Went here for a fun Valentine's night sing-a-long & the bar staff only seemed to let 3 men sing. Enough with Dean, Dan, & Carlos! Carlos was the only decent singer, but they should have made these guys get a private room versus taking over the bar for the whole night. Sing Sing Karaoke is the dive bar of karaoke places but it fits into the East Village vibe. The place is grungy and a bit dirty. I've been here a couple of times with friends and even some of the microphones and tables were sticky from the dried alcohol. It stills serves its purpose though. Their prices a bit cheaper than the karaoke places in Koreatown. And I really like their song selection. In keeping with the neighborhood, they have the best selection of rock songs. i rarely leave reviews but i had to leave a google review and a yelp review after my terrible experience. we came with a huge group the machine didn't work in one of our rooms unless you had the midus touch (????) after asking 10 times they finally said to touch it lightly. by that point we had been there long enough that we apparently got moved to another room???? it was very confusing and very poor communication. i can't believe they force you to buy drinks in order to meet whatever company minimum they need to run this shoddy business. i've never had a worse karaoke experience. it actually upset me so much. do not come here. if they offered me a lifetime or free karaoke i wouldn't come back. read more

We had a private room (so we could pay credit card in there) but there was zero ventilation and it was so hot. The tvs are old and the sound systems crackled. There's no stage- the bartenders just hand a mic from behind the bar and you can sing from your seat, standing against the wall, or anything in between. No one is good, everyone's screaming, it's a vibe, and it's fun. If you want to shine and be a star, this isn't the spot for you. Fun karaoke spot! Went with friends to celebrate a birthday and we loved it. Got a room which seems like a better deal over paying per song. They even gave us a few free minutes to finish up our sake and sing a couple more songs. Be prepared with a few y2k and 90s songs, since this is low tech and was sort of hard for a group of younger kids to find anything we all knew but that's fine, we were greeted and seated immediately. Also prepare for one person to front the bill, it was $180 for two sake bottles and almost 2 hours of karaoke in a room, plus they factor their own gratuity onto the check. read more

Now they know good and god darn well there system is antiquated and trash! I was in town for the week and decided to have some fun with my friends. It was a Thursday so it wasn't busy and we were able to get a room right away. The server explains how to work the system and leaves. The song selection, terrible! My go to is always Rihanna, you could not find majority of her hits! I'm talking about Umbrella, Only Girl In The World, Diamonds...the list goes on! So I settle for other artists, but even Beyoncé, BEYONCÉ, had limited selections!!! Then the system was lagged. It took 20 seconds for a song to load, then some of the songs we selected wouldn't load at all! This cuts into your time since you pay by the hour. They moved us to another room where the system actually operated properly, but the disco light was messed up. It flickered on sporadically. At first we thought it operated to the beat but quickly realized it was busted. The thing that really got me they had the nerve to add gratuity automatically to my bill. Drinks are weak and/or not blended well, limited song selections, basic old equipment...I'm sure there are better places. Save yourself, do not come here! read more

Went here this past weekend at around 2:30 AM and my friend and I wanted a private room - they said it's a 5 person min for $45 ~$57/hour with tax and gratuity but gave us the room for that price. We spent an hour there and luckily they had a website to search songs so you didn't have to look through the massive book. The room they had us in was SO hot and I didn't see a thermostat to change the temperature. I didn't think it's big enough for 5 people either. I feel like 3-4 people can sit comfortably. We weren't drinking but just a heads up - this place isn't BYOB and they have signs they'll charge you $75 if they catch you with outside liquor. read more

Thank you to Sing Sing for accommodating us!! We walked in and they were able to put us in a room on a SATURDAY NIGHT in no time flat. Incredible service from the karaoke and bar team. Whenever youre walking through, you can only hear music from the main bar - the private rooms are REALLY well sound proofed (I hope, I screamed Teardrops on my Guitar pretty loud). 10/10/10. It is best for people who like 80 to early 2000's music. It is a nice place to come for an after party or with coworkers. There are lot of private rooms but you can also perform in the area which is open to everybody. Great place for karoke! read more

