Rude owner with a scared dog that kept snapping at people(don't blame the dog, the owner shouldn't have had it there at all, and especially off leash), DJ being a creep to a minor, refusing to give correct change and misrepresenting the cost of drinks(a 12 dollar drink became 16 dollars and he got the change wrong twice), and interrupting songs that we paid for(as well as giving us a 25 song limit while putting in songs that nobody actually requested)... I've been coming to this wonderful establishment for many years, and I always have a great time. The drinks are amazing, the dishes are delicious, the atmosphere is fun, and the service is excellent. They are closed on Sundays, and on Mondays if it's a holiday. My favorites are the Clams Casino, Chicken Wings, and all of pastas. If you haven't been, you need to go and give it a try!! read more

The food is absolutely delicious. Full stop. I can't believe this place doesn't have five stars. The outside gives the appearance of a "hole in the wall" and perhaps it is; but inside, you'll find an immaculate, well kept establishment with wonderful smooth jazz playing. The bartender is so friendly and the chef (a woman) is extremely talented. I've had several dishes here to include the shrimp linguine and the penne vodka - both were so delicious. What a fun venue to host a birthday party in the basement! Karaoke anyone? When you first walk in, it's basically a bar; however, if you go downstairs, it has an open karaoke stage and the space can accommodate about 30 people comfortably. It has English and Chinese songbooks. Or simply ask the DJ to play your songs which is so much easier. Fried chicken wings were so crispy and flavorful! Baked clams were also good. The linguine with clam meat was a bit salty but not bad. Heard lychee martini was awesome. If you are looking for a place to chill and either entertain or be entertained, this is a fun place to be. A long time ago, this was my favorite karaoke venue in the city. Then it all went downhill. They had everything I could ever want in a karaoke spot. A vibrant restaurant / bar upstairs and a basement level karaoke spot where folks could sing their hearts out. During their initial days, folks were free to go down and sing casually without hassle. They had a bit of an unorthodox setup: antiquated equipment with shoddy speakers, wireless and wired mics, but an up to date karaoke selection, courtesy of KaroakeChamp. On occasion, they would have a person downstairs handling the songs and taking requests for a $1. A lot of times, there was no one there, so it ended up just being a free for all in loading music. Couple that with their midweek $5 cocktail happy hours and interesting Asian-Italian menu and life was solid. Slowly but surely, the service started to take a major dive. Everything from not being served to being berated for not ordering enough drinks took its toll on my group. I figured that being understaffed had its drawbacks, but minus a couple of weekend visits, it was almost always dead in here. We'd bring in groups of 10-20 folks at a time, confusion would arise whenever we were told to leave after not ordering enough drinks. There was no sign anywhere or indication on their menu that there was any rules for karaoke. Aside from being a buck or two for songs, there was no signs for "required" purchases otherwise. It was so disappointing but being booted 3 times too many has resulted in little to no returns. read more

Clams are delicious and fresh here, either raw or cooked. Steak special for $20 on Fridays for a nice steak paired with mashed potatoes and mushrooms. Very friendly staff and atmosphere and plenty of enthusiastic regulars. Come knowing what you're coming for- cozy bar atmosphere, unexpectedly good food, drinks, and conversation, though it's a bit loud. There's also a cute doggy mascot here if you're lucky. This bar is kinda all over the place. Their appetizer menu is a weird combination of Chinese snack foods like dumplings and egg rolls, coupled with Italian side dishes, and raw clams. They have a happy hour that runs from 4-7p where they have $1 apps and a discounted drink menu. After stopping by once or twice late at night for a nightcap, I decided to try out the happy hour with a friend. BIG MISTAKE. It was absolutely packed with people, I've never seen this place so busy and ill equipped to serve everyone. There was everyone from their typical older crowd to young professionals to a bunch of little kids eating dollar apps next to the bar. There was also this random dog that was sitting alone in the corner scared out of its mind from all the noise, I think it belonged to one of their workers. I don't think they were really prepared for this rush on a Friday night, so service was really slow and it took forever for just our first round to come out. The drinks were pretty strong though, but at $7 for a well drink during happy hour I wasn't really impressed. Overall, this place tries to cater to too many different crowds and their service suffers. If you want a fancy place, go elsewhere. This is a blue collar, down to earth Chinatown bar. Frequented by English speaking blue color, chinese workers, with occasional black and white guys. It is the only place for a bar with an happy hour that's serve the best clam casino you could ever find in New York City. It is made of minced pork with bacon put on a little neck clam, and roasted from the high flame so that it is charred on the meat, but the clam is barely