My husband and I had a wonderful visit at the Simsbury 1820 House. we were married here 37 years ago, so we did an overnight -for an early valentines day. We saw a movie at a nearby cinema in the afternoon. Came back to the inn, went to happy hour - the bar area is very nice, staff very good. Had later dinner reservations, so we enjoyed a glass of wine in the parlor area / where our ceremony was / and looked at pictures from our wedding album! The in is so cozy; gas fire and comfortable sofas in the parlor area; the room was clean and comfortable. Staff were all wonderful - from front desk to bar and restaurant. and we had a delicious meal there. All perfect!! read more

I was treated like I was a member of the family, not as a guest. I was constantly referred to by name, given a very nice room, I have insomnia from three tours in Iraqi Freedom, but I slept sooooo good!!...and by far the best continental breakfast I've ever had. Homemade muffins, homemade bread, large choices of different types of coffee, cocoa, cider... Various cereals, oatmeal, fresh fruit... Many thanks to Glen who is very friendly and very personable WHO truly went out of his way to make me feel at home. I stayed for 3 nights this past weekend. They don't provide daily cleaning based on old Covid rules. I was in the Carriage House and the outside lock was broken. On my last night there, an employee came into my room unannounced while I was sound asleep. I instinctually screamed and they apologized and ran from the room. We booked an overnight stay for my inlaws and they loved it. Staff is extremely courteous and the hotel itself is very charming and clean.

I stayed here for 1 night because I had a family event the day. This inn has all of the charm, quaintness you are looking for in inns. For one, the inn was built in the 1820s and still standing to this day. The architecture is outstanding, especially if you are into quaint and historic colonial buildings. The room where I stayed also had the traditional inn traits one would expect at an inn. Plus the rooms were clean and you are able to sleep with all linens (including the comforter) which is always a plus when I travel. There is a lovely restaurant, Soma Grille right downstairs and you are able to take out at the bar and bring back to your room if you would rather eat there. But you can also walk right into town if you want to dine somewhere else or just want to walk instead of using the car. You also have access to the pools, tennis courts and other amenities at the other inns through the same partnership. Also if you are a Gilmore girls fan, you will love this inn because it will remind you of a setting right from Gilmore Girls. :) read more

I am a CPA that now lives in FL but come back to CT on a regular basis to work. I have clients in the Simsbury area and always look forward to staying at the 1820 house. I have been at many hotel chains over last two years and this is about as good as it gets . I was met by Glen last night at check in and he took care of all my needs (heating up my leftovers, getting me utensils, complimentary wine) and made me feel very welcome. The rooms are very functional and make you feel like you are in an historic home. The pillows are the best I've ever slept on. And the best of all was the breakfast spread that was outstanding. I called and reserved a room with a king bed here. When we arrived to check in, I was surprised to learn our room was located in the carriage house across from the parking lot. While the room was lovely, I would have appreciated knowing this, as I would have preferred to stay in the actual inn. It took away from the experience of staying at a bed and breakfast a little bit. I was in New England for a business meeting. I personally know this HOUSE before and now unfortunately ; after the House turned in to a hotel. The front desk person must have been very new. ( I checked in mid- afternoon) After I checked in I asked where the elevator was. Front desk person: We don't have one. Me: can someone help me with my bags then? ( 4 total) . Front desk person: No... the staircase in which I had to lug all my luggage was the same narrow staircase that was indicated for the time period of this house. My husband and I and another couple stayed here when we had tickets for Darius Rucker at Simsbury Meadow. It was so convenient to walk to concert. The Inn is quaint and charming. Very clean, could see that COVID protocols were in place. We had a quick bite in the bar before the concert. Everyone was accommodating and pleasant. The woman at the front desk was professional and helpful in every way, believe her name is Debra. The decor was so pleasing to the eye. Very good coffee too, in the parlor. I really wanted to like this place! I'm sad to have to say I don't recommend staying here. I will say that the staff was wonderful. They were great people, kind and chatty, and they took good care of us. But our room was a big disappointment. Overall, the inn seems like it needs a lot of renovation. It was once a beautiful house and maybe in the 90's it had nice, new amenities, but currently everything is a little depressing. Wallpaper was curling off the wall in several places. The floor of our room felt like it was sagging. The ceiling was also very low and not in a way that felt cozy, cute or comfortable. We had the option to switch rooms, and we were grateful for that. The new room was in better shape. But we laughed when we saw way the fabric was attached to the top of the canopy with thumbtacks. This pretty much sums up our stay. When booking a room at a historical place like this, I expect it to be special because the house has history and has been well-preserved. I feel more like we stayed at a cheap motel that's seen better days, which was such a bummer. read more