We went to sing sing on ave A instead (short cab) where we happily paid $20 a song to skip ahead of the line. Honestly, the scene was way better at ave A. Went here around 11:30 pm with 8 people on a Saturday. We called ahead about 40 minutes prior and got a private room. This place was SO MUCH FUN. I've never been to a karaoke bar like this. I came here with a small party (about seven people) late night and parked on the street. We rented a private room (relatively inexpensive) and piled in. It was comfy and we sang English and Chinese songs. The girls were beautiful singers, so I ended up listening more than anything else that night. Don't recall getting drinks, but we DID sing until they kicked us out (well, until our time was up at least). Since it was the wee hours of the morning, on our way out I only saw cleaning being done in the main room, and have no idea what the scene (like fellow patrons, noise level) is like at Sing Sing. Came here for a Chinese new year after-party with friends and was not disappointed. Drinks are ok but can be on the pricey side, but it's also a byof place, so not complaining. Most of the staff is very nice and helpful, and the rates are decent. Private rooms: $8 an hour per person, and a little extra if you BYOB. You're also allowed to bring food into the rooms At the bar: $2 per song, or a free song with purchase of a drink. They also have all you can drink packages which also come with 18% gratuity charge. Everyone I came with are bartenders from around the city, hense why we were out on a Tuesdays. We got a room to goon out have fun. None of the Spanish music would play. Ugh. Held a party for 35 and there was only one person there at the bar who I think was the owner. When you arrive at a party the first thing you want is a drink. Very tough to get drinks in the hands of people quickly so the one person just started handing out cans of Sapporo. Pitchers were advertised but not available??? They also had wine on the menu and I was happy to see it had a screw top! How long would it take to serve wine that needed to be opened with a corkscrew. There was zero ventilation in the room assigned so it quickly became sweaty hot and stinky. It was filled with tables in the center of the floor and I was worried about all these people getting out of one door in a fire! There is a main bar area where you can pay per song and sing with a bunch of rando groups of people, which could be fun, if that's you're thing. If you come with a good group of people who prefer a more private affair, then you can request for a room. They lead you down a dark narrow hall with bright red lights -- seriously, it was creepy. Then they open one of the black doors that open up into private karaoke rooms, complete w/lounge seating, tables, TV, karaoke machine, mics, a drink menu, and a button to buzz a server to your room. They have a wide variety of songs, from Lady Gaga to Common to Taylor Swift, definitely something for everyone. There isn't a lot of room to dance around or stand when you're in the smaller rooms, but it is fun to sit, drink, and sing together without having to feel uncomfortable with larger crowds or random people. It's a little pricey when compared to other karaoke bars in Ktown, when it comes to karaoke and drinks but it seems to be the best choice in the East Village. read more

Of the two locations, this is my preferred destination of the Sing Sing chain. Surely its not KTown like but certainly a welcome addition to the East Village neighborhood. The rooms like at the other locations are small and there is a small communal area where folks can get their sing on while publicly embarrassing (or impressing) a small crowd that can get stuffy during the weekends. Speaking of stuffy, the rooms are all on the small side. I used to joke and call this place Small Small karaoke due to the fact their larger rooms are still considered medium in my eyes. Its like a high end clothing store where sizes are smaller than they appear, except this location is hardly high end. Another thing worth noting is that this location has a good Chinese selection, but a lazy one in that they're just music videos complete with little songs in instrumental format. Overall, a good selection of Asian music that rivals any other karaoke joint. read more

I don't do karaoke. I never want to do karaoke. I don't even sing in the shower. I am a big music fan though. Metal for life. Yet, I find myself sitting at a karaoke bar now and then because of tagging along with friends who are fanatics for this form of public embarrassment. After a few drinks I might hum a few bars or belt out a tune. Yup, I even sang a song here the other night. Boy, do I suck. But pretty much so does everyone else. Ha! From what I saw this place has plenty of rooms that fit all party sizes, but each can be small and pricey. Tons of songs to choose from. Decent karaoke machines and sound systems. Large video screens showcasing some of the cheesiest videos in creation. Drink service was ok as they came in a few times to see if we needed drinks and brought us pitchers of water. There is a bar area when you first walk in that has a large karaoke screen for public group participation. Seems like everyone in this place was totally into it. Some were very good singers, and some were like listening to nails scraped along a blackboard. It's all in fun though. Still, I can see only doing this when I am a bit drunk. Yup, that means I'll probably be belting out a tune again pretty soon at one of these places. read more

This is by far the worst karaoke joint I've ever stepped foot in. Perhaps the experience is different if you're sitting at the bar.. but me and my two friends booked a small room. The price for a Saturday afternoon was rather inexpensive, at $4 per person per hour with 3 ppl minimum (excluding tax and tip). When we got to the room, we noticed it was ridiculously small. There was only a bench pushed against the wall, with no sort of table or anything. We were told that if we wanted to move to a larger room, it would be a 7ppl minimum charge ($28/hr) so we decided to stay. Now the small space I can handle, however, if you're claustrophobic, I suggest you run as far away and fast as possible. It was the outdated machines and terrible sound quality that made the experience unbearable. In order to select songs, you had to flip through a sticky songbook (which only had English songs) and find the corresponding song number and enter it with the provided remote control. If you wanted to find songs in other languages, you will have to resort to their second option. That option is to use their website to search by song title/artist. However, when I searched for one particular artist there were no results. When searching by title, I found a result with the aforementioned artist. Why are the search results so inconsistent? It also only shows the first 50 results. As for sound quality, half the songs did not have background music and the other half had unsynced audio. There was even a song that resulted in an error and was automatically skipped. Also there was major lag when you were entering numbers with the remote and also when you wanted to jump to the next song. There are a ton of much better karaoke places with more space, modern equipment with touchscreen song selection, more songs to choose from, better mics, etc. Some even offer you food/drink credit up to your room price. Needless to say, I will not be returning unless they upgrade their Jurassic system. PS - the only plus was that the staff were friendly read more