cooked. You ended up with a very tasty roasted, garlicky meat on top of a very fresh Little neck clam. A little bit juice at the bottom of the shell finishes your palate like a bit of leftover of clam sauce, as if like a leftover of a linguine clam sauce. Guarantee you will not find anything like that in the New York City. Also, there is a fried chicken wings dish, crispy on the skin, clean and don't ask for any source, May, the bartender, would slap you if you do so. It is so delicious, after 2 hours, the skin still crispy. They also serve a steamer clams dish by the pound, fresh and unbelievable. Right by the court house downtown near Chinatown and Columbus Park. It is a unique and classic place that you will not find anywhere else in the city. You will generally not be comfortable sitting as others will deliberately occupy your space even swing their jackets at your head. My friends and I usually go to Asia Roma for its cheap Karaoke and its usually fun vibe. So we decided to come here for a joint birthday celebration (mine and a friend's--both of us frequent the establishment). I called earlier that day to make a reservation for a party of 12 for dinner and then for a section in the basement for karaoke. Easy peasy, thought this was a great lowkey choice. I WAS WRONG. Some of us got there on time and others apparently weren't joining for dinner. The place had plenty of tables left over for other parties but we were made the wait about an 45 minutes to be seated. We had meanwhile ordered some drinks and were just enjoying each others' company. Then we sat down and ordered more drinks, and the waiter asked if we were paying separately or keeping a tab. My friend just left everything on a tab so that it was easier. The service was super slow to say the least. We had to wait a while to order our dinner and then we waited over an hour and a half to get our food. And the food all came out separately so we waited longer to eat because we didn't want to eat in front of people without food. Only a handful of us ordered entrees and the rest ordered small plates. I have never waited so long for pasta before, and worse is my other friend waited a whole two hours for her meal! And it was pasta! We kept checking in and they kept telling us it's coming, it's coming. There was someone working behind the bar, someone else going between kitchen and floor, and someone in the basement so it's not like they didn't have enough staff. I finally had enough and went to the kitchen where the owner was standing there and there was one cook preparing meals. I asked where the food was and she told me to ask the waiters.... Okay so we did. They just kept giving us the run around. Whatever, we got our food and instead of apologizing for the wait, the owner decided to argue with us about it. She said if you aren't going to pay for your meal then don't eat it. Meanwhile no one said we weren't going to pay for our meals so I think she was profiling us because we were a mixed party. I did ask her if there was any way we could get a free round of drinks or something for the SUPER LONG wait so that my friends could feel more relaxed after the tense interactions with the staff. I had pointed out that there were two other parties that came in after us and were served and paid and left BEFORE we got the remainder of our food (white and asian groups by the way)... She refused to even apologize. I told her all calmly and nicely by the way that I understand she's a small business owner and it's difficult but we waited two hours for our meals and we want to stay and do karaoke but it would be nice to get something as a way of apology. She continued to refuse, getting loud with me and stating that she felt attacked... Not really the chutzpah she needs to run an establishment in NYC. I felt bad because I thought maybe they were short staffed but it turns out the owner had been drinking heavily for who knows how long. We all witnessed her going to the bar to drink more. REGARDLESS I ended up paying for the bill, and even left a more than 20% tip because I guess I'm a doormat.... After all of that, they made my other friend pay for two drinks even though she only drank one. Then when my bf confronted the bartender about the unfairness, the bartender threatened my bf with "taking this outside"... and what did he do? He followed us outside with his chest sticking out to fight my bf. LOL! I don't want to say they were racist but let's just say we were only with one white person. I've come here for years to do karaoke. It's a hole in the wall spot that is relatively inexpensive and the basement is always a lively experience. Friends and I visited recently and had a horrible time. What was very unsettling was that our dining party was mostly POC and we were made to feel very unwelcome. I was really disappointed by service and terrible attitude that the owner had, despite seeing how ridiculous our experience had been first hand. My friend reserved a table for a party to be seated at 8, get a quick bite to eat and then go downstairs to sing. We were seated at least half an hour late, it took another 30 minutes to get a waiter to take our order, and beyond that we waited over an hour for the entire parties food to arrive. Plates came out one at a time while other parties that got there after us (people sitting at the bar and at another table nearby) were served before us. Things such as pasta took an unreal amount of time. The waiter, when we asked was rude and avoidant, and we finally got the last plate we had caught the owner and asked for a comp or drink. The owner proceeded to grab the plate of food saying "if you're not paying, you're not eating." She then proceeded to fight with my friend who made the reservation and tried to tell her about our experience. All in all: this is not the place to go to if you expect your time or money to be valued. read more

