They have been sitting in my room not working for probably over a year. I was worried about sending it in to a place because I thought it could not be fixed and that people would charge me up the wazoo just for an estimate. I finally decided I would take it in to get fixed at Duke, because unlike a lot of other places, this place did not charge for an assessment/estimate. I left it and they told me they would call me within the day for a quote on how much it would cost... and so they did. After I agreed to the cost, they fixed it right up within just a day or two and I was able to test it before I paid, just to make sure it worked. I was elated!!! It worked perfectly. Wow!! And to think I was just going to throw it out. Thank you Duke Electronics. These people are selling ALL KINDS OF electronics n appliances. When you walk in, it can be a bit overwhelming with all the items that they have stocked up to sell, but it is a great business that is simple, efficient, honest, friendly and has cost-effective service. It works perfectly and is a top of the line product, name brand. The second thing we purchased was a humidifier. You know, it gets really dry up here in the winter. So we went for one that would cover a lot of space, I forget how much exactly, but I believe it was bionic brand. Retails for $125 and we got it for $75. The only problem was it leaks water all over the place and we cannot fill it up and just leave it on. Instead I have to pour just enough water in the corral and then keep minding it when I think it's gone. I'm not totally sure that it is really being disbursed through the air, or that it is just generally evaporating naturally. I've contacted the company three times and they wont let me do an even exchange. There was no way for us to know it wouldn't work, as it takes about an hour to start happening...... so I have a perfectly good microwave, and an okay humidifier. Pros: these guys will bargain with you a bit for a fair price. If there is something you want, I'm sure they will have it or know how to get it. The hours are great. Cons: cash only - the ATM is close by, but for someone such as myself who got a semi- working product, there is no way to make an exchange. There is stuff EVERYWHERE you maybe have a small pathway to walk through and you can't browse the whole store. I'd return though, but be more cautious in what I end up buying.

With that said, it doesn't mean buying a new TV is still all that cheap, so I wanted to look into my options. I googled "TV repair Brampton" and this place came up somewhere on the first page. I ended up follow up with them since they offer a free estimate if you bring the item in store yourself. I don't have a history of TV repair, but I know with other appliances, I've had to pay a fee just to have the diagnostics done. Long story short, the motherboard had to be replaced. He only charged the exact cost of the part ($240) since he had to order it in, so he effectively only profited on labour ($120). It was ultimately still less than half the cost of replacing TV outright, so it was still well worth it. He also ensured to demo the TV working before I paid. The store itself isn't much to look at it, and it's effectively a shop and storage right to the front door. It seems to be run by just the owner, and he doesn't have typical hours. Make sure you call ahead each time before coming - and the number does at least go to his cell. Very nice owner and I received the service I was hoping for, along with dealing with the apprehensions I had in terms of getting a TV repair (free diagnosis, and then demo-ing the TV functioning before paying). I also like that he caught a chip in the corner when I brought it in and took a pic, which helps avoid "he said/she said" with repairs, and he even used a strong adhesive on that spot to prevent it from becoming an issue.

Later he reported by phone that he did not have what he needed to repair it but had ordered a part from BC which he would install on receipt. Weeks passed and when i called he repeated the same thing until after about 6 weeks he pleaded for a few more days after which he admitted he could not find the part. Through all this he repeatedly offered to get rid of the tv for me. When i picked it up, the screen was scratched and the power cord was missing. i got no satisfaction at all from Ronnie but took the unit to Keith at Alpha Electronics on Lakeshore in Mississauga who fixed it in a few days and it's still running perfectly. Don't go to Ronnie and for sure don't believe anything he says.