Came by tonight and the woman working the bar lacked any customer service. I was literally standing there waiting for her to acknowledge me as she's in a conversation with a bald man with a creepy mustache. Finally asked her if they served gin and then rudely mentioned they don't serve it. I asked for their drink menu to which she gave me. After I knew what I wanted, I stood there looking at her waiting until she was done talking to the older man. She did not acknowledge me whatsoever. And then the couple at the end of the bar waved to her and she left to go attend to them. First of all, if you're going to have anyone work the bar or in hospitality, that they need to be attentive to the customers around them. This woman obviously hates her job where she could care less. I've come here twice now, the first time underwhelming and the second time horrible. The first time, I felt I overpaid for a less than interesting experience and rude customer service. The second time I came with a large group on a Thursday night, willing to pay their overpriced fees, and the bouncer could not have been more rude, unfriendly and cruel, turning away my friends and I because he suspected one person who had come in before us to be underage. He decided we all were associated with this person and kicked all out despite us all being over 21 and not knowing this person that had come in before us. He was belligerent, turned away what would've probably $600 worth of service, with a terrible tone and terrible customer service. He yelled at us for no reason and I will never been returning, and I recommend no one ever does. No one deserves to be spoken to the way that that man spoke to us, and I hope you take this review seriously and give your business elsewhere. There's plenty of karaoke in the city that is higher end, has better service, and will actually show you a good time in this amazing city. Blow off sing sing. If you think you're that bad at singing and want to seclude yourself from society so that no one witnesses that monstrosity of a duet you have going with yourself, they offer private rooms. If you're husband yells at you to shut up, or your dog rolls his eyes every time you sing a duet by yourself, you have a good option here. Kidding aside, They do have a lot of variety when it comes to music selection, but they charge you every time you want a song, no free songs even if you're consuming, which is a bummer. It's a good choice if you're in the neigborhood and are willing to pay. Overall, it's just an OK place in a great location. The weird part for me (and this is just my experience) was that in our tab, the bartender added a 20% included gratuity even over the songs we selected. I found that weird. I had a pretty fun time here on a Friday evening. We reached around 8:30- 9 pm and it wasn't too busy. We were able to get seats at the bar. It started getting crowded shortly after that though so I'd recommend coming a little earlier if you're looking to get a seat. There's some regulars that check out the place too. I liked the overall experience- decent priced drinks, a good song selection, a good crowd etc. Some minor things that could make it better- it's $2 per song and I feel like a free song with each drink could be the way to go. I've seen that at other places (for example, Boho Karaoke). Also, it's cash only, which isn't a big deal but just something to note. Finally, one of the mics was pretty good in terms of sound but the other mic was really barely on/too soft so that can be problematic when two people are doing a duet. read more

For $8 per person per hour, this place ends up being pretty pricey. The selection is good for English music, but honestly go to Duet. They had a good selection of alcohol and I had a good time. Honestly though, we only came here because we were hanging out in St Marks. If you have the choice and only want to karaoke, go to Chinatown. If you want a less nichey place, go to Duet. We had a great time here. There were five of us and we got a pretty cheap private room with beer, shots and a pitcher of water. They checked on us every hour to see if we wanted to continue using the room and they were always available if we needed more drinks, etc. This was my first time doing karaoke and it was my understanding that this place was quite cheap compared to others in the area. They had music in other languages, but for some reason the system in our room wasn't able to connect to them. Bummer. However, the guys working there were very nice and offered to give us a discount because of the problem. One female employee here was very rude. She was manning the door to check IDs. Went here for a friend's birthday the other night and it was the first time I went to Karaoke spot. Gotta say at first was a little skeptical. This place did look kind of dingy and they really do not have a large variety of drink selections...HOWEVER, the night did get better as more people showed up for the party which made the Karaoke experience more fun and better to enjoy. One thing that I did not like which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine with other bars/lounges/clubs at times is that THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS...really? It is 2012 for God's sake and you don't accept credit/debit cards! WTF! Besides that though, it a cool spot to go to with a group of fans to just bug out and have a good time. I guess if you really like karaoke, this is a relatively convenient place to go. However, the room I got put in with my group was super sketchy. The minute we walked in, we all looked at each other and were a bit confused because the room didn't look well-kept and there was patches of chipped paint. It was a corner room all the way down the narrow dark hallway. I was able to peek into other rooms and they looked a lot nicer, so I'm guessing we just drew the short end of the stick. We also didn't make a reservation ahead of time, so that may have factored into it. What I didn't like about the place was that there weren't a lot of drink options. They don't have hard liquor and really just mainly have an assortment of beers, sake, and soju. +1 star for the surprisingly clean bathroom. I normally make it a rule not to go to the bathroom at a bar until a point of desperation. Even better, he wasn't the only entertaining act. A couple of groups were in and the mix of songs sang made for an enjoyable experience. How can you not love a night of 90s rock, 90s rap, and my favorite, the 80s? I didn't make it past the very first seat at the bar but I did notice the place was sort of small. There's the community section where we all congregated and then a series of rooms that I could see from where I was seated. Given that it was a Wednesday (and where I live I'm in bed by 10pm) and I now have a few new fun memories, this place did me right. read more