This place is horrible. Do not go there. You would be wasting your money. The karaoke DJ would skip your requested songs if there are regulars before you. There are other times when he would make you wait until their songs are finished before you get to sing yours. And this is when you requested your song before theirs. The service is also really bad. The bartender likes to bring his girlfriend and her friends along to the bar while his working there. His girlfriend has a wandering eye, she checks out other guys when she's there at the bar. I didn't realize this before, until the second time I had gone to this bar. She checks me out everytime I go there. Now this ticks off the bartender boyfriend. What he would do is that, when my friends and I would ordered drinks, instead of putting it in front of us. He would put it at the edge of counter by his side and just leave it there, and then walk away. So we would then have stretched our whole bodies over the counter like we trying steal something from behind the bar in order to get our drinks. Another time, he would leave our drinks at the other end of the bar where the cash register is at and not bring it to us. We had to go all the way to the other side of the bar and through a crowd of people in order to get our drinks. He's punishing us for what his girlfriend does. It's not her fault, as mentioned, I'm an attractive guy. But, if you don't want your girlfriend to check out other guys at the bar, don't tell her to come by the bar when you're working there. The bar isn't bad, but averagely expensive for the amount of alcohol you get. There's also a open mic karaoke downstairs, $1 per song which is great! My issue was the owner really. She sits at the bar and eats her customers food which they paid for and gets drunk with them at 8pm which is fine, but she leaves her dog at the bar the entire day (I've been here on 2 occasions at different times). The dog is very cute and well trained and doesn't bother anyone but but last night she was drinking with other customers and the dog peed on the floor and it was hard for people to walk where the dog was sitting, most had to jump over her. When my boyfriend went to tell her that she needed to clean after her dog she was too drunk to process it. I like the place just not the owner. Here we go... I've been to Asia Roma no less than at least thirty times. It's always been a place that I've found to be void of pretension, and filled with folks who represent "old" New York - a true hodge-podge of folks that exude a "Cheers" vibe. While some complain about the service, I've never had an issue till this past Friday. I had a group of about ten who wanted to meet after work, and I suggested this spot, because I thought it was a place we could indulge and chat without breaking the bank. I'm no cheapskate, but I refuse to pay $15 for well cocktail drinks. Anyhoo, as the first to arrive, I walk in and greet the bartender with a "Hey. What's up?" He (the first male bartender I've ever encountered here) responded with a defensive "What!?" You know, the kind of "What!?" that implies I said something offensive. "I just said what's up, that's all," I replied, and he then, still with a stank attitude, said "Uh, OK, What's up?" I then decide to let it go, and start anew. I order a margarita ($7.50) that was not only horrible, but came in a rocks glass, which is the bane of my existence when going to a bar and ordering a mixed drink. One sip, and I knew I'd switch to a Corona. I pay in cash, and the bartender cavalierly places the money in front of me with absolutely nothing in his body language that indicated he was interested in being kind. As the time approaches for me to order my Corona ($6.50), I noticed that a gentleman next to me ordered a Coors Lite [I know, I know "domestic" versus "imported" ($3.50)]. Again, with an absolute cold demeanor, he takes the money from the pile on the bar, and without even turning around, tosses the change back on the bar. Now, I'm starting to fume. To reinforce my memory, I go to their website to double-check what their happy hour consists of, and then to triple-check, I ask this fool what happy hour consists of. While the prices I was charged were completely reasonable, they were wholly inconsistent with A) The Website; B) The Menu; and C) His Reply. I point this out to him, and with and increasingly bitter tone tells me that what he charged are happy hour prices. Son, you just said "Oh, happy hour is basically 2-3 dollars off stuff." OK, maybe you don't think I don't understand basic arithmetic? I then tell him I've been here countless times (backing up a little, the owner Mae had arrived between the margarita and Corona), and I think he has a shitty attitude. "What do you want me to do, sit and chat with you?" No, asshole! I expect you to treat me like a human. I reminded him that a great attitude and a smile is always appreciated, and goes a long way to ensuring a great tip. Anyhoo, I text my friends to tell them we're meeting at another spot in the area - his loss. Now, and I really don't like going here, but I