We were a little surprised at just how many people were walking around, playing on the grass with their kids, and just enjoying the place. Often rest stops are a rush to get in, out, and away from them quickly. Many are poorly kept, smell bad, are run down, or are covered in trash and graffiti. Often the picnic areas seem to go unused and are falling apart. That was not the case here and people were appreciating the opportunity to stop and unwind from the stresses of the road.

It is fun as you can pick up a free passport and have it stamped at each distilleries and in return you will get a free T shirt from KY Tourism Centre in Louisville. It is not easy to visit all 9 of them in a day or 2 as most of them closes early, far apart from each other and some involving tour/tasting that last for 2 hours! Right in the middle of town you have your fair share of restaurants to walk to. The local people are super friendly so you can't go wrong with anywhere you go! You can also choose to stay in and lounge with a cocktail in the beautiful seating area of your suite. The fully stocked kitchen area isn't short on glass or cookware. With limited time in a city,…read morethey're a great way to get a feel for the area and to pick out places you'd like to revisit. Heck, we've even taken tours in our own city! Very fun. This tour was no exception. We had a very enjoyable afternoon, got to see a lot of different things, learn a bit about the history of Louisville, and try some delicious foods. The format of this tour is as such: the bus drops you off at a location for 30-60 minutes, giving you time to explore while City Taste runs off to pick up food from a local eatery. When you get back on the bus, there's a taste (and a drink) to be eaten as you drive on to the next stop. The benefit of this is that you get to experience AND taste bits of Louisville, instead of one or the other. The drawback is that there is sometimes a bit of waiting around for the bus to return. On our tour, we stopped at Schimpffs candy shop, Churchill Downs (where we took a tour), Old Louisville, Louisville Slugger OR NULU (we were given an option), and the Belle of Louisville. Our favorite stop was Old Louisville by far. What a BEAUTIFUL area with such rich history! The food we had was fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, hot brown pizza, pulled pork and potato salad, and Derby Pie. All were delicious, but the particular favorites were the hush puppies and the hot brown pizza. Alongside came a variety of drinks... we weren't huge fans of the flavored beers and wines (vanilla, strawberry, etc.) but we liked the bourbon tastings, the bourbon coffee, and the mint julep at the end. For reference, the food quantity was enough to keep us mostly satisfied but not amounting to a full meal replacement. I wouldn't eat a huge lunch before you go, but I also wouldn't show up hungry. City Taste Tours was extremely accommodating and gracious to our family. I realize these tours aren't geared toward kids specifically, but they went out of their way to make it enjoyable for everyone on board. If you're looking for a tour that's a bit of everything, a "taste" of all tours, this is the one for you. It's quirky, fun, and a great way to spend an afternoon in Louisville. **One last thing I'd mention: we booked a private tour, mostly because we just didn't want to take away from anyone else's experience by bringing 6 kids along. We were surprised to find out after being picked up that the bus was picking up other riders as well. It honestly worked out TOTALLY fine - it was a great couple that came along with us - but I just mention this to warn someone who actually cares a lot about it being a private tour... you might want to double check that they don't somehow overlook your private reservation and add extra people to your group.

The sites are huge offering a fair amount of privacy when enjoying your space and mostly level. Trails are fabulous but marked less than we are used to and with obvious horse traffic (we didn't see any) we aren't accustomed to but still a beautiful view around every turn. Our T-Mobile hotspot worked great giving the added boost we needed to do any work or surfing. We will be sure to stay here again as an option for visiting distilleries on the Bourbon trail!

I attended the Run 4 Roses Girls AAU Basketball tournament weekend in Louisville. Navigating my way…read moreto the Expo Center was easy. Once you're on the property, things become chaotic. The best entrance to use is Gate 1 which brings you to Freedom Way. Parking should not be so costly if we're paying almost $100 for weekend admission. Tag on $45 for a parking pass. The parking lot was a disaster. There was no one hired to direct traffic. I Thank God to have survived the weekend without a car accident. The parking lot is shared with Kentucky Kingdom to add to the chaos ! The venue itself was sufficient for this kind of massive sporting event. The bathrooms were clean, there were plenty of food vendors and the air conditioning kept us comfortable. I wish the center would consider hiring parking lot attendants and providing appropriate signage from the main roads. Do better.

If you're going to hold an event, Truck Show, don't take ALL the handicapped parking to park your…read moreitems in that area. Seriously poor planning.... Even the person taking my $15 for parking laughed when I asked where the handicapped parking was. I'll never, ever, whichever is longer, return.