Loved this place! The list continental breakfast available (the attached but separately run restaurant doesn't open until lunch). I've seen some lack luster continental breakfasts in my day and this isn't one of them! Bagels with cream cheese, PB or butter, assorted scones, buns, croissant, Danish and breads are on the buffet along with yogurts and oatmeal with fresh whole fruit. A single serve coffee machine is also available. You can sit in the parlor with a variety of newspapers and a background TV with the Today show playing or just head back to your room. read more

We had such a wonderful week staying at this quaint bed and breakfast. Everything about the 1820 house makes it the quintessential New England bed and breakfast experience. Our room was clean and charming, with its canopy ultra comfortable bed, and the decor was perfect. The included continental breakfast is above and beyond, with fresh bagels, and incredible fresh baked breads (banana and carrot) and pastries, to go with the best tasting coffee around the clock. The entire vibe was relaxing and soothing. The best part of this place is definitely it's friendly and helpful small staff. Every person we encountered was super friendly and accommodating in every way. Prime among them is Pam, the innkeeper, whose genuine and heartfelt hospitality is from an era lost. My husband and I just got back after a two-night stay for his knee surgery recovery and an intimate New Year's celebration. It was wonderful! Though it was not a bed and breakfast where you get a hot breakfast, the continental breakfast was very fancy;full Chobani yogurts, oatmeal cups, hard boiled eggs in little cups, fresh fruit, and fresh baked goods from Simsbury Inn. Speaking of Simsbury Inn, you can get a free pass to their gym, which is only a quick ride down the street. The innkeepers were very cordial and I loved going into the lobby and smelling the food from the resident restaurant, Metro Bis. Though it was too expensive of a restaurant for my husband and me, I would maybe try it on a special occasion or if I get into the nearby Millwrights...lol! I suppose we've gotten better values in this sector of the hospitality market. But given the elite status of Simsbury Connecticut, and the fact that the rate for New Year's Eve was only $9 higher than normal, there is admiration to be given. But Groupon deserves a slap on the wrist, which is where we booked the inn. I had thought we were getting an amazing deal, but it turned out that the rates were exactly the same as the inn's own website. In what I would describe as a mildly deceptive marketing ploy, The Simsbury 1820 House has used Groupon as a mere advertising conduit, instead of its usual purpose as a site for providing deeply discounted goods and services. Groupon has been made aware of our disappointment. Anyway, we won't slight the 1820 house for Groupon's sleight of hand. See what I did there? Homophones rule! We loved our cute room. Super comfy bed, HDTV, classic furniture, good curtains. A nice place to get away for New Year's. Oh, and surgical recovery. I had knee surgery on December 30th, no lie. So I needed a place to rest for a few days while still finding a way to celebrate the arrival of 2015. Don't worry, there were no narcotics in my system while the alcohol was flowing. When I hear the term "Continental Breakfast," I usually hear "crappy cold breakfast." But this is not the case here. Good bagels and cream cheese, oatmeal, cereal, Chobani yogurt, home baked breads and pastries from down the street, hard boiled eggs, strong coffee. It's more than enough to make your morning. We stayed for two nights and had a wonderful time in the area. Our room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. My only complaint would be that some of the furnishings could use a little TLC. We met the owner, Pam, and she was so nice. She answered any questions that we had and introduced us to her two dogs. (Very sweet dogs, I may add). Continental breakfast with delicious pastries both mornings. We did eat at Metro Bis, which is in the inn. I reviewed the restaurant separately. We also took advantage of the pool at the Simsbury Inn, down the road. A nice pool and a very HOT whirlpool. You can walk around the downtown area and this made the location ideal. My cousin Pam invited my parents and myself to stay with her at the 1820 House for a night. Of course as a relative, we'd only want to write something nice about our stay but, nepotism aside, it was a 5 star experience. The Inn is a throw back in time as an historical building with incredibly charming rooms. The four-post beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were meticulously clean with so many timeless details. We loved the ambiance of the Inn and Pam added a friendly and concerned connection with anyone who crossed her path making the experience of staying there even more wonderful. The restaurant has amazing food and the bike path down the street added to a fantastic stay at the 1820 Simsbury House! They've got it all!! read more