noticed his entire bar were patrons of Asian descent. This was in stark contrast to the moments where the female bartenders are holding court. Even though I'm a quarter Chinese, I couldn't help but think this kat doesn't gel well with others who don't look like him. In closing, I have NEVER not tipped, but I grabbed my inconsequentially tossed change, and bounced. My friends and I had a great time at La Lito on Bayard. If I had written my review at the same time as Tony L, it would've been a 5-star review just like his. I was there that night with him, that night was the bomb. Since then though, DOWNHILL. I've been 3 times, but I'm only going to recount 2 of those times, because I absolutely do not remember one of those times(damn 16 hour day of craziness)! Note: My review is based purely on the Karaoke. Asia Roma runs the Karaoke Champ system so a very good selection of songs. It's probably my favorite system, because they have some lesser known artists. They even got Mandarin and Spanish songs. On the 5-star night with Tony L., the karaoke room was not manned by a worker. That meant all the songs we wanted to sing as long as we got drinks. Like Tony said, we drank.....a lot. Ever since that night, total attitude change. They've started charging $1 per song and the person who mans the karaoke system won't necessarily put it in, or just plays it in whatever order they feel like. When you go up to put your money in, they also try to tell you that the money you put in for songs have already been used up by other songs. There really isn't any accountability of the money paid and the songs you put in. It's an absolute crap shoot on whether or not they'll play your song or not, and if they play it, it may be 2 hours later. This past Saturday I went with Alex S. at around 2am to Asia Roma with a group of 10+. By this point, we had drank all we were going to drink for the night. We were just in the mood to sing, and happily pay our $1 to sing. Well we sang, but they pressured us to no point to buy drinks. They told Alex that what place would let them sing without drinking.....hello Baby Grand!!! Really, you want to give us an attitude that we're not drinking? The place was empty, until we walked in. We're happily paying our $1 for songs, and you're making us feel bad? This was basically my last straw. I refuse to go back to this place. We brought them a lot of business. The worst part was they knew us, yet they treated us like the damn clap in the end. What's keeping it from being a 1-star was that the first few times we went were truly 5-star experiences. I will miss the old Asian guy that works there that wears the Hawaiian shirt and starts dancing all crazy, while he's singing and grabbing some random girl to dance with. Props to you pimp. What a restaurant is made of is the quality of the food and service. And after today, I would question if I would ever come back to eat here. I came in the restaurant about 8pm. Ordered my food by 8:15. My family and I, a party of 3, were the only ones dining at the restaurant besides a couple people drinking at the bar. I ordered 2 appetizers and 3 entrees. At 8:50, our first appetizer comes out. And at 9 o'clock my second appetizer comes out. My first appetizer was chicken wings and it took them over 35 minutes to bring some plain chicken wings out. My clams casino came out 45 minutes later. I was still very patient even on top of the fact it was my uncle's birthday dinner. At 9:15, it has been over an hour and still no entree. I asked the nice waiter and he said the kitchen is extremely slow. At about one hour and 15 minutes, my steak and pasta comes out, STILL MISSING MY THIRD ENTREE. At this point I was fed up. I am not the type to complain, but seriously very disappointing. I told the nice waiter that he needs to talk to his manager/owner. I decided not to even barely eat anything but pack it to go because at this point, our dinner was ruined. The manager/owner named May, walks out to the cashier and then walks right back into the kitchen. I finally ask for the check and she gave me 10 dollars off my over $100 bill. Money was not the biggest problem, but as a manager/owner, you did not have the audacity to come over and apologize for the one and half hour wait for your customers food. Not even a word of sympathy for your customer. To be honest, at the one hour mark, I should have gotten up and left. Paid for the two appetizers and that was it. The service is extremely terrible, and I can get the same quality food at Little Italy with way better service. The only good part about the restaurant is probably the nice waiter who was very apologetic. He tried to check on my order every couple minutes, but there was no much he could do. I ended up giving him a good tip anyways. The owner of this restaurant should really reflect on her service and way she treat customers. If you took the time to approach your customers to apologize and do more than just take off $10, guest would be more understanding and willing to come back. read more

