I got turned onto this place by an instagram couple who features the parts of New York that feel old or forgotten, from a different time. RPM underground is that, in more ways than one. First, there is a record store on the first and second level, with tons of inventory from across the decades. I spent most of my time in the sorta-speakeasy-ish bar. Dark, retro. Drinks are pretty basic, but they have fun themes that go along with their karaoke setups. Bartenders were super nice and fun to talk to. The best part is I hit happy hour at just the right time and all my drinks were half price! They have a TON of karaoke rooms that you can rent out singularly or as a group. Prices vary, but you can hit karaoke happy hour and rent out a short time for yourself if you're just wanting to have some fun solo. Themes include superheroes, jazz, sunset blvd, the playboy room, adult movies of the 70s. There is something for everyone. It's off Times Square in midtown, so I don't hit this neighborhood often, but if you're in the area for a show, a great spot to grab a drink and kill some time before or after. read more

After we gave our coats, we were taken downstairs to a lower level, which had some private rooms, but we were taken to a private area that had a stage, some food that I'm saying the company paid for, and a bar. Super interesting place for karaoke brunch. They do bottomless brunch (one entree included) at 49$ for 90 minutes, 59$ for 120 minutes, and 69$ for 150 minutes, which seemed like a good deal to me (at similar KTV spots, you pay for the room and can BYOB, but in the end, this is more cost effective). Something that sets this place apart from the other karaoke spots is that each room is themed, which is super cool (we had the Avengers theme). The service was really quick and attentive, and they had a good selection of songs, though the book seemed a bit outdated to me (you could also look it up online and type it into the remote). My only gripe was that the food was just meh -- for some reason, the breakfast quesadilla comes with a huge dollop of sour cream but they give you ketchup in tiny little saucers one at a time that you have to ask for, which is kind of annoying. My colleagues and I kept coming back here because of its convenient location from our work. HOWEVER! Do not come here in the summer . !!! They have a VERY weak air-conditioner. We have complained to the bartenders to increase the AC but they said it's not really strong enough. The 2 ceiling fans at the bar area can not be rotate either. I sang a fitting song for after work on a Friday then a coworker paid for me to sing a song that's one of my favorites and they had it. Their catalog is really extensive, which is great. Hers had an entire bar inside which was great for the group of 20-30 people that were there. You look through the book and then write the song number you want on a ticket to give to the bartender who then programs it for you. Different people from the gathering rent rooms at RPM for an after-party, and a hundred people or more have gone there. This year, the dude behind the counter wouldnt let my colleagues and me enter unless we could tell him which specific person rented the rooms. We had no idea what to tell him. When someone outside our group offended us, staff refused to listen to our side and took the other person's word instead. Even though it was resolved that night, management later tried to ban me for it months later -- extremely unprofessional. First and foremost I want to give a huge shout out to this venue for being extremely accommodating & truly providing quality service! I was here yesterday for a karaoke brunch, we had two rooms for our group. The space was literally perfect. Some of the group arrived earlier to decorate & people even arrived late and they accommodated it all. The space is really fun and they have a bunch of songs you can choose from. We were also able to connect with Bluetooth if we wanted. For food I got the RPM classic breakfast, it was literally just that a classic breakfast platter with potatoes, eggs, bacon, & toast. I will say the menu is pretty limited, but I'm assuming brunch is a new offering so that's why? We did bottomless mimosas, Bellinis, & trulys. All decent but I would've liked more champagne. Before we started the bottomless drinks I went to the bar & ordered a patron Margarita & my friend ordered a sprite & patron plus soda on the side. That ended up costing us about $45, which in my opinion is a bit much. I would stick to the entree and bottomless drinks for $40. I would also like to further explore the menu. You can definitely walk by RPM underground and not know it is there. It is located underneath a record store selling some cool old time records. I went there with my sister this weekend to celebrate her getting her new apartment. I emailed RPM and conversed with Raj, who sent us up for a karaoke brunch in the afternoon. As you walk down the stairs, you see old mics, comic books, album covers, speakers, and other cool stuff. There are 2 bars where you can sit and sing karaoke in public at 3$ a song. Their bartenders input songs for this so it can be busy on weekends and a long wait. There are about 18 unique private rooms where you can sign karaoke with friends. There is a mix of some great new and old songs. They offer a variety of brunch drinks. We were surprised with a welcome shot. We then had mimosas and screwdrivers, which had us singing. I ate avocado toast with real avocado and juicy tomatoes, not that pasty stuff like dunkin. My sister enjoyed her French toast. They also have a 50% off karyoke, drinks and food on m-f 1 to 8pm and sat and Sunday 5 PM to 8PM in the public bar area and the front rooms which I may try in the future. read more

The front desk guy (the owner?) said "can't wait for your your negative review" so here it is. Staff is extremely hostile and rude. Made a reservation for 11PM *2 weeks prior* & confirmed over text *same day*. Arrived at 11:05PM after walking in the pouring rain. It was a party of 13 so by the time we had our ids checked and got to the desk it was 11:08PM. Immediately they told us they gave our room away bc it was "busy." Expressed my confusion since karaoke spots have a grace period or begin charging you from the time of your reservation if late. Asked them about the grace period and they replied by questioning me with "well what time is it?" I told them 11:08PM, which is really not far off from 11 and the front desk said "how about you try coming to your reservation on time?" Snarky and condescending- not the way you talk to customers let alone people in general. I pushed back saying this was unreasonable. Their attitude was completely unnecessary as well. They told me a room was available for *$80-90 more* than what we initially expected to pay. Another person in my group asked if they could honor the original price and they essentially told us "if you wont pay for the room then get out." At this point we had put up with enough. I firmly told them to give us the upgraded room, and not to speak to my friend in that manner. Front desk guy says "do you want to keep talking to me like that or do you want the room?" Firstly, they were antagonistic from the get go. Secondly we're all adults, let's not patronize paying guests. The vibe was horrible so we decided to leave. Another staff member, asked us if we were taking the room. I told them we weren't. Her response: "okay then go. Bye." I've never met a more entitled, self-important group of people. Fantastic hidden gem in midtown west. Now a popup shop from a pastry chef from the modern. I really enjoyed the creative and affordable atmosphere of this place. The hostess was very knowledgeable and looked like she enjoyed working at the location! The drinks were also fantastic! I ordered the underground manhattan and it was strong and delicious. For food we ordered the ox tail poutine (korean Spanish fusion). 5/5 We also ordered the flatiron steak fajitas (worth it!) and loved the tenderness of the steak. A year after discovering this place, I am happy to say that RPM Underground is still my favorite karaoke spot in NYC! The Happy Hour is a ridiculously amazing, and you can't get a better deal on drinks and apps in the area. I have also tried out the brunch, and both my friends and I took full advantage of the bottomless booze. The service is top notch, and I have never had an issue with any of the employees or the owner.
