone graft. She is very happy and was impressed with the professionalism and quality of care after the surgery. All three of my children have had their wisdom teeth taken out with Dr. Simpson and every time the care has been exceptional. Dr. Simpson is very thorough in his explanation of the procedure and very prompt in following up afterwards to make sure our recovery was going well. We felt treated as though we were part of the family. The office staff and assistants are all professional and friendly. I highly recommend Dr. Simpson and his office. read more

Dr Simpson is a caring professional. For the most part his staff is helpful and caring. The reason for the 3 stars is that there is one staff member who is abrasive, unprofessional and rude. When dealing with patients who are spending a lot of money out of pocket for dental surgery, she is impatient and disrespectful. From rudely correcting her name when we accidentally misspoke, to telling the elderly patient to "relax" when she expressed concern about an overcharge to her account. She should not be dealing with patients at all and we are actually switching doctors to get around dealing with her. Also I saw in the positive review that there were 2 negative reviews - but I cannot view them so I am concerned that Yelp was asked to remove them, as I have seen happen before. Hopefully this one stays up - because this truly is an excellent doctor but he must consider his staff and who is speaking to the patients on his behalf. read more

Nightmare staff. Called with an issue that my dentist thinks may be dental, but is likely medical (sinus). Explained this when making the appointment. Show up a week later, wait 30 minutes past my appointment time to be seen by an assistant. Assistant realizes they never bothered to get my x-rays. Office manager comes in and demands $300 for the exam, even though they are in-network with my insurance, because "You need an apicoectomy and that's dental." No, I'm there to find out if I need an apicoectomy, or a sinus drainage, or if I have a tumor...I HAVE NO CLUE. The exam should be fully covered by my insurance, as we are exploring whether it is medical (likely) or dental (vaguely possible), but they refuse to even let the doctor into the room without $300. They claim I made the appointment to have a biopsy...that word never came out of my mouth, nor was it mentioned in the paperwork my dentist sent a week earlier. Total waste of over an hour of my life, incredibly rude staff, and completely contrary to their terms of agreement with my medical insurance company. Also...$300 to touch a bump in my mouth and maybe take an x-ray? Even in our expensive area, that's three times the normal exam fee. AVOID unless you have ZERO other options. Perhaps the doctor is great, but if you read through other reviews you'll see a consistent refrain of the absolute horror show of the office staff. read more