Aside from people having to run upstairs (even though THERES A WAITRESS WHO IS MEANT TO SERVICE YOUR DESK), and wait 15 minutes for the bartender by the bar to actually service you (EVEN THOUGH THE BAR WASNT CROWDED), the bartender still couldn't get my tab right and asked tried to charge the entire group's orders on my card. When I said "no", he gave me attitude and made it seem like I wasn't paying for my drinks. Such a little jerk. I will not be back. Our night at Asia Roma was one of the strangest experiences ever. But we absolutely loved it. I came with with some friends for my last night in New York and we had a blast. Upstairs you get full-service bar, downstairs you get a kick-ass private room that can easily fit twenty+ people, complete with a stage, a fireplace, and stockings? Well, at least it's cozy. If fireplace doesn't warm you up, $5 cocktails will. We started around 7PM on a Wednesday night, singing and drinking to our heart's content till about 1AM. They run a Karaoke Champ machine and the song selection was fantastic. What's more, our server extended the happy hour special of $5 dollar drinks for the entire night. At one point we had several platters come down from the bar filled with vodka sodas and tonics, sparkling like a wet chandelier. Awesome. The best part is, the karaoke is free! Asia Roma may not have the best interior design, or serve the best drinks. But with six hours of karaoke and fifty cocktails split between and ten happy and drunk friends, $250 is really a drop in the bucket. read more

Used to be a regular and it just isn't the same spot - very disappointing. We didn't feel welcomed AT ALL as regular patrons. Service is sub par, food takes forever and it isn't the same Asia Roma we all fell in love with years ago. read more

Decent sized restaurant/karaoke bar in Chinatown. Friendly waitstaff, but the food was subpar. Came to meet up a few friends and have some cocktails... but of course with drinks you must have some munchies... We ordered several different appetizer dishes consisting of pan fried dumplings, vegetarian spring rolls, fried calamari, clams casino, and one of our guests had some rabbit food (spring mix salad). Of those dishes the calamari was the only decent one.. everything else didn't really have a fresh taste to it. I won't write off a place after one trip. Maybe it'll be a better experience if I ever decide to come again. read more

We went here as a big group (probably about 15 people strong) for a huge sit down dinner. Prices were reasonable, less than $20 a person. What killed us were all the drinks we ordered and we ordered alot. All told the bill was about $700 because, again, alot of drinks. And some of our "friends" decided to skip out without leaving any money. The food itself was quite tasty. But the main attraction is the karaoke lounge in the basement. Lots of fun and lots of songs to choose from. Where else will you see two dudes singing "Endless Love" to each other? Not too many places, let me tell you. If you are looking for a place that can handle large groups, and like to sing badly to famous songs, then this is the place for you. Oh yeah, the bartender was really cute and I think she liked me. I used to always pass by this restaurant on the way home from school, and I finally decided to try it for my graduation dinner last year after my mom recommended it. I got the clams casino ala antica and linguine with white clam sauce, and swapped it halfway through the meal with my dad's salad. I definitely recommend the clams, they're delish! Definitely one of my favorite things here. And my pasta was just YUM. I came again for my 18th birthday dinner, me and a bunch of other friends. I originally wanted to do karaoke, and I thought it'd be like individual rooms, but when we went to basement I ended up being too shy to actually sing. But again, the food was amazing. I had my clams again, but this time I had the fettuccine with fresh seafood. (I do love my seafood). Again, extremely happy with my food, and my friends were too. At the end of our dinner, all of the regulars came downstairs to start doing karaoke, and that was definitely a sight worth staying for. Overall, a great bday experience - I got dinner and a show in the end, which was definitely a memorable experience. read more

If I could give Asia Roma 7 stars I would! Had a party in the basement for about 18 friends last November. Worked out with the open bar for $30 or so - don't rememeber. All I know is that every single person that was in that basement will never, ever forget that night! One dude (most reserved guy I know ended up singing Linkin Park with his pants down - another tried doing Careless Whisper! And mind you - these are straight dudes! We had to get enough of the "open bar courage" up first, but our first go was UTFO Roxanne Roxxane - then did LL's Momma Said Knock You Out - honestly I read a lot of reviews before I booked here and so many said that the choice of song selection wasn't that good - I have to totally disagree. Pages and pages of decent songs to choose. Maybe I could agree that there weren't that many new new songs - but that's the beauty of karaoke - singing old joints that make you remember happier days. Or maybe that's just me. And the reviewer that talked about the DJ is dead on. This guy is so serious about throwing on his records - until some of the girls with us got him up started singing with him and doing the Night at the Roxbury with him - Oh My GOD! This dude had us dying! He can actually sing! I think he hit some high notes for a Shakira song, but maybe I was just real drunk. Anyway - if you are considering a spot for a lot of people - don't pass up Asia Roma. You could get as loud and obnoxious as your hear desires! We were screaming GnR totaly off key and when I ran upstairs to see if they were ready to throw us out at 2 AM - they just laughed and went back to their card game. Was a definite success! read more