One of the ac units wasn't working and they immediately upgraded that couple to a bigger, even more beautiful room than the first. They took care of us like family. Will return next year! read more

The wifi worked great. The bed was also very comfortable, and the sheets were great. The adjoining restaurant offered delicious food. I came here for only one night and I'm pretty sad that I wasn't able to stay longer but I will be back. My experience there was great, it's a cozy place with extremely nice staff. They had some hidden gems in the neighborhood where you can eat and drink some really good food and beer. The house it self was really nice with 4 post beds that were sturdy, a huge wall mirror and vintage curtains and table lamps. In the hallways there where these amazing little books where you could sit and just chill on the little couch and even bring you laptop although I didn't because there was a nice sized desk and outlets in my room. The breakfast is continental but it's an upgrade to the frozen waffles that you will find at hotels, they also include some vegan and gluten free items. read more

My son and his bride chose the 1820 house as their wedding venue. It was an easy hop (on back roads) to the airport, so guests from all over the country could easily get there by either scheduling the complimentary shuttle ahead of time, or catching a ride. The rooms are roomy, comfortable, charming and quiet. During our 4 night stay, we were pampered by the wonderful staff and truly felt at home. The continental breakfast was lovely and it was nice to just hang out in the parlor or porch in the mornings and catch up with the other wedding guests (and not have to make plans to eat out every meal). The in-house restaurant was great and there are other places to eat within walking distance as well. I look forward to a return visit! read more

I've stayed here twice, and love the house. The rooms are nice, the beds very comfy with luxe duvets on them. Stay here for the history...wander the front of the graveyard next to the property and you'll be treated to some early American history. I remember the building from growing up in Simsbury, when it was an abandoned home. It's beautiful now, and the staff is low key but attentive. I've stayed in the main house and the carriage house and liked both. Do be aware that this is a not a Marriott. The rooms are old, the house is old, and if you like that kind of thing you'll be pleased. I do think it could use some updating and the in-room wifi is very slow. They also have a free shuttle service to and from Bradley Airport, which is a nice service for such a small hotel. read more

I wish I was still there! My husband and I came to this historic, beautifully appointed Inn for two nights and felt nurtured and restored. Greeted by the Innkeeper, Pam, we were made to feel instantly at home. She promised that we would not want to get out of bed it was that comfortable and she was right! The bedroom was light filled and romantic; the queen sized lofty bed was comfy and luxurious. The shower had terrific water pressure, which is not often the case in century old homes! The Inn boasts of the best coffee and comes with a delicious, expansive continental breakfast, and did not let us down. The coffee was hot and rich flavored, the home baked breads and pastries were way too alluring, delicious and freshly baked each morning. Yogurt, a crunchy, healthy peanut butter, hard boiled eggs all served to balance out the sweets! To top the whole experience was the excellent hosting and humor we received from Pam, our Innkeeper. I stayed here for a week while attending a technical certification class. The environment was very quiet and conducive to studying. The bed was comfortable and there was a desk, chair, and sofa in the room. Continental breakfast was somewhat sparse but there is coffee and tea available throughout the day. The wireless internet was fast and reliable, but you must get a username and password from the front desk. This hotel will honor the government rate with proper government ID. read more
